91 comments:

  1. Bob Morley, Iain De Caestecker, Jack Falahee, Jordan Gavaris, James D' Arcy, Cory Michael Smith and Tobias Menzies. (I'm sure I already went over the limit with my choices).

Bob Morley - portraying one of the best male characters on The CW!

Tobias Menzies - Black Jack in The Garrison Commander was incredible, brutally frightening but excellent performance.

Jordan Gavaris - His accent on the show alone is excellent, I rarely hear much about him and he does a wonderful job on Orphan Black, though he did win Best Supporting Actor at Canadian Screen Awards this year so thats nice :)

Iain De Caestecker, especially after what happened to him showed some of the best and most moving acting on SHIELD.

James D'Arcy is excellent, I already miss Jarvis :(
    time.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Also Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black

    ReplyDelete
  3. Of the one slisted:

Iain De Caestecker, James D'arcy, Joshua Jackson.

    Others:

x Walton Goggins should have his Emmy by now, for his consistently great work on The Shield, Justified and SOA.

x Matthew Rhys kills it every week on The Americans.

x Aden Young in Rectify gives the best performance no one is watching but if people actually watched would throw a million awards at.

  4. for me it's bob morley! I would have loved to see some scenese with bob and isaiah washington because I think he is an amazing actor as well and I loved their scene in 1x08 so much emotions and just amazing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Johnny Lee Miller - Elementary
    Jeff Perry - Scandal

  6. Bob Morley, David Ramsey and Jack Falahee.

  7. I was gonna vote for Bob Morley, Tyler Posey and Jack Falahee but I don't think the last 2 are really underrated, so just Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  8. For me Bob Morley is a bit overrated to be honest. Maybe because I find the performances delivered by other actors around him (on the 100) more nuanced and more believable. Only more recently when Bellamy was sneaked into MW did I start to see any acting worthy of the character on paper. So I went for Jordan Gavaris and his portrayal of Felix. It's everything and his comedic timing is beyond.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jensen Ackles. So underrated.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree on Goggins, he was just terrific in the Shield

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thats a rather small list in which many names are missed.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anybody who can be portrayed convincingly in any show without guns violence and special effects, that has terrific writing in which story and character development is primary.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bobby Morley; his performance during the first season was emmy worthy.
Joshua Jackson, James D'Arcy and Carlos Valdes are pretty underrated too and deserve some recognition

    ReplyDelete
  14. Tea leoni

    ReplyDelete
  15. He made Shane someone you could genuinely feel bad for in the end despite his behavior. I love the dedication Walton has to all his characters.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's why there is the "Other - Leave Comments" option.

    ReplyDelete
  17. From the list, Rick Hoffman. I agree that all of them are quite good talents, but Andre Holland or Joshua Jackson are working on shows that have premiered last year. They have time.

Personally, I find the cast of Mad Men, Justified, Boardwalk Empire or The Americans quite underrated.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Joseph Morgan, Bobby Morley

    ReplyDelete
  19. That character in the Shield was so convincing, In reality the whole thing nosebleed was terrific.

Bob Morley and Iain de Caestecker.

  21. William Petersen, Steven Moyer Pierce Bronson, Mathew Gray Gubler

    ReplyDelete
  22. Joseph Morgon is very underrated he nails his role and not everyone can play and hot vampire and pull it off :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. The most underrated actor on television is Mads Mikkelsen because he deserves to win every award for Hannibal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jonny was excellent in Eli Stone also.

    ReplyDelete
  25. other: Jensen Ackles(Supernatural, Ten Inch Hero, Dark Angel, Smallville), Walton Goggins (Justified,The Shield), Jonny Lee Miller(Eli Stone, Elementary), Daniel Gillies(TVD, The Originals, Saving Hope)

    Of course: Paul Wesley

    ReplyDelete
  27. Michael Emerson (Person of Interest)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Matthew Rhys - so underrated that he doesn't even find a place in the poll. Anyways, he has been doing stellar and award worthy work as Phillip Jennings on The Americans for the past three years.

    ReplyDelete
  29. HTGAWMRevengeOUAT11 March 2015 at 13:15

Jack falahee! He is so good on HTGAWM. Play a gay guy like this one is very difficult

    ReplyDelete
  30. Iain de caestecker such an amazing actor the transformation of fitz in s2 is one of the best things on the show

    ReplyDelete
  31. Him and Keri Russel have been killing it for 3 years with The Americans.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Daniel Gillies, can't believe he isn't mentioned here.

The guy adds a nuance and bodylanguage to his characters that is pretty unbelievable. That's also why he's often picked to carry scenes with some weaker actors.
Not only as Elijah he's fantastic but he delivered as Joel and if you have seen Broken Kingdom you know why the guy should deserve top spot. The guy is versitale and really is far from limited to one single character type like many of the actors here.

Bob Morely? I've only seen season one of The 100 so far an the guy is neither delivering nor selling the role. He's not bad, don't get me wrong but the way he`s treated here makes it seem as if he's a tad overrated.

    Tyler Posey, oh boy....

Joseph Morgan, he's hit and miss with me. He's a notorious overactor that goes all out with his scenes. This can work but at times also doesen't. Many of his scenes are fantastic, then again some are just terrible. His uncontrolled energy is brilliant but doesen't work for more nuanced scenes.

To be honest, many of the actors mentioned on here are actors I would consider fairly meh. Carlos Valdes is certainly delivering a charming character but isn't too sophisticated in his performance, various scenes do seem like he's reading off prompter. And when he ad libs you notice it

Posey along with the Teen Wolf cast (yes, that includes O'Brien) is just shamefull in their performance and if anything are highly overrated.

    So my final list?

    1. Other (Gillies, how the eff was he left off this list?!)
    2. Ian DeCaesteker (while I'm not fond of recent AoS episodes he does indeed deliver)
    3. Joseph Morgan (a tad overrated on here but of most of his competetors still the better choice)
    4. Other#2 (Yusuf Gatewood, dude absolutely owns his character)
    5. Jordan Garvais

James D'Arcy is great but not really underrated, dudes a movie star

so....I guess I finished sh*tting on a few peoples favourite actors.

But there's a theme here I'd like to mention: hot or "bad boy you have to love" doesen't equal a good actor

I mean, I'm missing quite a few actors on that list. Especially those that are over 30! Where're Harry Lennix, Timothy Hutton, Henry Ian Cusik or Barrowman

The trend this list follows is "hot, young and most preferrably bad boys"

    ReplyDelete
  33. Still kinda peed that Gillies isn't even mentioned on that list

    ReplyDelete
  34. He's been awarded with quite a few Peoples Choice Awards in the past. And I agree, fangirls tend to look first to Paul/Ian while JoMo (while not perfect he's still good, I'm still saying that Gillies outacts him with ease due to Morgans heavy overacting) has delivered way better material than both of them.

Paul is good though, Ian...he seems to not care anymore. He was great on LOST and earlier TVD seasons but since season 4...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, in all fairness that "Other" is always suggested to being the "go ahead if you want to vote for someone we consider not good enough". I know it isn't but such lists tend to be quite...ummm...itchy for some

    ReplyDelete
  36. Fun fact: Johnny Lee Miller was the male lead on Dracula 2000, Couldn't believe it when I saw it

    ReplyDelete
  37. Like I said back on the actresses poll, underrated is always very subjective but these are some people I would like to see having more recognition:
    - Andrew Lincoln, The Walking Dead (it should be a crime that he has never earned an Emmy or GG nomination)
    - Bob Morley, The 100 (for the first season)
    - Brett Dalton, Marvel's Agents of Shield
    - Chris Messina, The Mindy Project
    - Danny Pudi, Community
    - Evan Peters, American Horror Story
    - Gabriel Matcht, Suits
    - Grant Gustin, The Flash
    - Hugh Dancy, Hannibal (seriously!!)
    - Ian De Caestecker, Marvel's Agents of Shield
    - Jack Falahee, How to Get Away with Murder
    - Jack Gleeson, Game of Thrones
    - Jake Johnson, New Girl
    - James Darcy, Marvel's Agent Carter
    - Jeff Perry, Scandal
    - Jim Caviezel, Person of Interest
    - Joe Lo Truglio, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
    - Joel McHale, Community
    - Joseph Morgan, The Originals
    - Joshua Jackson, The Affair
    - Justin Chamber, Grey's Anatomy (more the earlier seasons though)
    - Justin Theroux, The Leftovers - this guy should win an emmy this year for best oustanding actor in a drama series, though I am not even sure he will get a nomination
    - Kevin Chapman, Person of Interest
    - Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal
    - Matt Bomer, White Collar
    - Matt Czuchry, The Good Wife
    - Matthew Goode, The Good Wife
    - Michael Emerson, Person of Interest
    - Michael Sheen, Masters of Sex
    - Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Game of Thrones
    - Pedro Pascal, Game of Thrones
    - Robin Lord Taylor, Gotham
    - Rupert Friend, Homeland
    - Sam Underwood, The Following
    - Shawn Ashmore, The Following
    - Teddy Sears, Masters of Sex
    - Thomas Sadoski, The Newsroom
    - Tony Goldwin, Scandal

I think people like Andrew Lincoln, Grant Gustin, Hugh Dancy, the aforementioned Justin Theroux, Rupert Friend, Tony Goldwin or Shawn Ashmore should have been/ should be leading discussions in their categories in terms of awards and sadly they aren't even considered close possibilities for nominations which is a real shame. Grant for instance will never get his due but I am a firm believer that he should get awards recognition for the way he has humanized the Barry character and made a super hero look like the guy next door, he doesn't get enough credit for what he did there. Also, Justin deserves all the awards in the world for the first season of the leftovers, the roller coaster of emotions he went through was just incomparable.

  38. Hoon Lee for sure! Not only him but also Banshee as a TV show, his character is unique in television.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yea I think he's tired of the show and didn't think they would need a season 7 renewal but in all Ian was much better at acting before than he is now. Paul seems just happy to work and come due time Joseph will get his shine needed

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great choices all around!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think if anyone wants to fault Season 2 of the 100 for something it is for putting Bellamy more on the backgorund, though it has improved a bit in the second half. But if you consider Season 1, his performance was incredible as he showed us the various layers of Bellammy and had his character progress from a rebellious kid to a responsible leader.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've stopped watching The Americans but I will always agree with this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Michael Emerson, Tony Goldwin, Rupert Friend & maybe Robert Carlyle.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jonathan Jackson Nashville, 5 time Emmy winner is the only reason I watch. One of the best all round actors.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Rick Hoffman is great, but I wouldn't consider him underrated. His performances are usually praised, and most people claim that he is the main reason why they even watch Suits.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Actors I think deserve praise and recognition - I'd pull any one scene from these guys and they could have an emmy right now.

Walton Goggins, Justified -There is not one thing this man cannot do, not one character he cannot play.
Jensen Ackles, Supernatural - He can do dark, funny, serious, sad, single man tear and never have to use dialogue.

Jere Burns, Duffy - Justified - I don't know how he does what he does with a straight face.
    Matthew Rhys - The Americans
Charlie Hunnam - Sons of Anarchy
Jason Momoa - The Red Road

    ReplyDelete
  47. Matthew Rhys performance manages to terrify me (when he got super angry at Paige in S2 "YOU RESPECT JESUS BUT NOT US?") and break my heart (when he spoke about the sex training). I'm also really impressed by his accent, a Welsh man playing a Russian who is pretending to be American (and often has varying other accents).

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with you on Bob Morley. I really like Bellamy and the actor has come a long way but he's overrated here, IMO. I think he'll be a great actor in the future but right now, he's good. Not emmy worthy, yet.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jordan Gavaris.. It's easy to be underrated when being a supporting character alongside Tatiana Maslany but Felix has been portrayed so perfectly from the beginning. & Bob Morley (season 1) was incredible & such a stand out on the CW.. Unfortunately s2 hasn't given the character much but when they have (Survival of the Fittest& Coup de Grace) its been extremely special. I guess what I'd say is the actor deserves more from the show I suppose for s3 so we get s1 Bob Morley acting back!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ian Somerhalder-TVD

    ReplyDelete
  51. Joel will probably never get an award. He's pissing off the wrong people with The Soup again and again.

I love the man more than you can imagine and objectively he deserves every award possible, however I doubt that he'll be awarded big ever again. He might be cool with some of the people he mocks (I heard that he actually has a good relationship with the Kardashians despite his constant mocking of them) but certainly not some of the rich, white and old execs he pissed off in the past.

The way he completely destroyed Ressurection last year alone makes it pretty unlikely that ABC will let him ever appear on that network again

But how are Evan Peters, Jim Caviziel, Michael Emmerson or Mads Mikkelson underrated?

    ReplyDelete
  52. None of the POI guys has gotten any recognition awards wise over what they've done on the show over the years. And Mads has gotten squatch for Hannibal too. Maybe Evan isn't underrated per se since he gets so much love on the fandom but in terms of awards he is mostly ignored too.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think Bob Morley got a lot of recognition for S1, now he is underused. Ian has been praised for S2. (I did vote for them) but in my opinion it is David Ramsey who everyone loved but lack of good writing he can't flex his acting skills. Also voted for Tyler Posey, cause although he is not the best on the list I think he does a good job, always surprised at how different he is from Scott - Its just there are more intersting characters on the show. Bob and Tylers Talent is also overshadowes by their popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  54. For me right now, it's Anna Faris. Allison Janney is getting most of the attention (deservedly), but I think Anna Faris is doing some really great work on "Mom" too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Patrick J. Adams- Suits

    ReplyDelete
  56. Other - Walton Goggins,
Jenson Ackles, Michael Emerson, Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus & Simon Helberg. One from the list, Robert Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  57. We see a lot of 'aAgry Elizabeth' but we rarely get to see 'Angry Philip' because he bottles it all inside but when he does let it out it is glorious - case in point - the S2 scene you mentioned "YOU RESPECT JESUS BUT NOT US?" - one of my favorite Philip scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Georgette Timmerman11 March 2015 at 16:20

It is more than questionable that JONNY LEE MILLER has not been awarded one EMMY! His portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in ELEMENTARY is flawless! He delivers the most intelligent dialogue on TV today exquisitely! With no words to speak, he expresses a ton of emotion with his eyes alone! JONNY LEE MILLER is certainly the most underrated actor on TV!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Of those listed Harry Teadaway would be my pick I guess.
I've liked him since a little-seen Showtime drama called Meadowlands (Cape Wrath in the UK) with David Morrissey. Maybe the first time I saw Sean Harris as well as Tom Hardy and Felicity Jones when still quite young.

Not on the list but should be in any conversation about underrated actors:
    - Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified)
    - Joel Kinnaman (The Killing)
    - Mathew Rhys (The Americans)
    - Aden Young ( Rectify)
    - Andre Holland (The Knick)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Iain , Tyler and Bobby are some of the most underrated in my opinion. Also, I'm glad Stephen Amell isn't listed on this poll. He is an okay, if not bad, actor. David Ramsey is a much better actor on Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Rick Hoffman & Jack Falahee
Other: Patrick J Adams and Jesse Spencer

    ReplyDelete
  62. Michele Klinger11 March 2015 at 17:28

Charles Esten for me! I remember the days when he was on Whose Line is it Anyway and his Nashville character is a complete 180 from that. He is able to convey so much emotion and has definitely given me emotional reactions.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ShinyPenny New York11 March 2015 at 17:42

Just another popularity contest most on the list I would not choose. And it seems like this is the same trend the award shows are taking. It's should be about their body of work, not how their body looks.

    Sebastian Roche - The Originals

    Jonathan Jackson - Nashville

    Joshua Jackson - The Affair
These actors bring complex characters to life.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You're right he had taken a backseat as war planning took center stage but shouldn't that be incentive for the actor to bring it? My thoughts are based mostly on season 1. I feel he was given such meaty material and I expected more but it usually fell a little short. I agree about the character development as far as going from rebellious kid to something akin of a leader but I'm not yet convinced he is the heir apparent the fandom regard him as. As a viewer, I should be convinced of this and that is all down to the actor but for me it hasn't come across as such only more recently have I seen glimpses of this.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've heard a mixture of praise and hate for Stephen Amell but I think he's definitely underrated. His acting reminds me of Tom Hardy in the sense that when Hardy was playing as Bane, he showed his emotions and feelings through his eyes and while Stephen isn't wearing a mask as Ollie, he definitely shows his emotions through his eyes. Possibly why he seems so "stiff" when he's The Arrow because of that domino mask, but I love Amell as Oliver Queen, present and flashbacks.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Iain De Caestecker, Jordan Gavaris, Jonathan Groff, Chandler Riggs

Runners up: Tony Curran, Brett Dalton, Adam Driver, André Holland, Matt McGory, Danny Pudi, Aden Young

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ian De Caestecker,Joesph Morgan,Daniel Gilles,Jonny Lee Miller,Hugh Dancy,Brett Dalton,Jordan Gavaris,Matthew Rhys,Robert Carlyle & Jensen Ackles to name a few-such fantastic actors!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jaime Ray Newman. Whether she's playing a magical earth mother, a super smart scientist, or a biker b*tch werewolf, she nails it everytime.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I completely forgot Andrew Lincoln. He has been excellent in portraying the iconic character that is Rick Grimes.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Bob Morley from The 100

    ReplyDelete
  71. Alex O'Loughlin of Hawaii Five-0. He has the ability to convey a truckload of emotions, with just a single facial expression. Alex has been given the opportunity to show his acting chops in only a handful of episodes, the best being HF-0's 100th episode, (5.07 "If, Perhaps"). He was great !! The rest of the time, HF-0 is mostly frivolous, wasting a really good actor. I hope he will go on to better things.

    ReplyDelete
  72. From the list:

    Iain De Caestecker
    Jordan Gavaris
    and
    James D' Arcy

I also voted other because IMO there's a bunch of actors who I think deserve the nod and aren't on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Jared Padalecki

  74. Joseph Morgan is underrated?? you are kidding me, right?

  76. The entire cast of Chicago pd except sophia and jesse.

    ReplyDelete
  77. daniel Gillies and Joseph Morgan dont get enough credit they are the two best actors on the Originals

    ReplyDelete
  78. Noel fisher - shameless... This season he has made me so sad too many times

    ReplyDelete
  79. I would add Stephen Amell to the list. Between acting Oliver different at 3 and more different time periods, doing many of his own stunts, social media, his leadership and promotion of the show and his charity work, he's very much underrated,

    ReplyDelete
  80. Rick Hoffman. Dude plays Louis perfectly. Also Posey. He's not Emmy worthy or anything, but he has come far from the cringe worthy season one days. He's done some actually pretty good emotional work. Like in the episode Motel California.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yes I agree with daniel gillies he makes the show for me

    ReplyDelete
  82. David Ramsey, Jordan Gavaris, Tobias Menzies, and Robert Tayler

I think everyone except Robert Tayler will be understandable to a lot of people. Loved Longmire and Robert Tayler did some awesome work that, as per the poll, went largely unnoticed.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Joshua Jackson is amazingly talented (he is SO GOOD in Fringe the whole cast of that show was fantastic) but I don't think he's exactly underrated. He hasn't really had hit shows recently but everyone still remembers him from Dawson's Creek and Fringe and lots of people think he's a great actor so.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Bob Morley and Joseph Morgan.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Cillian Murphy of Peaky Blinders!

    ReplyDelete
  86. None of these. The most underrated cast (and show) on tv right now is Person of Interest. It's on CBS so everybody just assumes it's the standard fare (to be honest, the show started that way and blew up in the second half of season 1) and I'm constantly amazed that they are getting no recognition at all from awards. But then CBS is too busy hyping its heavy hitters like NCIS and propping up The Good Wife to do much campaigning on PoI's behalf. Still, it's a shame
