Scene Of The Week - April 3, 2016 + POLL

3 Apr 2016

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

AMERICAN CRIME STORY, "Manna from Heaven", March 29, 2016, Actors: Sterling K. Brown, Sarah Paulson, The Scene: Marcia and Christopher apologize to each other
Maximilian Conte:
Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden apologize to each other for their shortcomings during the case: most notably for not listening to each other. He apologizes for pushing to get OJ to try on the gloves, and she apologizes for ignoring his wishes not to use Mark Fuhrman as a witness.

BANSHEE, "Something Out of the Bible", April 1, 2016, Actors: Antony Starr and more
The Scene: Lucas flashes back
Samantha Benjamin:
Lucas flashes back to all the people who've been lost & pain that's been caused as he considers killing himself. Not a lot of actors can convey such a range of emotions and Anthony Starr always pulls it off.

BLINDSPOT, "Older Cutthroat Canyon", March 28, 2016, Actors: Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, The Scene: Jane and Kurt confront each other after she goes MIA
Klutzy girl:
Jane and Kurt confront each other after she goes MIA, and he tells her that he can't lose her again. It's so obvious how much he loves her and it made me emotional thinking about how he had already lost her once. And then Kurt admitting he'd do the same thing in her position just made all my feelings about them intensify.

BROAD CITY, "B&B-NYC", March 30, 2016, Actors: Ilana Glazer, Blake Griffin
The Scene: Ilana's "sex scene" with Blake Griffin
Maximilian Conte:
Realizing that, due to his stature, regular sex won't work, they decide to get creative.

BROOKLYN NINE NINE, "Paranoia", March 29, 2016, Actors: Stephanie Beatriz and more
The Scene: Jake and Rosa find Adrian before he leaves
Laura Markus:
Jake and Rosa take a walk to find Adrian before he goes into hiding.

CRIMINAL MINDS, "Tribute", March 30, 2016, Actors: Paget Brewster, Kirsten Vangsness
The Scene: Emily and Garcia talk in Derek's old office
Samantha Benjamin:
I love whenever Paget comes back, and it was a really sweet scene with Emily mimicking Derek & having a toast to him.

GREY'S ANATOMY, "When It Hurts So Bad", March 31, 2016, Actors: Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers
The Scene: Meredith talks to Alex about her trouble with moving on
Maximilian Conte:
Meredith talks to Alex in front of the fireplace about her trouble moving on from Derek and why she freaked out after sleeping with Will.

LUCIFER, "Pops", March 28, 2016, Actors: Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, The Scene: Trixie and Maze become friends
Aimee Hicks:
There were so many amazing scenes in this episode but the innocence in this scene made it stand out. Of course Maze’s first human friend would be the daughter of a woman she barely tolerates. Maze has always had a bit of a childish outlook at the world so I suppose it’s only fitting Trixie became her first friend. What really made this scene standout was Brandt’s ease with Estevez and she was very gracious with her young co-star. Estevez has this ability to steal scenes but so does Brandt so their combined energy allowed them both to shine in this moment of innocent connection. If you didn’t smile during this scene something is wrong with you. Yes, this is a strange friendship but somehow it works. Pending Chloe can get over Maze giving her daughter alcohol I could foresee some future babysitting scenes. This friendship also led Maze to her first real adult friendship with Dr. Linda so Trixie yet again weaseled her way into the heart of another demon and helped give them some life perspective. I hope these two share scenes together in the future. I’d love to see Maze taking advice from an eight year old.

NCIS LOS ANGELES, "Seoul Man", March 28, 2016, Actors: Eric Christian Olsen, Daniela Ruah
The Scene: Deeks' gift for Kensi
Samantha Benjamin:
Deeks writes an awful poem to make up for cleaning Kensi's desk up and frames her father's Marine badge as a gift.

SUPERGIRL, "Worlds Finest", March 28, 2016, Actors: Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin and more, The Scenes: National City's citizens help Supergirl & The first battle between Supergirl and The Flash vs. Silver Banshee and Livewire
Justyna K:
What a brilliant hour this was! I can honestly say I loved all the scenes with Kara and Barry. They were a wonderful duo and I already hope we'll get to see them meet again in the future. It also makes choosing just one scene from such a great episode almost impossible. So instead of highlighting one of the moments with these two heroes, I decided to go with the part when the citizens of National City finally see Supergirl for who she truly is and choose to defend her after she saves the people in the helicopter attacked by Livewire. I found it a bit strange it's the firefighters who ended up taking down the villains of the episode but I loved the thought behind this idea. And it's great to see Kara getting back people's trust after everything. The scene really seemed like one of its kind, we don't often see heroes protected by everyone they're trying to save. So here's a shout-out for that. Kudos to all the cast & crew for such a fantastic work on the episode.
Aimee Hicks: This scene showed off all four actors perfectly and allowed each team to show off how perfectly they worked together. Benoist and Gustin were meant to share the screen as these characters but so were Morgan and Ricci. If Greg Berlanti ever decides to do a villains series Morgan and Ricci need to be top of his cast list because these two are not only perfect villains but their similar acting energy really propels the larger than life personalities of each character. Morgan has played more than a few villains in her career so it wasn’t a stretch for her but I wasn’t sure if Ricci could reach the psychotic level required for the character’s evolution into Silver Banshee to work. It was in this scene as she stood in full Silver Banshee costume tag teaming the scene with Morgan that I fully believed the transformation. It was nice to see the villains win the first round because it showed that while Supergirl and The Flash are an amazing team they aren’t invincible. They needed a better plan to take down Silver Banshee and Livewire and this encounter showed that to Supergirl. It was a great superhero learning moment for Kara and therefore was a standout scene in a phenomenal crossover episode.

SUPERNATURAL, "Red Meat", March 30, 2016, Actors: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, The Scene: Sam bursts into the hospital to save Dean
Klutzy girl:
Even though he's bleeding out, Sam bursts into the hospital to take down a werewolf and save Dean. That was just one of several amazing moments of his during the episode and I'm not surprised he immediately collapsed afterwards.

THE FLASH, "Flash Back", March 29, 2016, Actors: Candice Patton, Rick Cosnett, Grant Gustin, The Scene: Barry shows Iris the video of Eddie
Justyna K:
I missed Eddie. He didn't start the series as one of my favorite characters but I found myself actually rooting for him and Iris at the end of season one. The scene where they choose each other and decide to ignore the future and everything telling them they wouldn't end up together is beautifully done and still great one to remember. As is this one. The writers and Candice Patton did a wonderful job portraying Iris' grief this season. She didn't just move on after a couple of weeks or months, but instead she's taking the time to accept her loss, keep the love and grow stronger before taking another chance. And it helped her character become even better than last year and to be a truly valuable member of Team Flash. Also, after last season's problems, it's great to see the bond and support between Iris and Barry. It was a lovely idea to record that video of Eddie to help get Iris some closure. So very much like our hero. And in the end, Eddie's message about Iris' strength and wishing her happiness was exactly what she needed to hear. "You don't need me." "You're the best the decision I ever made." And many other powerful words, with the great performances from both Candice Patton and Rick Cosnett are exactly why this is my choice for scene of the week. Kudos!

WYNONNA EARP, "Purgatory", April 1, 2016, Actors: Melanie Scrofano, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, The Scene: Wynonna saves Waverly from being hung
Aimee Hicks:
Television has very few good sibling relationships and I’m pleasantly surprised to see the Earp sisters join Supergirl’s Danvers sisters in being a great representation of a sibling relationship. It’s evident that one of the very few people Wynonna cares about is Waverly and the revenants knew that when they targeted the youngest Earp. Wynonna would do anything for her little sister but by this point in the episode she was also beginning to understand the weight of the responsibility placed upon her. She had to figure out a way to save her sister and protect Peacemaker and I think her plan was brilliant. This scene also showed how perfectly cast Melanie Scrofano and Dominique Provost-Chalkley are as sisters. Throughout the episode their every interaction showed how at ease these two actresses are with one another. As sisters these characters have an understanding and trust that Scrofano and Provost-Chalkley seem to just naturally have together and are able to instinctually infuse into their characters. The stakes were high in this scene and repeatedly Waverly was in imminent danger yet when it counted the most Wynonna came through for her sister. One of my favorite moments was when Wynonna ran to Waverly and supported her sisters’ weight so she could get a breath. Then she had to make the tough decision to let go and in that moment Scrofano beautifully showed how torn Wynonna was with what she had to do. This show has a bright future as long as they never lose sight of the fact that the Earp sisters’ dynamic is the heart of the show. I was impressed with this entire episode but this scene stood out for me.
