Grimm - Iron Hans - Review

26 Apr 2015

Embrace your true nature in Grimm Iron Hans. This week, Nick and Hank are brought in to investigate a homicide they learn is connected to an age-old Wesen rite of passage. Meanwhile, Juliette makes a surprising new ally. Elsewhere, Captain Renard continues to battle a darkness within, and Nick finds hope for Juliette in the last person he expected - Adalind.

What's wrong with Sean Renard? What I don't like about the show is how the writers drag a storyline for almost the whole season. We hot him bleeding every single episode so far, and we still don't know what's happening with him. It's a hint to say he's going to die? I hope not.

The Wesen of the week involves an interesting story. A Wesen family is on hunt-camping to get in touch with their wildest side of themselves. Everything seems fine till someone of the family is attacked and dies. Nick, Hank and Monroe are on the case and get to know this family. As the father recognizes Nick as a Grimm, he invites Monroe to join their ancient Wesen rite of passage. Things get really weird when one of the family named Maggie shows to have some interest in Monroe. Suddenly it becomes clear that she's the one who previously killed the guy in the wood. During their hunting session, she even tries to persuade Monroe to come with her and get on her side, but eventually she comes face to face with her tragic fate.

Let's talk about betrayal issues. Prince Kenneth finds that Juliette's superpowers are a valiant opportunity to join forces with, despite Adalind's concern. The Royal isn't stupid, as he has been known all along that Nick is the father of Adalind's child, and he's going to use this 'betrayal' thing to get rid of the pregnant Hexenbeist and catch the new powerful one, Juliette. Meanwhile Mrs Silverton has all the right reasons to be mad at Adalind (remember when her little spell made her lose her memory back in the season one finale?) and this pregnancy can be read as a betrayal. Kenneth pays the bill and Juliette is out of prison, so next move is making her believe that Nick cheated on her with Adalind, who now pregnant. Funny the line about the baby shower.

As Adalind arrives at the precinct, the bombshell is dropped. Everyone's reaction to Adalind's pregnancy is hilarious. Sean Renanrd makes the point a multiple times "That's not mine"; Nick can't believe either, but Adalind is not joking. Nick is the father and the belly is real. The scene in which she feels the baby kicking and takes Nick's hand to make him feel was really sweet, whether you like Adalind or not. And did anyone else notice the look Renard gave to them? Was he thinking about how much he misses Diana and being a father?
Anyway, the Hexenbeist is here for another reason: have his protection in exchange for helping Juliette to come back as a normal human being. But Juliette is full or rage and when she arrives at the precinct she's not happy to find her ex boyfriend with Adalind. She's ready to destroy her as Nick takes Adalind's side - he can't let Juliette killing her, since Adalind is his only hope to help his ex girlfriend. I wonder what the agents had thought in that moment when they looked at this kind of weird 'love' triangle lol

"OMG again!" poor Rosalee. She was the one more shocked when she saw Adalind pregnant. To help Juliette, even Rosalee is ready to make a great effort on standing her. Meanwhile, Juliette crosses a line when she burns down the trailer with Aunt Marie's books. How is Nick supposing to save people without those pages? Damn, Juliette. That was evil.

Next week is going to be a blast as Juliette is now the Evil Queen of the show - and maybe the queen of the Royals too? Will our heroes find out where Diana is?

  1. Loved this episode, especially how well they intertwined the case of the week with the other stuff. In some episodes, they feel like two different shows. Btw, you have the same name as Diana lol

  2. I get that The writers are gearing up to kill Juliette but i think i'm the only one who feels kinda bad for her at this point-As much as i like Nick,i'm not feeling his character at all lately.I know was kinda crossing the line but this show rarely deliver anything out of the ordinary so her burning down the Trailer was an absolute gamechanger.Go juliette!

  3. What if both Nick & Renard goth both Juliette & Adalind pregnant? Don't stare at me; it's technically possible.

    ReplyDelete
  4. No,it's not biologically possible.I'm a doctor,that doesn't happen.

  5. Just what i said. One woman cannot get impregnated by two different person at the exact same time.In the supernatural fictional world, sure but in reality,NO.

  6. The case of the week was good and i agree, it felt like we were watching 2 different shows. Well, thanks I like my name lol

  7. Agree that the Renard storyline of spontaneously bleeding wounds is wearing thin - wish they had come up with a better side plot for him but it all may tie in and come together in the finale. The burning of the trailer has to be one of the top wrenching moments in the whole series thus far.

  8. lol thanks God... but since this is a tv shows in which the supernatural world is involved, it may happen? btw i hope NOT, that'd be weird.

  9. They have enough baby melodrama going on as it is and don't forget when Nick finds out Juliette has moved in with Sean & had sex with him-That would an interesting conversation for sure!

  10. Really? I thought fraternal twins can have 2 different fathers. I remember a girl having a twin, one white and the other black.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Fraternal Twins (commonly known as "non-identical twins") usually
occur when two fertilised eggs are implanted in the uterine wall at the
same time that is when the mother releases two eggs and both become
fertilized by two different sperms. The two eggs form two zygotes. and
these twins are therefore also known as dizygotic.
Same father, different sperm. Not two different father.

  13. The story line is progressing as everyone speculated. Juliette is going to betray Nick. Her actions will result in a major loss etc. etc. I still don't hate or dislike her character. I am just terribly disappointed that she continues to be the writers punching bag. I have seen comments(elsewhere) that are full on demonizing Juliette and elevating Adalind to sainthood. WTF??? SMH!

  14. Guess i still have a lot to learn.LOL!
Anyway,i really hope the writers do go this way, they have messed this SL in the worst way possible already!

  15. True, it can happen,.probably not often, though! If the mother slept with two guys within a short time period, yes. I initially thought Adalind had slept with Renard around that time too, but it sounds like they didn't sleep together based on their conversation in Renard's office. I don't think I could handle that additional drama!

The death that's coming is probably Nick's mom. She'll fall into the trap but Diana will show up but as a grown and powerful hexenbiest and will fight off Juliette ("get away from my mother!"). Juliette will kill or be involved with killing Nick's mother but will escape with royal douche whatshisname. The dynamic will shift next season where Diana will want revenge against Juliette for killing her mother. The fact Diana considers Nick's mom as her mother will cause Adalind much resentment but she'll have a new baby Grimm to take care of. Nick will be very torn between trying to help and redeem Juliette, the woman he loves and used to love him and keeping his new family safe. Its tough being a Grimm in Portland.

  17. Juliette torching the grimm-mobile felt like the last straw, but I can't help but feel sorry for her. For starters, I really don't think she has much control over the changes that are happening to her, and I can't blame her for being angry and bitter. I also don't think that Nick handled the situation in the police station in the best way possible....I know he was trying to prevent a scene and protect the baby, but the way he addressed Juliette seemed almost cold and insensitive, even if it wasn't his intention. He should have been more mindful about how Juliette would have felt, watching him protect the person who ruined her life. I'm not surprised it pushed her over the edge. Anyway, I'm hoping that at some point, we're able to see the old Juliette again, because I don't think her character deserves to leave the show as a villain. I've always liked Adalind's character, and I'm glad that they're finally trying to make viewers see things from her perspective, but I the writers shouldn't have to turn Juliette into a hated character to make people start to like Adalind.

The Rendard story is odd and I hope it starts to make sense soon. Renard is another really interesting complex character, and it would be a shame to kill him off (in fact, why do they have to kill off anyone?) Even at this point, it's still difficult to tell where his allegiances lie.. And despite having a relationship (of sorts) with Adalind, Adalind's mom and Juliette, we've never seen him show much of an emotional connection with any of them. Anyway, I think his character has a lot of potential and killing him off would be a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You don't need to convince me of that, LOL

  19. After Renard's activities this week, I'm almost 100% certain that Grimm is setting him up to be the serial killer the storyline that starts next week.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't view Juliette as "the writers punching bag" at all. Not only were this week's Juliette scenes better than they have been in a long time but Bitsie Tulloch looks like she's having a lot of fun as evil Juliette and Juliette has accepted who she is even if everyone else refuses to. If only good things happened to good people all this would be very boring.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't agree that Nick mishandled things at the police station.

Juliette, who was just arrested for assault, made threats against a pregnant woman in a police station in front of police officers.

Nick was much more lenient and understanding than he could have been. If anyone else did what Juliette had done at the police station, Nick would have put cuffs on them and arrested them all over again.

Juliette forced Nick's hand during that confrontation at the station and in that moment, with everyone watching, he had to be a cop not a boyfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good call. His increasingly bizarre behavior seems to be leading to that. Maybe when Mama Renard brought him back from the other side, he brought back a dead serial killer with him. I love how they keep saying they are not sure about side effects from these various spells - really, do you think, ha.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Better have an evil Juliette than a boring Juliette.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nick is still in love with Juliette, don't forget. It's not easy for him to act like a cop in front of her.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with you and that makes the fact that he was able to keep his composure and diffuse the situation (at least temporarily) more impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, he did a great effort!

    ReplyDelete
  27. yea but even evil Juliette is annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I never liked Juliette much, even now i find her silly and annoying. I like Adalind much more, so much so that im kinda hoping Nick start develop feelings for her (with the baby's help). And yes, we need to know what's happening with Renard because it's getting ridiculous having him in the same scene every episode.

    ReplyDelete
  29. At this point that's true lol she needs to calm down, we got it: she's mad.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Agree. I've always been Team Adalind to be honest since I've always found Juliette's character really boring, till this season when the writers finally gave her a recent storyline - even if it's been dragging too much. Who knows, maybe it's in their intention to create a Nick\Adalind pair. Let's see.

    ReplyDelete
  31. God i hope so, it would be so much fun to watch lol. I am very interested to see where Adalind storyline is headed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't have an issue with NIck defending Adalind or trying to keep the peace in a police station, but he should not have let Juliette leave the station feeling the way she did. Even locking her up temporarily to just talk to her would have been better than being lenient and letting her go, because at least she wouldn't leave feeling alone or that Nick was no longer on her side. Then she probably wouldn't have run back to Kenneth or torched the van (which was done to force Nick to need his mother at some point) . So as a police officer, he did the most professional thing, but in terms of dealing with the Juliette, I'm not so sure he did the right thing.....Juliette turned into a Hexenbiest because she tried to help her boyfriend, and now finds out that her boyfriend is having a baby with Adalind....all because of what Adalind did to them. That must have felt like a slap in the face...it's the kind of situation that would push most people over the edge, which is why she shouldn't have been left alone. Right now, Kenneth is the only one who seems to understand human nature (and Wesen nature), which is why that scene unfolded exactly as he wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  33. After all the times Nick has tried to talk to Juliette and her dismissing his words outright, I don't think it's reasonable to believe that there was anything Nick could have said that would have made Juliette feel any different when she left that police station. Especially after Juliette confirmed Adalind's pregnancy. What could Nick possibly say that could have made Juliette feel any better that he hasn't tried to say already?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, I think it might have stopped her from running to Kenneth, but we can agree to disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Like it! But you forgot Rubel.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just went to the Grimm wiki and they had a crazy spectuation that Adalind will betrayed everyone and will end up getting Nick's mom killed, but I really think that it's Juliette will set up Kelly to be killed and Nick will retaliate, I wish they'll bring back Trubel! Plus, I really hate her for burning the freaking trailer with his legacies, I hope that Wu can digitalized each section!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like Juliette, but I also started to like Adalind at the end of season 1 when she lost her powers (because we got to see a different side of her). I think that Adalind's chemistry with Nick has been noticeable since season 1, so I'm surprised that the writers have avoided capitalizing on it until now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Funny though, because the rumor is that Tullock and Giuntoli are dating.

    ReplyDelete
  39. They've been hinting at various deaths all season. Monroe's nightmare about those people who were going to kill him, Adalind expressing worry that Juliette will kill her, and Renard, with those bleeding issues.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hope not.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I also thought Adalind slept with Renard after sleeping with Nick. I remember Renard driving her somewhere remote and having a conversation that resulted in them passionately kissing, pawing at each other's clothes. It was implied that they proceeded to the back seat of his SUV. I'm not dreaming this ... am I?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I heard that rumour a few weeks ago too and I was surprised. I wonder if it has been confirmed.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Trubel is back in the finale for Nicks revengey rampage .So not dead but back with her machete taking heads

    ReplyDelete
  44. I thought so too, but I'll have to go back and check. I think we'll continue to see a bunch of plot inconsistencies, because they didn't write these early episodes with Adalind's impending pregnancy in mind. Anyway, since both Adalind and Renard are pretty confident that Renard isn't the father, then I guess we're supposed to just assume that they didn't go "all the way" in their make out session.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, if you go through their twitter accounts you can see pics of them together, even on vacation. It seems like they've been dating since last year.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm afraid Renard is the one who's going to die.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm a little confused about this Juliette situation. I know they said that she couldn't be cured with Nick's blood, but is there a reason why they couldn't just get some of Trubel's blood and cure Juliette with that? It just seems strange that this hasn't been brought up.

And it still baffles me how Adalind didn't know she was pregnant by Nick until she was like 8 months along. I'm pretty sure she would have noticed sooner than that!

Otherwise, really enjoying this recent development. Crazy how much more interesting Juliette is as an antagonist. Her and Adalind have basically swapped roles and I think it's done both characters a lot of good. Definitely gonna miss Aunt Marie's trailer, though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You're probably right. His mother was able to bring him back from the dead, but his time is running out. He'll be missed.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'd like to believe that it was only starting to grow just when Adalind was entering the final few months of a pregnancy she didn't know she had. It actually grew from a simple bump during Kenneth's introduction a couple of episodes into quite the beer belly in the most recent installment.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah, but... that's not how pregnancies work. Adalind would have been showing sooner than that. A LOT sooner. And she would have known about it sooner too. Like when she missed her period, which would have happened at the start of the season.

Look, I'm willing to accept some Grimm fantasy-type explanation for this if they just offer one up (ex. Grimm/Hexenbiest hybrids just gestate differently than normal babies), but they haven't. It seems we are really meant to believe that Adalind got pregnant last summer and for some reason just didn't realize it or even start showing until around March, which. Doesn't. Make. Sense.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes, I agree.
