22:35 - Psych Movie Reportedly in Development
Thanks to tsukikomew for the heads up.

Psych, the long-running USA Network TV series, will reportedly be shooting a movie this summer in Vancouver and San Francisco -- and unlike previous similar rumors, this one seems real.

A Production Weekly entry says a feature film called Psych is shooting beginning in May, and that kicked internet speculation into high gear.

It coincides with a recent convention panel in which recurring antagonist Cary Elwes told an audience in Indiana that he planned to be filming a Psych movie this summer.

"We’re all reuniting in July to make some organized chaos," Elwes told the audience, according to The Herald Bulletin.

22:55 - Z: The Beginning of Everything - Renewed for a 2nd Season by Amazon
Thanks to David for the heads up.

The retail giant/streaming service has handed out a surprise second-season renewal to the Zelda Fitzgerald drama starring Christina Ricci, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The decision comes as a bit of a shocker given that the drama — which has a weak 61 score on Metacritic — appeared sure to be canceled weeks ago only to get a reprieve, according to a source close to the situation.

The renewal comes in the wake of a recent Vox study that claimed Amazon Studios' development process had a "sexist loophole" that favored straight-to-series shows created by men and criticism over Amazon's December decision to cancel female-fronted period drama Good Girls Revolt less than two months after its debut. Good Girls Revolt — which has a slightly better Metacritic score of 65 — significantly outrates Z: The Beginning of Everything when factoring in Amazon's user scores. Good Girls Revolt (which bowed Oct. 28) has an 8.2 rating with more than 27,400 votes, while Z: The Beginning of Everything (Jan. 27) registers with a 7.3 and 14,740. (Amazon, like Netflix and Hulu, does not release viewership information.)

"We heard a good pitch for season two, and based on that, we renewed the show. Anything else is speculation," an Amazon Studios spokesperson said in a statement to THR.

20:40 - A&E to Stop Airing Scripted TV Shows
Thanks to CBSviewer for the heads up.

As A&E is reaching a turning point in its ratings comeback with the first back-to-back months of viewership growth in almost four years, the A+E network is recalibrating its programming strategy, returning to its roots as an exclusively non-fiction brand. Following the end of A&E’s signature drama series Bates Motel earlier this week, there will be no more scripted programming on the cable network going forward.

The move had been in the works for awhile; while A&E launched a number of unscripted series over the last two years, including recent breakouts 60 Days In, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, and Live PD, there have been no scripted greenlights — pilot or series — since 2015. A&E’s head of scripted, SVP Gabriel Manaro, already had transitioned to A+E Studios where he reports to EVP Barry Jossen.

20:40 - Jesse Eisenberg to Star In, Write & Direct Comedy TV Series in Development at Bad Robot

Eisenberg is executive producing The Market with Bad Robot’s Abrams and Ben Stephenson.

19:35 - AMC to Partner with Charter to Produce New Content
Thanks to CBSviewer for the heads up.

Is Charter Communications entering the content business? Kind of, it seems, with a deal announced this morning to co-produce “distinct, high-quality original programming” for its customers in a partnership with AMC Networks’ AMC Studios.

“The partnership will give Spectrum customers access to content created specifically for them, further differentiating Charter’s platform and services,” the companies say.

They offer few details about the arrangement, but say that the first co-produced show will debut on Charter Spectrum in 2018. The cable company will have “an exclusive initial window in the U.S.” while AMC Studios keeps other rights — including international distribution.

“As AMC Studios becomes an increasingly important part of our business, this first-of-its-kind partnership represents a new horizon for us,” AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll says.

Charter’s EVP of Programming Acquisition Tom Montemagno says the deal “will further differentiate our customer experience and the value we provide in a competitive marketplace.”

Charter And AMC shares each are up about 1% in early trading.

01:10 - MOVIES: Life-Size 2 - Freeform Announces Sequel with Tyra Banks Returning

The long-in-the-works Life-Size 2, a sequel to the 2000 fantasy TV movie starring Tyra Banks and Lindsay Lohan, is finally heading to production at Freeform. The original movie premiered on ABC as part of the Wonderful World Of Disney franchise with a second airing on Disney Channel shortly thereafter.

Disney Channel announced that it was developing a sequel in 2012, and the project had been in the works there ever since, with Banks coming on board early in the process to reprise her role and executive produce. With the young audience of the original movie now in their 20s and 30s, the new direction of the sequel targets an older millennial audience, which is why the project migrated from the Disney’s kids-focused Disney Channel to Freeform, which caters YA audience. There is no indication that Lohan would return for Life-Size 2, which will debut in December 2018 as part of Freeform’s popular 25 Days of Christmas programming initiative.

Banks reprises her role as a doll that comes to life in Life-Size 2; but in the sequel, everyone’s favorite doll Eve has grown up. This time, she’s magically awoken to help a young woman learn to live and love again, and along the way, Eve herself will experience the ups and downs of real life in a fun, edgy, modern Christmas movie.

Banks was on hand at Freeform’s upfront where the network also announced an original movie and a special for the 2017 edition of 25 Days of Christmas, Angry Angel and Decorating Disney, as well as a partnership with Time Inc.’s People to develop multiple scripted, original movies based on stories from the celebrity magazine. Everywhere Studios will co-produce.

21:00 - Patriot - Renewed for a 2nd Season by Amazon
Thanks to Pawel for the heads up.

Amazon has renewed its quirky genre-bending spy drama Patriot for Season 2, guaranteeing the further adventures of creator-writer-director Steven Conrad’s Tavner family. The pickup follows the 10-episode first season that launched on Amazon Prime in February after it bowed at the Berlin Film Festival.

Michael Dorman stars as John Tavner, a melancholy intelligence officer who works out his issues by writing folk songs. He is managed by his State Department Director of Intelligence father (played by Terry O’Quinn) and watched over by his older brother, Texas congressman Edward Tavner (Michael Chernus). The first season saw the quirky team attempting to prevent Iran from going nuclear, requiring John to forgo all safety nets and assume a perilous “non-official cover” as a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm (not as easy as it sounds). The finale ended with John at a crossroads facing a brilliant Luxembourg homicide detective (Aliette Opheim) who almost has him figured out. Kurtwood Smith and Kathleen Munroe co-star.
