    ———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR and digital usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

    ———-

    -Summer Stalwart: “Big Brother” (CBS)
    -Vast Improvement: “Dateline” (R (NBC)
-Sluggish: “The First Astronaut Wives Club” (ABC), “Mistresses” (ABC), “Rookie Blue” (ABC), “Under the Dome” (CBS)
-Cannot Compete: “Boom!” (Fox), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW), “Dates” (CW)

    ———-

    Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this final July Thursday, besting No. 2 NBC by nine percent in the household overnights. But NBC has benefited by the recent addition of two-hour encore telecasts of “Dateline,” which averaged a 3.8 rating/7 share from 9-11 p.m. and is a vast improvement over recent time period occupants “Aquarius” and “Hannibal.”

Earlier in the evening on NBC was competition series “Food Fighters” at a third-place 2.6/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.

CBS had nothing unusual to report with its line-up of repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the night: 5.0/ 9) and “Mom” (#1: 3.6/ 6) from 8-9 p.m., perennial summer player “Big Brother” (#1: 4.0/ 7) and diluted “Under the Dome” (#2: 2.9/ 5), which last week dropped by 47 percent in adults 18-49 from “Big Brother” (1.9 to 1.0 rating), based on the Live + Same Day data.

ABC remained in all originals last night, but the trio of older-skewing dramas – “The Astronaut Wives Club” (#2: 3.2/ 6), “Mistresses” (#3: 2.6/ 5) and “Rookie Blue” (#3: 2.7/ 7) – all left little to be desired. And recent Fox game show addition “Boom!” only managed a 1.5/ 3 at 8 p.m. (#4) in the household overnights into a repeat of “Bones” (#4: 1.7/ 3 at 9 p.m.).

Last, and exceptionally weak, was The CW’s combination of “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.8/ 1) and two episodes of British sitcom “Dates” (#5: avg. 0.4/ 1 from 9-10 p.m.).

  • About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below).
