Instead, it's more of a review with little parts of a recap to connect the dots. Remember, if you want to see the show renewed, be sure to read this campaign article and sign this petition!

'Awakening' Review

You guys don't understand how much of a huge relief it is when an episode you have an advanced screening of has aired. Especially this kind of episode where so much happens (well, more towards the end) and I end up having huge, conflicting feelings that I can't tell whether I loved it or not. I really did enjoy this episode and it had some great, great moments, but there's some things that bother me and I need to get through them and talk about it with you lovely viewers so I can work through those feelings before the finale next week.

ACT I - SOMETHING WICCA THIS WAY COMES

The main problem Abbie and Ichabod face in this episode is the looming threat of thousands of coven descendants being awakened by the Liberty Bell. We start the episode with Abbie and Ichabod in a library, a very quiet start to what turns into a hell-ride of an episode. I loved that Abbie compares Ichabod to Marty McFly and we can still get those nice little moments in before shit hits the fan. It really is a shame they couldn't have taken books from the Fenestellar before they blew it up and I'm pretty sure they could have grabbed a couple before they left. It also makes me sad that libraries are becoming obsolete but it's a growing problem and I digress because that's not relevant to this episode haha, but yes it makes me sad.

"We should refrain from spoiling the ends of motion pictures! Thank you Rosebud."

We then get to three separate people who each go through something stressful - one person tells the woman that he spent every cent they had, one gets ran over but the driver is shouting at them because he wasn't looking and one is at a funeral home. The crazy white demon eyes come back that first made its appearance with Katrina in Spellcaster. I don't know about other people but they remind me of Lilith from Supernatural. Alas, Henry's spell didn't really work as only three people were affected, something Abbie and Ichabod get wind of from Reyes. Speaking of, why is she never in this show anymore? She hasn't been in it for a few episodes now and she's only ever spoken of, never seen. Budget cuts? I dunno. Our Jenny comes out of nowhere to tell Abbie and Ichabod about Irving and what he's done, that he got her to get his family out of town before the Evil Irving takes over. I love that they are incorporating elements from past episodes to help out, like the Gorgan's head.

It really does feel like a normal episode when Abbie and Ichabod go to the town square. More connections to the past are brought forward and we see a couple of flashbacks, one including Andy Brooks who I've pretty much missed on the show. Ichabod's amazing deduction skills lead them to the Liberty Bell and a revelation that Ichabod cracked the original. Abbie honestly doesn't know how to take that and I love that. Cue the amazing opening sequence that never gets old. We are treated to a flashback to Ichabod acting like a ninja by creating a diversion so he could destroy the original bell. We first see the decoy dummy technique that ends up saving Abbie's life later on. Ichabod and Abbie find that if the bell rings, thousands could turn into witches which would have been an awesome, Walking Dead-esque moment for the show but it's a shame it didn't live up to that potential.

The trip to the department store was very enjoyable. Especially when Ichabod picks up the Garden Gnome with a bopping head and starts bopping his head along with it. I honestly would watch a whole series of just Abbie and Ichabod shopping. Ichabod's reactions and what he would come out with would be television gold. "Sometimes old school is the best school." Love that line so much.

ACT II - THE THREE CARD TRICK

Last we saw of Katrina, she was visited by Henry in her dream before he gives her a black rose. Now, she's using blood magic to find her son who she thinks is still alive. The door opens and at first I thought it was Ichabod and I was thinking "oh shit she's so caught" but it turns out it's Henry. She echoes what he told her in her dream, about Henry killing Moloch to save her life, and he confirms it, saying "I have so much to tell you." I don't know what but you really can see that Henry loves his mother here. He takes her to his home which honestly looks so much nicer. Katrina hesitates believing her son after everything he has done, though Henry explains he was misguided and it was Moloch's apocalypse that was coming, not his. Now he doesn't want destruction, he wants to bring their coven to fruition with his mother's help and gives her the Grimoire. He speaks of the end of witches being hunted and they'd be able to live in peace with mother and son at the center of it. "We can't do this without you mother". Okay. So when I first watched this part, I was pissed that Katrina would be so easily persuaded. Another watch and I can see that Henry really manipulates her ambition to be a good mother to a son she has lost numerous times.

Night falls and thus the true horror of the episode is going to unfold. Ichabod, Abbie and Jenny knock down a wall to pull the Bell through but a red dot is noticed by Jenny. I discuss the Jenny and Irving parts in Act IV so be sure to read my thoughts on their moments in this episode. Henry and Katrina show up and here begins the descent. I thought, you know what, the whole awakening the coven thing isn't really evil if they just want some companions to cast harmless spells with and brew love potions. I can totally get on board with a Sleepy Hollow full of witches as long as no one is harmed, so what is the harm? But that line, when Katrina says "we are the innocents that have been wronged" just left a sour taste in my mouth. That does not sound like Katrina at all. Yes, witches have been as victimised as any other minority group in existance but Katrina never believed in hurting innocents. Katrina wants witches to reintegrate into society after Washington promised they would be. Ichabod pleads with the reason within Katrina and says she is just doing this as guilt for failing as a mother - words you should never really say to a mother to be fair haha - but Henry tightens his grip on Katrina.

"I am sorry it took me so long to see the truth: the idea that a mortal man and I could truly make a life together."

Those who wanted to see Katrina and Ichabod split up got their wish with that line. That was Katrina basically divorcing her husband in that very moment. After nearly two whole seasons of Katrina and Ichabod being so infatuated with each other, with Ichabod risking his life time and time again to save her and she spent two-hundred years in Purgatory for him, that's how they end it. I'd have been fine with this if there was some build-up to it. Instead, it came completely out of the blue and it become a total 180 on Katrina's character. Know what that is? Shoddy writing. We all knew the writers would eventually do this but it's happened out of nowhere and I just can't process it. I'd have totally been for it had this moment been built up to. I understand Katrina not feeling like she belongs in that time but seriously, that's it for Ichabod and Katrina? In basically 10 minutes she went from lovesick wife to I-couldn't-care-less-if-I-killed-you-right-now ex-wife. No. I don't buy it. It stinks of desperation of the writers wanting to satisfy the masses. I honestly would have been fine with this but due to poor writing, I cannot get on board right now. I always love when she uses her powers and Henry bricking Ichabod and Abbie inside the wall was pretty cool.

Abbie is sweet though, trying to rationalise Katrina's thinking, wondering if Henry cast a spell on her. It would have made sense if he did but he didn't, instead this new Evil Katrina came so abruptly it would have anyone think she's under the influence. One good thing that has come from that confrontation was that Ichabod will not hesitate to dispatch his own son should the time come - this was something he should have done long before now but fortunately, we have Abbie and Ichabod completely on the same page. "I'm glad I'm not in this alone." We officially have returned to that unbreakable bond Abbie and Ichabod shared in the first season. I have missed it and this has definitely been building for a few episodes now so at least it didn't come out of the blue.

ACT III - THE SPIRAL EVER DOWNWARD

At least we get some more insight to what the hell is going through Katrina's mind - it's not about power or being evil or whatever, it's about her son. Regrets. I'm not a mother, obviously, so I can't fully understand her logic. Would she really choose somebody like Henry, her "son" who she hasn't known or loved nearly as long as her husband? Could someone enlighten me if this choice is logical? Ichabod shows up and shouts for Henry from outside. All he needed was a boombox playing a love song for this scene to be totally great though. Henry says he will take care of Ichabod and they touch hands before he leaves, something else that totally pisses me off. We know Henry wouldn't be successful in killing Ichabod or anything but Katrina lets him, even sort of encouraging him by touching his hand. That really pisses me off, Katrina would have never done that.

The Ichabod and Henry stand-off begins, with Abbie as back-up. Very nice. We start with the one problem Ichabod has never overcome - violence to his only son. But Ichabod shoots and he shoots to kill. Ichabod shows he wasn't bullshitting when he said he was standing with Abbie before. But of course Henry stops the bullet. We see Abbie get back in the car when Ichabod and Henry talk through their issues. "I did not abandon you Henry... I did not know you existed!" No truer words so why is Henry so intent on his hate for Ichabod. The world would have been a happier place if Henry just accepted that fact but he's too proud. "You cling to the past like an angry, unruly child." Yes. This! The car Abbie was in speeds towards Henry and we see Katrina arrive by stopping the car - then blowing it up. I mean, this was a totally bad-ass scene had what come before it not fuck up her character development. I just can't imagine Katrian would have no quarrel with killing Abbie just like that. She can't! She would save her son, yes, but if she thought Abbie was in that car and blew it up anyway, that's pretty unforgiveable. What my hopeful little mind is thinking is that Katrina knew she wasn't inside it but stopped the car anyway because it was about to run over her son? Maybe. Like a lioness protecting her cub. Surely she would have seen nobody was driving the car. She just looks so unfeeling. She speaks with Ichabod that her course is noble and Ichabod asks the question we're all asking - "how can you disregard all that you were?" Henry realises the car was a decoy and our sneaky, smart little Abbie has planted the bomb on the bell inside the bell tower. We knew she wouldn't die in that car explosion but it was still a bit of a shock to the system. Henry stops her but doesn't see the bomb.

Both Ichabod and Abbie are tied to a stake (poetic justice to the witches) while Katrina and Henry are ready for the incantation. The line Katrina says "why stop with Sleepy Hollow when we can have so much more?" made me initially think on first viewing that the power had went to her had and she wanted world domination, but now I understand it's to awaken all witches regardless of whether they live in Sleepy Hollow or not. I just hate how Katrina just doesn't give two shits about Abbie and her husband now. Just no. But fortunately Katrina and Henry didn't think to check them for weapons. Abbie said they were weaponless one minute, yet she has something to break free with in her pocket. Katrina and Henry are the worst hostage-takers ever. While they try to escape, the bell begins to ring and we see people in the town start to turn into witches, including that lovely librarian at the beginning.

The one good thing to come from the car blowing up is that it revealed Henry is mortal. "Duty above all else", Ichabod says. Katrina chose her son yet Ichabod chooses his role as a Witness. After all Henry has done, it's clear why. Ichabod shoots at the bell but Henry stops it. Abbie takes her shot at Henry and BULLSEYE! 100 points to Gryffindor. I can't tell you how relieved I am that Henry is dying. I love John Noble and I thought maybe if he was given a redemption arc I'd want his character to stick around but all he's done is drove a wedge between the main characters and it's clear he does need to go for the show to move past this whole ordeal of Season 2. That's not to say this scene isn't touching, because it is. "This coven means nothing without you," Katrina tells him. It's sweet that he wants the name Katrina originally chose for him - Jeremy. Ichabod kneels beside him and Henry seems to be happy to be surrounded by his family. They share a moment and Henry's last word becomes "father". He vanishes as he dies.

ACT IV - A GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE

Jenny delivers in this episode. She's spontaneous and jumps on the offence even when Abbie pulls her back. When Irving attacks them, Jenny doesn't just let him. I love the little shootout between the two characters we ultimately root for. It's pretty intense as we don't really want either to bite the bullet (a-thank-you). They take a break and Irving wants to know where his family is - "and next time I shoot to kill." Surely that's a hollow threat since if he kills her, then he'll never find out where his family is. But it was a very scary line and a scary thought to think Irving could kill Jenny. It would definitely be a horrifying moment. But Jenny is stronger than that, she stands up and shoots Irving a few times. I honestly thought they would have been fatal shots, but because he's not quite human, he's totally immune. I did sigh with relief. Also, Irving looks amazing in his ninja outfit.

It gets a bit scary when they're in the tunnels under the Archives. I feel this is a bit of a missed opportunity though as they could have made this scene so scary. Remember Gale's chase in Scream 2? Could have made it like that. Jenny makes it to safety and gets the Gorgan's head ready, looking through the glass to Irving. It's a great moment as they talk and Jenny has that head in her hands. You can tell she doesn't want to use it against him but she's delaying it. Irving reveals witchcraft is in his wife's and daughter's blood which was a nice little revelation, I did not know that.

Once Henry is dead, Irving falls to the ground and a black smoke escapes his mouth. I am so bloody relieved Irving will finally be back to himself. For too long he's been missing from this show as his true self that I really have missed him. Jenny hesitates believing him, as she should, but she finally puts the Gorgan's head away and goes to him. She isn't one-hundred percent sure it's really him but she goes out anyway, risking it because she truly cares for him. The happiness on both of their faces is a relief and it makes me relieved too. They could have done more with Jenny and Irving in this episode but if they had of, we would have been distracted from the main issue at hand.

ACT V - WELCOME TO SLEEPY HOLLOW

Now for the final act. Henry is dead and Katrina is pissed. She actually scares me when she stands up and attacks Abbie and Ichabod. Katrina blames Ichabod for her sorrow, and because of him she was not there to raise her son. She says some truly awful stuff to him, saying she should have let him die. Honestly, this is scary stuff and Katrina looks furious and deadly. She tells him she won't let it happen again and uses the Grimoire to summon that Time Door we heard of a few episodes ago. The scene is pretty gripping and intense and I don't know where to look. Abbie stands up and runs to Katrina. She grabs hold just as Katrina disappears with the time door. Both women in Ichabod's life leave him in the present while we take a little trip into the past. It's interesting that Ichabod shouted out for Abbie - we see here that Ichabod is definitely more concerned about her than Katrina. After what Katrina has done and said in this episode, it pains me to say it, but I do not blame him.

We're now outside with Abbie. She isn't with Katrina and her mobile phone just doesn't have the service she needs. Damn. She leaves the trees to a main road and here we get those parallels to that Pilot episode when Ichabod arrived in our time. It's actually really beautiful and such a rush to see this happen but with Abbie this time. The first sign we are in the past is a horse and carriage that almost runs Abbie over, much like the car in the Pilot with Ichabod. That sweet, sweet music starts and Abbie begins to walk away and we pan to an old sign of Sleepy Hollow. Definitely in the past. Just to clarify, I LOVE THIS SHOT. Katrina finds herself in a hospital tent and, unlike Abbie, is in different clothes. I'm guessing she has inhabited her past self whereas Abbie doesn't belong in that time so she's herself.

Speaking of Abbie, as we approach the end, we see just how bad this situation is for her. She has now seen it's 1781 on a declaration and she sees everybody is looking at her. She's stopped by two guards asking for papers. "I must have left them in my sock drawer, you know how that is." Even in the face of this kind of situation, Abbie still manages to get in a damn good joke. The men act awful towards her and we understand why, even Abbie does. They're being historically accurate so the attitudes toward Abbie are bound to be disgusting. I feel unclean watching this. "This is wrong on so many levels." They take her to a cell and Abbie says she can change the course of the war. That's one of the good things about going into the past, something I've always wanted to do, to use my knowledge from the future to change things. That would be awesome. I love this sort of plot point in this show. Abbie will only talk to Ichabod Crane and that's where we end our episode.

Episode Verdict

First the good. I loved that Abbie and Ichabod are 100% on the same page and they work together in the best way they've had in a while. I am also totally glad that Irving is back to his old self and he and Jenny had some great scenes in this episode. I loved the ending by going back in time and having Abbie separated from present day Ichabod and promises some adventures with the past Ichabod. That is surely going to be an amazing treat. Henry dying means we are moving past the Crane family drama and once the finale is resolved, I'm sure some of the nightmare that was Season 2 will be over and we can start fresh. And can I just say the ending with Abbie and the parallels to the pilot were amazing.

I did enjoy the episode but the whole crappy direction they've taken Katrina dampened my enjoyment. I was totally on board for an Evil Katrina arc but the way they've written it, especially in this episode, made some of it unwatchable. I would have believed her when she said her mission to bring about the covens was moral and she wasn't going to hurt anyone anyway, she just wanted to do this with her son to bring back the witches. But the things she says and does makes that totally contradictory and in doing so, it undermines everything she has stood for in the past, everything that her character is about. I loved when she turned angry after Henry's death and went back in time but her resentment of Ichabod before that was unjust. She never would have said those things.

It became clear in this episode that the writers chose to listen to the masses by ruining Katrina's character. Everyone knows, since my controversial preview of Spellcaster, that I'm a fan of Katrina. This episode made me question that and I hate that. I hate feeling this mixed about someone who I really did like and enjoy watching. At the same time though, I like that she went ballistic after Henry's death and brought her and Abbie back in time. It's going to make one hell of a finale that I worry about.

I feel a bit mixed but I know I liked this episode. I just wish things were handled better and the whole Evil Katrina was more built up to instead of her doing a complete 180 in this episode. I do apologise if I talked too much about Katrina but seriously, it's messing with my head now. I do comment on a lot of stuff in my full review above if you read that to get more of my thoughts on the entire episode. Other than that, Abbie really shone in this episode and the separation from present day Ichabod is probably what she needs to move forward in this finale. The thing I look forward to most in this finale will be to see how Abbie and Past Ichabod interact. Man I can't wait.

  1. I just don't know what to expect in this finale coming up, this episode has set it up so brilliantly. I'm hoping by discussing my frustrations with this episode, the whole thing will become clear. Any thoughts?

  2. I absolutely agree about Katrina: this was too fast and unbelievable. I think they may have put a fail safe in her pricking her finger on the rose: it seemed there was magic there. Many shows listen to twitter etc instead of working out what is best for the show. The actress had nothing to do in the first season and they wasted her in the second. I enjoyed her outburst which showed the character has passion and what the actress can do. It would be good if they teamed her up with Abraham in the past. This is an opportunity to reset the story. Perhaps have her marry him. I did want them to save Jeremy and have a happy life in the past as an end game but the writers continually mess up a unique show.

  3. Glad I'm not the only one thinking it was too fast and unbelievable. Some of it I could have believed like the whole coven thing and wanting to make things right with her son, even going back in time as she felt she didn't belong in the present, but the things she said to Ichabod and blowing the car up was so out of character it dampened the rest of it. I agree as well with Katrina's outburst - that would have been the best part to start off her resentment of Ichabod and Abbie but having her say those things beforehand when Ichabod had done nothing wrong to her was just poorly written.

I can see how the show can reset itself and they can leave Katrina in the past with Abraham and Jeremy, but Katrina can't have her happy ever after if Ichabod is to be saved by her which ends up with her in purgatory. So there's no option really but to stop Katrina so either she dies or she will return to the present day reformed and maybe that rose did have something to do with it. I don't believe there's any coming back from what she said and did in this episode and it's hard to see how they'll move forward with Katrina with them, so I fear they're going to just kill her off in the finale so that "problem" is fixed. At this point, either Katrina dies or Ichabod dies when he is supposed to and is never resurrected hundreds of years later.

  4. Has this show been renewed yet?

  5. I actually disagree that the dissolution of the marriage part, at least, was fast. That's been building all season long. Ichabod has been nothing but uneasy around Katrina (that scene where they're watching TV? Could he have BEEN more stiff and uncomfortable?). He tried, good lord he tried, and he played the doting husband, and he said all the right things, but it all rang false, and I think he knew it. That scene at the end of the date/painting murder episode seemed like a breakup conversation, to be honest.

As for her turn to evil, I don't know about that, either. I think there could have been magic involved from the black rose, but even if not, Katrina has been nothing but consistent in her guilt about Henry and her NEED (way more than a desire) to redeem him. It went beyond all reason and credulity, and tip-toed into mental illness territory. So when she went full-on crazy when Henry died, and blamed Ichabod (poor Ichabod, always being blamed for things that happened as a result of him being buried alive--something he had absolutely NO control of!), that didn't really come as a surprise to me, either.

  6. No word yet unfortunately. There are campaigns to save the show but no word. I have a feeling the show will still get renewed but I'm not 100% sure.

  7. You made a lot of good points. The scene that bothered me most was Katrina's basically I divorce thee, I divorce thee, I divorce thee kind of moment with Ichabod. It just makes no sense as they had both wanted so desperately to reunite. But I what I remember most of all are Katrina's past speeches about standing up to evil for so long, sort of her life's work. Talk about scaredy-cat men in suits bullying writers into trying to please a certain unpacifiable fan contigency. There were great moments, as you mentioned. Loved that shot of Abbie walking down the road behind the ye olde Sleepy Hollow sign. And I hope Ich always has enough batteries. All these scenes in old libraries and book stores hit me with the realization that one day these may only be displays in museums. I want to cry. Anyway, next week's episode should be amazing and I wonder if we will see what is happening both in the past and the present. Thanks for the insightful read.

  8. It's just with what Katrina was saying to Ichabod and how uncaring she was when she said it. She's the kind of character who has shown compassion against the Headless Horseman and other villains but when it comes to her husband, she doesn't flinch. She seems so vindictive in the way she says it too. And she said those things to him before Henry died. She spent over two hundred years loving him and then... nothing. I understand that they have grown apart and this season for sure, and I see that it was coming. They have been distant with each other and there hasn't been much love there, but I just hate that she ripped his heart out and wasn't even sympathetic in her delivery. He's done so much for her, she could have been more gentle. He had done nothing to harm her, but when she does turn against him when Henry dies, that I understand and can totally get behind. I just wish they kept that unfeeling break-up until after Henry died instead of before so it felt more natural. But this was coming and that's not what I'm upset about, I'm just upset that they turned Katrina from this woman who wears her heart on her sleeve to being heartless altogether before she should have been.

I do hope the black rose has something to do with it but even so, there's just some things you can't come back from. You are right about her consistency of guilt with Henry and that's one of the reasons I believed that she wanted to raise the coven with him. I totally got that but it really was just the murder of her love for Ichabod that made it a bit unbearable for me to watch. And yeah, poor Ichabod, if they had of just went to family counselling I'm sure they could have avoided this whole thing.

  9. Yes! Totally, that divorce thee scene is the only thing that truly pissed me off, as well as not caring if she killed Abbie in that car explosion, but if they had of removed that divorce thee scene I would have been on board for that bad-assery. It just tarnished Katrina's reputation as being sympathetic and caring, drawing her magic from the Earth because she's supposed to be that beautiful person inside. But just like that she pushes her husband aside who she has fought for for 200 years. That just irks me and so it leaves a bad impression, even though I can get behind the other stuff in the episode.

Oh gosh, I dread to think of the future for libraries. I admit I only go to the library for my studies but it's comforting to know they're there. Makes me want to cry too. Despite the parts I didn't like, I am still so excited for this finale too. So much is at stake! And thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts, love hearing them :D Can't wait to talk about the finale with you next week, gonna be one hell of a ride, I'm sure!

  10. Well, you know I agree about the Katrina character, with the exception of the "evil" witch direction. From S1 we were set up for this character to be a part of the team and the romance was, for some of us, a very enchanting and enticing reason to tune in, thought not the entire reason. The writers kept us waiting and waiting for this character to join the team and be an incredible asset, but we were presented w/ a damaged character used for nothing more than a means to a very disturbing end and he character along w/ the actress had a hard time because of it. I would never pair Katrina w/ Abe. That would surely turn back the clock on women's rights. Let's face it, Abe was an inflated character to say the least. He made Crane look patiently humble. But, as I have no voice in this, I can only hope the writers will return Katrina's sanity and Crane's faith and end this chapter w/ those of us who loved Kat/Crane in mind.

  11. Thanks Gavin. I agree w/ almost everything you've said. I could do w/o Irving. Aside from that, I think you covered everything. Good job, my friend.

  12. I love the Evil Katrina arc but only if she would return good after it and rejoin the team. After what's happened in this episode, I believe there is no redemption and it makes me so, so sad. They could have done this a million different ways and they chose this way. The way that will only get her more hated.

I totally agree with you. I couldn't wait for Katrina to reunite with the others and become a valuable part of the team, but they sorely screwed that up. There was so much potential for a bad-ass main cast, all of them work together to fight evil but then, well, it just didn't happen. I did mention how the writers are just appealing to the masses but it's severely hurt some of us fans who have put our faith in these writers to handle their characters well. Especially the ones we love. So it pains me that they've done this. I do hope this will end well but I worry about what's going to happen in this finale now. Excited as I am about a lot of it, I still worry about what they're going to do with Katrina.

Thanks for reading and commenting as always, I love hearing your thoughts.

  13. Thanks very much Sandra, that means a lot :D I love this show so much I just want what's best for it and it pains me when I think they're going down the wrong path. I just hope the finale will restore some of that faith.

  14. One last thing - the writers went out of their way to have Ichabod say that Katrina's source of magic came from nature and was not blood magic or some such. Why bother making that a point if you know you are going to turn her so soon thereafter.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Exactly. I thought it was weird they brought it up in the first place unless it had a point. Katrina draws on nature, the Earth, all that is good like she is. I don't know if at this point the writers are just messing with us now because they don't care or if there's a point to all this. I'm hoping it's Option B.

  16. Well if you notice their relationship wasn't healthy..given all the secrets and lies that Katrina kept from Crane. A marriage is bound to deteriorate as a consequence.

  17. I am seriously shaking my head over this show....how on earth did Katriona become the big baddie on this show? It is simply cray cray! All in literally two episodes....She has completely disavowed her love for Craine seriously. Its kinda upsetting.....seriously. I wish the network kept the show at twelve epi's instead of moving to the eighteen. To me this shift has ruined the storyarch.

Hopefully the show will be renewed so that they can correct it for next year.

  18. can we pleasd stop with this pleases the masses and bullying nonsense because really the show is meant to earn viewers and guess what please the masses. I understand how loving a character and she not being popular sucks but lets get real Katrina was working for most and the only smart and logical thing to do is to correct that.

As for the show the writing has been misjointed all season you know what some of us have been complaining about but most Katrina fans were good with it as long as their fairytale romance was going strong. As for the family dynamics that was doomed from the start and there have been nothing but hints peppered in for the whole two season.

finish this after i get to work

  19. Agreed, however....to have such a turn around, soo quickly, with little lead up.....Dunno...IMO could have been done better.

  20. Definitely agree with the guilt being her moral compass. I thought at first the summoning the coven thing was just to awaken people's true potential as witches, I mean the spell was only going to awaken their powers but what I didn't think of is that the whole thing would be dangerous with so many people with powers. I did say at first that's what I thought it was, that Katrina just wanted witches to fit into this world, but Abbie was indeed right about it.

I do look. I have watched the show and I don't ignore stuff like that. I knew the eventual split was coming. She has kept things from him and Ichabod has neglected her a lot so it isn't quite one-dimentional or one-sided. I agree though, it turned into a wtf and the writing could have been stronger to show that love there but it's been missing for a long time. That's not the point I've been trying to make though, it's just to have 2 people who loved each other as much as they did and fight so hard to reunite to end up having Katrina, completely uncharacteristically, tell him she wants nothing to do with him anymore. I mean, surely you can see my frustration with that? I knew it would come but it's been handled so poorly and there was no emotion when there should have been that it's kind of hard to accept. I hope the show can just move forward though because I want to forget some of what's happened.

  21. I think most of us knew that it would be Henry meeting his end during this episode, but I never envisioned it like that. What an episode it was! While I'm not a Katrina fan, I will admit that the evil turn felt a bit off; it should've felt organic, not like a fan service...but I'll take it any way I can get it :) The writers missed an opportunity to make Katrina a real character by not making her the big bad reveal at the end of season one. The setup was there w/ her being in purgatory for hundreds of years--how was she not influenced by her environment, witch or not? My main gripe is that if they wanted to make her so relevant in season two, she should've been so from the first season. Changing it up didn't feel like the show was evolving but like it was turning into another show entirely. All of it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't this show. I do think Evil Katrina works much better and she did a fine job this episode.

What concerns me is the ultimate sacrifice the preview for the finale refers to. We flash in on Ichabod, Abbie, and Katrina. From the looks of it, Jenny and Irving aren't there, so I believe it will be among the three. We have yet to receive a renewal, and I'm worried the writers will go balls out and kill both Ichabod and Abbie as the ultimate Witness sacrifice. Of course, this is Sleepy Hollow so if renewed they can always fix it with magic, but at this point it doesn't seem that far-fetched. Ugh, the waiting. Does this constitute as torture? It sure feels like it. Of course, Gavin will know before any of us and implement his sadistic taunts until the episode airs ;)

  22. Hi Gavin, nice review. I was hoping that they wouldn't go the evil Katrina path, but in retrospect, I think it was the writer's intention to make her evil all along (and definitely by the start of season 2), which is why I'm not convinced that this evil arc had anything to do with the wishes of viewers, I also don't remember her character being that unpopular in season 1, but I could be wrong. Throughout this entire season, I had the feeling that if given the chance, Katrina would chose Henry over Ichabod, so that part didn't come as a surprise However, the part that really didn't make sense was her sudden callousness towards Ichabod. it would have made far more sense for her to remain conflicted about going against Ichabod

I don't know if the writers intended to make Katrina evil at the start of the series, but definitely by season 2, they started sowing the seeds. To me, the first indication that her allegiance was no longer to Ichabod was when she chose to stay in Henry's captivity rather than be with Ichabod in hopes of saving Henry. Then there were all the secrets that she kept from him, which to me, spoke volumes about the nature of their relationship. But I think that the biggest indications were all the things that the writers did not do with her character. They could have had her bonding more with Abbie, but instead, her character was always portrayed as somewhat aloof, even with Ichabod at times. We also never really got to see much of her reaction to living in the 21st century, which could have endeared viewers to her more. So yes, there was a subset of viewers that disliked her because they saw her as an obstacle to Ichabod and Abbie, but I also think that there was a subset of viewers who just found it hard to connect with her. And perhaps that's exactly what the writers wanted, which is why the writing for her character was so frustrating for many of us.

I'm not saying I like the way they went about making Katrina evil; I'm just saying that it might have always been their intention to do this all along. I think the writers could have done a much better job of explaining what brought about her sudden switch in emotions and I really wish that she had been more conflicted about hurting Ichabod and Abbie. At the same time, I really like this story twist with Abbie and Katrina going back in time and it has the potential for an interesting story on both Abbie's end and Katrina's end. I almost wish that they had done this earlier rather than having it happen at the end of the season. I wonder what effect it will have on the characters in the 21st century, especially Jenny and Irving, who really had a some great scenes together in this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Prior to Henry/Jeremy's death, I did not see an Evil Katrina. I saw a woman consumed by guilt who was presented with an opportunity to make amends and was willing to sacrifice anything and anyone for another chance. This includes potentially blowing Abbie up. I actually did not find this out of character for Katrina. Most of this season Abbie and Katrina were at odds and I think at this point, Katrina was done playing nice and nothing was going to stop her chance at a life with her son...soooo....when Abbie killed Henry/Jeremy, she snapped. IMO, this is when Evil Katrina emerged. Looking back at her life....Abraham becoming Headless, being abandoned and banished to Purgatory by her coven, losing Jeremy to Moloch and then again at the hands of Abbie....she fixate on Ichabod as the source of her suffering because in her grief and guilt, the only part she thinks she played in all of it was her decision to chose Ichabod - over Abraham and over Jeremy - and the only way, in her mind, to fix it is to go back and choose differently.

This show has focused a lot on fate - that try as one might, one's fate can not be altered. If the writers don't retcon that too, then I don't think Katrina will be able to significantly alter things. I don't think Katrina knows that Abbie came back with her and while Katrina may make the decision to allow Ichabod to die while she returns to Abraham and raises Jeremy, that doesn't mean that another witch in 1781 won't save Ichabod. Since Abbie is there, and her family line has witch blood in it, there is no doubt several others in 1781 Sleepy Hollow not associated with Katrina's coven who could perform the spell on Ichabod and send Abbie back to 2015. Undoubtedly, things would be different if Katrina really does make different choices but I think the only thing it would ultimately change would be who the horsemen were and who was bringing about the Apocalypse.

I'm cautiously optimistic about next week's episode. I really don't trust the writers to handle a story line where slavery is involved so I hope they wrap it up and bring Abbie back to 2015 by the end of the episode. I really do hope we get another season, if only to see what they have in mind for the reset that they have clearly been settin up at the end of this season. If we do get another season, I hope Corbin and Andy (normal Andy, not Moloch servant Andy) can return as series regulars.

Overall, I give the episode a "B+" (the + comes from the nice tie in to the pilot episode at the end).

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's exactly how I see it too. I began to question why she even married Ichabod? Was it just to win him as a prize? She hated him before this point so I never understood it. Really ticked me off the way she blamed him for everything, especially since she's the maker of her own misery. Not to say that her coven didn't play a part for putting her in purgatory, but I feel like a lot of it is down to her.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wasn't just speaking directly to you but to everyone who keeps on with the they are just pleasing the masses or they succumbed to the bullying. No I didn't contradict myself for I believe it is only logical that any one selling anything to the general public is going for the biggest selling point. If something is working you need to fix it regardless if there are a few who likes things the way it is. Let me point out that fixing doesn't mean killing her off.

The only 180 I saw coming from Katrina was in her love for Ichabod, I would have thought her to falter a bit with hurting him. As for everything else Katrina has been walking on that line since the S1 but I will admit that this was sloppy writing. Katrina going bad girl is the best thing for her character and she was doing her thing this episode. What I don't get is why can't she be the big bad, why must she be on Team Witness or fight on the side of good. Let's see if the character works in this position and play it for all that it is worth. There is nothing wrong with playing the villian, in fact I ansolutely love both Headless and Henry (minus the mess that was this season).

From what I have been seeing Katrina is getting positive responses in her new role. Let's ride this out, she doesn't have to die in the finale some of the most intense and best rivalries are between family members. This was one of the best if not the best episode this season, everyone get action and move the storyline ahead even with the clumsly writing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This in a nutshell, Katrina has always skirted the line and was capable of either remaining on one side or jumping to the other. By the way this is something that can happen to anyone of them giving the right circumstance. Abbie had her time of rebel girl, Jenny has been riding that line for awhile and Irving was doing his stint in the evil camp. Ichabod certainly has some anger issues. This is why I don't see this big 180, yeah poor reveal but acting as if this is something that came out of left field no.
Don't trust the writers at all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think this was always the plan. If you take a look at promo pictures of the witness reaching out towards one another and being wrapped up in vines if represents them against Henry/Katrina.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts, you made a lot of sense and actually made me feel a little better about the whole situation. I see what you mean about Katrina and Abbie being at odds, it still feels like she didn't flinch and she's always been that kind, sympathetic character, I thought she'd at least hesitate or show some emotion. If she blew the car up before stopping it, I'd think she was just saving her son, but she stopped the car without blowing it up first which would have been enough to save her son in that moment. But you are right about being at odds and I did love that moment, it was jaw-dropping, but still I just wish there was some emotion there, and especially when Katrina dumps her husband before that too.

You could be right about the other witch saving Ichabod instead of Katrina, but for some reason I just don't want to see Katrina go back to Abraham. I like the idea of her staying in the past to raise their son but if Katrina changes anything, even if it is so she can live her life happy, it would just change too much in the present day. I don't know how it's going to work so I'm going to be like you, cautiously optimistic. I'd love to see Andy back too :) And nice rating, that tie in to the pilot was a highlight.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thinking about it and discussing it, I see that a bit more, that Katrina was always sort of torn in between, and I understand her choosing to side with Henry but it's the delivery and writing in this episode with the whole Katrina/Ichabod thing that makes the rest of it feel too forced. I love that she snaps and she's totally right in doing so, I just wish they kept that break-up with Ichabod until then and have Katrina retain some of her kind-natured characteristics before that, even just a little, so it felt more like Katrina saying it and not some external entity. Totally agree with the things you say though, it just felt like a 180 due to the heartless break-up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I get what you mean now. And that 180 is definitely due to her heartless break-up with Ichabod. I do love her turning evil but that is one of my peeves with this whole thing, they sort of made her turn cold and evil before she really had a reason to - when Henry died. It would have felt more organic because I relate to her saying Ichabod is the source of her sorrow but she should have showed her more sympathetic traits before that, maybe been a little more hesitant in hurting Ichabod instead of going all out straight away.

I do hope this new villain thing will be perceived more positively and people who just flat-out hate Katrina will give this a chance. There is so much potential there I just don't want the writers to let us down. I did see people on Twitter reacting positively which was great but yeah, her sudden hatred of Ichabod was the only 180 I didn't fully understand.

Having said that, the whole turn is leading to a great finale as I love the Abbie going into the past aspect so she can interact with Past Ichabod. I've always wanted to know how that would go. Anything can happen at this point in the show and I'm both worried and excited :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah that's a big question and we wonder what the whole point was. Henry did say "there's so much I have to tell you" to Katrina before she breaks up with Ichabod so who knows what he told her? A lot of that blame was unjust and I do feel sorry for Ichabod - both his wife and son blamed him for things he had no control of. Just want to give him a big hug.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love that you think that of Katrina and are not hating on her just because she's against Team Witness now. Even though I've always wanted them to work together and be kick-ass (and maybe that could still happen in the future, who knows, as girl power with Abbie, Katrina and Jenny would have been awesome to watch) I do hope they at least make Evil Katrina as great as they can. It also reminds me of Morgan le Fey (Morgana) from the legend of Arthur and Merlin, who I loved as a villain despite her original allegiance with the good guys. But at least her descent was gradual and felt organic. I may have to rewatch all of Sleepy Hollow to maybe see if there is more to it.

I also hope Katrina wasn't just sitting around waiting to be rescued. 200 years in Purgatory has to do damage to the mind and soul. I also agree about the whole Abraham thing. I wish they could have incorporated the Headless Horseman better instead of having it be a drama love triangle. I used to be scared of him in the first season but now I'm just meh.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh yeah, I could totally see her coming out of Purgatory and then reveal she used them to get out and boom, she's the big bad instead of doing to her what they've done all season. It did feel off here but I did enjoy it when she snapped and went back to the past, that was awesome. You do have a point there about relevance, I mean she's always been part of the main cast but they sidelined her so much in the first season, the writers really struggled to incorporate her in the storyline this season. It showed at times, even though I wanted so badly for the entire cast of characters to be bad-ass together.

That ultimate sacrifice does worry me. I am unsure if they would kill Abbie and Ichabod in the one episode, even if the chance of renewal is dim. But I can see it too if they did, they sacrifice themselves to maybe save the future. I guess the sacrifice could also be Katrina, maybe the Evil Katrina arc will come to an end in the finale? So many different ways to go so we need to see this episode ASAP. It definitely constitutes as torture! I really hope we get the screener this week (we didn't for What Lies Beneath but we have for most episodes this season, including the premiere and mid-season finale) and I bet FOX will want hype so ratings increase so I'm hopeful we'll get a screener by the end of the week. Fingers crossed because not only do I want to ease my own mind that the writers will do this finale justice, but to also ease everybody else's mind.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can start to see the progression of her turning dark but you're right, the callousness towards Ichabod was totally uncalled for. That's why I wanted her to keep that break-up until after she snapped so her words have reason. The no hesitation was my problem with this. I am starting to realise Katrina tried to do so much to save her son this season, like choosing to stay in his captivity to also help.

You totally make sense there about the indications of her turning against them. I always just saw her not bonding with Abbie was because they were just two different people and it seems like you're right about the getting used to the 21st century part. Totally see how hard it was for viewers to connect with her after what the writers have been doing, so maybe it did all have a point. Maybe nobody was supposed to bond with her, including the viewers, but I ended up liking her so yeah, it's a little frustrating when you think you know someone. I'll get over that I'm sure but at the minute, I feel a little betrayed. I'm going to have a major re-watch and look for those hints.

I think a lot of people can agree the writers could have done a better job at setting this all up and I agree with every word you said there. I also do like the story and where it's heading, I can't fault that. I hope Jenny and Irving and future Ichabod work together as it would be a thing of wonder, while Abbie and Past Ichabod try and stop Katrina from preventing Ichabod's rebirth. It's going to be sooooo good!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It could. That would make sense. I think the vines represent anything that pulls Abbie and Ichabod apart, so it could refer to a number of things.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I really really love this show and its cast but whenever the screen flashes the credit for the team of famous, veteran, extremely talented creators and writers behind it, I cannot help but wonder how the story blips and potholes have been allowed to happen, given the pedigrees of the people behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like parts of it I didn't like what they did to Katrina I think the writer are changing it up to fast because of the people that don't like her and want her gone. Now depending on how they end this will depend on if I ever watch fox again. First the past Ichabod know nothing of what happened in the future because future Ichabod didn't go back and he not there because he didn't get put in an enchanted sleep. So is he just going to believe everything Abbie says and go to the future with her leaving his wife and unborn child behind, without trying to get her to become good again. So if he goes to the future with Abbie it will be back to square one with no memories of the future because it wouldn't make sense. I'm hoping they find a middle ground so all fan can be happy but i don't think that will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm glad I could make you feel a bit better! After reading everyone's comments, I went back and rewatched the episode and I agree - the emotion portrayed was off in the scene at the bell. I think it would have played better had they dropped the scene at Henry's when he said that Ichobod wasn't one of them and instead had Katrina try to sway Ichabod to their side and when he chose duty over family, it would have made more sense when Katrina chose family over duty..thus pulling the whole scene and what came afterwards together a bit better.

As for her trying to cook Abbie, that was a tactical decision I think. The Witnesses, particularly Abbie, would continue to try to stop them and killing Abbie would eliminate her as an adversary but it would also throw Ichabod off his game. Heartless, yes. But she chose her side in the war and for once, she wasn't wishy washy about the choice she made.

After the rewatch, it also occurred to me that Jenny could be the one to bring Abbie back to 2015. Stay with me here. The bell was ringing so feasibly, some of the witch blood was activated in Sleepy Hollow. Given Jenny's close proximity to the bell, it's possible that her witch blood has been activated (I wondered why Abbie''s wasn't since she was two feet away from the bell - cuz she's a witness maybe??) and once she finds out that Abbie got sucked back to 1781, I can see her trying to use her new witchy powers to bring her back. Long shot but it could make for an interesting S3 if Jenny is a witch (and we get a S3!). Guess we'll find out next week!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agreed. Katrina has always been wishy washy to me..she says she will help but when push comes to shove, she has always protected the enemy - be it Abraham or Henry. To me, she threw the fight with Kent too. I haven't trusted her since she was freed from Purgatory - 200 years in there has got to have some effect on a person!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah! I never thought about Katrina trying to sway Ichabod, that would have been good. I know Henry wouldn't have liked it as he just plain hated Ichabod, but I could have believed Katrina would try to reason with Ichabod even just a little.

I totally get your point about eliminating Abbie as her adversary and choosing her side. One thing I did love about it is that it was a great moment, even if her absence of emotion felt wrong to me.

Oooo, that's actually pretty brilliant! I would love that idea to come to fruition. It would give Jenny some more fire power going into season three as I'd hate for her to be sidelined with nothing to do. It would also help replace Katrina in their circle for that witchy-advantage. Man, there's so much that could happen, this finale really does feel like high stakes here.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is hard to believe a whole group of people didn't see the problems before. They are talented people and we know they can deliver so what went wrong? We may never know but maybe we will look back at this in a few years when Sleepy Hollow is (hopefully) in season 4/5 and think of Season 2 as just a necessary blip the writers needed to get their act together.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think Past Ichabod will go to the future with Abbie as then he wouldn't have went into his sleep in the first place and thus no Witness thing or anything, or there'd be two Ichabods in the future. This time thing is always a tricky plot device because there will always be holes as things cannot change too drastically without huge consequences.

What will happen is Abbie will get Past Ichabod to help her escape the cell, he will believe her with some hesitation and help her get back to her own time somehow. They can't remove Past Ichabod from his timeline.

I do hope they find that middle ground too so everybody can be happy. I hope you'll be happy with the finale :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I wish I shared your optimism that it will be renewed - just a natural pessimist here . I would do 3 jumps for joy though if it does get a renewal - maybe the network will think all the controversy makes it a buzzy show.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh I always see the good in things (partly why I related to Katrina was her sympathetic nature) but the one thing that does worry me is the controversy. Even though it has created discussions and it's become very talked about, it's not exactly been the nicest things said. I don't know if FOX will want to ditch their losses and cancel, or because they've stepped in to try and fix the show, they'll renew it so that those problems will really be ironed and start fresh. I'm assuming that's why we're having a sort of reboot with these last couple of episodes. But I'm thinking about FOX as a network in general and how its other shows compare. When you think its Tuesday comedy-line up stinks in ratings, new shows like Gracepoint and Red Band Society tanked and have been cancelled, and other veteran shows haven't done so well, it kind of helps its renewal chances. The Following has yet to premiere so depending on that show's numbers, who knows? I think as long as Sleepy Hollow doesn't dramatically crumble like Glee did, which was a very ugly fall from grace, Sleepy Hollow should be fine. I'm definitely an optimist though :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Let's hope there is an optimist and fellow Yolanda/Ichabod lover on the board at Fox.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with you past ichabod won't but in the future when Abbie gets back he will remember things from the past differently.

    ReplyDelete
  47. But how will Ichabod get to the future, Katrina might have second thoughts about being evil but I can't see her putting Ichabod in an enchanted sleep at the risk of losing Jemery and truth I don't think Ichabod would want her to make the chose over him or their son. The way the writer have messed up a lot with the writing this year not sure if they can pull it off. I know we will have to watch to find out, but I can't see away around it. Her coven won't do it because they were against in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah but you are forgetting that both Henry and Katrina derive their energy from the earth, and have an affinity towards plants. Henry always ties them to trees with vines and they same when he put Ichabod in the box. Katrina and the whole Mary issue used roots and vines. The use of roots, vines and plants by Henry and Katrina was shown for a reason, in the opening sequence katrina control the tree branches, why in S1 she mostly summoned Ichabod while in the woods.

The writers have been planted seeds for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love villians and the more complex the better. This is why at the end of S1 that Henry reveal worked so much. I was like Yassss Henry get your evil on, playing the witnesses like a fiddle. I couldn't wait for him to take care of business and Headless was all gun toting badass.

Never understood the need to redeem them at all, the story needs that division of good and evil. I know why they did it, to show the conflict and struggle with Katrina but it was so poorly done.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like the theory that another poster had above, with another witch doing the same incantation. Although it's possible that sacrifice will be katrina not going after henry like she plans to. Could be that in her doing what she's doing she messes up the little time she will have with Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's something that is going to end up changing everything. When Abbie returns to the future, I'm pretty sure everything will have changed since Ichabod would have then known Abbie from the very start and will then know Katrina has turned evil so maybe Abbie will return to the present day but a one where there's so much chaos in Sleepy Hollow because the past was altered?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Gosh, you're right, I did forget about Katrina controlling those vines. It makes total sense now. Honestly, I'm so glad to be discussing this episode and my concerns in the comments as things are definitely becoming more clearer. I like that little pun as well, 'the writers have been planting seeds' referring to the nature and trees again. I don't know if that was intentional, but brava! Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh my God, that Henry reveal rocked my world! I was like "whaaaat" haha, that was really good. If they had of done something similar with Katrina I would have had the same reaction instead of "wtf", ya know? Part of the reason of season 2 faltering was that the writers felt the need to redeem the villains like Abraham. I ended up caring a little for him and I didn't want to - I want to fear him. Now I'm not scared of the Headless Horseman at all :(

    ReplyDelete
  54. She is pregnant with Jemery if another witch does the enchanted sleep the Katrina would be able to raise Jemery, but the other witch could suffer the same fate as Katrina and set to purgatory

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm hoping they don't go that route. I'm hoping she goes back and basically its just crane's memories of past where the enchantment is concerned is changed. Also, his knowing that Abbie went back to stop Katrina.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't think that witch would, now that they know the consequences. For at least part of the episode, we know they change history and at one of the scenes others heard the future. I still think there was much more to her going to purgatory than that.

  57. No in season one the 4 that speak as one said that because she chose to interfer with fate and put Ichabod in an enchanted sleep instead of letting him die that was her punishment to be put in purgatory. I don't think it was for any other reason then that. She is hurt right now she feel Ichabod has chosen others then her and their son. All she wants is to have a chance to raise her child.

  58. When you think about it, it really was Katrina's love for Ichabod that ultimately doomed her, so her hatred towards him now is understandable but still, Ichabod didn't force Katrina to put him in that enchanted sleep. But now, with her going into the past, I can relate to her that she wants to make things right and have her own fresh start. I don't see anything wrong with that, but the only problem is that she'll let Ichabod die in the process and obviously the show won't let that happen. So she might be a villain right now but she's doing it for what she believes are the right reasons. I can get on board with that.

  59. I would prefer there be no drastic changes either but it's like the butterfly effect - mess with the past, even in the smallest of ways, there'll end up being a different outcome in the future. I think it would be interesting to explore if Abbie returned to a completely different present-day Sleepy Hollow. It would definitely be the reboot the writers wanted. They'd have so many possibilities to explore and maybe we'll have the Horseman being back to being bad-ass scary and Katrina a powerful witch.

  60. Yes I hope they don't keep her evil I know they made it that her and Ichabod can't have a life together, but I do blame him because he didn't even try to help her get to know the new world he left her alone to much. But I do hope sharpe gets a chance to raise Jemery. She she is she feel that she gave up so much for Ichabod and he is not there for her. She thinking she made the wrong choices and wants to go back and fix it.

  61. Oh yes, preach that. Ichabod barely spent time with her (that we saw anyway, the show doesn't show what they got up to 24/7 but we get the impression he was off galavanting while she was left out) when Katrina returned to him full time. We got one episode where they really stuck together and that was for their date night. I get that this show is about the Witnesses though - Abbie and Ichabod - but like Jenny they could have just made her more helpful to them and just showed some affection between Ichabod and Katrina instead of just words. I think we can all understand Katrina has gone back to fix things with her son.

  62. Yes, I understand that as cannon. But I have always believed there was more to it than that. It seemed stupid. If the witch's were truly helping the effort by helping Washington (as henry said) then really by putting crane into that sleep she shouldn't of been put in purgatory. Unless the witness's are interchangeable like the horsemen. As per Moloc, when he said to Henry there will be other horsemen of war.

Also, in the preview she's looking for Crane, but history was changed and he was never injured. So in that respect she wouldn't need to go after him to let him die. She could just go off. But, from what they are implying she is going to go after him anyway.

  63. But the thing is, is that all down to her love? I've always thought it was a bit of her love for Ichabod and his importance as a witness. I dunno, I just think the writers could of been a bit clearer in this aspect. I feel like there's so much more to Katrina's character that they could of written but didn't.

  64. I can't completely blame Ichabod though. Most of the time she was with the horseman or going back to him. So what time he did have was limited. So how can we expect him to show her the new world? Also would her time with the horseman not shown her any of the new world? Watching Katrina on screen I felt she blended into the modern world a lot better than Ichabod. She seemed so much more at ease.

  65. Yeah it was.
The writers had so much material to work with, they set up S1 with that finale so perfectly that S2 should have been smooth sailing. Don't know what happen but they seem to be trying to get their groove back.
Now, do you remember that doll of George Washington that was in the noose, I think it was in a crib. It was when Katrina summoned Abbie to her house when she was in Purgatory. It makes sense her anger with him now that I know about their reneged bargain.
I am going to do a major rewatch and really look at things now. Henry's birth always left me cold, those crows crashing into was a bad omen, did it symbolize the evil intent in Jeremy or Moloch's claim on the baby.

  66. I don't think so if he is not tied to the Horseman if he is maybe that witch makes that sacrifice. Yes I would love for Grace Dixon to be the witch that Abbie finds and convinces to do the spell.

  67. The witches and the masons were only going after her because Crane was linked to the Horseman. Kill Crane, kill the Horseman. Remember the Masons still wanted to kill Crane in the present.

  68. Katrina spent most of her time in the New World by her own choice with Abraham and her son. Katrina is a grown woman who makes her own choices and therefor is responsible for the consequences of said choices. Align yourself with the Horseman and Henry and you distance yourself from your Husband.

  69. After she returned to him full time Katrina was still working on and spending most of her time with Abraham, whatever that was about. Right after that Ichabod had the big separation talk and him moving out. I don't now how long it has been between date night and now but they aren't in this happy happy space and they both seem to be doing their own thing by mutual agreement.

  70. I want there to be some type of effect or what was the purpose. I love when Sleepy Hollow pushes it and goes bat-shit cray. Let Sleepy Hollow be completely different this time around, maybe Jenny and Abbie are more aware of their witness duties. Maybe Jenny can become a witch while Abbie is the witness. Bring back Purgatory and a better Moloch and Headless.

  71. No the masons what him dead because of the ties to the horseman. I re watch the golem and the witches told Ichabod that it was because she interfered with fate by putting him in an enchanted sleep. If she had told them where he was so the could undo the spell for him to die. They would of not put her in purgatory and could of raised her son. She went against everything her coven, child. Sorry but yes I think Ichabod was a jerk towards her and how is she to go Arendt a world that she knew nothing of.

  72. That's true, unless the only purpose is to leave Katrina behind in the past so they can start fresh in Season 3 without the whole Crane drama that most people claim has dragged Season 2 down. I sincerely hope I'm not right there and I would love an alternate Sleepy Hollow when Abbie goes back to present day because it would be so interesting to see how the smallest things in the past changed the future.

  73. Ooooo good eye. Now I remember, yes! I'm with you on that major rewatch. Might do it sometime during the summer and do a full analysis and catch-up of the show before Season 3 starts (if it gets renewed).

  74. Yes I do. I'm just saying that in the frame of mind that she is in right now, that won't matter.

  75. I agree. That's what I saw as well.
