The Great Indoors - Pilot - Review: Will TGI keep you Indoors? + POLL

If you are a fan of The Big Bang Theory, there is a great possibility that you will enjoy The Great Indoors as well. The two shows share a lot of similarities, including pacing, vibe and humor. The Great Indoors takes the battle of old school vs Millenials to a completely new level and provides a couple of good laughs in the process.

The show centers around Jack Gordon's return to society. Jack is a being on the edge of extinction, used to the old ways, estranged from modern technology and despising everything the Millenials are praising. Jack is played by Joel McHale who totally rocks this role. His screen presence, his acting, the writing for Jack simply said the whole persona of Jack Gordon is on point perfect. Haven't seen Joel McHale previously to this, but this Alpha male act really suits him well.

Jack was working as an on-field reporter for Outdoor Limits magazine sharing his experience of the great outdoors. As the magazine business is dying and online reading is more popular, the Outdoor Limits owner Roland (Stephen Fry) asked Jack to inspire his bunch of indoor Millenials to write inspiring pieces for their website. As a long time fan of Stephen Fry, it was nice to see him on-screen again and he pretty much nailed his scenes.

Jack's interactions with the Millenials was enjoyable at moments and but not every joke was a winner. The push to establish a connection between Jack and Clarke played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse didn't hit a home run with me. Meanwhile, the scenes with Emma and Mason were quite good, especially Christine Ko was outstanding in her performance of Emma and her repulsion towards everything Jack was standing for.

The weakest link of the episode was Susannah Fielding's Brooke for sure. Haven't seen the actress before but not a pleasant experience here. Brooke and the whole story surrounding her character weren't appealing and just disrupted the pace of the episode.

Side Notes:
- Esther was the funniest Millenial out of the bunch, hopefully, she will get series regular status soon.
- Zach big brothering himself in a tent was a nice addition.
- Jack meeting with HR representatives was among the best scenes of the episode.

Best cameo: The Little Bear. How adorable was the little guy?

Best Quote:
Jack: It is always nice to put a face to the penis.
Mason: Not always.

Even though I'm not truly convinced, I believe that The Great Indoors has a great amount of potential. What did you think of The Great Indoor's series premiere? Will it keep you indoors or push you running out of the door. Vote in our Poll below and feel free to express yourself in the comment section.
