New Girl - Review - "Oregon"

Guest stars Rob Reiner, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kaitlin Olson made appearances last night as Jess's dad decided to tie the knot in Orgeon on this week's New Girl. The conundrum this week followed the fall-out from Ryan not being able to make it halfway around the world for the wedding. The gang, as awesome as they always are and spear-headed by Nick, decided to take part in Jess's tour of her hometown. It was a nice gesture which made for some funny moments watching the gang run behind a bike taxi and seeing Cece melt like a teenage girl in front of a former crush who happened to be a firefighter.

The heavy moment of the episode came when Jess forgot the wedding rings. In that moment of seeing her father and soon-to-be stepmom dancing after the wedding was disrupted (more on that in a minute), was extremely sweet and a powerful moment for Jess. She realized that a long distance relationship with Ryan was not going to work out and broke up with him over voicemail. Now to Cece, last week saw Winston shine Cece on with the assumption that she was into Schmidt. This week saw the culmination of that with Schmidt exclaiming to Cece that he will always try to make her happy and pulled the fire alarm to stall Jess's awkward singing before the wedding and make way for a visit from the hot firefighter. Something happened that I wish more characters on the show would be willing to share, Cece told the old crush that she was in love with someone else…Schmidt. We all knew it was coming and I'm happy to see a character commit to their decision. If only Cece could find a way to tell Schmidt without being afraid, I'm sure Schmidt would reciprocate the feeling and leave Fawn.

Tonight's episode continued in the vein of last week and moved characters forward for their desired arcs for the season while making them come to terms with who they are and who they love. The ending epilogue of "Crush River", a river where you throw a rock while thinking of the name of your crush into the lake was sweet, even if Jess solidified the fact that the crush never turns out to be anything. (Hats off to Coach questioning, "are we really doing this? Is this really happening?") All in all, a good episode of New Girl which saw the characters take on a little more responsibility, even if Jess forgot the wedding rings and her mom took part in an acid trip. Tune in next week for an all-new New Girl and comment below with your thoughts on the episode.

  1. I have always been a huge Schmidt/Cece fan (they make quite a funny/dynamic couple) so all these developments on their romantic front are more than welcome. I also believe this is the first time that Cece has admitted out loud that she is in love with Schmidt.

  2. I was hoping they would let Schmidt and CeCe remain friends for a little longer but I'm fine with the role reversal and have CeCe pine over a spoken for Schmidt.
