Showtime is filling out their upcoming dark comedy “I’m Dying Up Here,” which hails from executive producer Jim Carrey, adding four actors to the cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series, which shoots in L.A. this fall, is set in Los Angeles’ infamous stand-up comedy scene of the 1970’s when many superstar comic’s careers were launched. Melissa Leo stars as Goldie, a brassy comedy club owner who mentors up-and-coming comedians with tough love.

Sarah Hay, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for Starz’s ballet limited series “Flesh and Bone,” has joined the cast in a recurring role. She will play Tawny, the volatile young girlfriend of the newest comic at Goldie’s comedy club, Nick Beverly (Jake Lacy). Prior to “Flesh and Bone,” Hay’s career was as a professional ballet dancer. The Starz series marked her first acting debut, though she appeared as a dancer in “Black Swan.” She is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams LLP.

W. Earl Brown has also joined in a recurring role, and will play Teddy, Goldie’s greatest rival in the L.A. comedy club scene. Brown is known from “Deadwood,” and recently had big roles on AMC’s “Preacher,” ABC’s “American Crime” and HBO’s “True Detective.” He is repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency and Rawlins Company.

Jere Burns, who stars on the TBS comedy “Angie Tribeca,” will appear in one episode, guest starring as Sid Robbins, the ex-husband to Leo’s character, who is desperately still trying to hit it big in stand-up. Burns also starred in “Justified” on FX. He is repped by Innovative Artists and Trademark Entertainment.

Jocko Sims will also appear as a guest star in one episode, playing Melvin, Ralph’s (Erik Griffin) old Army buddy who returns to town bearing the scars of war. Sims, who stars on TNT’s “The Last Ship,” had a prominent recurring role on Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” in 2014, so “I’m Dying Up Here” brings him back into the network’s fold. He is repped by APA and Benedetti Entertainment.

“I’m Dying Up Here” stars series regulars Ari Graynor, Clark Duke, Michael Angarano, Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler, Al Madrigal, Stephen Guarino, Lacy and Griffin. The series is written by Dave Flebotte who serves as exec producer, along with Carrey, Michael Aguilar and Christina Wayne for Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment. The pilot, which is based on the non-fiction book by William Knoedelseder, was directed by Jonathan Levine.
