Amanda Brooks (My Best Friend’s Girl) has signed on to Showtime’s Chicago-set hourlong drama pilot from Dear White People‘s Lena Waithe, Common, Clark Johnson and Aaron Kaplan. She will play Sarah, an assistant chef at a posh restaurant in uptown Chicago, who has taken on Brandon (Tosin Cole) as her protégé, convinced that he might be able to work his way out of kitchen duty. Sarah is merciless in teaching Brandon his trade, and lets him know in no uncertain terms that he’ll need to have a complete commitment to transform himself from dishwasher to cook. If the pilot goes to series, Brooks would be a series regular. She’s repped by SMS Talent and LINK.

  • 00:30 - USA Network Pilot - Brooklyn Animal Control - Stephen Graham Joins Cast
EXCLUSIVE: Boardwalk Empire alum Stephen Graham is set to topline USA Network’s drama pilot Brooklyn Animal Control, based on the IDW Publishing comic created by JT Petty. Additionally, Brian Kirk (Game Of Thrones) has signed on to direct the pilot and will also executive produce alongside David S. Goyer.

Written and executive produced by Petty, Brooklyn Animal Control follows the inner workings of a secret subdivision of the NYPD that functions as social services for some of the city’s most unique citizens — werewolves. It centers on John Crean (Graham), an officer of the Brooklyn Animal Control who is well-acquainted with the small community of werewolves to which he plays cop, counselor, and diplomat. When backed against a wall, he will buck tradition and risk everything to protect his miscreant son.

After the “nightmare” of her daughter Letty, Estelle sees Jacob as her do-over. She talks tough and is very serious about being Jacob’s guardian. But in her efforts to be a good mother she may be doing even more damage. Like Letty, Estelle has dark demons…and way too much fun. Kinney, repped by Brookside Artist Management, is Christian, Letty’s substance abuse counselor. A mentor and father figure to a woman who lives at her lowest point. Christian doesn’t always hear the truth from Letty, but he’s lying to her, as well, not only about his own sobriety, but also about why he’s really “helping” her. • 20:55 - ABC Buys 2 Dramas in Development: Deja Vu & The Invaders from the Company behind Wicked City & The Family
ABC has bought two drama projects from ABC Studios-based Mandeville, which is behind two new ABC drama series for this season, Wicked City and The Family. Deja Vu, described as a metaphysical love story, comes from Ringer creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder; The Invaders is a dark, humorous soap based on the book by Karolina Waclawiak. ABC Studios is the studio.

Deja Vu centers on a successful business woman who, after losing her husband and soul mate twenty-two years ago, finally gets a second chance at love. • 20:45 - Imaginary Friend - Live Action Comedy with CGI Animation Receives Pilot Order at ABC from The Goldbergs Producer
EXCLUSIVE: In a very competitive situation, ABC has landed Imaginary Friend, a comedy blending live-action and CGI animation from Oscar-winning Disney feature animator Patrick Osborne and The Goldbergs team of creator/executive producer Adam F. Goldberg, executive producer David Guarascio, Happy Madison and Sony Pictures TV. The project has received a pilot production order, which has a series penalty attached.

Written by Goldberg and Guarascio and co-created by Osborne, Imaginary Friend centers on a thirtysomething bachelor whose life is turned upside-down when he finally meets the love of his life, a divorced working mom with three kids. This triggers even more upheaval when the slightly unhinged imaginary friend he created as an only child suddenly reappears in his life to help him navigate the transition from single guy to family man. I hear the imaginary friend character will be a CGI creation in a live-action environment. Goldberg, Guarascio, Osborne and Happy Madison executive produce.

ABC, which won the project in a bidding situation, had been considered a natural home for Imaginary Friend as the network carries The Goldbergs and is a sibling to the Walt Disney Animation Studios where Osborne has been based. Additionally, ABC has another hybrid comedy on the air, The Muppets, which combines actors and puppets.

Osborne, who worked as animator on such Disney movies as Bolt, Tangled andWreck-It Ralph, made his writing and directing debut with the studio’s 2014 animated short Feast which won an Oscar earlier this year.
