MacGyver - Screwdriver - Review

What an episode!! It had returns of some characters, closed off Nikki’s storyline, and had a shocking end.

After coming back from a mission, Jack is at home with MacGyver when Sarah Adler knocks on the door to tell them that Nikki has been found and that she need their help to catch her. Once they find her, it’s not all that it seems to be. Nikki is a deep cover agent working for the CIA. It’s the first of many shocks in this episode and a good way to start out. She explains that she is there to catch the mole in the system.

Everything she has done was for her job, including stealing the virus earlier in the season. The team is quite unsure whether they should trust her again and there is no proof that she is with the CIA…other than a box in a cabin in the woods. Which is where the key that she gave Mac comes into play.

However when they get to the lockbox in the cabin, its empty. All the papers on ‘Chrysalis’ are gone. The team starts to doubt Nikki but that is cut short when they start getting shot at. Jack is straight to the point that Nikki has led them into a trap.

While this is happening Riley and Bozer know just who to go to for any information; Murdoc. They visit him in prison but he bargains with them, info in return for a book. This scene really shows the actor (David Dastmalchian) abilities. I love Murdoc as one moment he can be speaking normally then he can click and you remember he's an assassin. David really shows the craziness in Murdoc's eyes which i love. Back to the tea, Once they escape with only minor injuries, they've been surrounded again but by their own. The Phoenix Foundation are around them all and Thornton tells them it’s over here.

Riley and Bozer are back to Mucdoc with the book and he tells them a bank account number. Confused by this, they try and find out more and end up breaking into a room full of filing boxes, luckily Bozer knows how to find things in the boxes.

The team ends up back in Phoenix headquarters where Thornton tells them there was no mole and it was Nikki playing games again. Bozer and Riley come back after finding proof there is a mole and Nikki is telling the truth.

Mac and Jack join Thornton in the office and she tells them Oversight is coming to take Nikki away. However, this goes the complete opposite way than what I was thinking and it's revealed that Thornton is the mole! I couldn’t get over it, It was such an amazing plot twist in the season.

Mac asks Nikki if she is going to come back to The Phoenix Foundation but she reminds him she still has to take down the terrorist group. The episode ends with Sarah getting married and Jack holding in his feelings for her again. I felt like that would have been a nice ending for him to come clean about it.

Overall, The episode was great. The writing and acting have gotten a lot better over the last few episodes and the cast has come a long way from the Pilot, including Lucas Till who I had a major problem with at the beginning. The episode did feel like it was a finale and I’m not sure where the story is going to go now but it will be good to see what happens with The Phoenix Foundation now.

Did you feel like it was a finale episode? what do you think will happen with The Phoenix Foundation now?
