The Goldbergs - Ho-ly K.I.T.T. - Review

It's Thanksgiving for our Goldbergs which is one of the happiest days of the year, right? Not so much. Thanksgiving day is filled with chaos, arguments, and of course, Murray's brother, Marvin. What would a Goldbergs Thanksgiving be without Uncle Marvin?

The episode begins with Adam sitting in Murray's car pretending it's his very own K.I.T.T. He even named it "G.I.T.T." which stands for Goldberg Industries Turbo Transport. Murray tells Adam that he's a moron which "stands for moron, moron." Adam sees that the famous K.I.T.T. will be at the Thanksgiving Day parade and asks Beverly if he can go. Beverly said that it's Thanksgiving and they must spend it together. I loved Murray in these scenes. As usual, Jeff Garlin's delivery of lines is perfect. His "in your face" line to Adam cracked me up.

Thanksgiving gets more interesting as Uncle Marvin shows up. He ends up hitting Barry with his potato gun, but Barry's fine. That is until he asks if he can go to Lainey's instead of spending the day with his family. The answer is obviously no. Beverly decides that Bill and Lainey will come to their house for Thanksgiving that way everyone can be together. This doesn't make Barry happy.

"What kind of monster won't let her own son abandon his own family on Thanksgiving?"

Before Thanksgiving dinner begins Murray and Marvin watch all of Adam's Knight Rider tapes. It was one of the first times that they had enjoyed spending time together, and they decide to go to the parade to see K.I.T.T. Murray forgets that Adam loves that car and leaves without telling him. Adam sees Murray and Marvin on tv clearly enjoying themselves, and he is livid. He decides to make his dad and uncle fight by playing the Knight Rider board game. His plan works a little too well and Murray and Marvin end up furious at each other.

The day keeps getting worse as Bill and Beverly compete over their cooking. Bill wants his turkey fried, and Beverly just cannot agree to that. The two argue over whose food is better and they fight over who has the most tragic life story. Lainey tries to play peacemaker but fails. And while Beverly and Bill are cooking and arguing, Marvin takes Adam to the mall to see K.I.T.T. in person. Marvin then decides to drive the car home. Fantastic idea. What could go wrong?

Well, when Bill puts the turkey in the frier, there is an explosion and the turkey flies through the air. Yep, you guessed it, it lands on the car and puts a huge dent in K.I.T.T. It turns out that Beverly put Bill's turkey in the freezer because she wanted everyone to like her turkey better. I couldn't help but laugh at these scenes even though they were absolutely ridiculous.

Bill and Lainey leave the Goldbergs, and Marvin says he's leaving too, but he actually sits in the car in the driveway. While everyone is pouting, Erica chooses this moment to tell her mom "this is what you get for being meat eaters." I thought Erica's attempt to become vegetarian was funny even if it was a bit random.

Luckily Adam tells Murray about his scheme to make him and Marvin fight, and Murray apologizes to Adam for not remembering he loved Knight Rider. Murray and Marvin make up, and Marvin rejoins the family for Thanksgiving. Beverly also apologizes to Bill, and Lainey and Bill join the Goldbergs. Bill and Beverly combine the turkeys by frying and adding Beverly's seasonings. I thought it was a nice compromise, and Erica obviously appropved. She thought the turkey was amazing. So much for her being vegetarian.

I liked this episode, and I thought it was somewhat realistic. Holidays can bring out the craziness of everyone (and the Goldbergs are already pretty crazy!), but eventually they were able to enjoy each other's company and a delicious meal.

"It's the people who you welcome into your home and your heart who really matter. And that's something to be truly thankful for."

Other Thoughts:

- I liked Beverly and Bill's cooking aprons. Bill loves football, and the turkey for Beverly was perfect.

- I wish Geoff had been in more of the episode than just the end, but it was good to see him.

What did you all think about this episode? Are you a Knight Rider fan? How do you like your Thanksgiving turkey? The Goldbergs are off next week, but don't forget to tune in November 30 for an all new episode. I'm sure it will be entertaining as always.
