Shameless - Southside Rules - Advance Preview: “Your Heart May / Will Break”

Hi Shameless fans, as a big fan of this show, I’ll be previewing the next episodes before the Season Finale.

Where do I start. This episode is both a really funny and emotional episode. I’m going to do my best to be informative but try to not give to much away because this episode is one you do not want to miss. I also think this episode has some excellent performances that both the writers and actors have worked on, so I want to acknowledge them in the best way I can by getting you ready for this Sunday's episode! I haven’t previewed many shows before so I hope to not disappoint you.

Debbie and her boyfriend take things to the next level, I feel like just that statement alone has become such a universal definition of doing certain things, so I’ll just leave that there.

Frank is being shown in a kinder light during this episode, something many fans may have not expected from him but maybe had hoped?

As you may have seen from the promotional photos that were released, Mickey and Ian have a bloody fun time (pun intended). Their scenes really will make gif makers extremely happy. Watching Noel Fisher and Cameron Monaghan during this episode is a joy, they are so undeniably honest to one another, it's evident in this episode and all episodes. They both make each other incredibly happy and I think the writers really hit back to the core of their relationship in this episode, Gallavich gets some well needed screen time. It seems as if their journey is the most heartbreaking to watch and having seen the next episode it’s definitely going to be a battle but it gives these two excellent actors some truly incredible material to work. I will mention this, Mickey and Ian have a bit of a karaoke moment, you really don't want to miss it, it's going to make you smile.

The music is truly evocative in two scenes, (trying to find the music before the episode airs is a challenge but its worth it, for me at least). One of them occurs between Kev and Veronica, the music choice is great, it plays in the background, the characters utter no words whilst the camera moves to their faces creating a very intimate and moving scene, it's one of my favourite moments. The second moment occurs between Mickey and Ian.

Lip is truly beginning to realise just how much you don’t need to question why good things happen to you. Goodness doesn’t require something in return but his upbringing has left him with this idea that if something good happens you has to do something in exchange and it's quite a poignant moment admist the unusual circumstances. He really has shown so much growth this season at College, realising he can be much more than he thinks he can be and that he actually is someone special who could do great things with his life if he only gave himself the chance and I'm enjoying seeing this journey. I will tease that drugs at College from Kev isn't always the best idea. Sasha Alexander (Professor Helene) delivers some brutally honest dialogue which I think you will like. She's also the hottest but most intellectual professor at his campus so I can see why Lip likes her which may not bode well with others. I really like Sasha on the show, she's a fun and memorable character.

To end, I've got to say that you really don't want to miss this episode. It literally will break you heart before the episode ends because the events that occurred aren't what I expected and the performances will shatter your heart even more.

Here are some Teaser Quotes:

“This place is actually staring to mean something to me.”

“Who melted my spatula?”

“There free.”

“I’m out of shape.”

“I’m not going to leave until I know your okay.”

“Shut the f*** up, take your pills b****”

Episode 10 ‘Southside Rules’ airs this Sunday at 9 on Showtime. I can’t believe the seasons nearly over. Thank you for reading my preview. Let me know in the comments who your favourite characters are and how your finding this season so far. While you wait here are 2 Sneak Peeks. Let me in the comments what you thoughts are of this season and who's your favourite Gallagher (Mickey included).

  2. I'm liking Season 5. Ian is definitely the character I'm more interested in, and I really hope he and Mickey will have more screen time as you wrote. Thanks for the snippets :)

  4. Having a bi-polar mother and living with her for the past 10 years... Cameron Monagham(Ian) is doing a fantastic job!

  5. yeah, I did but this sentence "It literally will break you heart before the episode ends because the events that occurred aren't what I expected and the performances will shatter your heart even more" makes me worried. Is it about Gallavich? Why do I have a feeling there is no saving for Ian? I just hope cameron monaghan is not leaving this show for gotham, or some s h i t like that...

  6. is it really so hard for people with this desease. What I mean is: if they use their medicine, dont they behave more like people without bipolar disorder? Are they more tired, less active because of the pills? I'm just trying to figure out how the writters gonna handle this bipolar plot they themselves wrote. I just hope Ian is gonna be more like season 3 Ian at some point. Or maybe the writers wrote themselves into the corner and there is just one way out...

  7. Thanks :)

I don't want to spoil it but its really a moving scene, it may include them. I don't think he'll leave Shameless, he can do both since both shows film at different times. Next Monday I'll have another preview addressing one of your questions :)

  8. ok, thanks. Can't wait. I just really love the two of them, the writers and the actors did a great job creating this couple. Its the most consistent relationship in this show, and the best gay couple on tv.

  9. LOVE THIS! Thank you so much for sharing! So we're finally going to see Gallavich talking, kissing, all that important stuff that's been missing all season? Finally! I CAN'T WAIT!

Excited to read your preview of the next episode!!

  10. Well, first it took my mother years to get the right medication. The thing is, the person could be great for months and then something happens(let's say a bi-polar break up with his/her boyfriend/girlfriend), and that could send them weeks into some dark places.
They will always have ups and downs. The purpose of the medication is to make those low points not so low and for them to recover faster(it still needs a psychologist and a psychiatrist).
My mother had hallucinations, lose of personality and much more when she was bad medicated.
Now she is doing well for a year or so, but now and then she will be down and spent a few days or weeks in bed. Maybe one day she will wake up great, at noon she will start crying and at night she will want to go out to see a movie.
It's really exhausted for the close family. Mickey's reaction is great also, since lots of partners tend to leave. It's pretty scary.
Fiona and Lip were like me, for example: "Oh, okay. Another relapse...". After years(or like them, having a mother) it becomes normal and you just deal with it... It's still crappy.
The show is doing a great service to the dicease.

  12. HI! Thank you SO much for sharing this with us!! Just please tell me one more thing: from a scale frok 1 to 10, how heartbroken will we be about Ian and Mickey this episode? I mean even if you told me everything that happens I will still watch and re-watch the episode countless times so do not worry :) and since this is spoilertv, please, really anything concerning gallavich that you may know and want to share with us is more than welcome and appreciated :) ! Again thanks so much, and thanks in advance!

  13. your very welcome :) I was quite heartbroken, the scenes are just so brilliantly acted, so much emotions.

I can't spoil as it will give too much away. don't worry its not all broken hearts theres a lot of memorable gallavich moments. It's a very well written episode, I hope you aren't disappointed.

  15. I'm so excited for this episode. Ian's my favourite. I love how he's so quiet but the strong one a lot for his family, the one who knew where he was going and was controlled and disciplined but now he's the one who's totally lost control of his own mind, his self discipline, all of it and he needs help. It's devastatingly good tv and hard for him but Cameron is doing an amazing job with all of this.
My main issue with season 5 has been how cut off Lip has been from his family. I get exactly why they've done this as in order to survive and better himself at uni he almost needs to be away and out of it but I miss him being totally involved in everything. Especially what's been going on with Ian. They were so very close and I miss seeing Lip involved with his little brother's major major issues here. The scene this week between them where he reminded Ian 'you got this' was so very moving. And necessary.
I guess what I'd like to ask is 'is Lip back in all the drama with Ian' in the episodes you've seen. I want him to be there for his brother without ruining his own life, and surely with the potential surfacing of the MP's to take Ian to military prison next episode that's going to affect Lip too since it was his ID he was using. Anyway. More Lip/Ian scenes I need like air. Do we have anything to look forward to?
Thanks for the lovely preview. x

  16. thats really worse than I thought it would be...Now I'm even more pissed off at the writer for making Ian have this disorder. He will never be like he was in season 1-3 again. They have no choice, they have to make him behave like this for a long time, kill the character off, send him to some hospital or introduce some made up medicine.

  17. Thanks so much and your very welcome :)
Yeah, I noticed that, they were very close and I completely agree, that scene was very awesome. I can say that Lip is there for a bit but hardly, which is sad but I'll explain more in another preview as he has a much different storyline at the moment. There's much more to Ian's storyline.

  18. Damn, fair enough. Thought that might be the case. At least i'm prepared. Here's hoping they get back to the brotherly love with these pair though. Two scenes on their own all season is way too few.

  19. I loved you're preview. It's given me and a lot of the people I know that watch this show hope for this episode :) I can't wait to see this episode and I'm also looking forward to your next preview <3 And also..I wonder what that "bloody fun time" would imply. Whatever it means, I hope it's romantic or funny haha :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks, yeah you'll definitely get the Gallavich scenes you've been missing, mixed with the usual Gallagher moments too :)
It's a bit of both and something else ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh my gosh, now you got me even more curious what that particular 'something else' is ! You're killin' me lol Because seeing the promo, I see Ian throwing a quick punch and I see the promo stills where Ian and Mickey are bloody and smiling and laughing. And I'm just wondering what the hell could they be so HAPPY about haha. I can't wait to see :D I'm sure I'll be happy.

  22. Hey all, thought you might find this interesting.

Over the last few episodes, there have been several well placed foreshadows, easter eggs and hints to something big and possibly bad coming up. Not sure if anyone else noticed them, but the creators of Shameless used this technique in Season 2 leading up to Monica attempting suicide (Ex. Carl spelling Fundraiser, "Fun Razor" and making the slash sound in the episode before). Here are the things I've noticed.

    1) Fiona talking about how silence in the Gallagher household usually means someone has stopped breathing.
    2) Frank playfully pointing his fingers like a GUN at Liam and shooting (The camera angles they used for this emphasized it too)
    3) Sammy shooting Frank with a GUN.
    4) Bianca talking about wanting to go out with a BANG not a whimper.
    5) Lip asking Ian if Mickey was putting a GUN to his head.
    6) Lip's professor talking about that artist and stating her name, Egan Sheila, but when she says it, it sounds exactly like A GUN.
    7) Shot of Ian, Liam, Carl and Mickey's bedroom with the Crime Scene tape around it.
    8) Weird shot of Ian during Chucky's hearing, his fist clenching, etc.
    9) Ian wearing green in Episode 9 and Sammy bringing in a green bag to see Chucky, weapon inside of it.

There are a few others, but I'll stop there. They've done this before and it is usually their way of teasing a big moment during a season. If I had to guess, Sammy is going to shoot either Ian, Mickey or Liam. Those are the three currently left in that bedroom. I'd rule out Liam because it would be VERY dark and Liam had a near death last season. That leaves Ian and Mickey. My best guess would be she tries to shoot Ian, but Mickey ends up taking the bullet and dies. This will happen in their bedroom upstairs, explaining the shot showcasing the crime scene tape around that room and Frank doing his fake gun gesture in that same bedroom.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but I've been noticing these things for a couple episodes and I'm fairly certain that if I haven't hit the nail on the head, I'm at least close.

    Thoughts?

  23. I don't know. I think it's probably Sammi who holds a gun to Ian and Mickey in the next episode but they're both in the stills for 5x11 and they're fine. Anything could happen in 5x12 but tbh I doubt anyone is going to get killed! Those "clues" are eerie though, you spooked me a little bit :D
