Baby Daddy - Parental Guidance Suggested - Review: “All of Me”

I wanted to love this episode. I really, really did. I think it had so much potential and it fell short a bit for me. I was expecting a bit more of the flash forward/alternate reality and instead it was just tiny little snippets. I feel like a whole episode in a world without Ben would have been interesting. Nothing against him - I was just expecting something a bit more along those lines. There was a big group song and dance number and an engagement though so that definitely makes up for it!

The main question of this episode was - what would happen if something happened to Ben? If he died? Who would take care of Emma? While Ben and Tucker take Emma to her doctor’s appointment, Ben admits that he hasn’t been to the doctor in years. At first he brushes it off, but once he realizes the doctor in question would be a beautiful woman, he’s definitely on board. Typical Ben. When the appointment is over Ben tells Tucker that they found a lump on one of “his boys” and he’s really freaked out. He never thought anything like that would happen to him and he doesn't have a plan set up now that he’s a father. He has 24 hours before he finds out if he’s alright and he’s on a mission to find the perfect guardian for Emma, just in case.

Meanwhile, at the bar, Brad is back! However, due to an eye issue he has to wear glasses making him look exactly like his identical twin, Tad. I love how Danny kept getting so confused and falling for him being Tad even when he knew it was Brad. He’s such a lovable idiot! Anyways, Brad really misses Bonnie and wants her back, so when she arrives at the bar he acts like he’s Tad to avoid her hatred and to have a chance to talk to her. They mainly talk about Brad and Bonnie’s relationship and it makes Bonnie realize that she still loves and wants Brad too. She decides she needs to call him immediately to tell him and in the heat of the moment Brad kisses her - as Tad! Bonnie immediately feels guilty for kissing Tad and calls off her plan to call Brad. With no other choice Brad reveals himself (by taking off his glasses! lol) and Bonnie is furious that he lied to her so she breaks up with him for good! Bronnie is over! I've really missed Brad and I’m happy he’s back. I think he’s perfect for Bonnie and who else could match her or put up with her??

While all this has been happening at the bar, Ben has been busy trying to determine a guardian for Emma. He suggests to Riley that she be Emma's guardian and she freaks out. She doesn’t think that she can handle the responsibility and is worried that she’ll ruin Emma because of the less than stellar example she had growing up. She suggests Bonnie and this is where the fun begins! Ben mulls it over and thinks it’s an alright idea, until he imagines what that would look like. He sees Bonnie taking care of the bar and talking about Ben. We see a teenage Emma doing homework at a table. Just as Bonnie says how alike they are we see Emma jump up and exclaim that her water just broke! She really is just like Bonnie, a pregnant teenager. After imagining this, Ben quickly rules Bonnie out as an option. Later, when walking with Tucker, Ben imagines what Tucker would look like as Emma’s guardian. He sees Emma, probably about ten years old, walking down the street with Tucker and helping him pick up girls. This doesn’t sit quite right with Ben either, so he’s once again back to Riley.

Ben asks Riley again but she reacts the same way. She still can’t handle it and suggests Danny. This is my favorite part of the episode! Danny and Riley shippers got a glimpse into what Danny and Riley would look like as a couple and they’re so cute! Ben sees Danny and Riley talking about getting married and how they’ll all be a family soon. Before we can get a Danny/Riley kiss, Ben barges into his own vision and proclaims he’s not really dead, breaking up their cute moment. Ben very quickly rules out this idea because he’s still not over Riley. I do find it interesting though that Ben’s first thought about Danny’s future without him involves Danny marrying Riley. To me, it’s almost as if Ben subconsciously knows that Danny is really meant to be with her not him. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking but I just thought it was weird that that was what he thought of first.

Brad is desperate to win Bonnie back and so he asks for the whole gang’s help with a big plan. The next scene is a huge song and dance number, a flash mob, on the street that Bonnie is walking down. She gets whisked away to a bench as Brad serenades her with “All of Me” by John Legend. There’s tons of dancers, including Ben, Danny, Tucker, and Riley. At the end of the song Brad gets down on one knee and proposes!!! After a little bit of a hard time Bonnie excitedly agrees and I’m so happy for her!! Even though she’s obnoxious a lot of the time, she's still a huge part of what makes this show so hilarious and special and this is a fairytale ending for her. The song and dance somehow felt very out of place for this show yet still fit right in and was perfect for the moment. I was really surprised at how emotional I got. It was a really beautiful moment.

After all that excitement, Riley takes Ben aside on the balcony of the apartment and tells him she’s reconsidered and as much as it scares her, she will be Emma’s guardian, if necessary. Ben is very happy and they share a really sweet moment with a hug and kiss on the cheek. This is how I love Ben and Riley. As friends. When they’re more like brother and sister and best friends is when their relationship really shines and I wish we could see more of that instead of Ben pining for her every episode. Anyways, Ben gets the call from the doctor that everything is fine but at least he has a plan set up just in case.

The episode closes with Ben and Riley on the couch, kissing, talking about how happy they are to be together and engaged. It threw me off a bit but then Danny wakes Ben up and tells him he’s just dreaming. You know, I’d actually forgotten that Ben was still in love with Riley so I’m glad they reminded us and gave us this little clip…said no one ever. I’m starting to feel like a broken record with this whole Ben and Riley thing but I really hate this ending. Why ruin a perfectly decent episode with more of the most annoying aspect of this show! There’s nothing more to say at this point except they need to stop. But…let’s just move on. Here are some of my favorite quotes from last night’s episode. Let me know in the comments if you agree/disagree or what some of your favorites were!

“I check myself out at least twice a day, and from where I’m standing, everything looks just fine.” - Ben
“You should try standing over here.” - Tucker

“If you’re implying that I just came by with the hopes of running into Bonnie to rekindle our romance because no matter how hard I try I can’t get her out of my mind, well, then you are both dead wrong” - Brad

“Well, not that I care, but how is your brother? Miserable? Depressed? Alone? Desperately trying to make peace with the fact that his best days are behind him? God, he had a great ass!” - Bonnie

“24 hours! Dude, that’s almost a whole day!” - Tucker

“Oh, hey, Tad! I think your brother’s here somewhere.” - Danny

“I always say I want Emma to grow up to be just like you…with maybe a skosh less anxiety.” - Ben

“Naturally, everyone assumes we’re sisters.” - Bonnie

“Bronnie is over!! Yes, I gave us a nickname.” - Bonnie

“I don’t know what to do Emma. I have to pick someone, but I just can’t imagine a world where I’m not around to watch you grow up.” - Ben

“You do realize they only win if I’m dead, right?” - Ben

“Just a few more days and I’ll get to marry my best friend. We’ll finally be a family.” - Riley

What did you think of last night’s episode? Who do you think is the best guardian for Emma? Are you excited about Bonnie’s engagement? Let me know in the comments and see you next week!

  1. Baby Daddy Writers: See? They’re together in this kind-of-future scenario. Isn’t that great? They’ll get together eventually. Right after we make Ben and Riley get together and breakup a few more times just to make sure you REALLY don’t want them, and have Danny date a parade of women. But that’s okay because they’re going to happen regardless. So whatever we do before then isn’t going to piss you off. Our logic is flawless!

  2. "said no one ever" LOL

I think I agree with you Kate. I think I would have liked the Flash Forward aspect of the episode if they'd gone with one of the cliches where either Ben would be dreaming or Ben hit his head and we had the bulk of the the episode being the Flash Forward.

But I have to say I loved the proposal! It was so out of place in the episode that it surprised me as much as it did Bonnie.
