Complications - Diagnosis - Review: “Interrogation”

Well, well, well. It looks like John fits in with the gang better than I thought. I've been wondering for weeks why John seems so intent on staying involved with the gang. Sure he's played up and talked about how he doesn't like his involvement but he hasn't made much of a real effort to break free and now we know why. Deep down it seems that John actually likes being a part of something dangerous. We saw our first glimpse of this when he threatened the hibachi restaurant manager when they deemed his daughters oxygen tank a safety hazard. I’m happy they’ve finally addressed the fact that John is not just doing this because he feels threatened it's way deeper than that. Darius also called him out when he stated that he knows what it looks like when a man does something when threatened and that's not John. He even had the opportunity to come clean to the police but he still decided to just keep going along with the gang’s plan, which I’ll get into a bit more later.

Gretchen continued to grow on me this episode. I especially loved how she stood up to Darius and won him over with her toughness and no-nonsense attitude. She really made an impression on him and I thought they had a really good vibe together in their scenes. I'm looking forward to seeing them interact more. However, for most of the episode, Gretchen was on a mission to find Elio the brother of the girl that died in the previous episode. When she finds him what she sees is very disturbing. It seems like he's living with an abusive neighbor or family member. I wasn't worried though because I knew Gretchen wouldn't let it go. She put her own safety at risk but she ensured that she got Elio out of there and that was really brave of her. She might be in some trouble now though because at the end of the episode we found out that Jed, her partner in crime, has been arrested and it won't be long before they find out all about the operation they're running with that other random guy we saw a while ago. I’m glad they're revisiting that because I was wondering what that was all about. It looks like we'll be finding out the extent of their shady dealings in the coming weeks.

Things seem to have escalated very quickly since last week. Everyone is closing in on John and his web of lies. The detective has been suspicious since last episode and he acted on it by bringing John in to answer some questions but it really turned into more of an interrogation. He's really figured it all out and I'm impressed, and also not surprised because John hasn't done a great job of hiding his involvement. In fact, I don't know why the Detective needs to rely on a confession so much. For example, it would be pretty easy to confirm that John had met members of the gang before last night at the hospital through some kind of security footage, like Easy’s prison or anywhere else they've all gone together.

At first I was confused what John’s charges would have been, hanging out with sketchy people isn’t really a crime, but now I understand he's basically kidnapped Antoine which obviously is a pretty serious crime. When push comes to shove, John decides to side with the gang over the cops. I’m not sure why John doesn't just come clean, as I said before, this detective has literally figured it all out already. I’m sure he has options go into the witness protection program or something, so the only other explanation is that he really does like it. John says he’s just on the side that keeps everyone alive but it seems like he’s looking out for his friends as opposed to looking out for his family and future. He covers everything up with a story about having a drug problem, which somehow covers everything shady he’s done and makes sense because the detective has no real evidence to connect him to any of this, just theories, although the theories are spot on.

I thought for sure that Bridget would immediately tell the police everything she knew so I was surprised when she held back at first. She has some loyalty to John, which is nice, but I guess her loyalty to the hospital and her morals worked out in his favor when she eventually shared everything she knew with the detective. I still think she's going about all of this the wrong way. If she's suspicious about John and thinks he's up to no good than why would she call him and tell him everything she has on him? That's how people get killed, by letting people know that they know too much. She needs to just keep her mouth shut and stay out of it now that the police are onto John.

Things are definitely starting to get crazy and it seems like the longer John keeps his involvement to himself, the more trouble he’ll be in when everything falls apart. I know this review is a bit late but I’m going to try to get tonight’s episode review up in the next couple of days so just bare with me!
