———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. These overnights are your first look at the ratings and a precursor to what could lie ahead. And we take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence.

-Winners:
“Survivor” (CBS), “Empire” (Fox)

-Promising:
“CSI: Cyber” (CBS)

-Consistent:
“American Idol” (Fox), “Criminal Minds” (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
Nothing…42 percent of the schedule was in repeats.

———-

Ratings Breakdown:
The growth continues for Fox mega-hit “Empire,” which at a 10.1 rating/16 share in the household overnights from 9-10 p.m. was five percent above the 9.6/15 one week earlier. And that 9.6 rating in the overnights translated into 14.33 million viewers and a 5.8 rating/17 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data. Comparably, this was the ninth consecutive week of growth for “Empire,” which could very well be a record historically. And “Empire” built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “American Idol” (7.5/12) by 35 percent.

Ten-week overnight track for “Empire”: 6.8/10 – 7.3/11 – 7.6/12 – 7.9/12 – 8.0/12 – 8.2/13 – 8.8/13 – 9.2/14 – 9.6/15 – 10.1/16. Worth repeating: unprecedented!

Overall, “American Idol” led the 8-9 p.m. hour with a 7.0/12, which was equal to one year earlier. But chances are competing “Survivor” (#2: 5.6/ 9) on CBS will have the advantage in adults 18-49 (which, last week, was a 2.3 rating/7 share for “Survivor” versus a 2.1/ 7 for “American Idol”). Three weeks into this new edition of “Survivor” and it remains an ongoing addiction.

In week two news, “CSI” spin-off “CSI: Cyber” dipped by only two percent from one week earlier with a dominant 6.3/11 in the 10 p.m. hour. And that 6.4/11 in the overnights last week translated into 10.46 million viewers and a 1.8/ 6 among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data. Overnight retention, meanwhile, was a solid 94 percent out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Criminal Minds” (6.7/11) and this was on par with its year-ago parent series in the hour, which are two more positives. The prognosis: While CBS may want to deviate from any new crime solvers next season (based on the failure of also recently introduced “Battle Creek” on Sunday), the “CSI” formula still resonates with the older crowd.

Overall, veteran “Criminal Minds” (#2: 6.5/10) built by three percent week-to-week opposite the “Empire” steamroller. But, year-to-year, it dipped by 14 percent from the 7.6/12 on 3/12/14.

In season-finale news was sophomore drama “The 100” on The CW at a 1.1/ 2 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m., which built from a repeat of lead-in “Arrow” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 8 p.m.) by 37 percent.

Elsewhere, repeat was the operative observation. Distant third-place NBC populated the evening with encores of “The Mysteries of Laura” (#4: 3.3/ 6), “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 2.7/ 4) and “Chicago PD” (#2: 3.2/ 5). And ABC aired repeats of “The Goldbergs” (two episodes: #4: avg. 3.2/ 6 from 8-9 p.m.) and “Modern Family” (#3: 3.6/ 6 at 9 p.m.) into a clips and bloopers edition of “black-ish” at 9:30 p.m. (#3: 3.3/ 5). An encore of the pilot episode of “American Crime” capped off the night for the alphabet net with a 2.0/ 3 at 10 p.m., which trailed the “Chicago PD” second-run by 37 percent.

Needless to say, ABC is considering moving “The Goldbergs” into the Wednesday 8 p.m. half-hour next season. Stay tuned.

  1. OMG this Empire,phenomenal.
Cyber held well,CM and Survivor doing great.
Impressive AI is flat vs last week in HH.

    ReplyDelete
  2. THE 100 deserves so much better ratings.

I really hope this translates into 0,6. PLEASE rating Gods!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm shocked with Empire's numbers!!! Great for FOX!!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wow, Empire,just wow.

If Goldbergs rerun 8 does same or better than 8:30, it's changing time slots.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oh god how amazing are these numbers. I expected a 6.0 for the finale but it probably will be more than that!

i should start watching, i think

    ReplyDelete
  6. Empire is unstoppable.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The Mysteries of Laura is repeating very good.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 0.6 for The 100!!!! I believe it can happen!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Go the 100

    ReplyDelete
  10. 6 is the number of hope today!

I hope Empire breaks that 6.0 and that the 100 breaks that 0.6.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Empire breaks 6.0 1000% percent.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I argued for it in the past but right now I think moving the middle would be a mistake. The 8pm hour is harder to figure out in general than a bottom of the hour placement after Modern Family and with Empire on the hour almost for sure next season, the other networks should play it conservative and not throw new guns at the hour. I think ABC needs The Middle-The Goldbergs combo to stay in tact there. My answer would vary in a different year but with Empire there, I don't think they should do it. I think they should launch their new comedy post Modern Family and pair Black-ish with Fresh Off the Boat on Tuesdays. I think Black-ish is a bit stronger than we've given it credit for since Empire is really hurting it and it is still holding well, so it should be able to handle a transition to Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Top 25 Numbers have been added

    ReplyDelete
  14. Empire matched it's Top 25 rating from last week so it may not hit a 6.0 in fast nationals or officials,

    ReplyDelete
  15. Right now, Chicago PD is needed Wednesdays, but NBC really needs to think about placing it after The Voice one year. It's repeat ratings are fantastic and it's ready to explode in the ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 7+ For next weeks Empire finale?

    ReplyDelete
  17. CSI: Cyber held well, but against full repeat competition. If it drops even to a 1.7, then it's likely pulling a 1.5 when it faces Chicago PD.

That being said, I still think that it's at least locked for a Friday timeslot in the fall. CBS will not likely get rid of its last chance in the CSI franchise.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cyber is falling... And considering there were no new episodes of Chicago or AC I guess it's not so good... It's probably due to the bad criticisms...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Victor Hugo G. Soares12 March 2015 at 14:08

Please The 100 make me happy with 0.6

    ReplyDelete
  20. Patrick Ausgewahlt12 March 2015 at 14:10

A 6.0 would put it past every regular episode of Glee!

    ReplyDelete
  21. IM DEAD with Empire HH numbers. It s ure did 6.+ in the demo!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Where did you see the Top 25 from last week?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Empire is going to beat The Walking Dead next season XD

    ReplyDelete
  24. Predictions based exclusively on Top25 Numbers:
    - Survivor: 2.2-2.3
    - Criminal Minds: 2.2-2.3
    - CSI Cyber: 1.7

    - American Idl: 2.3-2.4
    - Empire: 5.8-5.9

    - Arrow (R): 0.3
    - The 100: 0.5

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think it did based on the top25

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't think it did based on the top25 actually.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nothing can stop the Empire beast, not even DST

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anyone know how many affiliates carried ACC/SEC basketball tourney? I know last year a few did.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe high 6s for second hour, but not for the two-hour average. The first hour will be impacted by early start. (It will make up some of that in L+SD shifted viewing.)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm gonna guess
    Empire - 6.0
    T100 - 0.6

    ReplyDelete
  31. It makes sense, but they would meed to do a two-hour comedy block. Fresh at 8, Blackish at 9. Else, comedies #7 and 8 are DOA

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why the intent on making Tuesdays with a two-hour comedy block if ABC has barely gotten a foot on the night with one comedy as it is?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Farewell Parks and Rec12 March 2015 at 14:36

The cookie monster is six feet tall!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Empire was amazing last night! And OMG That twist!!!!! Please hit a 6.0!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah I think the same

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hm? What do you mean? I am suggesting just two new comedies, Wednesdays at 9h30 and Fridays at 8h30. Maybe (just maybe) do a two hour comedy block on Tuesdays in January and Febuary for 8 weeks to sample new comedies (which happens to be the voice free portion of the year too). But not in the fall. They don't have depth for that and they need to work on their drama slate, which is older than the comedy one.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The 100 was so amazing. I'm glad the critics are praising it so much, all saying it's one of the best show on TV, period.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Depends on how many African American led dramas the networks are going to push on schedule all at once. Whenever networks crowd the market, all similar shows tend to suffer in the ratings due to overcrowding.

    ReplyDelete
  39. WTF Empire!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Survivor 2.2
    CM 2.1
    Cyber 1.8

    ReplyDelete
  41. CBS had a very good night.

    ReplyDelete
  42. TG: 1.2/1.2
    MF: 1.5
    Black-ish: 1.5

    ReplyDelete
  43. It was to contrast with their poor Tuesdays.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Winners: Empire, American Idol, Survivor, Criminal Minds

    Honorable Mention: CSI Cyber

    Losers: The 100

    ReplyDelete
  45. They repeated well

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yup. Especially blackish holding 100% of MF's lead-in.

Not too shabby of a performance.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I live in the heart of ACC and CBS usually carries all of the games. The CW sometimes carries local games but come Tourney time, it's all CBS. I don't know about other areas.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Empire might have fallen in 18-49, but it grew 0.3 to a 5.3 in 18-34.

    ReplyDelete
  49. My heart weeps for The 100. So underserved!

    ReplyDelete
  50. What do we think Blackish would have done if it was new?

    ReplyDelete
  51. It should've been able to do at least very high 1's.

    ReplyDelete
  52. All my hopes and dreams shattered

    ReplyDelete
  53. High 1s. It is doing quite well and it should improve easily once they remove Empire from the equation.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wave/ESPN carries ACC games and SEC has their own network where the games are shown until the championship game, though not sure what channel though, maybe Wave

    ReplyDelete
  55. We really ought to be thankful for the CW for renewing it in spite of this. Whatever financial model they are using for the show made it work. I think it will be three and done though, sadly

    ReplyDelete
  56. the 100 deserves so much better in the ratings great show

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hopefully Empire gets that 6 next week

    ReplyDelete
  58. I honestly think blackish is the real deal as far as post-MF's comedies have done. It has only dipped below a 2 once and it seemed to have been a fluke.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Victor Hugo G. Soares12 March 2015 at 15:09

Maybe The 100 goes to Friday

    ReplyDelete
  60. wth 0.4...The 100 is soooo underrated ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Also, the show hasn't even been able to hit with what should be one of its core audiences, African-Americans. According to Joe Adalian, the show hasn't even been making it to Nielsen's top 25 shows among African-Americans, which is a clear sign that Empire is hurting it (to put it into perspective, FOTB has been making it to that top and Blackish hasn't, which makes little sense other than Empire really putting a dent into it).

    ReplyDelete
  62. So last week Empire was a 4.2 and 6.2 and that =5.8. This week Empire is 5.3 and 6.2 and that= 5.6??? That doesn't make much sense to me lol

    ReplyDelete
  63. I hope it isn't! It only needs to get through season 3 and then it has the syndication benefit! As in season 5 it'll have 77 episodes, and that's enough for The CW as we've seen with Nikita and HoD

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am not sure if it will remain financially viable to have a Season 4 though. I hope so. I am honestly curious what the CW plans for it are.

    ReplyDelete
  65. It will be interesting to see how all the critical acclaim it's been getting affects the S3 ratings. It's not a show you can just jump into.

I wonder how many people during the hiatus might decide to catch up on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  66. We could say the same about Reign this season, and yet here we are, it has a third season.
    There's still hope

    ReplyDelete
  67. I thought there was overwhelming critical acclaim during the Christmas break this year after they killed off one of the main characters in such a brave way and all bu it amounted to nothing. There is more time for it to happen now but I am not sure if it will make a difference

    ReplyDelete
  68. Victor Hugo G. Soares12 March 2015 at 15:17

    DST

    ReplyDelete
  69. It will have more episodes during shorter time though and it has an advantage that the 100 doesn't which is being a CBS product. I am not saying there isn't hope, just that I don't think the picture looks very bright. But well.

    ReplyDelete
  70. What will be truly revealing is how it does on a new day and timeslot, because it's not staying on Wednesday

    ReplyDelete
  71. The same happened for breaking bad. For 4 seasons it was getting .5 and .6's, then a groundswell propelled it to 5 and 6 ;)

    Unlikely, yes, impossible no

    ReplyDelete
  72. Nothing else to say about Empire, cannot wait to see what it does next week. Cyber is fine but it should have done better against repeats.

    ReplyDelete
  73. lol the numbers makes no sense. I could see if the number were down for 18-34 & 25-54, but they were up in 18-34 and even in 25-54 this week. So mathematically speaking it should be either FLAT with last weeks 5.8 or up a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  74. NBC being in all repeats helped CBS. NBC's crime block is pulling some of their audience, so it will be interesting to see how it settles once NBC returns in originals.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Excellent example! I would soooo love if that happened. I don't know what would propel it though. But I would hope such thing could happen to this amazing show.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Right now there's no telling of what happens. For all we know it moves to Fridays and it does well there. Or it goes to midseason. Or it even goes to summer - I hope not! Such a long hiatus could kill it -.
Until The CW announces their upfronts we can't know for sure what will happen with the show.

This 0.4 is worriesome, but at least it is not representative of what the season did as a whole, with or without Arrow. It may as well be a fluke or a trending decline, the acclaim may get more viewers or it may now. We're seeing a true Schrödinger cat here; we can assume The 100 future results as both good or bad, but there's no way to have a clear picture of its future

    ReplyDelete
  77. Because they were down in overall 18 to 49, thus the 0.2 difference.

    ReplyDelete
  78. NOO The 100!! I'm so pissed right now!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I hope with all my heart and soul that The 100 can pull a BB here

    ReplyDelete
  80. You don't know that. Everyone was saying we wouldn't get a season 3 and look what happened. We went down because of no Arrow lead in, though last week we stayed steady so that was good. Everyone says BATB will get cancelled everyone season but it's renewed for 2 more.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Well hopefully when season is put on Netflix, it will help. They messed up this season but not putting season 1 on Netlix until ater seaosn 2 premiered. People didn't have time to catach up and then they didn't know ehere to watch the episodes of S2 that they missed.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Same here, I'm really bumped!
    I'll blame it on DST!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Creatively speaking though I am not entirely sure what the show has yet to do to propel that level of acclaim. Actually I am not entirely certain how to explain Breaking Bad anyway. But I would love for this to happen. Can you imagine if one day the 100 actually returned with a 5? The CW (and all of us) would die in shock.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Certainly; I'd be incredibly happy, but I think the shock may kill me if I see The 100 getting that high. Heck, doing 1.0 would already leave me out of breathe!
I think The 100 is on par with the cable fare quality wise; I'm going to make a campaign for an emmy nomination, because this show deserves a nomination at the very least

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thats how the WB does. Same happen with Arrow as i remember. Because WB wanted those DVD sales and delayed the netflix release until after the new season premiered.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I am just wondering where will they put it. Starting to think it wont be on fall schedule. And almost sure they wont keep the spot after Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I did see The 100 was preempted in some places yet again. Why??? People on twitter were saying they had to wait until 1am for it to come on.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Ouch The 100!!WTH!

    ReplyDelete
  89. EMPIRE didnt went up this time i as hoping for that 6.0. It will adjust up.
WTH are you kidding me The 100?, really! I hate those numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  90. DST in full effect across the board-EMPIRE scores 5.6 nevertheless.Kudos!

    ReplyDelete

  92. NO! YOU MUST ADJUST UP THE 100 WTH

    ReplyDelete
  93. EMPIRE-0.3 demo rise in the second half hour-nice!

    ReplyDelete
  94. What do you mean, many shows were reruns.

    ReplyDelete
  95. hum we can't really judge CSI Cyber's performance as it has no contenders this weeks (only repeats)... I guess we'll have to wait few weeks to knows if it can hold its viewers...

    ReplyDelete
  96. I meant this week numbers in general.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oh well, Empire fell from 4.4 to 4.3 in its forth week (or was it fifth?) and we know what happened the next weeks.. it could still get over 6.0 ratings next week.

  98. I think chances of being post arrow again are next to zero. On the fall schedule I say it is Fridays or nothing.

  99. CBS was pre-empted in 2.0% of the U.S. from 8-11PM for the ACC College Basketball tournament.

  100. I feel you, I too think I would have an attack if we were to see those type of numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Just wondering what show they could combine it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think it might end up on the summer schedule with B&tB and Reign.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I still don't get it. It is still dark long before 8 in many large markets.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Damn it.....the 100 :(

    ReplyDelete
  105. Again though, didn't 99% of everyone here say The 100 would be cancelled this season? EVen if it does happen, we got 3 seasons. Better than 2. There's also the possiblity of it being picked up by another network, since it's so highly prasied by ever critic and has a cult following.

  106. I hope The 100 adjusts up.

  107. I never thought he'd stay in the fall. They renewed all their fall shows. At the v ery least, 2 of them will have to be moved to make room for the new shows.

    Oh no the 100 :(

    ReplyDelete
  109. So sad for The 100!!! I hope it adjusts up!!!!

  110. Until last Wednesday I hated The 100, then I started watching, caught up, and it hits series low. pfff.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The 100 is the one CW show critics like Maureen Ryan, compare to Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. I wouldn't go that far but there are certain parallels and moments of writing genius that do deserve the comparison. It's a great show that I really wish more people took the opportunity to watch and then make the decision to like it or not. I really think it's handicapped by the CW and by the "teen" element. Which is a shame because these kids are no normal teens and the CW is NOT a teen/diva/richwhitegirl network anymore. They're slowly coming out of that stigma but damn it's hard.

  112. Didn't Reign and BATB get renewals with their whole seasons being 0.4 and 0.3's? The 100 is like BATB, low ratings but it dos great worldwide and has a really big online passionate fanbase. The 100 also does great digitally, always in "What's popular" on Netflix and itunes.

Just because it got one 0.4 this season, with no Arrow lean in, now you think it will get cancelled?

cW won't and shouldn't keep using thier second highest rated show as lead in for a underperforming vetran that can't keep half of Arrows audience, much like people say will move or should move. Due to only keeping half of VDs audience and getting 0.4-0.5.People say BatB will get cancelled due to its awful ratings but there are obviously non ratings we don't know about-like really strong international sales, doing well digitally-,cheap production costs,CWs obsioys desire to get to 70 episodes for streaming & syndication plus have a proper ending-that keep it getting renewed.CW moved TTP away from Arrows leadin when it was getting 0.4-0.5 ,it's very Likley the same will happen to The 100 and Arrow be used for anew show.

The ratings won't Likley go up next season and it's far from syndication and has always had soso ratings

  115. This numbers for The 100 hurts
but a least we survived the finale & nave 3d season

Reign is a cheap Cadain co -production that as a co production gets lower international liscening fees and has a third production company paying for it & may get tax breaks .Reign also dosent have SFX.

  117. The 100 :( hope it adjusts up! It was preempted again...

  118. Damn. Empire is insane. Taraji/Terrence r amazing so proud of them n the show is EPIC!!

  119. I think the confusion is that you assume Last Man Standing will be renewed, while I do not. What I meant:

ABC will presumably have five comedies working well (to an extent): The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, Fresh Off The Boat, and Blackish. Assuming all pretty much hold, they can be considered comedies #1-5, in terms of ratings ranked. Under your scenario, #6 will also most likely work being behind Modern Family, pending that they don't put Super Fun Night/Mixology 2.0 there.

Then what? They have two other new comedies to premiere and no spot to put them except Fridays, unless they go for two hours on Tuesday, which I was not meaning to suggest. Let me know if I should clarify more.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Ah, I hadn't understood you, yeah. But I still disagree with your basic premise. I think that if LMS is cancelled, which I don't think will happen anyway, but assuming it does, ABC simply places a reality hour (probably Beyond the Tank) with Shark Tank on Fridays and contracts comedy hours. Like I told you before, I do not see the situation of the Friday block being on the same boat as the situation of the midweek comedies.

Yay Jane beat The 100.Hope Reign ties it at least

    ReplyDelete
  122. Why the Yay? Are they both not renewed? As in no competition against each other, for any reason?

    ReplyDelete
  123. I think it is unlikely but i would go with these scenarios from most likely to least likely:
    1. Friday comedy hour is kept with LMS
Big gap in terms of probability
    2. Friday comedy block disappears
    3. Friday comedy hour is kept sans LMS with two new multi cams
    4. Friday comedy block is kept sans LMS with a veteran going there
