Scene Of The Week - June 21, 2015 - POLL

21 Jun 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

GAME OF THRONES, "Mother's Mercy", June 14, 2015, Actors: Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Alfie Allen and more, The Scenes: Jon Snow's death & Cersei's walk of atonement & Sansa and Theon escape
Justyna K:
First of all, seeing Jon getting stabbed, repeatedly, by his so-called black brothers was quite a horrifying view, so I can't honestly say that I've actually watched the entire scene, more like I spent most of it looking away. Still, it's probably one of the moments with the biggest impact on the series so far and in the end, it was impossible not to mention it in the article. Jon Snow's dead. I don't think we can deny this fact, as much as anyone would like to, though, like most, I'm hoping this doesn't mean we have to say goodbye to this character. But for now... We just lost the one good and honorable man, who truly understood the danger that's coming to Westeros and knew how to fight it. Over the years, Night's Watch had its moments but after this betrayal, I can't say I'm surprised seeing people rooting for White Walkers. It's heartbreaking, shocking and so incredibly sad. All the cruelty and death seemed to only increase this season. I wonder what's next. Right now, kudos to Kit Harington for his great work on the show! Hope to see more of it! There are just so many theories written after this finale, the potential of Jon being released from his vows is far too interesting to let him go, especially like that. It was a good, intense finale, with many abrupt endings that can change everything for the characters involved (Sansa!) and I can't wait to see what's next.
Nirat Anop: Jon Snow gets stabbed by the Night's Watch. There are so many words to express how shocking or saddening this season finale cliffhanger is. All I know now is that "I know nothing" in regards to what's next for Jon Snow (besides theories). On a side note, now that Gilly, Sam and Baby Sam are out of Castle Black, I no longer worry about the White Walkers attacking Castle Black now. "Valar Morghulis" Men of the Watch.
Bradley Adams: This was one of the most powerful scenes Game of Thrones has ever done. Cersei has never been anything less than powerful, controlling and verging on evil. That all changed here. Stripped naked in front of what seemed like the entire population of all the Seven Kingdoms, Cersei had no power and was left to walk barefoot as citizens called her a "whore" and even presented themselves to her. After nearly six minutes of on-screen walking, Cersei returned to the Red Keep, in tears with feet bloody. Lena Headey did an amazing job of portraying Cersei's anguish throughout the entire scene - from the beginning as she tried to stay strong to the very end of her walk. Despite all that she had done, it was hard not to feel for her in that moment. However, Cersei's look as The Mountain picked her up brilliantly turned this scene on its head. That look signified her desire for revenge, which she will inevitably get, even though it was her sins that put her in this position in the first place. The whole ordeal didn't change Cersei one bit, and she learned nothing from it, but I love it.
Sandi: There were plenty of bigger moments in the finale, but I have chosen this one for various reasons. Firstly, it's an arc that has been building for some time, in a realistic manner. It could have been ruined by rushing either of the characters into making this bold move earlier which would have felt forced and unnatural considering the power that Ramsay has over them. Secondly, I am really looking forward to seeing what happens next for the two characters. I much prefer the fact that they are together in the show opposed where they are in the books at present, and would like to see how they overcome the difficulties ahead. The small man overcoming great obstacles and his difficult past is one of my favourite plot-lines in any show (hello Banshee!), so I'm hoping that GoT delivers here. Lastly, I feel that Alfie Allen is one of the most underrated actors on the show, he constantly surprises me with all he has accomplished in his change from Theon to Reek, and now with his confidence starting to come back bit by bit through Sansa's help over the last few episodes. I have enjoyed his performance a great deal this season, even though at times he is given very little to say.

HALT AND CATCH FIRE, "The Way In", June 14, 2015, Actors: Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy, The Scene: Joe tells Gordon he wouldn't trade the Cardiff money for the life he has now
Tonya Papanikolas:
This was a really touching and unexpected scene. Joe always puts on a show. He likes everyone to think he's important. But he gets very real here with Gordon, of all people. And you can see how much his priorities have changed. He always wanted the money, the success, the fame, the ideas. He was always trying to prove himself. And then suddenly we realize this person who was always trying to climb to the top is somehow happy at the bottom - all because he found a good woman and loves his life with her. This showed how much of a changed man he is. He doesn't have much in terms of material items, but he's happy. I love that he admitted this to Gordon. He finally stopped putting on an act and let down his guard with someone he trusted more than he let on. I thought this was a great moment between the two characters.

HANNIBAL, "Secondo", June 18, 2015, Actors: Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Gillian Anderson and more, The Scenes: Dr Lecter and Bedelia talk about Hannibal's sister & Will strings up the dead prisoner as a firefly
Diana Mack:
Dr Lecter and Bedelia talk about Hannibal's sister Misha and she asks why he had to eat her. She comes to the conclusion that the only way Hannibal can forgive Will Graham is eating him, like he did with his little sister back in the past. The conversation here was a bit hard to understand. I got that Hannibal feels the same about Will like he felt about Misha. He trusted them but they in some way cheated on him. Misha made him become what he is now - a criminal, a cannibal and a murderer of course - while Will betrayed his friendship back in season 2 finale. Hannibal can only be in peace with himself by eating them and so he can also forgive them.
Tonya Papanikolas: Will strings up the dead prisoner as a firefly. Wow. I was shocked by this moment where Will presented this dead man as a work of art, just like Hannibal. Chiyoh was right when she told Will he was doing what Hannibal did. I didn't think Will would actually go this far. But he did. Unless his intent had a different meaning, it seems Will is becoming more and more like Hannibal. His dark side seems to be taking over. Is he going to let it? Only time will tell.

KILLJOYS, "Bangarang", June 19, 2015, Actors: Hannah John-Kamen and more
The Scene: Dutch walks down a hallway and takes down the guards
Nirat Anop:
Dutch looking incredibly beautiful walks down a hallway. She takes off her necklace and throws it across and doing so, it splits into smaller balls that turn into robot spider bombs which take out some of the guards. I loved this scene, it was very badass, the music accompanying the scene was lots of fun and we got to see how much of a excellent fighter Dutch is.

ORPHAN BLACK, "History Yet to Be Written", June 20, 2015, Actors: Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris and more, The Scenes: Sarah and Kira's reunion & Clone Club Dinner Scene
Sandi:
Sarah & Kira's reunion. A completely sappy moment to choose in a finale packed with multiple scenes that I could have mentioned, but this was just too sweet to ignore. Her daughter is part of what drives Sarah onward in her quest to get to the bottom of the mystery of the clones, and her departure from a big chunk of this season has been felt, though understandable. I hope that she is back next season to play a bigger part in the story as I can't help thinking that she will be pivotal to the larger picture.
Nirat Anop: I never knew how much I needed this scene until I saw it. This finale was filled with such incredible moving scenes its hard to choose just one. I found that the theme of family was truly important this season and extremely evident in this finale. The ways in which they shared their toasts to Beth and the "ethnic cake" was a magical moment. However dinner comes to heartbreaking end as Delphine kisses Cosima goodbye and soon after the audience is shown Delphine being shot. All I can say is writers "be good to her" and don't let her die, please.
Tonya Papanikolas: Seeing this group all together was so much fun! I love that they all were there to celebrate Alison's campaign (and win!) and also celebrate how far they've come together. They couldn't have gotten to where they are now without everyone at that table. Of course, it was also fun seeing all the clones together again. That never gets old. On top of that, the scene was the perfect mix of funny and sweet. It had some hilarious moments, like Donnie calling Helena "monster" and Alison referring to Helena's cake as the "ethnic cake." Then there were the touching moments - the toast to Beth and Alison's toast. I love that Alison used the word "sistras" when talking about her sisters. She mentioned that they face everything together as a family, and that's what they've become. They're a makeshift family, a dynamic that was very noticeable in this scene. All of this made it so fun to watch!

Still not much to see on TV, so here's some of my other memorable scenes from Game Of Thrones:

    Sansa and Theon escape!
    Cersei's long walk
    Jaime and Myrcella talk
Daario, Jorah, Tyrion, and Grey Worm discuss what's next

    Arya's revenge

  2. Other:
Dark Matter - Fight scene at the power plant
Dark Matter - Five and the Android talk about how Five feels now knowing what the rest of the crew have done
Penny Dreadful - Ethan confronts Vanessa after she kills Sir Geoffrey

  3. Dark Matter: One, Three and Four prepare to go all "Blaze of Glory" and Six stops them before they accidentally shoot him, that scene was so unexpectedly funny after such an action packed scene. Also Five and Android's talk, it's great seeing character development from character who don't have their memories. Stitchers: Kirsten and Cameron talk about love, Beauty and the Beast: Catherine and Vincent try to enjoy the perks, The Messengers: Raul tells Erin he doesn't want to lie to her again because he doesn't want to lose her and they kiss.

  5. Orphan Black: Sarah and Kira reunite and Other: Orphan Black, Helena and Jesse "Towing" reunite! I'm not usually a Helena fan, but I loved the shout outs to first season!

  6. Orphan Black - Clone club dinner party. Once again I forget its one actress playing all these characters. Seriously so many shows struggle with giving us diverse and interesting female characters and Orphan Black just does it so flawlessly.

Humans - There is such a lovely moment between George (William Hurt) and his synth Odi (Will Tudor). You can really see the bond between humans and their AI servants and how for some it can go beyond that.

Veep - Selina breaks down and Amy comforts her. It was good to see Amy back in the Meyer camp but also hilarious when no one knew what to do with a crying President.

  11. Cheers for posting.

I've now finally watched Humans, so would have added Mattie trying to shoot Anita. I have a feeling that this will be an interesting relationship between the two, and perhaps Anita will be the one to get through to the teenager where as her parents will fail. I also adored George and Odi's relationship, they had some of the sweetest scenes in the episode, including the one where George was about to destroy his synth due to a certain piece of information he holds but Odi suddenly reboots correctly.

  12. Choosing between the beautiful Orphan Black's season finale (Helena's showdown with Rudy and the Clone Club dinneri) and the superb Hannibal's episode (Hannibal admitting out loud what he feels about Will is both incredible, courageous and perfectly believable).

Penny Dreadful: Vanessa giving into her hate and crossing the line over into full-blown "damnation" territory when she used the book to dispatch vengeance upon the loathsome Sir Geoffrey. I mean, yay for that prick... still I fear that the worst is coming for her XD

  16. I would do an entire list just with Game of Thrones, seriously. Those scenes in particular, yes. And especially Cersei's walk of shame, that was mesmerizing, I was seriously disturbed with the scene, and that is something. I think Lena should win an Emmy this year for it.

  17. Orphan Black : Rudy's death and Kendall admission about leading Sarah to Siobhan. And Sarah's reunion with her monkey.

  18. The scene in Dark Matter when Five and The Android were talking. I loved how the Android sat down beside Five in the exact same position. I think those 2 are going to get along with each other the most.

  19. Orphan Black: Clone club dinner scene
    and
Other - VEEP: Selina learns she might lose the election to her own VP and falls into Amy's arms crying.
