The Final Entries: The Vampire Diaries . . . Best twists so far

Dear Diary: I know it's been a while. A long while. I haven't needed... I haven't wanted to write this stuff down, but I don't want to say it out loud either. The thing is: The Vampire Diaries are ending, and I hate it. I feel hopeless, depressed, angry... but most of all, I'm scared.

Hello dear Vampire Diaries' fans and welcome to another Final Entry, if you missed last week's entry, Best songs so far, here is a quick reminder. Ahead of The Vampire Diaries eight and final season premiere we are taking a trip down memory lane and remember all the best the show gave to us, so far. And I think we all can agree that one of the best things the show gave us are the stunning Twists and Cliffhangers that made our jaws drop and head spin. As I've said last week this is a biased list based on my personal preferences and I look forward to hearing which twists are the ones you will mention to your grandchildren one day. So let's dig in into the drama.

Queen Katherine appears - Episode 1x22 "Founder's Day"

I really think this is one of the most memorable and unexpected moments in The Vampire Diaries' history. Instead of an expected heart to heart between the always forgiving Elena and the always self-righteous John Gilbert, we got chopped off fingers, blood spread all over the kitchen counter and John lying on the floor with a knife in his abdomen. Nina's transition from Elena to Katherine was impressive and just added so much to the scene. Bye John! Welcome, Katherine Pierce!

The Ancestors compelling Bonnie to feed Alaric her blood completing his transformation to UberOriginal Vampire - Episode 3x20 "Don't Go Gentle"

I really didn't see Esther's plan coming. Turning Alaric in a weapon to kill her children was such a jaw dropper. Still, the show was able to deliver a couple of shockers after this reveal. After an emotional and gut-wrenching goodbye to Alaric, who decided to starve himself into hibernation (in case you forgot), we switched to a completely out of it Bonnie feeding him was just too much. I knew Esther and the Ancestors would find a way to activate Alaric but not right after the his "funeral".

Elena finds out she is a Petrova Döppelganger and her death will break the The Curse - Episode 2x08 "Rose"

I was like What???? Not only that this is a moment that defined the next 3 and a half seasons but it was such a good scene. Rose's laid back "I don't care attitude" combined with Elena's cluelessness worked just so well. I miss Rose, I really do miss her, but that is beside the point now. The reveal of Elena being part of the Petrova doppelganger line shaped the direction of Vampire Diaries from here on.

Silas revealed as Stefan's doppelganger - Episode 4x23 "Graduation"

Speaking of Doppelgangers here is the mother or father of unexpected Look a likes! After a very hot and cold season 4, I didn't expect the season to end with this reveal. Silas being Stefan's doppelganger was a cliffhanger that held my attention throughout the summer of 2013. So many questions and my jaw still hurts from dropping that morning when I tuned into VD's season 4 final, it even itches when I see a safe or pass by a waterfall. LoL

Bonnie and Damon realize that they are trappedn in 1994 - Episode 5x02 "Yellow Ledbetter

Heading into season 5 the biggest mystery was all the ominous facts surrounding Bamon's whereabout, remember they've disappeared at the end of season 5. The reveal of them being stuck in 1994 and later build up of mythology surrounding all of this was just a juicy well layered and enjoyable twist. It gave me hope the VD writers still had it in them.

Elena finds Jenna after Klaus turned her to sacrifice and break the Hybrid curse - Episode 2x20 "The Last Day"

Terrifying! Another of Klaus' unredeemable actions. There are no words for what I was feeling when it was revealed that Klaus turned Jenna so he could sacrifice her in the ritual. The despair on Elena's face and the shock on Jenna's face couldn't even come close to the blank face I've had while watching the reveal at the end of The Last Day.

Damon kills Lexi - Episode 1x08 "162 Candles"

Welcome to your first class of 101 Guest Stars are disposable! Damon was stupid so many times over the course of 7 seasons but I'll never forgive him for killing Lexi. And when I say Damon, I mean the writers. Lexi added so much energy and power in her debut episode that her demise was a truly shocking moment, especially cause Damon did it. Luckily over the course of 5 seasons, we got plenty guest appearances from the adorable Arielle Kebbel as Lexi.

Elena turns into a Vampire - Episode 3x22 "The Departed"

At that point of my VD watching, I haven't read the books but knew Elena turned. Still, I didn't saw it coming in the season 3 finale. I mean there were no indications of it, the final was going "smoothly" for our guys and then out of nowhere we see Bekah in the middle of the road and things just went totally sideways and just moments later, Elena was waking up from her death.

A couple of Honorable Mentions:
- Katherine taking the cure.
- Mama Salvatore being alive in a 1903 Prison world with 6 Witch-Vampire hybrids
- Katherine turning Caroline.
- Silas and Amara being the original doppelgangers

Another walk down memory lane ended and the premiere of season 8 is just 2 more weeks away. I hope you enjoyed my little list but feel free to drop you favorite twists and/or cliffhangers in the comment section below. And next week I'll be revisiting Best Romantic Moments So Far hope to see you again.
