A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.
ARROW, "Broken Arrow", April 15, 2015, Actors: Colton Haynes, Willa Holland and more, The Scenes: Roy says goodbye to Team Arrow & Ra's Al Ghul kills Thea & Oliver and Roy talk at the precinct
Justyna K: First of all, I sort of expected to say goodbye to Roy, but I'm glad he didn't die and there's always a chance for him to reappear in the future to help the team. It's a shame, though, that he's leaving now when his character finally had an important storyline and the actor got an opportunity to shine in so many scenes of the hour. It was probably one of the best episodes for Roy which only makes this goodbye more significant and emotional. It does seem like Roy has become his own hero and will start over in some other city as he says goodbye to his team. It was a lovely, yet sad moment, as I wish we could explore the friendship between Oliver and Roy more but still, it was a great way to go. I really liked the goodbye talk he had with both Diggle and Felicity. Great character moments for team Arrow, for sure. In the end, Roy Harper saved his hero and good friend, and is strong enough to fight and help people on his own. For now, goodbye Arsenal. Good luck on the next adventure!
Pablozky21: Arrow keeps the momentum from last week's episode with another standout; a shocking end comes to form when Ra's breaks into Thea's house and she has to fend off for herself. She fights well, but she has no chance against him, and in the most surprising turn of events of the episode, she is killed. When I watched it I was left pale white; it is a momment that reminded me Moira's death, though just a tad less shocking. Still, I was incredibly surprised, now we now how Oliver will come to be head of the demon.
Daniel van der Veer: So Roy didn't die but Colton Haynes is leaving as a series regular. His goodbye scene was a good one, and his reasons for taking the fall for Oliver make sense. It's not like I deeply cared for Roy but the goodbyes were emotional.
Bradley Adams: Roy tells Oliver that now he gets to save his life.
BATES MOTEL, "Norma Louise", April 13, 2015, Actor: Freddie Highmore
The Scene: Norman becomes Norma

DAREDEVIL, "Cut Man", April 10, 2015, Actors: Charlie Cox and more, The Scene: Matt saves a little boy
Justyna K: It's impossible to choose just one best scene of a show so great as Daredevil. I could mention so many of the amazingly acted dialogues, shocking turns, deaths, fights etc. but in the end I picked one of my favorites and most memorable moments of the series that takes place almost at the beginning of the story and is not only a perfect example of the show's stunning work on the action/fight scenes but is a great way to introduce the hero, his strength and will to fight. Before the fight starts he's certainly not in a good place, after almost dying during the hour he's desperate to save a little boy before he's lost for good. Matt's just one blind guy against quite a group of the armed and dangerous men. He should be barely standing at that point but he keeps going and in a spectacular shot manages to fight off everyone and save a child. He carries him away to safety and the hero is truly born. And what an impressive one! I had the best time watching this show and it made me even more excited for the new Marvel projects in the future (as if that was possible!). I would also love to see more the Daredevil story, fingers crossed for season two. I didn't even know about this hero before and now he's one of my favorites. Fantastic show! Kudos to the entire cast and crew!
GAME OF THRONES, "The Wars to Come", April 12, 2015, Actors: Kit Harington, Ciarán Hinds, The Scenes: Jon and Mance talk & Mance Rayder's death
Justyna K: I think that, at the moment, the story that takes place at the Wall is the one I find most interesting. The one about the honest, brave and truly scared men there, willing to fight and die for what they believe in. And there's something very special about that, especially on the show like this one. Two scenes of the hour made the biggest impression on me and I'm glad to see them included in the article. As powerful as Mance's death scene was, my choice was the last conversation of Jon Snow and Mance Rayder, when Jon is asking the latter to bend the knee to Stannis. Both sides had understandable arguments and the actors did a fantastic job at portraying the complexity and emotional impact of the decision. Kudos to Ciarán Hinds for his great work on the show! The moment Jon mentions that Mance will be burnt alive, the look on his face says it all. Despite the utter fear, Rayder already made his choice, to keep his freedom and respect of his men till his last breath. Snow's answer to him, his words about the White Walkers coming and there being "no one left to sing" were also wonderfully done. Such a powerful scene for a great beginning of the new season.
Sandi: Jon asks Mance if he'll bend the knee to Stannis. I'm glad that Ciarán Hinds had this scene before his exit, he's an amazing actor and I can't help feel that he's been sorely underused on the show. It's a shame that his story has been cut for the TV version, but it's understandable that they can't fit everything in. This season, above the previous ones, I have come to understand that you just have to treat the two mediums as different entities now.

NCIS, "Lost in Translation", April 14, 2015, Actors: Michael Weatherly, Sean Murray and more, The Scenes: Tony stabs McGee’s cardboard cutout & McGee reveals the April Fools joke to Tony
Tonya Papanikolas: Oh my gosh, this scene made me laugh so hard! It was hilarious to watch Tony recreate each of the victim’s stab wounds on McGee’s likeness. He hated that cutout so much, he was overjoyed to ruin it. And he did it with precision. Michael Weatherly charges his character with so much energy and humor, you can’t help but love watching him. He’s a little boy who doesn’t know how to control his jealous emotions, and when he acts out, he does it all the way. He almost took off McGee’s cardboard head. McGee’s expression as he watched was incredibly amusing. This scene was a memorable one. It really couldn’t have been any funnier.
Daniel van der Veer: As Tony had finally come to terms with McGee being the new face of NCIS, McGee reveals that it was all a late April Fools joke. Well done Jim and Tim (and possibly others)! It was Tony's reaction that was the best part for me. He shouted that this isn't over, but then when Jimmy and McGee have left, he smiles and says: "I've taught them well". Great moment!
NCIS LOS ANGELES, "Rage", April 13, 2015, Actors: Chris O'Donnell, Linda Hunt and more, The Scene: Callen remembers how Hetty changed his life
Tonya Papanikolas: I thought the flashbacks were done very well, in a way that let the viewer experience what it was like for Callen to have Hetty show up and change his path. If it was not for Hetty looking out for him, his life would have turned out very differently. And he knew it. I love that the flashbacks were also mingled with Callen in present day, telling his thoughts to Sam on how Hetty had been the “hand of God.” It showed how lucky he felt and how much he thought he owed Hetty. Chris O’Donnell was great as Callen mulled over his past. And the scenes really tugged at your heartstrings as you heard Hetty express how much she believed in Callen. The entire ending was fun to watch.
ONCE UPON A TIME, "Heart of Gold", April 12, 2015, Actors: Rebecca Mader and more, The Scene: Marian turns out to be Zelena
Pablozky21: I loved this week's OUAT. While some people weren't happy with the fact that Zelena has been undercovered as Marian, I just loved it! For one it is great to have Rebecca Madder back and Zelena brings endless possibilities and fun turns for the show from here onwards! There is so much that they can do now that she is back and every screen time second she got I just enjoyed to the fullest. Not to mention, it's far more entertaining to have Zelena than Marian on the show!

POLDARK, "Episode 6", April 12, 2015, Actors: Aidan Turner and more, The Scene: Ross uncovers Matthew cheating at cards
Sandi: It was a bit of a dark episode this week, and seeing Ross become so drunk for days on end after he and Dwight broke Jim out of gaol only for him to die shortly afterwards wasn't easy to watch. His dark mood at the ball is not what you expect to see from a traditional lead role, especially as we were under the impression that he was only attending it in order to convince his peers that he wasn't responsible for the jail-break in the first place. When the twist was finally revealed however - that he was gaining sympathy for Jim's cause and out to prove that George was using his cousin Matthew to cheat business owners out of their fortunes - it suddenly all fell into place. Fantastic story this week!
REVENGE, "Exposure", April 12, 2015, Actors: Emily VanCamp and more, The Scene: Emily's TV interview
Pablozky21: There was so much to like on this week's Revenge that it is almost impossible to believe that it was essentially a clip show. Old targets came back, loyalties were tested and broken, but my favorite bit has to be when Emily had that interview in which she went into specific details of her quest to clear David's name, gaining a heroine kind of status. The best part is when she says that Victoria is the only one who can end the whole thing, while she is standing in the street, watching her through a giant screen. It felt like old times.
THE AMERICANS, "I Am Abassin Zadran", April 15, 2015, Actors: Matthew Rhys, Alison Wright, The Scene: Philip reveals his true self to Martha
Tonya Papanikolas: Philip removes his disguise & shows Martha his true self. This scene left me stunned. It was amazing how much they said with no words at all. Philip was letting Martha into his real world, inviting her to trust him. Though he may have ulterior motives, he also seems to truly care for Martha and feel responsible for her. It was a huge step for him to want to drop the facade and reveal his true self. His actions were both caring and respectful. This was also one of the only times we’ve seen Philip (or Elizabeth) take off their disguises, which made it fascinating to watch. Alison Wright just floored me. Her wide eyes showed Martha hurt, distressed, confused, incredulous, shocked and scared. Philip gives her time to take it in. But this was a very vulnerable moment for him as well. Matthew Rhys was also fantastic. With no words, he begs her for another chance if he totally lets her in. It will be interesting to see how Martha ultimately reacts but my guess is she is in for the long haul now. The powerful acting in this scene left an indelible mark – all without any dialogue. That’s a rarity you don’t often see on TV, and never like this. Also picked by DarkUFO

The Scene: Cisco reveals his 'dreams' about Wells
Sandi: OK, I may be reading too much into this but I'm hoping that this is the start of Cisco becoming the Vibe. He was killed in the altered timeline with vibration energy, and he is the only one who is having these 'dreams' so far.

ReplyDeleteRaylan and Boyd's last scene. One of the most nostalgic, beautifully acted scenes and it earned Justified a spot on the Greatest Series Finale's list.
Raylan: Well, I suppose if I allow myself to be sentimental, despite all that has occurred, there is one thing I wander back to.
Boyd: We dug coal together.
Raylan: That's right.
You should know the show to appreciate the beauty of those words but you don't need to know the show to appreciate the beauty in that understated acting.
When so many shows leave you with the WTF just happened? look during the finale, Justified did every single thing right.

1) Justified: Raylan and Boyd talking to one another for the last time. Their dialogues, the jokes, the memories of "dugging coal together" and their eyes full of tears. Oh, boy, my heart.
2) Vikings: the greatness of Ragnar Lothbrock in one, single scene (the baptism).
Bates Motel is having a killer season, can't get over how good it is. The entire cast is brilliant!

ARROW- ALL THINGS ROY HARPER!! Roy kicked ass. I will miss him so much. I loved the scene with Oliver, and Oliver's reaction when he found out Roy "died" and the way Oliver was holding back tears when saying goodbye. Team Arrow saying goodbye. It was all so Gah!! So sad and beautiful at the same time. My Team Arrow heart was crushed. I loved their whole plan. Team Arrow ftw! Bye Roy, hope to see you in season 4.
ReplyDelete-Loved Ra's and Thea's scene! Omg that was great. She didn't get a single blow, but she kicked ass. And as soon as Ra's threw her down on the table I literally screamed, "NO!!!" And then he just stabbed the crap outta her. I was sooo pissed cause iI saw it coming. And i honestly thought of Moira too in that moment. Glad i wasn't the only one.
- Felicity almost tells Oliver she loves him!!! UGHHHHHH I WANTED TO BREAK MY TV!!!! His face was Sooo sad! He was waiting for it!!!! And when she changed her sentence he looked so disappointed! Felicity whyyyyy!! It's all good. She'll tell him next week. I can wait a couple more days.
THE FLASH- Cisco tells Barry about his dreams. Barry tells Cisco and Caitlin about Wells. And i DO hope this is Cisco's first step to becoming Vibe as well. I would loveee that.
The Following - Joe fantasizes about breaking out of prison and Ryan saving him. -Ryan mistakes Mike for Joe in front of Gwen, and she accuses him of "losing it." -

Gotham- Selina kills what's his face to save Bruce.

With respect to the Daredevil scene nominated: I think the fight itself had some "off" moments, but knowing how technically difficult it was, I can look past that, and just applaud the crew for getting it done.

ReplyDeletePretty much every scene in Justified would qualify. I thin my favorites were where Ava hauled out of there after the shootout and the almost shootout between Rayland and Boyd. Also the scenes in Supernatural where Dean just wants a vacation at the beach, the Behind Blue Eyes montage, and Cas getting his Grace back.
Revenge!
