    FORGET THE PAST, REWRITE HISTORY

    “OUTLANDER” RETURNS SATURDAY, APRIL 9TH

Beverly Hills, Calif. – February 11, 2016 – Starz, in association with Sony Pictures Television, has announced the return of its hit original series “Outlander” on Saturday, April 9th at 9PMET/PT. The eagerly awaited second installment will be 13 – episodes and is based upon the second of eight books in Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling Outlander series, entitled Dragonfly in Amber. The series is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”).

Starz also released a first look at their teaser art featuring “Outlander” couple Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) on the steps of Versailles. Instead of swords and guns, they’re armed with political savvy and the finest 1700s Parisian fashion as they embark on their new mission - infiltrating the French aristocracy and rewriting history. The new image gives viewers a taste of what’s to come in this exciting and dangerous next chapter – old world lavishness mixed with a sense of new world urgency.

The teaser art was shot on location in Scotland by photographer Jason Bell.

Book Two of “Outlander” begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of his cousin Jared, a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship. However, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.

Diana Gabaldon’s eight-book series has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide and all eight books in the series have graced the New York Times best-sellers list.

Ronald D. Moore, Jim Kohlberg, Andy Harries, Maril Davis, Ira Steven Behr, Toni Graphia and Anne Kenney serve as executive producers of “Outlander,” which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Nell Hudson was spotted at Dean Castle earlier this week where Outlander is currently filming its second season. Now, it may not seem surprising, but to those who have read the books - specifically book 2 - it will be. Hudsons character Laoghaire MacKenzie isn't actually featured in the second book, which is what season 2 is based upon. She is briefly mentioned but that's about it, so how big her role will be is open to speculation.

Additionally, Simon Meacock who plays Hugh Munro is set to reprise his role. He was spotted on the set this week after rumors circulated earlier this year that Munro's part would be cut. With images surfaced of him on set in costume it looks like his key part in DIA will happen after all.

  • 11th November 2015 - Oscar Kennedy Cast as William Grey?

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

According to IMDB, 16 year old Oscar Kennedy has been cast as William Grey (Young Lord John Grey). Now, this is far from official but casting such a young actor would make sense seeing as we meet him as a 16 year old in Dragon Fly in Amber.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Ron D.Moore spoke with Digital Spy about Lord John Grey and the possibility of a spin-off based on the separate books.

"It's in the back of our minds as a potential thing," he said. "But right now our minds are pretty firmly set on just delivering the second season. We'll see what happens down the line on Lord Grey."

Although, a spin-off is unlikely to happen any time soon, Moore did confirm to Digital Spy that Lord John will appear in the second season.

"Moore confirmed that the character will definitely appear in season two."

Additionally, Moore also confirmed on Twitter during a Q&A that Roger is being cast and will appear at some point during the second season. Don't expect to see him at the start of the season though as the first 5 episodes are completed fully.

Today, filming has taken to Prague to shoot some important scenes for the second season. Fans were welcomed by the cast and crew, and many managed to snap a few pictures of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe on set. They will be filming there for around a week, I'm told.

  • 4th September 2015 - Filming Updates & Audition Videos

Thanks to everyone who sent these in.

As you know, Starz have formally issued a casting call for book favorite Brianna. Auditions are well underway and many actresses have put together audition tapes and are sending them in for consideration. Obviously, I can't post them audition videos here, but you can find around 10 of them here.

Additionally, a few new BTS photos have surfaced. Stanley Weber, Dominique Pinon and Lionel Lingelser were all in Glasgow filming various scenes for season 2 yesterday and a photo was taken of them. Now, Stanley Weber has reportedly completed filming today,4th September.

Matt B. Roberts was also kind enough to share of picture of Bouton, which can be found below.

  • 25th August 2015 - Casting Call for Brianna

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Outlander has issued a casting call for Brianna that surfaced online earlier. It was obtained from a casting website.

The character description for Brianna reads: “20 something American born and rasied who’s strong-minded, intelligent beyond her years with an effortless charm and sparkling sense of humor (traits inherited from both her mother and father. She also has a scholastic mindset, with a healthy dose of American strength, having been born and bred in Boston under the watchful eye of professor and historian Frank Randall. The ease of natural beauty, Brianna has the ability to turn heads wherever she goes. However, underneath her self-possession, Brianna is still young, with the inexperience and vulnerability that goes with that.”

The casting call also mentioned that the actress must be at least 5’8 - Brianna is around 6ft in the books - and that she must have some physical resemblance to Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan - she is playing their daughter after all. Red hair is not essential for the role, they will dye it if necessary. The call also claims that Brianna will be a series regular.

Additionally, there's also a storyline listed for Brianna - which books readers will find surprising. It reads: “Brianna has secretly followed her mother back in time to find the father she never met and the family she never knew.”

Ron Moore mentioned previously that the show will make changes from the books, but this seems like an awfully big one. The storyline does happen in the books - so it's not something written from scratch - but it doesn't happen until the fourth book.

There's still no word on Roger, but I've reached out to Starz to see if I can obtain anything about his casting and will update if I hear anything.

You can find the casting call here

  • 24th August 2015 - Gaia Weiss Cast, New BTS Photo of Sam Heughan & More
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

It appears that Vikings actress Gaia Weiss has joined the cast for its upcoming second season. Although, this is not confirmed by Starz.

Now, her role isn't specified but the actress herself has mentioned that she isn't playing the role of Vicomtesse de Rambeau. Now, that doesn't give away details on who she might be playing - there's countless roles yet to be cast - but it does confirm her involvement in the new season. Recently cast Stanley Weber also mentioned that he wrapped filming with her during one of his opening filming weeks - with Cait and Sam as well, I should add.

She also posted two photos of her in costume, that she later deleted. This might not be connected to Outlander, but it seems likely. Those can be found here. We can expect to see her in one of the opening episodes of next season if she has, in fact, joined the cast. Which at this point seems very likely.

I've reached out to the actress for a comment about the role, and will update if/when I hear anything.

Additionally, Rosie Day will appear as Mary Hawkins as early as the second or third episode. Multiple sources are also reporting that the actress - who was cast as Mary Hawkins in June - will be in around 4 episodes of the new season.

Diana Gabaldon has just recently finished working on her episode of Outlander. She mentioned on Twitter here that she is proofing it, and that her episode will be episode 11 of the second season.

Matthew B.Roberts also gave us a little update - when asked - on the casting of book favorites Roger and Brianna saying "Starz will announce if/when there's news." This indicates to me that the roles are still yet to be cast. With 5 episodes filmed completely, it appears that Roger and Brianna will be appearing around the mid-point of the new season or even later. Make no mistake though, they will be in the new season.

Finally, we have yet another behind the scenes photo of Sam Heughan. This time the photo was taken by a journalist who attended a special promotion event in Scotland for the show.

  • 19th August 2015 - Set Photos and Report of Sam Heughan & Tobias Menzies
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Filming is well underway on the much anticipated season 2. When asked during a Q&A on Twitter about how many episodes had been filmed so far, Matthew B. Roberts replied: "five so far. All episodes have studio and location sets. INT and EXT."

I should add that Matthew B.Roberts is writing episodes 2.06 & 2.09 and also co-writing the season finale.

The cast and crew of Outlander have now taken to Pollock County Park to film the latest scenes for the series. Both Tobias Menzies and Sam Heughan were spotted on set filming/practicing for a duel.

The last time we saw Black Jack was when he was trampled on and left for dead during Jamie's rescue in the finale, and to those who aren't familiar with the books this might come as a surprise to see him looking so...alive.

  • 10th August 2015 - Lotte Verbeek to Return as Geillis Duncan
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

The last time we saw Geillis she was being carried off to be burnt at the stake after sacrificing herself for Claire. Those who have read the books know what is coming, but those who haven't will find this news very surprising. In an interview with Zap2it, Ronald D. Moore confirms her return.

"He will say viewers can expect to see Lotte Verbeek return as Geillis Duncan but is tight-lipped on anything more than that. Also returning is Tobias Menzies as Claire’s present day husband Frank — but will he also reprise his role as the evil Black Jack, who was trampled by bulls when viewers last saw him?"

“You could theoretically broadcast it in two pieces because they are almost standalone sections, but right now the intention is probably to show them straight through.”

There are plenty of other twists and turns in Season 2, and Moore is keeping them close to his chest. Two of those are new characters Brianna and Roger, who haven’t been cast yet. Moore won’t tease when fans can expect to meet them, saying, “I don’t think I’m ready to give that away yet.”

  • 28th July 2015 - Lionel Lingelser to Recur as King Louis XV
French actor Lionel Lingelser has been cast as King Louis XV in the Starz drama that’ll return for a second round of episodes in 2016, EW has exclusively learned. As the King of France, Louis XV has a taste for the ladies and is used to getting whatever he wants — until he grows tired of people who no longer appeal to him.

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) cross paths with the king after they flee to France to avoid Black Jack Randall. Their plan is to ingratiate themselves in the French court so they can thwart the financing for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite rebellion and — with any luck — stop the battle of Culloden that will upend the Highland uprising.

A graduate of the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris, Lingelser stars in Jean Emmanuel Godart’s forthcoming feature Big House with Gérard Depardieu. He is set to recur in the new season that will is expected to return in the spring.

  • 4th July 2015 - First Look Photos + Ronald D. Moore Interview

EW: Where do we pick up with Claire and Jamie in season 2? Are they fresh off the boat from Scotland?
RDM: Well, how the opening episode literally opens I won’t get into, obviously, because that’s just how we tell the story, but the story of Jamie and Claire in the 18th century pretty much starts with their arrival in France. The big story point picks up from where we left season 1, which is Claire and Jamie deciding to attempt to change history by stopping the Jacobite rebellion and changing history so as to prevent the slaughter on Culloden Moor and the destruction of the Highland culture after it. That’s the major plot going into the season.

EW: And how much of Jamie’s assault at the hands of Black Jack in the season 1 finale will hang over into the upcoming season?
RDM: It definitely colors his character throughout. It’s not at the forefront of the story, but it’s a pretty big character story for him, so the after-effects of that and the reverberations through their relationship does carry forward well into the season.

EW: Are there any scenes you’re particularly excited for fans to see?
RDM: There are several particular scenes, obviously from the book, that fans are probably going to look forward to. Overall, I’m just excited to see the streets of Paris and Versailles There’s an interesting “wow factor” I’m looking forward to see us realizing and putting them in a very different urban environment than last season.

  • 30th June 2015 - Frances De La Tour Cast as Mother Hildegard
Thanks to Rene for the heads up.

Outlander has found its Mother Hildegard. Vicious and Harry Potter star Frances de la Tour has been cast as the commanding Mother Superior in the upcoming 13 episode second season of Starz’s hit period drama Outlander.

A key figure in the second book Dragonfly In Amber (which season two is based on), Mother Hildegard is the intelligent and commanding Mother Superior who runs L’Hopital Des Anges in Paris. A tall, gaunt woman with a deep and powerful voice, Hildegard comes from an aristocratic, well-connected family.

  • 24th June 2015 - Claire Sermonne Cast as Louise de Rohan

Outlander’s ensemble for Season 2 continues to grow. Claire Sermonne, an actress of French and Russian ancestry, has been cast as Louise de Rohan. The historical figure, who also appears in Diana Gabaldon’s Dragonfly in Amber, is a frivolous and animated member of the French Court. Claire befriends Louise during her tenure in Paris, and although the two women come from completely different worlds, they strike up a genuine friendship.

  • 20th June 2015 - Sam Heughan talks Season 2

Q: Have you filmed any amazing scenes yet or are there any that you’re looking forward to filming?
SH: We have. We were shooting up on the East Coast of Scotland, which doubled for the French sea court, and it’s pretty much the opening of the show in Season 2. There’s some incredible location work, we had lots of boats there and the French harbor… We’ve got some terrific French cast, lots of French actors, some quite famous, are in the show. It just feels very different. It feels like an epic sort of journey that we’re on,on the show. It’s such n interesting time period too. The end of 1744, 1745, so it’s a really interesting time, we’re so close to revolution. Yeah, it’s been great.

Q: So how’s filming been going? What episode are you on?
SH:We’re almost finished — we’ve been filming three episodes at the same time, the first three, so that’s had its own difficulties, but it’s been great. It’s a very different world. We’re in the French court, about as far as you can get from the highlands of Scotland. There’s some crazy new characters. It looks magnificent, the show looks incredible, and just trying to find where Jamie and Claire fit into that world, is exactly the kind of journey they’re having. They’ve escaped Scotland and everything that happened there, but the reason that they’re there in France is to stop Cullodon, which is this big battle which ends up with the extermination of the highland culture, so they’re there for a reason. Yeah, it just gets very complicated.

  • 17th June 2015 - Laurence Dobiesz Cast as Alex Randall

Actor will play brother of Tobias Menzies’ character on series starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe

Laurence Dobiesz has joined the cast of Starz’s “Outlander” in the role of Alex Randall, TheWrap has learned.

Dobiesz’s character is the younger brother of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), the main antagonist of our heroes Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).

Despite the shared DNA and physical resemblance, Alex Randall possesses nothing of his older brother Black Jack’s ruthless brutality.

A curate and secretary for the Duke of Sandringham, Alex is described as gentle, loving, and kind.

  • 15th June 2015 - Tobias Menzies Interview
Q: Why did you audition for the roles of Frank and Black Jack? Which aspects of these characters where most appealing to you or what do you admire about them?

A:Yes, I mean the first thing that interested me was the fact that I was being asked to play two different characters which is quite an unusual proposition on a tv show. They both seemed so well written and I liked the difference of the two characters. They seemed strong and interesting and so complicated and also I've worked with Ron Moore, I've seen "Battlestar Galactica" and been an admirer of that show. These are the ingredients that came together.

Q: In the books the story is mainly told through Claire; the first book shows only her point of view. The tv show takes another approach, especially regarding your character Frank who is more or less absent in the books after Claire travels through the stones but he is very present in the show. How did you develop the character in contrast to the very explicitly described Black Jack?

A: I think one of the quite successful things of the first half of the show is drawing Frank out and drawing him in more and more detail then maybe in the book. We added some material and then we could see what would be happening to him when we go back to him. I think what's good about that is the show makes it much more complicated and an emotionally complicated decision when Claire decides to stay with Jamie. You know the relationship behind the real competition. I think the writers and myself and Caitriona where working, especially at the beginning of the show, to establish an interesting and complicated and sort of no less attractive relationship between those two so there was something to lose. And I mean they are very different propositions but also the show plays with moments where they are similar as well as when they are different and that is kind of the enjoyableness of playing with the fact that the same actor is playing the two different parts. I think that is exciting to see.

  • 12th June 2015 - Marc Duret Cast as Monsieur Joseph Duverney
Thanks to Katrina for the heads up.

The Starz series has enlisted another French actor, Marc Duret, to fill an important role in the Frasers’ new Parisian setting. Duret will portray Monsieur Joseph Duverney, the well-dressed, middle-aged Minister of Finance to Louis XV. Duverney and Jamie become competitors at chess.

DOMINIQUE PINON JOINS “OUTLANDER” CAST FOR SEASON TWO

Starz, in association with Sony Pictures Television, has announced today that they have cast Dominique Piñon as Master Raymond in “Outlander.” The second season is currently in production in Scotland and will debut on Starz in 2016. The global hit series has been adapted for the screen by Ronald D. Moore from the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon. The series has sold over 26 million copies, with all eight novels appearing on the New York Times best-sellers list.

“Outlander” is the story of a married combat nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) from 1945 who gets transported back into the year 1743, and is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a young Scottish warrior. Season two of “Outlander” begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of his cousin Jared (Robert Cavanah), a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship. However, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising, and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.

A small kindly apothecary, Master Raymond is a mysterious healer with a great deal of knowledge regarding secret matters, both political and occult. Though generally viewed with suspicion by his contemporaries, Master Raymond forms a special bond with Claire.

Born in France, Piñon is renowned for his work with French auteurs and frequent collaborators Marc Caro and Jean Pierre Jeunet. With Caro and Jeunet, Piñon made the post-apocalyptic dark comedy Delicatessen (1991), to be followed by The City of Lost Children (1995). He then made Alien: Resurrection (1997), Amelie (2001), A Very Long Engagement (2004), Micmacs (2009), and The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet (2013) with Jeunet. Early on in his career, Piñon appeared in Jean-Jacques Beineix’s Diva (1981) and Daniel Vigne’s The Return of Martin Guerre (1982), for which he received a Cesar nomination for most promising actor, and later starred in Claude Lelouch’s acclaimed Roman de Gare (2007). Piñon’s recent feature work includes prominent roles in Israel Horowitz’s English-language My Old Lady, Jean-Michel Ribes’ Breves de Comptoir, Guillaume Lubrano’s Reality Check and R Prygunov’s Downshifter. Piñon is also a prolific presence in the theatre, wining the Moliere for best actor in 2004. His recent stage work includes roles in Christophe Lidon’s “La Tempte” and Laurent Frechuret’s adaptation of “Richard III.”

The critically acclaimed 16-episode first season of “Outlander” finished its run in May and has been lauded as “a nearly perfect season” (Wall Street Journal) and “the most fearless show on TV” (Zap2It), with critics and fans alike calling the series Emmy-worthy, noting “the acting and writing were all around stunning” (E!).

“Outlander” is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Jim Kohlberg and Andy Harries serve as executive producers. Additionally, Ira Steven Behr, Anne Kenney and Toni Graphia serve as writer/executive producers and Matthew B. Roberts serves as writer/co-executive producer.

  • 7th June 2015 - Audrey Brisson Cast as Sister Angelique
EXCLUSIVE: Established stage actress Audrey Brisson has joined the cast of Starz’s hit period drama Outlander for its upcoming second season, TVWise has learned. The 13 episode second season is now in production in Scotland for a 2016 premiere on Starz.

Brisson will play Sister Angelique, a nun at L’Hopital Des Anges in Paris. As fans of the book series will know, L’Hopital Des Anges is a key location, with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) volunteering – as well as ultimately being treated – at the hospital in the second book. For now this is a guest starring role, but I’m told it has the potential to become a recurring one.

Outlander’s second season, which will run “at least” 13 episodes, is based on Dragonfly In Amber, the second book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novel series, and follows Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in Paris, France, as they attempt to prevent the Jacobite uprisings, which Claire knows will end in disaster

  • 2nd June 2015 - Robert Cavanah and Stanley Weber Join Cast
Robert Cavanah has been cast as Jared, Jamie's Scottish cousin who lives in Paris, France.

Jared is a successful wine merchant (and strong Jacobite). Jamie and Claire will live in his mansion in Paris in Season 2. They will also manage his business while he travels to the West Indies.

E! News has learned that Stanley Weber has been cast in an integral role of Le Comte St. Germain, a wine merchant and member of the French Court, who has a reputation for ruthlessness, as well as for dabbling in the occult. Book fans know that although he doesn't come close to the treachery of Black Jack Randall, he's also a bit of a villain. Weber will appear in most of the episodes that take place in Paris.
