The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

    Rating/Share
    CBS 7.7/13
    NBC 3.4/ 6
    ABC 3.2/ 5

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Oscar Evening – Sunday 3/30/14:
    NBC: +31, CBS: – 7, ABC: -24, Fox: -33

    ———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

    -Solid in Total Viewers:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “Madam Secretary” (CBS)

    -Losers (excluding repeats):
    “Revenge” (ABC), “Battle Creek” (CBS)

    ———-

    Ratings Breakdown:
Note: The regularly scheduled Sunday line-up on CBS began at 7:15 p.m. on the East Coast due to an NCAA Basketball primetime overrun. All individual series results for CBS are, therefore, estimated.

The 15-minute basketball overrun on the Eye net scored a 12.8 rating/23 share in the household overnights from 7-7:15 p.m., leading into granddaddy “60 Minutes” at 9.7/16 from 7:15-8:15 p.m. Next was “Madam Secretary” at an 8.1/13 from 8:15-9:15 p.m., which remains solid in total viewers thanks to the support of the 50+ crowd. And that led into critically acclaimed “The Good Wife,” also older skewing, at a 6.5/10 from 9:15-10:15 p.m., followed by doomed recent entry “Battle Creek” at 4.2/7 from 10:15-11:15 p.m., which trailed “The Mentalist” on the year-ago evening (6.4/11 on 3/30/14) by 34 percent.

Although “Battle Creek” slipped by 35 percent from lead-in “The Good Wife,” CBS still finished first in the overnights in each of the eight half-hours last night. The obstacle, however, remains attracting the coveted younger demographics on the evening.

On NBC, annual the ‘iHeart Radio Music Awards” scored a 3/9 6 in the overnights from 8-11 p.m., which was an eight percent increase from last year’s telecast on NBC (on Thursday 5/01/14). And this should be more than enough for the Peacock net to dominate the time period in adults 18-49 nationally.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was an encore telecast of “The Voice” at a 1.9/ 3 (#3) from 7-8 p.m.

On ABC, week five of drama “Secrets & Lies” dipped to a series-low 3.4/ 5 (#3) at 9 p.m., which was six percent below the 3.6/ 5 one week earlier. And that 3.6 in the household overnights translated into a 1.5 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 (out of a 1.9/ 6 for lead-in “Once Upon a Time”), based on the Live Plus Same Day data. In other words, “Secrets & Lies” remains on the fence.

Next on ABC was sinking “Revenge” at a last-place 3.0/ 5 at 10 p.m., which should translate into about a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49. In other words, “Revenge” needs to end. And earlier in the evening on ABC was a repeat of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.3/ 6 at 7 p.m.) into “Once Upon a Time” at a below-average 3.3/ 5 from 8-9 p.m. (#3), which will probably equal about a 1.8 rating in the demo.

On Fox, two more episodes of sitcom “The Last Man on Earth” slipped to an average 2.1/ 3 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m., which was 22 percent below the 2.7/ 4 for two episodes one week earlier. But that 2.1/ 3 was still 24 percent above the 1.7/ 3 for the repeat of lead-in “Family Guy” at 8:30 p.m.

    Also on Fox were encores of “The Simpsons” (#4: 1.1/ 2), “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.0/ 2) and “The Simpsons” (#4: 1.5/ 2) from 7-8:30 p.m.
