SpoilerTV - Fact or Fiction - SpoilerTV Team Weighs In

18 Jan 2016

Hello, all! It had been extraordinarily entertaining reading all the Fact or Fiction's two weeks ago. The response exceeded expectations by a mile. SpoilerTV randomly chose a bunch to discuss among themselves and so without further ado...

Pinkle: ABC will cancel both Castle and Nashville

Dark UFO
FICTION: I think Castle will be renewed for a shortened final season

Robert Fruin
FICTION: Castle will get renewed but only for a shortened final season. Nashville will get cancelled.

Bradley Adams
FACT. Nashville was probably kept around for a fourth season mostly due to it therefore reaching syndication. Now that we’re past that point, I see no reason for the show to stick around, particularly given its abysmal 0.8 rating for the midseason finale. Castle is less of a certainty. The ratings have been bad this season, and it’s only a matter of time once the show returns in February before it goes fractional. That being said, the show is in its eighth season and one would imagine that ABC would give it the chance for some proper closure. However, given Revenge’s fate last year (depleting ratings and an ending/cancellation announcement just weeks before the airing of the series finale), I wouldn’t be surprised if the alphabet network ended the show come May, and that’s what I’m predicting.

Assassin: Fox will cancel both Sleepy Hollow and Bones

DARK UFO
FACT: Ratings for Sleepy are very poor and the relationship with FOX for Bones has been soured due to the recent court cases

Robert Fruin
Fact: Sleepy Hollow is done for good. The poor performance throughout the season has resulted in a move to Fridays which is the networks way of quietly cancelling it. Bones might get another season but with the lawsuits and cast problems it will be hard.

Bradley Adams
FACT. A much simpler prediction here. Sleepy Hollow may be in season three, but its episode count isn’t nearly high enough to warrant a renewal for syndication, and its ratings are bad. Equally, Bones’ ratings are poor (the show went fractional earlier this season), and with lead actors David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel suing the network (EP Barry Josephson filed his own lawsuit as well), I see nothing but the 11th season being the show’s last.

Sandi wich
FACT: The relationship between Fox and Bones has gone south, causing the cast to sue for royalties. The figures are low for SH, and they tied it to the wrong show for future crossovers to help it.

Assassin:Limitless will be the only freshman drama renewed by CBS

DARK UFO
FICTION: CBS will also renew Supergirl.

ROBERT FRUIN
Fiction: CBS will renew Supergirl as well and possibly a midseason drama depending on how well they do.

Bradley Adams
FACT. I think predicting the fates of some of CBS’s line-up is the hardest of all the broadcast networks. This is one example, and there are numerous reasons why. Limitless is doing pretty well currently - it’s the network’s leading 10pm show and its second highest rated new drama of the season. However, CBS has a record of being unsatisfied in this timeslot, with Person of Interest and The Good Wife the only shows to survive more than a season in the slot (both are also the only shows to have survived a season in the slot since 2006). At this point, though, I’d expect the show to get renewed.

Will it be the only surviving new drama? Well, I’m confident Code Black will be a goner, but Supergirl is the biggest threat to this idea. While its average for the season is pushing 2.0, that is skewed somewhat by its high scoring premiere. The show levelled out at around 1.5 before Christmas, and an average like that is unacceptable for an 8pm show on CBS not airing on Friday or Sunday, and especially so given how much money the Eye network has put into the show. Based on that, the fact that the show has a slightly reduced episode order and that its ratings will likely drop during Spring, I’d lean towards predicting the show to be cancelled.

Of the shows yet to premiere, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders will be airing with a mothership lead-in. Criminal Minds is not as strong as it once was, and launching Suspect Behavior behind the original in 2011 was an unsuccessful choice. I would expect the same this time around. Rush Hour is yet to receive a premiere date (which alone leaves me questioning its fate) and, having seen the pilot myself, I don’t think audiences will take warmly to the show.

Laura Markus
I certainly hope this is FACT. I don't watch anything else so as long as Limitless gets renewed I'll be okay.

Mia:Person of Interest will be officially cancelled by CBS but picked up by another network or streaming service.

Dark UFO
FICTION: It will be cancelled by CBS but no other network/service will pick it up.

Robert Fruin
Fiction: I would love for it to continue on another network, but it's so rare that these things actually happen and I just can't see it.

Bradley Adams
FICTION (partially). Given that: a) the show has a 13-episode order for season five (like The Mentalist), b) the ratings at the back end of season four were declining, c) the show is owned by WB rather than CBS (like The Mentalist), d) the show is absent from the midseason schedule, and e) Michael Emerson was reported to admit at NYCC that this was the last season on CBS, there is no doubt in my mind that this will be the final run for the show on CBS. Netflix do have all four seasons to air so far, and there’s quite a bit of speculation amongst the POI fandom that the streaming service will pick up another season, with many campaigning on Twitter and the like to try and persuade Netflix to pick up a sixth season (for me, the jury is still out on whether I want one - if we get enough closure this season, then no need for another). Frankly, however, it would be insanity to expect a revival, let alone predict one. If it comes, then it comes, but the ratio of revived to cancelled shows suggests the chances are extremely slim.

Laura Markus
I believe this is FICTION, but I hope I am proved wrong.

Chris:Scream Queens gets renewed for a second season
*Update: Scream Queens is officially renewed*

Dark UFO
FACT: Ryan Murphy, plus decent +7/+3 numbers and social media might just get this show a 2nd season

Robert Fruin
Fiction: If it gets a second season FOX will become even more laughable.

Pinkle:The Legends of Tomorrow premiere ratings will come close, but not beat The Flash’ ratings

Dark UFO
FACT: I cannot see it beating The Flash.

Robert Fruin
FACT: Can't see it doing that. It will rate high but not that high.

Bradley Adams
FACT. The Flash hitting a 1.9 for its pilot episode was an incredible feat, one that not many would have predicted. While Legends of Tomorrow has been highly anticipated since news of the show made headlines, I don’t think Legends will be the show to break that 2.0 mark. Realistically, I think a 1.7 is about as high as it will get. That being said, it’s got the best chance of hitting 2s, and I wouldn’t be too surprised if it did.

Kollin Lore
FICTION! There is always that one show that exceeds expectations, and I think Legends of Tomorrow will be that show. Why? Team ups are all the rage and people will eat it up. Granted, it all depends on the quality of the show, but I am sticking with the unpopular opinion here. Those who watch Arrow, but not the Flash will tune in and vice versa, on top of dedicated fans of both.

James: The Flash: Earth-1 Eddie is alive and well.

Robert Fruin
Fiction: He's deader than dead. Maybe Earth 2 Eddie but not a chance Earth 1 Eddie is still kicking.

Bradley Adams
FICTION. 2015 was the year of the fake-out death. Everywhere I seemed to turn, someone would supposedly die, only to be brought back. A lot of these were clearly ambiguous deaths (or obvious plot devices), but Eddie’s really was not. Not only did we witness him shoot himself in the chest and bleed out, but his suicide erased Eobard Thawne from existence (in Earth-1). Not only would it be unrealistic from a logic point of view if Eddie survived that, but it would create all kinds of problems with time. There is no way that the show is going to do this.

Sandi Wich
FICTION: He died so that Eobard would not exist, and we saw that and all it entailed play out in front of our eyes. Earth-2 Eddie may well appear at some point however, probably just as Iris and Barry decide on their feelings for each other so that his being there becomes a third wheel.

Kollin Lore
Clearly Fiction. I don't think they will even bring back earth-2 Eddie, as his character is just not needed anymore.

Daniel:Arrow: Diggle is the one in Arrow’s grave

Robert Fruin
Fiction: Barry wouldn't be there if it was Diggle. More like Thea or Felicity.

Bradley Adams
FICTION. I’ve studied that grave long and hard, and there is no way that it is big enough to fit a coffin made for a fully sized adult, let alone the human tank that is John Diggle. Also, while the storyline with Andy may come to a head during the course of this season, I find it hard to believe that the show would wrap up his story and immediately kill him off, particularly given that his main role since the end of season one has been to stand in the background with his arms folded.

Sandi Wich
FICTION: Ending the brotherhood relationship would be a bad move. Plus I think it will come down to Merlyn and Darhk feuding over their daughters. Merlyn isn't happy about whatever he's done to Thea and so will take his revenge out by threatening Darhk's daughter, or Darhk wants more of whatever mojo he got from Thea when he took her blood-lust and go too far. I think it's either Thea in the grave, or possibly Oliver's son if he stepped in and got caught up in it too. The finale showdown being Oliver against both Merlyn and Darhk, both of whom are also fighting each other too, would be more satisfying than a straight Arrow teams up with Merlyn against Darhk battle.

Shannon:Amara will kill Rowena on Supernatural.

Kollin Lore
Rowena has served her purpose on this show. Amara will have to kill someone to prove how sinister she is and Rowena is likely. Fact.

Jessica Boggs:Supernatural: Amara will be defeated by season’s end

Kollin Lore
FACT. I would have said fiction earlier on in Season 11 as Amara was built up as a big bad that is too powerful to last for only just one season. However, now that Lucifer is back in the mix and next season is likely to be the last season, I think Amara will be defeated by episode 23 to close out with Lucifer in their final year. It is only fitting.

Emma:It will be announced that Noah Wyle will be a regular for S3 of The Librarians

Robert Fruin
Fact: For sure. With Falling Skies out of the way he is available.

Sandi Wich
likely FACT: He'd be a good addition if he stays commitment free.

Kollin Lore
FICTION. Yes, Falling Skies is done, but I think the writers of The Librarians are smart enough to recognize that they got something special going on with the current main cast. Throwing Noah Wyle in there will muck things up and take the spotlight away from everyone else. The Librarians does not need his presence on a weekly basis and he will continue to be a special attraction every odd episode.

Alex S:Grey’s Anatomy: Grey’s will have a big season finale ala plane crash or shooting.

Robert Fruin
Fact: Something big will happen this season towards the end, though nothing quite as big as the shooting or plane crash though.

Ivan:The Shannara Chronicles will be renewed for a second season

Dark UFO
FACT: Even if it gets low ratings I don't think the MTV will want to give up on it as it's been pretty expensive

Robert Fruin
Fact: Critics are already raving about the show and I think it has garnered enough interest to do well in order to secure a renewal.

Sandi Wich
FACT: It's been expensive to set up the world the show exists in, MTV are proud of it, and as long as they don't make too many massive changes then the fans will want to adaptation to continue.

Pablo Tronsoco:How To Get Away with Murder: Bonnie will be killed this season

Robert Fruin
Fiction: Bonnie is going to jail this season. If anyone is going to die I think it will be one of the Keating 5.

Laura Marcus
I'm going to say FICTION. Someone might die in the finale, just like in season 1, but I don't think it'll be Bonnie.

Julio:The 100: Bellamy dies by the end of the season

Robert Fruin
Fiction: No chance. If anyone is going to die this season it will be Lincoln or Abby.

Sandi Wich
FICTION: I don't think they are brave enough to do that, although it would be an interesting idea.

Stefanie Jon:The 100: Clarke will choose the Grounders over the Sky People
Robert Fruin
Fact: No comment.

Sandi Wich
FICTION: I think we will continue to see people from the Ark become more and more like Grounders - distinct tribes forming as politics become more of an issue in this larger, and freer, world that they now live in. Clarke may choose some of the Sky People over others, and even some Grounders over others. But I think the lines between the two are going to become too meshed for this to be as straightforward as the the question allows.

Elysa:The 100 will be renewed for S4

Robert Fruin
Fact: The shows deal with Netflix will be enough to guarantee at least one more outing.

Sandi Wich
FACT: Netflix, plus the CW are proud of it and obviously want the story to be completed.

Dark UFO
FACT: The 4 Season Deal with Netflix should make this happen

Theratingsjunkie:Mike and Molly will out-rate 2 Broke Girls

Dark UFO
FACT: Just a gut feel

Robert Fruin
Fact: The cancellation of Mike and Molly was shocking and I wouldn't be surprised to see it outdo all the other comedies (Excluding Big Bang Theory)

Perry Da Platypus: Grimm will be renewed for a final season.

Dark UFO
FACT: Just a gut feel again

Robert Fruin
Fact: Most definitely.

Kollin Lore
Fiction. Grimm will be renewed, but I don't see next season as being the last season. I think it will end season 7.

Letti:Once Upon a Time season 6 will be announced as its last

Dark UFO
FACT

Robert Fruin
Fiction: Not happening. It's still a stable(ish) performer and the shows deal with Netflix is enough to warrant another season.

Bradley Adams
FICTION. I think a final season announcement is entirely possible. The ratings aren’t what they once were, and from what I’ve seen, the fandom appears to be split in terms of the success of creative choices in recent times. However, it still delivers some pretty good ratings (though a series low of 1.3 in both of its most recent episodes could be a sign of things to come) and I think it is difficult to suggest at the moment that from a ratings standpoint, the show will be done come May 2017. I may be forced to change my tune a little after March 6th when the show returns, but for now, I wouldn’t expect season six to be its last (and, worth noting: even if it does turn out to be, will ABC announce it this early?)

Sandi Wich
FICTION: I think they'll go with seven seasons.

RevengerNikki:Once Upon a Time: Rumple will die this season

Robert Fruin
Fiction: If they wanted him dead he would have died seasons ago. He will live to see another season.

Sandi Wich
FICTION: He's too big of a draw.

Plactus:Elecktra will die on Daredevil this season

Laura Markus
Hmmm. I'll say FACT but it could go either way. After all, Fisk survived.

Kollin Lore
Fiction; I don't see this happening. She has such a rich history in the comics, I think by season's end there will still be a lot to explore with her character for a Daredevil season 3.

Spindae2:If Containment gets the post Flash slot it will do 1.0 or higher for its premiere

Robert Fruin
Fact: The quality is there within the show for it gain interest. Though I expect it will drop heavily.

Bradley Adam
FICTION. iZombie premiered to a 0.8 out of Flash’s 1.3 on March 17th last year. While The Flash has been consistently higher than that in the first half of its sophomore season, I’d expect it to fall a little in its post-Christmas run, perhaps levelling out around 1.2. I don’t think that Containment is more compatible with Flash than iZombie was/is, so the idea of its retention being ( in relative terms) far higher is very far-fetched to me.

DartheLocke:Norma will meet her demise before season 4 ends on Bates Motel

Dark UFO
FACT: I think that will happen in the Season 4 Finale

Sandi Wich
FACT: It will push Norman forward character wise, plus there's not much more she can achieve in the show, unfortunately.

Joy Haldor:The Vampire Diaries will get cancelled this season

Dark UFO
FACT

Robert Fruin
Fiction: It's doing terrible but I think it will get at least a final season.

Plactus:Whether this season of The Walking Dead or next, Glenn’s death from the comics will happen to another character instead

Robert Fruin
Fiction: Glenn will still die and by Negan's hands (Or bat I should say). Glenn at this point is expendable. He's developed heavily throughout the seasons and there isn't anything left for him to do apart from just be there.

Bradley Adams
FICTION. While The Walking Dead has often changed certain elements of storylines from the graphic novels, Glenn’s death at the hands of Negan and his spiked bat, Lucille, is such a big moment that I would expect the show to use this as it was. With Glenn’s recent fake-out death, there’s a lot of speculation that Glenn has now become one of the few characters they will never kill. While I can see the logic there, I feel that Negan ending his life in his first or second appearance is still a strong possibility. While I’m split on whether I actually want this to happen (it might be quite funny for the show to pretend to kill him, only to actually do it half a season later; equally, if they do actually kill him in the season six finale or seventh season premiere, that entire dumpster nonsense will have been rendered even more pointless than it already is), I’d be quite surprised if they deviated from the graphic novel.

Kollin Lore
FACT. The show has not followed the comics often, if at all, with regards to the fates of many its characters. For example, Hershel in the show got the Tyrese treatment at the hands of the Governor. I see this continuing with the storyline involving Negan. The showrunners want even the hardcore readers to be surprised and thus, Glenn will not be the victim of Lucille.

If you were to ask me who do I think will replace him? I'm going with Daryl. Yes, you heard me say it! Daryl will die. I think the awesomeness of Jesus will help soften the blow. Also, the death of Daryl will not affect ratings. People will still tune in, so why not?

Well, that does it for our winter edition of Fact or Fiction. If readership is strong enough, Fact or Fiction will be renewed and air sometime during the summer for a fall edition. Or we may cancel it just because, and Fact or Fiction will disappear faster than Firefly.
In the meantime, feel free to leave your thoughts below!
