The Originals - Season 2B - Michael Narducci On That Tragic Death

E! Online: Um, I am so bummed about Kol's death. I have no words.
Michael Narducci:
Yeah, we're bummed about it, too. The moment we came to it was when we realized that in order to create stakes of what Finn was willing to do and the danger that he poses, someone had to suffer. At the same time, we've walked this line with Kol with being self-absorbed and manipulative and selfish vs. someone who actually is willing to behave in a way some would even call heroic. When Kol went into that bodega with the intention of helping Davina [Danielle Campbell] to rescue her friends, that was the most heroic thing we've seen from Kol. Kol had a real affection for Davina that was above and beyond his desire to get daggers and have a powerful ally. But doing that led to his death.

So is Kol really gone, or just Daniel Sharman's chapter of him?
I can't speak highly enough of Daniel's presence on set and his preparation and hard work, particularly for this episode. He's just an incredible actor who did so much for this role. We're sad to see him go. But at the same time, the Kol, in his hands, has evolved. We've seen Kol as a witch, and through Nathaniel Buzolic, we saw Kol as a vampire.

Now, in the wake of this departure, Rebekah [Maisie Richardson-Sellers] and Davina are both going to have an opinion about Kol's death. In the past, we've seen witches die and come back, like Davina or Papa Tunde or Bastiana or Genevieve. Is there a possibility that we haven't seen the last of Kol Mikaelson? That's a pretty interesting question. We certainly haven't seen the last of flashbacks that deal with Kol and his story and his family. In those ways, fans of Kol can rest assured that his story on The Originals is long from finished.

How is Davina going to be handling Kol's death going forward?
This is the second time Davina has lost someone she cares about. She's a relatively young woman and this is heartbreaking for her. She'll have a definite perspective about it and a desire to try and take charge and do something about it via the spirits of the witch ancestors that are very much present in our show. Will we see Kol again as a ghost? Will Davina try to reach out to him and resurrect him the way she did with Mikael? Is there anything she can do to make up for this terrible tragedy?

But at the same time, what happens when life gets in the way of that intention and you have to choose between trying to save the guy you care about from death and the very scary presence of new and dangerous things coming to New Orleans? Do you protect the living or do you try to save the dead? That's going to be her big dilemma going forward.

  2. Agreed.

But I also like the actor playing Finn...just not fond of Finn as a character...

  3. Considering he left Teen Wolf to join this show to die off after not even a full season? Its gotta be rough.

  5. As much as I loved his work here as Kol, hopefully this means a return to "Teen Wolf" for Daniel Sharman.

  8. Unfortunately I agree. But maybe there is hope because he was such a big part of the show.. and many people were sad when he left..

  11. This was so sad it made me cry. I was a fan of Davina and Kol and Elijah and Haley I was happy that his whole family was by his side (almost his whole family). I thought maybe Davina would go after Finn or join Klaus and Elijah. Kol did not get to see Hope

  12. so do you think Kol's death will make Davina finally join Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah to take down finncent?

  13. Narducci... Will we see Kol as a ghost?, ehm, sorry. Other Side was destroyed!!

  15. If magic is supposed to draw Dahlia to New Orleans, then the witches will probably be in just as much danger as the Originals. At the very least, Davina might feel torn between her desire to resurrect Kol and the need to devote her time to protecting Klaus' bloodline. I can see Kol's ghost telling Davina to forget about him and protect her friends. A selfless Kol is what Kol fans have been screaming for. Rebekah will also have to spend her time trying to help Hope control her power, which won't be easy considering that Hope is a baby. Hope was probably crying because what she did scared her as much as the danger around her. I don't believe we'll see Kol again except in flashbacks or in spirit.

  16. I've read Sharman wanted to try different things. I think he didn't want to stay for so long.

  17. Fans haven't been begging for a selfless Kol. Most of us have been begging for a badass strong Kol. Though loyalty is good. But I think he would still do anything to come back. He wouldn't tell Davina to let go.

  19. Please, resurrect Kol! He's a great character and I already miss him. He has evolved a lot and it's not fair that he died because he did a heroic thing.

  20. I have to say that listening to this guy do his weird "English" schtick was sometimes very painful.
Does anyone think this dude will end up on the Flash? He seems to be making the rounds of supernatural/sci-fi shows.

  21. But the Limbo for New Orleans witches is still there. So it's not impossible

  22. but without the Other Side.. is there a spirit world? makes no sense.. witches spirits are supernatural creatures.

  23. That would be interesting. Just read that on Saving Hope that Joel gets killed off no season 4 for Daniel Gillies. I only watched that show because he was on it. But happy dance for the originals. Now no Alex and Joel and Haley and Elijah in angst. Did read Haley and Elijah are working together because of Klaus out of control and wants to kill Jackson let him kill him Elijah. Someone said that Jackson a nice guy Haley deserves him make me barf he is boring and a wuss he could not take klaus how is he going to protect Hope and Haley. Elijah is the nice guy what woman would not want him. I cant stand Jackson and Haley together
