The Expanse - Godspeed - Review

The title of last week's episode comes from Fred Johnson as he wishes everyone "good luck and Godspeed" at the conclusion of a breathtaking sequence in which we see the Nauvoo launching from Tycho. The communication on the comms, the detail in the visuals as the tugs maneuvered the gigantic ship, and the dramatic music, all made this moment come to life in just the most magnificent way.

Another great visual was that of Diogo and Miller's jump from the Nauvoo to the outer locks of Eros. It is great to have a character like Diogo around as he is expendable, and he is such a likeable character that, in moments where they are space jumping and anything can happen, it is suspenseful - we don't want him to die! The young revolutionary's relationship with the old Ceres cop, witty banter and all, has definitely been one of the more entertaining aspects of this season.

Unfortunately, it seems like Miller may not make it out alive from this predicament having his finger on the trigger of the bomb. This was one of two hard choices/sacrifices made in 'Godspeed.' The choice Holden had to make to destroy the Marasmus for the greater good and his reaction to it really hit home how soft-hearted the Rocinante captain is.

Overall, The Expanse continues to move at a great pace slowly revealing us tantalizing clues of what Eros may be, while continuing to build this rich world and the compelling characters within it. Comparatively speaking, the worst parts of these episodes is back on Earth with all the politics. However, Avasarala's dynamic character, and her interactions with key players in Mao and Errenright, help make the sequences work just enough to keep the momentum going each episode. On top of it all, the visual effects is like nothing we've ever seen on the small screen, the Nauvoo launching being absolutely gorgeous.

10/10
