The Originals - Beautiful Mistake - Review

14 Nov 2015

This week’s episode was without a doubt the best of the season so far, at least that’s my opinion. Rebekah was back in her old body, only do be put to sleep by Aya despite Freya’s best efforts to help her. Marcel and Hayley got their asses handed to them by Shen Min, who killed himself before he could give the Strix’ secrets away.. Klaus tried to get information out of Aurora and discovered what she, Lucien and Tristan have been planning. Cami and Will were kidnapped by Lucien who needed Cami to find an amulet.

Favorite character: Rebekah is back! Or at least she was for 40 minutes. But I’ll take what I can get. I don’t think I actually realized how much I missed present-day-Rebekah until this week. I did not expect to see Claire, and I certainly didn’t expect them to kill off Maisie. But you won’t hear me complain. I loved every single one of her scenes. From her fight scenes to her relationship with Freya and her commitment to Kol. I hope to see a lot more of her, and soon!
Least favorite character: You know, I could have really liked Aya. But she went after my favorite character which officially landed her on my nope-list. I got very worried that she would actually kill Rebekah. The sentences “Oh hell no” and “If you kill her I’m so done with this show” went through my head. Luckily she only put her to sleep. I have to admit that they’re plan is not that bad, though I really wish it had something to do with un-siring. Because the thing with the sirebond is that it renders any threat to Klaus insignificant. We know they’re not going to kill him off because then they would lose 85% of the cast of ‘The Vampire Diaries’. I’m still worried about Rebekah though. So far, Clair has been open to coming back for short stints, but she may decide to leave permanently or the writers could decide that they’re through with Rebekah. I just have a bad feeling.

Most surprisingly civilized pair: Am I the only one who was shocked to see Klaus and Elijah sitting there after their fight. Don’t get me wrong, I was pleasantly surprised. I’m glad they’re working together instead of wasting time fighting each other. But there’s no way we’ve heard the end of this.

Most surprising revelation: And speaking of surprises, my jaw dropped when Elijah revealed what he did to Lucien, Tristan and Aurora. That is seriously messed up. To make someone think they’re someone else, to mess with their heads like that. And if that wasn’t enough, it also made them bait for Mikael. So many things make sense now. No wonder those three seem so unhinged. I’d be crazy too if I’d believed I was someone else for a century. I did not expect this from Elijah, especially not back then. You can’t really blame them for wanting revenge. I guess now we know why Elijah turned Tristan.
Most pitiful character: Okay, I kind of felt bad for Will this week. I may not have liked him in the past few episodes, but no one deserves that. I’m not sure if we’ll see him again, after the way Lucien compelled him towards the end. But I do know that there is no way Cami is going to let the serial killer case go now.

Scariest character: We may not have seen all that much of him, but I still feel like Shen Min deserved to be mentioned. Because that dude was scary as hell. I’m pretty sure he could take all three Originals. I mean, he kicked both Marcel and Hayley’s ass with a werewolf bite. Everyone was so terrified of him, I really want to know what his history with the Original family is. You don’t get that freaked out without having encountered him before.

The plan: So the plan that will most likely dominate the rest of this half of the season, maybe even further than that, is to lock Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah away behind an unbreakable boundary. Technically it’s so that no one can harm them, but I’m pretty sure the major motivator is revenge. Davina also fits into this plan somehow, though I’m not sure why they need her and can’t just use another witch. So the trend on this show (and on The Vampire Diaries) is that when a big plan like this is revealed, it’s usually completed. That’s probably what the prophecy is about. So my guess is that they will be locked up, but that someone is going to find a way to get through that “unbreakable” boundary.

What still confuses me: I can’t figure Aurora out. At this point, I have no idea who’s side she’s on or what her purpose for taking Rebekah’s body is. She seems to be on Klaus’ side for now but I can’t help but feel like she’s got a plan of her own and will double cross him soon.
Best quotes: Rebekah: “ Bloody Hell”
Elijah: “How the head?” Freya: “Spinning. I don’t think it’s the hangover.”
Hayley: “I don’t care if she’s a gemini and likes long walks on the beach, Marcel. Why was he following me?”

So that’s it for this week. Check in again next week for an all new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
