Scene Of The Week - June 7, 2015 - POLL

7 Jun 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

COMMUNITY, "Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television", June 2, 2015, Actors: Joel McHale and more, The Scene: The group hug
Pablozky21:
Community had its (series?) finale and it was all I could have asked for. The sweetest and most heartwarming moment came when everyone gathered around the old study room and Jeff told them that he is grateful for the time he had with them, that they saved him, saved his life and that he loves them all. It was tender and bittersweet as we know Annie and Abed are leaving town, but they are evolving, and we know that those who stayed behind will be fine, because they still have each other. Life may be pulling them apart, but even then the effects of spending so many years together stick, and in that regard they'll always be with each other. That's what that powerful scene portrays, and that's the best way to put Community to bed... until the movie comes out. Also picked by A Dahne

GAME OF THRONES, "Hardhome", May 31, 2015, Actors: Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage and more, The Scenes: The Wights attack Hardhome & Tyrion and Daenerys' conversation
Justyna K:
For a week I was excited to see Tyrion and Dany's interactions and they were absolutely brilliant. I was so sure their conversation will end up being my scene of the week until the final 15 minutes of the episode. That was a truly spectacular sequence! Kudos to every single person responsible for creating it! It was completely unexpected, powerful, intense and so very memorable. My favorite part had to be Jon's fight with the White Walker. Now, that's a great sword! Loved the moment when they both realized that the Valyrian Steel couldn't be broken. Sadly, despite this one great win, there was no chance to win this battle. In fact, the better word for this attack would be a massacre. Watching this horrifying defeat really makes you see everything else happening on the show in a different perspective. The biggest threat is now so close it feels like the winter has finally come. It's the scenes like this one that make the show impossible not to watch. It's hard to imagine anything more significant than the events in Hardhome happening in the final episodes of the season but I can't wait to see what's next.
Sandi: Episode eight is the new episode nine it seems! All hell broke loose north of The Wall when the Night King sent his Wight army to attack the village of Hardhome just as Jon and Tormund attempt to talk the last of the Wildlings into joining them. It looks stupendous for a TV budget and I am truly amazed at what can be achieved in 25 days with only 300 extras. Each and every person involved in the making of that sequence deserves full credit for pulling it off. Highlights from it obviously include Jon's fight with the White Walker, Wun Wun the giant and poor Karsi being taken down by the Wight children. Also picked by Darth Locke
Nirat Anop: I loved the look on Jon & the White Walkers face as the White Walker realised his Valyrian Steel sword couldn't be broken, priceless.
Pablozky21: Tyrion and Daenerys' conversation - I've been waiting for this to happen all season long; two of my favorite characters meeting up and proving that together they could be a fearsome force to mess with. I like how it went down, it felt really natural, it seemed like Tyrion and Daenerys had an instant rapport and it shows, as Daenerys decides to have Tyrion advicing her. It's a sweet moment in which we are reminded that things are going to move forward, Daenerys is not going to stay in Mereen forever, the show will keep going on, and we have an awesome duo joining forces. What could be better than that?

HANNIBAL, "Antipasto", June 4, 2015, Actors: Tom Wisdom, Mads Mikkelsen, Gillian Anderson, The Scenes: Anthony Dimmond comes to dinner & Hannibal kills Dimmond and confronts Bedelia
Tonya Papanikolas:
Anthony Dimmond comes to dinner at Hannibal and Bedelia's house. There was so much tension throughout this scene, I loved it! Bedelia was very afraid of what was going to happen, making it obvious how much of a hold Hannibal has on her. And Hannibal seemed to be amused by the whole situation. Like Bedelia, we don't know what Hannibal is going to do. On top of that we had Bedelia learning (if she didn't already know) that Hannibal is making her tasty because he plans to eat her. And then we had the funny lines where Anthony takes the "taste" comments a very different way, and they have to let him know it's not that kind of party. That was amusing. There were so many great things about this scene!
Darth Locke: In the process of killing Anthony Dimmond, Hannibal confronts Bedelia on her role, asking if she will be an observer or an active participant.

IZOMBIE, "Dead Rat, Live Rat, Brown Rat, White Rat", June 2, 2015, Actors: Rose McIver, Aly Michalka, The Scene: Peyton finds out Liv is a zombie
Sandi:
Keeping secrets from her friends hasn't worked out well for Liv at all these last couple of episodes, but it has set the show up for one hell of a finale next week, which is what matters I guess. The fight here was terrific, I originally thought that Peyton was conveniently knocked out so that she would miss Liv's full on zombie mode. So having her witness the end of struggle, and Liv attempting to come clean about her (un)life was a pleasant surprise. I wonder if they will be reconciled this season, or if it will be carried over for next year. Also picked by A Dahne

ORPHAN BLACK, "Ruthless in Purpose, and Insidious in Method", June 6, 2015, Actors: Tatiana Maslany, Kristian Bruun and more, The Scenes: Helena and Gracie meet each other again & Helena hits on Donnie
Sandi:
It seems so long ago that these two were being held by Henrik and the Prolethean's, even though it's technically only been a couple of months at most. They have a complicated past, but appear to have a close bond and understanding that Gracie will probably never share with any of the other clones. On the surface this reunion was very touching and sweet, and I would like to believe that it was genuine as it seemed. I can't shake this nagging concern that Helena's trusting nature towards her new friend could mean her guard is down when it comes to keeping her secret babies safe however. I hope that I am proved wrong here, but I still don't count Gracie as part of the Clone Club just yet.
Tonya Papanikolas: This was a funny scene. Tatiana Maslany was great as Helena. Just the way she looked at Donnie made me laugh, and the way she said her lines, hitting on Donnie, was hilarious. He didn't quite know what to think. It was great. He was flattered and liked it and returned the humor yet thought she was weird, too. And the way she laughed as he walked out of the room was pure Helena!
Nirat Anop: I couldn't stop laughing at how Donnie responded "so maybe we need two baby ox." and Helena's laugh, and how she kept laughing after he left the room was wonderful.
Darth Locke: Helena exults on Donnie's attractiveness, while he is trying to teach her to how make soap.

SENSE8, "Limbic Resonance", June 5, 2015, Actors: Tuppence Middleton and more, The Scene: The bloodbath
Owen Bush:
Riley and the bloodbath that encounters at the end of an early episode, this direction was so intense, moving, and disturbingly truthful. The emotion was there and the Wachowskis are flexing their hands a little, getting a grip around the audience ready to begin to answer some of the dangling questions this show holds. Sense8 is very unique, and is refreshing to see. Although it has flaws, these scenes, like this one, are staggeringly emotional and raw - and I can't wait to see more.

THE MESSENGERS, "A House Divided", June 5, 2015, Actors: Lauren Bowles and more
The Scene: The horsemen try to cut Satan out of the Apocalypse
A Dahne:
I've had some bad bosses, but none of them were literally Satan. To band to together for a hostile takeover from Lucifer takes a lot of nerve. Yikes! Lucifer's reaction was quite spectacular too.

THE WHISPERS, "X Marks the Spot", June 1, 2015, Actor: Kyle Harrison Breitkopf, The Scene: Claire Bennigan's deaf son talks to Drill
Tonya Papanikolas:
Claire Bennigan's deaf son is suddenly speaking - to Drill! I thought this was a great scene in the first episode. It caught me off guard. And it also let you know how much power this "thing" has, whatever it is. It can grant a deaf child back his speech, asking something dangerous in return. And the "thing" has now infiltrated the house of the FBI agent who is investigating it. It really set up the danger and intrigue for the following episode. Great surprise!

WAYWARD PINES, "One of Our Senior Realtors Has Chosen to Retire", June 4, 2015, Actors: Matt Dillon and more, The Scene: The ending
Nirat Anop:
Ethan reveals that he thinks Nurse Pam is better suited for the role of sheriff and gets ready to leave Wayward Pines. One of the best lines Nurse Pam delivers is, "You might have fooled everyone else but I’m a registered Nurse". Melissa Leo steals every scene she's in and this is one of the many. I do worry a bit what might happen in Ethan's leave under the rule of Nurse Pam: Mayor. Following this Ethan climbs the mountainside to leave Wayward Pines for help and we are teased with the face of an unusual creature (something slightly reminiscent of a Sleepy Hollow creature), I have no idea what it wants or what it is but I cannot wait for next weeks episode.

YOUNGER, "Hot Mitzvah", June 2, 2015, Actors: Sutton Foster, Nico Tortorella
The Scene: Liza tells Josh the truth about her age and he bails
A Dahne:
I didn't expect Younger to go there this season so it was a real shock that they did. It was also a good thing for the story. For someone who preached honesty to Kelsey, Liza has been anything but honest. Here's hoping the fall out isn't too traumatic though.

  1. Game of Thrones - Hardhome battle, the dead are rising and Westeros should be scared.

iZombie - Peyton finds out the truth, very well done and after weeks of the audience expecting and wanting Major to find out it was a good curveball to have Peyton who hasn't been involved in the zombie side at all to find out.

Orphan Black - Krystal and Felix's conversation. We got to find out so much from the newest clone in such a short space of time and what is also heartbreaking is that whilst Sarah insisted Krystal not be brought into the mess it turns out by the end of the episode she has been anyway and in such a horrible way.

  2. Cheers for posting!

    Honourable mentions:

Game of Thrones: Reek reveals to Sansa that he didn't kill her brothers after all

Orphan Black: Felix & Krystal meeting was a gorgeous scene! Felix really does understand each and everyone of his sisters so well, while Tatiana's ability to play yet another completely different persona is just brilliant.

  4. Sense8 stole all the awards this week, and it deserved them. I listed all my favourite scenes over in the discussion thread, there were a lot! Amazing show.

I also liked that scene in Penny Dreadful where Angelique dresses as a man, it was the conversation between Dorian and Angelique in that scene that I loved.

Penny Dreadful: anything about Dorian and Angelique (him kissing her hand and trying to fight that asshole; "I care for who you are. Not for what you wear" and that marvelous sex scene). Just anything :-)
