  • 21:20 - Scorpion - Season 3 - Lea Thompson Cast as Paige's Mother

Scorpion has tapped Lea Thompson to play Paige’s mother, EW has learned exclusively.

The Back to the Future alum will portray Veronica Dineen, an accomplished con artist who comes back into Paige’s (Katharine McPhee) life after years behind bars during the upcoming Thanksgiving-themed episode.

After getting mixed up in a real estate deal gone wrong, some dangerous colleagues are on Veronica’s tail in the wake of her uncovering a secret and a forgotten nuclear reactor. Eager to reconnect with her disapproving daughter and the genius grandson she’s never met, Veronica brings the team a surprising case, but still has a few secrets of her own she’d like to hide. The team is skeptical at first, but soon discover that the nuclear material in the facility is rapidly heating and threatening to explode.

Will Paige be willing to forgive her mother, or let her into the life she’s worked so hard to establish for herself and her son? Either way, viewers will certainly get more insight into Paige with her mother’s arrival. “You don’t really know that much about Paige’s past,” McPhee tells EW. “This season, you’re going to really learn a lot about what her background is and where she came from. It’s good meaty stuff for Paige. You’re going to see a little more aggressive, frustrated, annoyed Paige [continuing] from the first episode — that’s the most angry you’ve seen her in all the seasons. I think you’ll see a continuation of that.”

Thompson, who most recently starred on Switched at Birth, will appear in at least two episodes starting in late November, with the possibility to recur.

Set in the 1950s, the project centers on Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Brosnahan), who had her life mapped out for herself: go to college, find a husband, have 2.5 kids and throw the best Yom Kippur dinners in her elegant Manhattan apartment. But when her life takes an unexpected turn, Midge will have to decide quickly what else she’s good at. Going from uptown housewife to a stand-up comic in a grungy club in the Village is an appalling choice to everyone but Midge.

  • 20:05 - Brooklyn Nine-Nine - TBS Secures Syndication Rights
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.
EXCLUSIVE: TBS has closed a deal with NBCUniversal for the cable syndication rights to the first five seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The pact, which starts in 2017, includes exclusive linear rights as well as associated on-demand tights, including rolling episodes on TV Everywhere. Brooklyn Nine-Nine just kicked off its fourth season on Fox, so the Season 5 component of the deal is contingent on the show being renewed for next season.

No one would comment on the price, though industry sources estimate it to be around or under $500,000 an episode. The exclusive SVOD rights to previous seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine were sold to Hulu in 2014 as part of a multi-series deal between NBCU and the streaming service. The TBS deal gives the cable network exclusive rights against all linear exhibition of out-of-season episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, including against broadcast syndication.

TBS always had been considered the likely cable home for Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In his previous job running Fox, TNT and TBS president Kevin Reilly developed and greenlighted Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which had been a passion project for him. The cop comedy starring Andy Samberg also fits into TBS’ new direction with original programming for distinctive single-camera comedies that are digital and socially driven.
