Banshee - We Were All Somebody Else Yesterday - Review

Banshee was back last Friday with an all new episode titled “We Were All Someone Else Yesterday”, written by Adam Targum and directed by Ole Christian Madsen.
That episode had a huge shoes to fill in after last week’s Tribal which was so brutal and awesome. Killing off Siobhan, the only good part of Hood’s life, was a bold, a bit depressing and challenging choice. I know some of us had problems with such a violent death on screen. It was cruel and cold. But the aftermaths of Chay’s attack on the Cadi and Siobhan’s murder were very interesting and so well handled in “We Were All Someone Else Yesterday”.
Banshee has proved one more time such a great show it has became. It has gotten so deeper and more thoughtful seasons after seasons and season 3 keeps on amazing me with such a high and equal quality.

Antony Starr was particularly amazing in “We Were All Somebody Else Yesterday”. He played Hood’s anger so well. God, that man is so powerful just with his eyes. His sadness and remorse really touched me; especially in the first part. It was so hard to watch him at Siobhan’s and destroy everything. The flashback of Siobhan's death and the sound of her neck cracking were not necessary but it showed how strong and violent Hood's memories are. So of course, Hood was only thinking about one thing : getting Chay and making him pay for Siobhan’s death. I really want to see him suffer and die too, that’s for sure. I very much enjoyed revengeful Hood.
The FBI arrived at the Cadi, taking over and looking for Chayton. He killed a police officer, therefore he was a wanted man. Hood and his team were left out by the FBI but they gave their help. And when the FBI explained their plan in the forest, I could see Hood couldn't stand to just watch. He listened and made his plan in his head.
Hood couldn’t go after Chay alone, and Job was the best man to team up with. I so missed him last week so I was thrilled to see him back. I’m such a fan of his character. He’s not like any other character in TV history. I’m so looking forward a flashback episode on him. Anyway, it was very risky for them to go to Chay’s camp and try to kill him themselves. But they’re bad ass warriors.

That scene in the tent was excellent. It was so stressful, it kept me glued to my chair. At first, I wanted Hood to just shoot Chay in his sleep so that would be over. Yet, I wanted to see him suffer too. Stabbing him in the leg was fun, very painful and enjoyable to watch at the same time. Hood’s face was just so good, he was enjoying it so much. I forgot sometimes how dark and terrifying Hood can be. But, one of Chay's man came in and fought off Job, so Chay could escape.
The running scene in the forest was also very enjoyable. How could he run so fast with his injury ? Is he a god or what ? How could he do that ? But Deputy King ran really, really fast too and she found Chay first. She was ready to shot him, she totally could (and should) have fired her gun. He’s murderer, a threat to anyone. Still, she couldn’t shot him because of what he is. Stupid.
Chay almost killed her. At one point, I kinda wish he would kill her, she had it coming. And I didn’t even think Banshee wouldn’t dare to it. I know it must be really hard to kill someone, but she’s a cop, she’s trained to do that . Luckily, Hood shot Chay but didn’t kill him and he was as angry as I was at Aimee.
Chay ran and dive into a lake, he had held his breath quite long and finally disappeared. Damn, I'm so pissed Hood missed him but it means it would be even fierce when he'll get his revenge on him. Can't wait for Chay to die at Hood's hands.

While Hood was taking his revenge for his broken heart, Carrie (the first woman who had ever broken Hood’s heart) was busy keeping their other mission on. It had been a while since we last saw of Langley Kirkwood, and with last week explosive episode, I kinda forgot about the money and the mission at the camp.
And I have been missed Carrie too. She is really adjusting this year, it’s very different for her character because she has lost everything. She has no one, no family, no friends, no real job. The only thing that matters for her now is the mission, the millions dollars. Her scene with the colonel at the diner's was excellent. They really have a special chemistry, too bad she's playing with him. That makes me worry about Carrie’s fate if/when Stowe learns about who she really is and does. Still, I’m so looking forward that attack. The season has been so great, my expectations for that moment are very, very high.

“We Were All Somebody Else Yesterday” also focused on another female character : Rebecca. She has always been very intriguing to me. She has that special look in her eyes, her face is very expressive and yet so mysterious. She has became way more violent since she has started working with her uncle. She is really different now, colder. I kinda missed her naive and candid side. . Her scene in the club and especially her speech to the drug dealer were both outstanding. She was so fierce, so good at it. She has it in her, it runs in her DNA I guess. I could totally picture her replacing Kai.
Yet, she’s still young and she has to learn to be a real bad ass crazy sociopath, like her uncle. Her humiliation, having to apologize to the drug dealer really touched and ravaged her. I lvoe dhow she threw everything away. But, it was a little over the top. I'm starting to wrry about her and what she really wants to do. She might have to go to fast and brun some steps. And in that business, it could be very dangerous and even deadly.
But Rebecca wasn't ina  good place, since the start f the episode and the funeral of Kai's mother. She had enjoyed being so great at being bad in her business, especially since she talked down her parents. At Kai’s mother funeral, they came to her and they apologized to her, they made the first step towards her. They wanted her back, because she was their daughter after all and funerals have that weird power to bring people closer. But Rebecca was very cold and rejected them. She wasn't ready to forgive them, she was probably still mad at them for what they did to her, and that's understandable.

And finally, there were those black & white / what if sequences that were so beautiful. I loved how they were directed. They really put the episode, and even the show on a whole new level. I’ve never been a fan of those what if storylines in TV shows, it’s usually pointless. You can't change what happened.  But those flashes showed us a world where Banshee (as a TV show) could have never existed (I know, it’d have been horrible).
Sheriff Lucas Hood wasn’t killed in the bar and (I have no idea who to call him there), let’s say our Hood, didn’t take his place. Instead he resolved the conflict with the gunmen of the pilot in a pacific manner and just left Banshee with Job… Not without seeing Siobhan and smiling at her. Oh god, it was so beautiful, so emotional and so sad to watch them, in black & white smiling. I just wanted him to run to her and kiss her again and again.

What did you think of “We Were All Somebody Else Yesterday” ? Are you excited for the rest of the season, and next season (yeah season 4 is coming !)  Hit the comments !

Banshee Notes :

- Brock is really growing on me. He can so annoying sometimes and yet so touching sometimes. That scene in Hood's car at Siobhan's funeral was so good.
- So Deva met with a new guy : Charlie. He's trouble, it's written on his face. I don't really want to see Deva going down that road...
- Bunker is growing on me too ! And even more, he's never annoying and he's always so hot. You don’t want to do that sir”, the way he said it, it would have been foolish to do otherwise.
- The way Carrie stole Stowe’s fingerprint and recorded his voice was surprising, and so cool.
