“Let Her Go” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER JULIE PLEC MAKES HER DIRECTORIAL DEBUT — After assigning tasks to each of her friends, Caroline (Candice Accola) attempts to deal with her current situation as reality begins to set in around her. While spending the day with Caroline, Elena (Nina Dobrev) grows concerned when she starts noticing a strange change in her behavior. Meanwhile, Alaric (Matt Davis) becomes wary when Kai (guest star Chris Wood), who has begun experiencing unexpected consequences from the merge, turns to Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O’Keefe), desperate for her help. Elsewhere, while Bonnie (Kat Graham) finds herself in an unfamiliar situation, Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) contemplate a major life change. And when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) offers Caroline advice on how to cope with everything going on around her, it forces him to revisit painful memories involving his own mother. Paul Wesley also stars. The episode was written and directed by Julie Plec (#615). Original airdate 2/19/2015.

  1. I wonder if Damon will tell Caroline to shut off her emotions.

  2. Caroline attempts to deal with her current situation as reality begins to set in around her-Dealing with her mother's tragic demise.

Elena grows concerned when she starts noticing a strange change in her behavior-Hopefully less whiny and self-centered now!
I'm really thinking matt and tyler are contemplating leaving mystic falls like jeremy. That would be great!
As per recent spoilers, caroline also faced similar circumstances in her childhood. Her mom came real close to death that time too.I'm looking forward to this sequence!
I really hope that's luke's personality messing with kai's head. Please keep him Evil till the end of his journey!
Bonnie (Kat Graham) finds herself in an unfamiliar situation-Back just now, already in trouble?
Paul Wesley also stars-Such sad State of Affair!Poor guy!

  3. It looks like we are going learn more about Stefan and Damon's mom.

  4. Damn the last one was one good episode of TVD. It kind of felt like season two all over again for a minute. Can't wait to see what is around the corner.

    cRaZy theory / my wish:

I know it's very VERY unlikely to happen ... but Stefan told Caroline about how his mother was very sick and then his father Giuseppe sent her away.

I wonder if there is a chance in hell Mrs. Salvatore was spared somehow and made immortal ?

How would you feel if come seasons end or season seven Damon and Stefan were to be reunited with their dear mother after a 149+ years of being apart ?

Just for the fun of it who would you cast as Mama Salvatore ? Sarah Michelle Gellar ? Julie Landau ? Susanna Thompson ? ........ ?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Something tells me that she's already been cast... and that Annie Wershing will be the one taking on the role. She was cast back in december and is set to make her first appearance in this episode so...

    ReplyDelete
  6. Clearly the Liz funeral episode. I'm annoyed they're dragging out her death this long - but I knew Julie was going to direct the funeral from the cast posting pictures online.

I hope Matt & Tyler also leave town. Tyler can take Liv with him as well.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Tyler "Matt should we take the final step"
Matt" The last logical one you mean?"
Tyler: "Yes, as the last rational TVD characters we should totally get married brah"

    ReplyDelete
  8. She died of consumption. Damon told Stefan this information in 5x04 while Stefan had amnesia.

  9. I think Bonnie will come back in 613, and they just didn't mention her in the previous synopsis because of everything else that'll happen in that episode. I think the promo photos from 613 are of Damon, Elena, and Jeremy staring in shock at Bonnie, and possibly Kai. That or Kai will make the proposition to Elena, probably because he wants some of her power, and it'll take her until the end of 613 to decide to accept his help. That would mean that Bonnie will be back in time to just miss Jeremy leaving, and she'll be confused about some of the things happening around her. Maybe she'll have some kind of temporary amnesia.

If Damon will be the one counseling Caroline about something Stefan already opened up to her about, then Stefan might be keeping his distance in this episode for some reason. I've always been curious about how Mrs. Salvatore died. At one point I wondered if Giuseppe killed her and covered it up. There have been a lot of theories about Stefan and Damon only being half brothers or one of them being adopted.

I don't think Matt or Tyler will leave Mystic Falls. I think they're going to consider forming their own vampire hunting party like Tripp did, because Enzo caused that much trouble.

I'm trying to figure out where Alaric went looking for a magical object to bring Bonnie back, if the gang will end up going to Kai for help anyway. Is it possible that someone we're not aware of will hear about what Alaric is doing and come to Mystic Falls to offer assistance? Hmm...

  10. "Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) contemplate a major life change."

    Gay marriage?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think Lily will be a new villain. It looks like Kai isn't long for this world.

My theory was always that Giuseppe killed Mama Salvatore, and it would have been easy for him to cover up if he killed her for being a vampire, or if he fed her vampire blood and killed her twice for some other reason. If Augustine was around in the Civil War times, Stefan and Damon's mother could have been sent there.

There's no mention here of the mystery involving Elena's parents, but I still have a feeling it'll turn out that Damon found out about Grayson and caused the car crash. The experiments in that lab were practically right under Damon's nose. How and why would he resist? He barely knew Elena back then and he had no problem messing with her.

  12. well Bonnie IS a Bennet LOL

  13. Mama Salvatore AWESOME!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. that'd be crazy emotional for them, but it'd be great. You know at first i though Annie Wersching was Mama Gemini but she might just just be Mama Salavatore

    ReplyDelete
  15. Matt isn't thinking of another hunter party for sure coz the last one was a raging success. As someone said, tyler and matt should marry each other's sorry ass and get the hell of this town!LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  16. RIPPER CAROLINE PLS
    and RIPPER STEFAN

    ReplyDelete
  17. Caroline's not a Ripper, the reason why Stefan is a Ripper is because he can't control his bloodlust. Caroline CAN control her bloodlust, you don't become a Ripper just by turning your emotions off, when Elena turned them off she wasn't a Ripper, when Damon turned his emotions off he wasn't a Ripper either, the virus TURNED him into a Ripper

    ReplyDelete
  18. LOL!Very true indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, it would be a bad idea on Matt and Tyler's part, but when did Tyler, at least, do anything smart that led to anything good?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Then she probably really did die. There isn't any point to making her a vampire now and having her come back into her sons' lives after over a century, unless it's supposed to contribute to separating Elena from the Salvatore brothers. A mother they missed would have a lot of influence. If Lily is their mother and she's "caustic," which means sarcastic and overly critical, then she wouldn't get along with Elena at all.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Caroline isn't capable of being a Ripper. She's only violent when she's trying to protect someone she loves. It doesn't look like she'll turn her humanity off. Fans and bloggers who want to see that happen have been spreading rumors, but the writers and producers probably decided against it because it just wouldn't go well with Caroline's character and the way her story is progressing this season.

    ReplyDelete
  22. she can't even BE a Rpper, Rippers can't control their bloodlust, that's why stefan's one

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think everyone has been immature and judgmental of each other since the beginning of the season because they've been struggling to cope with loss and other tragedies happening around them. As a future doctor, Elena showed proper concern for a patient and friend. JP said that Liz was there for Elena and Jeremy when their parents died. Elena was probably feeling emotional herself, but she's experienced more loss than Caroline so it makes sense that she would just want to grieve and she'd feel the need to question the damage that Caroline inadvertently caused. Jo was upset, too. Stefan was being a jerk with the way he talked to Elena, and he's at risk of becoming Caroline's lap dog if he keeps ignoring logic where she's concerned. Elena was right, Stefan should have stopped Caroline because he knew better. Even Grayson Gilbert experimented vigorously before even attempting to use vampire blood to cure a human. He probably would have been afraid of accidentally creating a vampire. Killing people to make more experiments was something only Wes did because his zealotry made him so twisted that he lost sight of his purpose.

Caroline's behavior was a little bit understandable because she's about to lose her mother and the only family she has left, but there's more than one way to look at what happened. I think the episode showed very well the different points of view about dealing with death and the fact that magic isn't the answer to every problem. Kai's big save caused Liz to have a heart attack and start packing her bags for the afterlife because her body couldn't handle what he did. That's probably how witches die when he takes all of their power. One reason for Tripp's storyline, and now Matt's storyline, is that the writers and producers still want to make clear that humans and supernaturals can't co-exist without serious problems. The series started with the appearance of only two vampires, and now it looks like friends are about to turn on each other because all of the resulting tragedy has caused a divide between humans and supernaturals.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Haha, I thought the exact same thing - would if Mama Salvatore came back to present time? Seeing them treated as misbehaving boys would be hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wish they would get on already with Matt's storyline of humans vs supernaturals. I can only hope it's not going to entirely disappear into plot oblivion.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It looks like it's about to blow up until somebody ends up dead.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "Paul Wesley also stars"? Aww, poor Stefan.

And I think Elena notices a strange change in Caroline's behaviour, not her own. Although the latter would be funnier.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I kinda hope Caroline shuts her emotions off and goes dark for a bit. Give her character something to do and if the death of her mother, something she had a hand in making worse doesn't do it, then nothing will.
I'm still creeped out over Damon being besties with Liz, considering that he did severely abused Caroline when she was human back in season one. If Liz EVER found out what he did to her... I guess she never will now. :(

    ReplyDelete
  29. Paul Wesley also stars-Such sad State of Affair!Poor guy!

This^^^ It's sad and hilarious at the same time. Given that Stefan had recently brought up his mom, I was thinking that the particular story thread would continue with him and lead to him giving advice to Caroline on how to deal with her loss. Seeing that Stefan has had no major connection to the major story line of Kai that is going on (that in itself is already sad/pathetic), I was somewhat okay that he was at least involved a bit in Caroline's story line - but looks like even that is being taken away.

I may be jumping the gun here seeing that the episode has yet to air but at this point this is how I feel regarding Stefan's story line or the lack of it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. a lot of people came back from the other side when it collapsed. so I guess it's possible.. but unlikely

    ReplyDelete
  31. they do it all the time with Stefan. every time his character opens up a story. then he is sidelined and the story goes to Damon. do you realize Stefan only had one line with his own doppelganger?!?
Silas, Markos, Wes, Kai, Shane, Kol, Mason, Elijah, Pearl, John
the only characters Stefan really got to interact with are Klaus and Rebecca.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Damon's mom? That should be interesting. Damon and Stefan have never talked about her mother, so I'm looking forward to the flashbacks.
I'd like that Caroline turned off her humanity. It would be a change, and I'm sure emotionless Caroline would be funny!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Actually I was responding to the theory going around that Lily is Mama Salvatore, AND she was sent away because Giuseppe fed her vampire blood to save her, making Mama Salvatore a vampire who never bothered to contact her sons in 170 years. I really don't see that happening. If Lily is Mama Salvatore, we'll probably only see her in flashbacks. JP teased on Twitter that we'll see Damon in the 1850s, before he went off to war.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sarah, I've always imagined that Stefan and Damon might be half brothers! Suppose that before being married to Giuseppe Salvatore, Mrs. Salvatore fell in love with someone totally inappropriate - someone below her family's station, like a servant in their household. She became pregnant and her family found out before they could run away. Aware of the terrible scandal this would cause, her father went to Giuseppe, told him the truth, and offered him a great deal of money to marry his daughter and raise her child as his own. Giuseppe agreed (it was a LOT of money) and the young woman was forced to marry him immediately. She eventually had a son, Damon, coyly referred to as "premature", and eventually had Giuseppe's own son, Stefan.

Considering her actions, Mrs. Salvatore must have had the guts to follow her own desires no matter the consequences. In a time when women were considered property and had no rights she ignored the rules and followed her heart. Similarly, her lover was risking his own life to be with the woman he loved. Giuseppe was hard on Damon and even cruel to him when the initial lure of the money wore off. He knew Damon wasn't his son and on top of that he didn't act the way Giuseppe thought a son should. He was reckless and impulsive instead of being a serious nose-to-the-grindstone type like Stefan, Giuseppe's OWN son. There is nothing at all of the Giuseppe we know - close minded, mean spirited, rigid, always seeking status - in Damon. Damon's behavior and choices in his life point to him not being the son of Giuseppe Salvatore but of biological parents who passed on, for better or worse, very different characteristics, like impulsiveness and daring. With his inherited characteristics and his upbringing it's no wonder that Damon bonded to Katherine so fully and never needed to be compelled to drink her blood - and hated Stefan for what he probably saw as Stefan being preferred over him, again.

  35. hm, maybe Lilly (Annie Wersching) is the Salvatore's mom and... maybe she is still alive as a vampire.. it would be coool

    ReplyDelete
  36. jesus, why Gellar? because she was the star of Buffy? LOL

my theory: Lilly is Mama Salvatore, aka Annie Wersching.. and she could still alive

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it's possible that Damon had a different father, but I can only agree about his feelings toward Stefan to an extent. Damon resented Stefan when they were growing up, but Stefan was always still Damon's baby brother. Blood is thicker than water, especially in old Italian families. I say this not to stereotype, but because I come from such a family. Damon saw the incident that made them vampires, and Giuseppe's murder, as all part of an act of betrayal by Stefan. That's why Damon initially walked out on Stefan and left him to be Ripper. I believe it was Lexi who made Damon come back and take care of his brother. Am I the only one noticing more similarities every year between the Salvatore brothers and Klaus and Elijah? Too bad that can't be addressed without intertwining the shows too much or bringing up the doppelganger curse again.

  38. He's merely a supporting character at best currently.Since the silas track ended,he has had absolutely no storyline,NONE.I get that damon and elena are the major pull for TVD demo viewership but the way the creatives have ignored this character,is sad and baffling at the same time.Actually i was binge watching TVD season 1 & 2 a few weeks ago and i suddenly had a realization-The show became all about Delena and their problems around season 3 and stefan was just around to help/support their storyline, nothing else.Paul is a great actor but ian always gets all the credit.Poor guy indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. They were.
In the books Damon resented Stefan even before Katherine because Stefan's birth led to their mother's death but in the series they were "The Salvatore brothers, best friends." Even though their father preferred Stefan, Damon didn't seem to have a problem with Stefan for that.

    ReplyDelete
  40. it would BE very meta LOL

    ReplyDelete
  41. weren't they best friends before She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named came into the picture?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree about Stefan. Paul Wesley is a great actor, and they should have continued to give his character a decent story, especially since a lot of the his unpopularity had to do with the love triangle. A similar thing happened to Bonnie, when lot of viewers (including even the editor of a popular TV blog site) relentlessly voiced disliked of Bonnie's character in the earlier seasons (I will never understand why), until she was sidelined. It also happened to Tyler with the introduction of Klaus. So now, the only characters how get an in-depth story are Caroline, Damon and Elena. It's basically Gossip Girl all over again, where the writers sidelined three of their leads in favor of the very popular Chuck and Blair and alienated all the other viewers who were fans of the other characters. No wonder they lose viewers. You would think that there would be tons of space to promote all of these characters just as well, but it never happens.

Fans always have their favorites and it's OK for writers to listen a bit, but ultimately, the writers have the power to make a character popular or not. The writers should take a page from shows like Arrow. As much as I like Olicity, and as much as I would have liked Sara to be Black Canary, I give the writers props for 1. Doing their best to to not make Olicity the central theme of the story, despite the excessive Olicity shipping bythe fandom and 2. Sticking with their commitment to making Laurel the Black Canary and taking the time to give her a story arc, despite all of the objections and unpopularity of her character. It shows that they're committed to all of their viewers, not just the vocal majority and it also allows for a more consistent story.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Couldn't agree more!

    ReplyDelete
  44. One thing i had to ask-Why do you think delena became so popular compared to stelena? Is it coz of the actors involved or the books or the creatives portrayal of the chracters in the triangle? What's your take on it?I always thought it was coz ian was more famous and hotter than paul.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I misread that.I think it's referring to caroline switching off her emotions.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I kinda thought it had different reasons aside from Ian which is the more obvious reason. LOL
First, Delena was more popular than Stelena even before the series, in the novels. (I myself liked Bamon in the novels the best but I also highly preferred DE to SE. SE was like...Nevermind-_-) Second, Damon and Elena had a slow-burn romance which is usually more popular than the typical girl-meets-boy type of romance. Will-they-won't-they mixed with the chemistry between Ian and Nina...Fans went crazy. Third, SE had the misfortune to happen first and was dragged out for 3 seasons. Just like how DE is now considered repetitive and boring, many fans were very very tired of SE after 2 seasons. Fourth, Damon's redemption plotline. Fans/fangirls want the anti-heroes redeemed. And they only saw his redemption in being with Elena. Based on just HOW POPULAR his character has been esp. in the beginning, I can think of many many people wanting DE happen just to see this dude redeemed.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with you about "blood being thicker than water". I come from the same ethnic background and I heard that saying many times when I was growing up. I think that ingrained belief is the reason why, no matter how long and bitter their periods of estrangement have been, and no matter how many times they have threatened to kill each other, Stefan and Damon have come to each others' rescue over and over again.

I also agree that Damon blamed Stefan for being so naive that he betrayed Katherine to their father, which led to their death at their father's hand and forced the need for a decision to turn or permanently die. But I don't believe Damon thought Giuseppe's accidental murder was a part of that betrayal. Damon thought Katherine was dead so it seemed pointless to him to turn. Stefan's turning through inadvertently mortally wounding their father and then turning was shocking to Damon; he expected Stefan would also choose death rather than turn. And, the reason Damon walked out on Stefan was because Stefan's behavior horrified him. From the very beginning Damon could control his blood lust and Stefan could not. Damon feared that so many deaths would expose him and Stefan as vampires. As Damon left he asked Lexi to help Stefan because he needed it. It was Lexi who then took Stefan in hand and helped and cared for him.

As to why Damon hated Stefan so much: do you remember when they were discussing Stefan's having forced Damon to turn? Stefan told Damon he regretted it because he thought that was the source of Damon's hatred, and the reason he had promised Stefan an eternity of misery. But Damon told him, "It was supposed to be me, Stefan. Only me." Again, Damon did not rate being first choice.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That last part is why I don't think Elena should be with either of them. The doppelganger story is done, but there's still a pattern that needs to be broken.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Joy Haldar - I know you didn't ask me, but as a Delena shipper (in those early seasons, that is), I got only one word to answer that question, and then I won't interrupt the conversation anymore. :D
    Delena - CHEMISTRY.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Sara. I don't think it has that much to do with looks. I think the major reasons are
    1. Fans tend to prefer the non-canon ship. This is why I always groan when a character is introduced in the beginning of a series as the love interest (e.g. Laurel or Iris), because it's generally the kiss of death .I think fans tend to prefer the "unexpected" relationships that evolve with time ( the slow burn relationships)
    2. People seem to like stories where the bad-guy becomes good because he falls in love (the redemption arc)
    3. The whole Elizabeth/Mr.Darcy phenomenon: People love the I hate you/ I love you plotlines.

I'm not sure if the above theory is as applicable to older fans, though, But when I look back at the old CW shows, the most popular relationships usually satisfied these three criteria:
Gossip Girl: Chuck and Blair. IMO, Nate and Dan were far better looking than Chuck, but Chuck had the bad-boy image and love/hate relationship with Blair.
    Dawson's Creek: Dawson vs. Pacey
    LOST; Jack vs. Sawyer

    ReplyDelete
  51. See but that's the thing, Stefan may not have believed that vampire blood would work but he sure as hell never thought it would speed up the cancer. And no he is no yes man, he did give Caroline some tough love saying, yes you made your mother sicker, but don't bury your head in the sand... N no Elena wasn't coming from a doctorly place, she was using the witch drug while she was on the pre med prog, so you can't justify her judgment by saying she's looking at it from a Dr. Patient point of view. Elena n Damon have screwed up n number of times n the gang has come together to bail them out, why can't they just do the same minus the judgment. No matter how Elena feels abt Liz, she is at the end of the day Caroline's mom not hers n she has no right to overstep and make it all abt her feelings getting hurt over Caroline's poor decision... I'm with Stefan on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Her emotions will overwhelm her and maybe she will switch it off, but not be a ripper.. it might make for an interesting storyline simply because Caroline is all emotions and a Caroline without any might be a completely unrecognizable person. . . Then again maybe she will not turn it off and just be a giant hot mess because of the grief she will experience.. either ways it will be interesting n painful to watch

    ReplyDelete
  53. For a long time now I have believed that in the end Elena will not be with either of the boys, that she will move on and make her own way.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think that Elena had no right to judge Stefan, because she and Damon did something even far more stupid and catastrophic by giving Kai his powers back before Jo had time to get stronger. And it's easy to be certain of something when you have the gift of hindsight (as I recall, Stefan did try to discourage Caroline, but he probably wasn't certain that she was wrong). This is one of the problems that I have with the Vampire Diaries, which is the extreme hypocrisy of all the characters and the inconsistency of the writers. Then the fact that certain characters like Caroline and Damon are beyond reproach and somehow others never are. Seriously of all the characters to blame in this entire episode, why would anyone be pointing the finger at Stefan? He's not the one who decided to experiment on some poor guy and kill him , nor the one who fed Liz her blood, nor the one who released Kai, nor the one who was willing to sacrifice Luke or Liv.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't want to point fingers by replying to any one person, but it's clear that we all have our favorite characters and when those characters disagree on-screen, some people feel the need to bicker and express unhealthy levels of negativity in order to defend their favorite characters. These characters are fictional and honestly, I don't have time to argue about who was right or wrong on a TV show. I just want to enjoy the show.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jumping into the realm of speculation, they probably didn't mention Stefan in the synopsis because it would give away a previous episode plotline?? Or it would be too much of a spoiler for episode 15 Or 16?? . . . trying to stay positive that Stefan won't be sidelined especially wen Caroline would need him the most on the day of her mother's funeral...

    ReplyDelete
  57. maybe something to do with Enzo and Sarah Salvatore

    ReplyDelete
  58. JP said Elena's parents death was not supernatural - so I don't think Damon was involved and Liz would never give Damon - Elena's parents file if she thought he had anything to do with it - so I am going with what JP said - Not Supernatural.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This episode looks very promising. We now have a new creature - Luke/Kai being - what will that be like? Will Luke try and kill Kai? Will the coven reject this new thing since they were not twins? Looking forward to Delena and Steroline getting closer. Alaric should be back with some new tool to either help Jo or Bonnie?

    ReplyDelete
  60. That's right good call. I forgot about that conversation - but I guess she still could have been turned, by someone. Enzo was.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well done...very good. I loved reading every bit and so true. Giuseppe favored Stefan over Damon - Why? Why was he so hard on Damon to the point of being cruel?

    ReplyDelete
  62. how many members of the Gemini Coven are there anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I remember that very well and it rang so true to me. I've said this before - I think that the greatest love story of TVD is not between Elena and Stefan or Damon, but between the brothers themselves. I also recall Rebekah telling Klaus that the Salvatore brothers knew the true meaning of family, unlike Klaus. I think she said something like, they fight like cats and dogs but they'd die for each other. Some fans have even speculated that at the end of the series one of them will do exactly that.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Perfect recap of 2x15. One thing about the brothers has always stayed with me - it is when Elena tells Damon that she believes Damon will be the one to help Stefan save him from himself (this is after Klaus forced Stefan to turn off his humanity) - not because Stefan loved Elena but because Stefan Loved Damon - The True Bond of Family - "Blood thinker than Water" absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks, Gwen. I tried to cover why I think Giuseppe was so hard on Damon in my second paragraph above. Maybe give it a re-read?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ughhh. I never though about that. Yeah....LIz doesn't need to know that at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  67. If JP is holding to that, then the mystery is probably something Elena's parents were involved in. It really would be cool if it turned out that John and Isobel were lying. John came forward too quickly when Elena started looking for her father. Where was he when his brother and sister-in-law died and Liz had to take care of Elena and Jeremy? I never bought his story completely.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't think the coven has much of a choice in the matter.. earlier I was thinking that the merge was required for the coven members to keep their magic, but now it turns out they all DIE if a new merge dsnt happen before the leader dies. . . So they will have to accept kai.. unless tvd throws in another big loophole, kai will be around n no one will be itching to kill him, as that would mean the demise of no n liv as well..

    ReplyDelete
  69. Not to worry, I don't think Stefan is going to be sidelined. But speaking of Enzo and Sarah, I do think that they are going to fall in love - or at least Enzo will fall for her. I want to believe that there is some good reason why Enzo has turned from a charming bad boy to just plain bad. Why make Michael Malarkey a regular this season only to have him become so unlikable and unsympathetic, or am I expecting too much logic from JP? Redemption and change have been themes running throughout this series, and love can tame the most savage beast. Maybe it'll tame Enzo. After all, it tamed Damon.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah, Damon was full throttle no emotions with Caroline. He truly was Season 1's big bad, though entertaining, villain. (And morality aside, he also had the best lines on TV that Season.) I doubt that Caroline ever told her mom in detail how he treated her, but if you think back there have been many positives in Damon and Liz's relationship over the subsequent years and she knows he has (mostly) changed his ways. Liz also understands the nature of vampires better since Caroline was turned - unintentionally by Damon - and she accepted her daughter's vampirism, a process which Damon facilitated. A favorite scene of mine illustrates how she deals with Damon. Remember when Katherine was dying, before she hijacked Elena's body? Liz came into the bedroom and found Damon standing over Katherine with a pillow in his hand, about to smother her. Liz calmly took the pillow away from Damon and told him, very much with tongue in cheek, that if he smothered Katherine it would be murder and then she'd have to arrest him and then she'd have to put him in jail and then there would be so much paperwork. And then she left! Last episode Damon agreed that he and Liz are "close" and that for a human, she is "tolerable". I think Liz has come to share that sentiment - substituting "vampire for human, of course.

  71. Ikr?? what Jeremy said to Matt I think was quite significant..about how far Matt is willing to take this human vs vampire thing, will he be ok with killing Caroline or Elena simply because they are supernatural?? Matt I think wants to draw a line in the dirt so to speak. he is definitely thinking enough is enough..but what is he willing/capable of doing to keep the supernaturals in line?

  72. I hope you're right.

  73. When did they say that the whole coven would die if there was no merge?

    ReplyDelete
  74. At dinner with the twins . he says they need to merge and a new leader has to be chosen before he dies (current leader) or else the 'Gemini bloodline will cease to exist upon my death , that means the entire coven will die" ..N Luke says but you arenot dying anytime soon so no need to rush this blah blah.... But yeah essentially the covens "future" here means their very existence.

  75. Before we finally end this discussion I'd like to add that Tyler and Luke had probably their best scenes to date last episode. It was wonderful that when people they loved were in danger they were able to reach inside themselves and find strength we've rarely, if ever, seen from Ty, and never from Luke. Wimpy Luke is gone but he went out like a hero. Tyler thought about someone else besides himself and damn the consequences. Selflessness is awesome, and humbling, to see in action.

  76. I find Tyler's actions a bit premature.. He practically just met her. Plus it goes against his character a bit..Caroline helped him through his transition into a werewolf, they dated for a long time and were supposed to be in love and he never treated her the way he is currently treating liv..it's just weird seeing the him as the devoted boy friend.... Of course this is just my pov. Pls don't hate on me if u r a huge Tyler fan..

  78. No I do not believe so.

  79. Agree - John was always a bit of a weasel but I don't think he was involved in his own brother's death. I actually think the secret is rooted in MF deep founders society beliefs and that Elena and her mother were just collateral damage. Grayson may have sided & had compassion for vampires and it got himself, his wife and possible daughter killed. I have a feeling they are going to go back to the beginning before TVD series ends.

  80. This may sound crazy but your writing has given me renewed hope in reading and posting to several of these TVD discussion sites. So many have gotten filled with ugly / hateful comments and have ruined the enjoyment I ounce found in watching and discussing the show with others. Your beautiful words have brought back the joy I find in this show, it's character and discussing them with individuals such as yourself. Thank You

  81. I don't know what the end holds for Elena. I do not see her alone but she has been growing into a strong independent women, following her fathers footsteps in medicine and thriving. I guess if she does end up with either brother it will be the one who is willing to support her in this quest. She will always be a vampire and she may need to have the trust and protection among her own kind.

  82. Honestly, I think with the Salvatore boys it all comes down to Love. Stefan knew he had the love of his father, Damon did not. Stefan knew what it felt like to be loved, by his father, Katherine, Elena, Lexi. Damon is just now experiencing that kind of Love with Elena. Elena said once that she believes that every move Damon has made he believes he did for Love (or something like that). But, I think what she meant is that he was desperately searching for someone to finally Love & Accept him. I think the last women to have loved Damon, prior to Elena was his mother, and I think Giuseppe clouded that memory, with his constant disdain for Damon. I can't wait to learn more about the young Salvatore boys and the women who brought them into this world & raised them.

Agree - we see a lot of similarities between Damon and Klaus - searching for Love / Acceptance.

  83. The Council might have been unhappy about Grayson's side job, but there wouldn't be a mystery if they caused the car crash, and a fanatic would have been discovered right away. It also would have gone against the beliefs to endanger Elena, who knew nothing about Augustine or vampires. If the car crash wasn't an accident, it might turn out that Elena was the target because she's a doppelganger. A supernatural with murderous intent could have stood on the bridge the same way Rebekah did and caused Grayson to swerve into the river, and that would not be a supernatural death. It would have been a murder that even a human could commit. If Damon did kill them as I suspect, it's the perfect way to definitively end Delena. I realize that shippers have a hard time seeing beyond their own perspectives, but it's best for the characters and the story to start distancing Elena from both Stefan and Damon now that the series is about to start wrapping up.

I never thought that John Gilbert killed anyone. If the mystery isn't about Grayson and Miranda's death, then it might turn out that John and Isobel were involved with something that wasn't mentioned in Season 1 or 2. Something that could have made them lie to keep Elena away from her real parents. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

  84. I think you are onto something here. Usually we see stefan cool, calm and collected. Usually he diffuses the tension, not create it. Usually he is considerate and even if he holds an opposing view, he would normally put forward his point without making the other person feel bad. This episode we see stefan lashing out at Elena for saying something he is probably thinking himself..... it reminds me of season 4, where Stefan basically excused all of Elena's actions saying her emotions were off.. Only here, he's defending Caroline. Does that make any sense ?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Great points Sarah - one other observation - which I am still trying to figure out and articulate is around having "HOPE" vs using "Logic". I like Stefan & Caroline because they are often hopeful and optimistic, but we have seen in this episode that hope can blind you if you disregard logic. Hope is not always a good thing and can even be dangerous. This was one episode where I think it challenged our view of "Hope" - especially among Caroline, Stefan and Elena.

I also found the exchange between Elena and Stefan to be very interesting. The last time I have seen Stefan lash out at Elena like this was when they broke up and he was hurt. Why, was he so mean spirited? Was he trying to protect Caroline? Is he upset that Elena was reckless in erasing her memories of Damon? or Is he angry at himself and hurting? If he values Elena's friendship he will tell her.

Another good point, which I believe will take us back to the beginning of the series - humans vs vampires, a war between them appears to be brewing once again in the town of MF - lookout the town folk could be sharpening their daggers.

  86. My best guess about Stefan's absence in this particular synopsis is that in the episode before this, when Stefan and Caroline "grow closer," they'll get a little too close for Stefan's comfort and he'll need to take time and space to think over whether he really wants to go there with Caroline. I don't think it'll be about Elena really. Remember how Elena described her relationship with Matt and how a friendship became an uncomfortable relationship? I think one concern will be whether Stefan really has romantic enough feelings for Caroline to turn their friendship into a relationship without most or all of the feelings being one-sided. That's probably why the writers want to take their time with Steroline. Stefan as a character needs more time to process the fact that Caroline is in love with him, and I'm not sure that Stefan really feels the same way right now. He can't make himself love her and he shouldn't have to. His promise to Liz could have been equal parts hoping he could take care of Caroline, and also wanting to comfort a dying woman.

I agree that a fight is about to go down between human and supernatural major characters. Contracts are up, so all bets are off about everyone surviving. I also don't think we've seen the end of the Gemini coven. They will want to hunt down Kai and anyone who has been helping him get power.

    ReplyDelete
  87. And please may I add that we are not giving Caroline nearly enough credit. We forget that she has been brutally snubbed by Stefan on the romantic front TWICE - first in S1 and then more importantly just a few months back ! ! The Caroline we know now will not loose all self respect and throw herself at him after that. S1 Caroline would have, but right now we are looking at an evolved, stronger, self respecting, proud woman who will not go begging for love.

Also, lets not forget that she heard Stefan promising her mom that he will be there for her. So whatever future semi-romantic interactions they have will be tainted by that. In her mind she will probably be thinking, this is not him being romantic, this is him fulfilling his promise.

Plus she would not risk loosing her friendship with Stefan by pushing the love envelope. Because lets face it, her friendship with Elena has been rocky since season 4; Matt and her barely interact; Tyler and her never interact; she hates Damon; Alaric and her were never friends; and bonnie is not around... so theres no way in hell she can afford to lose Stefan as a friend. She knows better than that.

So I think Stefan will have to make the first move if Steroline is to happen. I hope. Coz the last thing I want to see is a love sick Caroline chasing after an indifferent Stefan. That would really ruin Steroline for me.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Why can't he take time and space after the funeral. Surely Caroline will have her mother and not Stefan on her mind. If this is the case, then I'm going to be pissed at the writers. Let Stefan brood in his own time.

Stefan : - For Petes sake, if you are going to be there for her, then be there for her ! Put on your big boy pants and deal with your deep deep confusing emotions another time !

  89. Agree - I like Damon / Elena relationship, but the Story Line of Damon being involved does not add up. If he wanted Elena dead he could have killed her the night they first met + I find it hard to believe they have been building this relationship since S1 just to end it + why would Liz give Damon her file if she suspects something supernatural. We know Stefan was in the area - did he see something was he involved? Agree we will have to wait - hopefully we will have a few more clues when Liz gives Damon the file but right now I am betting on something non-supernatural & possible MF / Founders Council related - Grayson may have upset the wrong people.

    ReplyDelete
  90. It really does make sense - usually when we see a change like this in a character they are at a cross-roads of sorts. I see both Caroline and Stefan at those cross-roads about to take a different path in life - will it be together with each other? Only time will tell. But the gang seems to be fracturing bit-by-bit. Matt possible going off to be the new sheriff in town. Liv / Tyler starting a life together. Jer. leaving MF. Bonnie damaged from her experience in 1994 and now possible Stefan / Caroline focus on their relationship be it friendship or beyond.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Great point Sarah - taking it slow is exactly what they need to do especially since Caroline's feelings are going to be all over the place after Liz dies. Per my comment above - they are both at a cross-roads and only time will tell. Plus while Stefan is sorting through his feelings maybe he can take some time to get to know his niece. Honestly, it would be a dream come true for Stefan, Damon and Sarah to become a true family. It would be great to see the Salvatore brothers protecting Sarah just like Klaus protects his daughter or Rebekah / Elijah.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I would also like to add if I may another observation regarding Caroline that I am proud of - she is not acting very forward / controlling like she does with most guys. She seems to be taking it slow as well, processing her true feelings - like you said she does not want to loose Stefan as a friend - so that could be why she has not been very clear what she wants or right now she may still not know herself.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I loved Damon & Liz scenes over the years - the one you mentioned above - when Liz finds out Caroline / Stefan and Damon are vampires - Damon tells Liz "no one is killing anyone because you were/are my friend" (or something like that). At a fund fund raiser & Damon comments on how nice she looks and she says "thanks I really needed that". 1 Favorite line - "Sheriff Forbes - my favorite Sheriff". S1 - S6 are just filled with these

  94. But didn't Luke/Live tell their father he is in perfect health? So he is not expected to die any time soon and I wonder if the coven keeps him as the leader since Kai / Luke were not twins. Kai, is expected to experience consequences from the merge - is it possible that they pull Luke's soul back out? The merge could possibly killing Kai.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I totally agree with you...she has not really displayed any obvious signs of having feelings towards him. Also she made it clear that she DID have feelings - PAST TENSE... she definitely has her guard up and she definitely does not want to push him into something he may not want. Plus Julie Plec/Caroline Dries (can't remember who) did mention that she too is navigating her feelings and is not entirely sure of them . . .

    ReplyDelete
  96. You know the gang seems pretty non existent to me at this point...maybe because there are just too many characters in the show right now that they can't fit them all it. I mean if this was S1 or S2, Matt and Tyler would have definitely be around the hospital when things went sour with Liz... The dynamics have really changed a lot. . . and yeah Bonnie's storyline makes me nervous... Steroline will have a confusing road ahead, but I think they will be OK (by that I mean EPIC) in the end :)

    ReplyDelete
  97. Like find a loophole, reverse the merge and bring Luke back ? hmmmmm NO CLUE !! LOL ! I mean Papa parker said after the merge a new soul is created by the joining of 2 souls...so can they really undo something like that ?
