Static Shock - Rumor - Jaden Smith Cast In Lead Role?

25 May 2015

During a recent interview, actor Tyler James Williams (The Walking Dead, Everybody Hates Chris) pointed out that "there aren't a lot of young, black superheroes." Two people in the background can be heard shouting to him "Static Shock" and "Spider-Man." Those suggestions elicit an interesting response from Williams.

"I don't know... What you're taking about," Williams says to Flicks And The City with a knowing smile. "But yeah no, it's great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden."

The "Jaden" he refers to, is Will Smith's After Earth co-star and real-life son Jaden. Back in October, Smith was rumored for Static Shock, which Warner Bros. has been developing as a live-action digital series with Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin.

  3. NO.

Normally I'm all, "give the actor a chance, they might surprise you," and this isn't confirmed, but I freaking love Static Shock. He was one of the superheroes of my childhood. No, Jaden Smith, just ... no.

Hopefully this is very, very wrong.

    What next Mac?
Robert Pattinson as Terry McGinnis/Batman Beyond?
Julie Plec to executive produce Aquaman?

...You know what, I shouldn't be giving WB ideas...

It could be worse .... Willow Smith could be cast as Virgil Ovid Hawkins sister Sharon.

I didn't know Miles Morales was Dominican and I looked it up on Google and there's just speculation, so maybe when he tried for the part they told him Miles is Dominican? Anyways, I thought they were for sure going Peter, but if they go Miles I hope he's Dominican cause I am! lol.

  10. So it's being retitled Static Plank then?

  11. So at this point, whom of the Will Smith family isn't playing a lame character from the DC Comics Universe?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Looks like this show won't exist in my mind.

  13. Breaking news: Will Smith to single handedly destroy DC Entertainment. Him being cast as Deadshot has ruined the chances of Arrow using the character in the future and nepotism has ruined Static Shock.

    Trey Smith and Willow Smith.

  15. Will oldest son from first marriage. He doesn't act from what I've seen.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just looked him up. He was in one of his father's music videos, and did a few sitcom appearances in the early 90s. Can't say I've seen any of his work. And for that, I already like him more than the rest of Will's family.

  17. God no!!! Why. Did you not see that awful film he did with his dad set in space. He was the worst actor ever. I don't understand how your dad can be Will Smith and you suck at acting but Jaden has achieved it somehow. Truly a feat.

  18. Hey now they might still have roles for Jada, Trey and Willow to. We'll just call it The Smith comic book universe and they can make a movie featuring all of them, playing, surprise a family who superheroes. Watching as Jaden tries to emote by making duck face and google eyes at the camera! And Willow shakes her hair back and fourth to show how sassy her character is, yeah girl! LOL Watch as their two talented, cool parents look on from the corner of the screen like "so....that's my kid "acting". Well he means well".

  21. He quit acting years ago. That's not what he wanted to do. His passion lies in Football. Wow, you must be pretty young huh? And that's a serious question, not trying to tease you.

  25. So at first I was like finally at least we have some news on static shock since its been forever it was announced but then I saw that jaden might be cast and all the negative comments. Maybe he might not be so bad??? Havent seen after earth and never will but I'm going to remain optimistic until I see the final results and if its as bad as everyones predicting then that's when I'll pull out my pitchforks with the rest of you lol.

  26. U told me twice! Should've believed it. They will get their comic book franchise.

I don't think they've cast Deadshots children yet (Edward and Zoe)...age their characters up slightly and theirs a role for Trey and Willow. Jada can play Zoe's mother Michelle.

...ugh look at me giving DC ideas XD

"Coming soon to a cinema near you, DC Presents: Deadshot & Static Shock.

When a lone gunman tries to take out Static, he has no other option but to place his life in the hands of the escaped Suicide Squad member Deadshot. However unbeknownst to them...they will discover a conspiracy deeper then any could have imagined!"

    Featuring:
    Will Smith as Deadshot
    Jaden Smith as Static Shock
Trey Smith as Deadshot's son Edward
Willow Smith as Deadshot's daughter Zoe
Jada Pinkett Smith as Zoe's mother Michelle"

    ...........
    @Shannon , @maclives I did the thing again...
    How do I stop >.>

  29. Ur really going all out! Even though I hate the cast good idea. #thumbsUp
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if something like this happens if SS and Will get even remotely good critics and cash in some decent money.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Maybe they can give him acting lessons and charm school as well because he hasn't got the charisma of his father and he is pretty bland.

    ReplyDelete
  31. this is absolutely accurate xD

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well...Pattinson doesen't have family in the biz. But Devon Bostick has o.O

Aquaman would totally be in a triangle then

    ReplyDelete
  33. Don't shoot your brains out! Crack Jadens balls!

    We totally jinxed it

    ReplyDelete
  34. This sounds like something we'll probably get in 2018 :'(

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm going to cut off your fingers that's how you stop!

  37. There is only ONE musical and it belongs to her.

Well, I haven't seen After Earth yet, not my cup of tea.
But Jaden was great in Karate Kid and The Pursuit of Happyness. Did he become THAT bad in such short notice of are you guys just bullying him because of his father?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ah Will Smith doing his thing for his son again. This piece of crap better not show up in shows like Legends Of Tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hahaha thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  43. IDR it so it doesn't count. = p

    ReplyDelete
  44. I guess I'm OK with this. I've only seen him in the karate kid and from what I've heard he wasn't that good in other films. I'm just glad we're getting a live action static shock series!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Is this kid really that bad? I have only seen him in Karate Kid.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I didn't believe when you said that. So how bad is this kid?

    ReplyDelete
  47. 20. I guess that's still considered pretty young, huh? I just never paid too much attention to celebrities' lives and families. I only know a bit about Jaden and Willow because they're apparently people the media won't shut up about.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Is Jada Pinkett-Smith considered a capable actress? Could've fooled me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Haha, yeah still pretty young. That's funny, you being on a site like this, i would think otherwise. Actually when Will was at his prime in his career, Trey was actually mentioned a lot, so it's still a bit surprising. But oh well, you know of his existence now so. Shrugs. Better late than never i guess.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nah, I just pay attention to the content of the shows I watch. Very rarely do I pay attention to anything but. I usually just find myself shouting "Who?!" whenever I see headlines about celebrities lol.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lmaoooo, you're one of those. I got it. Lol that was funny. Well if you ever need to know "Who" and I'm on the same thread, I'll be more than happy to help. = )

    ReplyDelete
  52. Meh, don't feel too strongly either way.
He's definitelly not as charismatic as his parents but I've seen worse.

I will say Tyler James Williams is wonderful and smart and well spoken... Though I think it's a bit unfortunate he's probably there to talk about TWD yet all they're asking him about things he's not (yet?) involved in. :(
