Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

Metered Market Monday Ratings
CBS Leads; “Celebrity Apprentice” Vastly Improved on NBC

Monday 1/26/15

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 5.3/ 8
ABC 5.0/ 8
NBC 4.5/ 7
Fox 3.5/ 5
CW 1.2/ 2

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 1/27/15:
CW: +33, NBC: + 7, Fox: – 3, ABC and CBS: – 7 each
———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. These overnights are your first look at the ratings and a precursor to what could lie ahead. And we take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence.

-Winners:
“Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials” (CBS), “The Bachelor” (ABC), “Celebrity Apprentice” (NBC)

-Losers:
“State of Affairs” (NBC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the Monday overnight troops, besting No. 2 ABC by three-tenths of a household rating point (or six percent). It opened with annual special “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials” at a 6.4 rating/9 share from 8-9 p.m., which topped the night. And it led into encore telecasts of dramas “Scorpion” (#2: 5.2/ 8) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#1: 4.4/ 7) from 9-11 p.m., which are perfectly compatible vehicles.

In the 8-10 p.m. battle of “The Bachelor” on ABC (5.8/ 9) versus “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC (4.9/ 7), “The Bachelor’s” overnight household advantage this week was 18 percent. But vastly improved “Celebrity Apprentice” was just one-tenth of a rating point from its season high on the night, with growth of a hefty 58 percent over two episodes of “Hollywood Game Night” on the year-ago evening (avg. 3.1/ 5 on 1/27/14). Let’s be honest, though…the only reason why Kenya Moore is still afloat is because she makes good reality television. The wrong person got fired in the second episode last night.

Leading out of “Celebrity Apprentice” was failing drama “State of Affairs” at a 3.6/ 6 (#2), which was 42 percent below the 6.2/10 for year-ago occupant “The Blacklist.” An encore of competing “Castle” on ABC finished third with a 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m.

Elsewhere, Fox was at typical Monday overnight levels care of demo friendly “Gotham” (#4: 4.2/ 6) and sophomore “Sleepy Hollow” (#4: 2.9/ 4), which was 36 percent below the 4.5/ 7 for the season-premiere of drama “The Following” on the year-ago evening (4.5/ 7 on 1/27/14). And The CW was also at normal levels care of “The Originals” (#5: 1.3/ 2) and “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 1.1/ 2), which outdelivered year-ago Monday 9 p.m. occupant “Beauty and the Beast” (0.7/ 1 on 1/27/14) by 57 percent.

  1. Marc didn't say anything special about his virgin! Ahah

On a more serious note, everything seems regular.

  2. What was HH for Sleepy Hollow last week?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Revenge and OUAT27 January 2015 at 14:26

    Boring night IMO!

    ReplyDelete
  4. It depends on what fails27 January 2015 at 14:29

Is a 1.1 HH enough for a 0.5-0.6 rating for Jane?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Last week was a 2.6/4. In fact, a 2.9/4 is the highest HH since November. Demos are hard to predict, but you are looking at probably a 1.5 or 1.6. I wish Marc had mentioned the increase.

    ReplyDelete
  6. HH dont tell us much about the demo ive seen a show have higher HH one week but in the end the demo was lower than the week before with lower HH

    ReplyDelete
  7. Where did you find that i was look at TV Media Insights and nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Look at the day before Monday's thread and one of the final pages, that's where Marc posts the analysis SpoilerTV re-posts.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think NBC should swap Constantine and State of Affairs. Both are flops but Constantine could probably do better than SofA and it has 3 episodes left

    ReplyDelete
  10. Nice bump for Gotham and SH in terms of HH ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Not only rating wise, but also with the shows themselves. Sleepy Hollow is getting into my nerves by how boring it is becoming by the minute -_-

    ReplyDelete
  12. Considering Jane did a 0.5 out of a 0.9 once, I can see a 0.6 coming

    ReplyDelete
  13. While I respect Marc's Celebrity Apprentice opinion, how was Kate Gosslin the wrong person fired? She had absolutely no leadership ability and couldn't even get two people back on time as the project manager? I'm surprised she lasted this long. She wasn't a good player.

Ian and Leeza are by far the standouts. They get how to play this game.

    ReplyDelete
  14. BatB is the only show in the Universe that can get oulined by JTV. Let her be Marc.

Glad the Originals held steady. Would be fine if it gets back to 0.7s

    ReplyDelete
  15. Marc did, He said typical. I'm not sure where you got 2.6/4, but it's even in HH from last week.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It depends on what fails27 January 2015 at 14:56

FOX wants it to become a procedural.

    Time to bail.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's the problem, they have bailed. It hit a 1.3 last week. FOX is trying to save a sinking ship and if HH's are any indication, it's not working.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Actually it's not. Last week was a 2.6/4 as confirmed also by zap2it. I'm not sure where you got the 2.9/4 but please link to it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'd expect SH and JtV to go up a bit as they were against a Scorpion repeat

    ReplyDelete
  20. Totally agreed!
I am betting Leeza will take it all

    ReplyDelete
  21. The final results on TVMediaInsights, posted a day later (not by Marc).

    ReplyDelete
  22. Revenge and OUAT27 January 2015 at 15:01

IKR monday is the only day i do not watch anything. I dropped gotham starting this week because i found it boring and way too procedural. We need more serialized!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Actually, you made that completely up. Marc doesn't post HH results in his final totals. Your source is wrong, period. (As confirmed by Dan in this thread). No worries, it happens to us all. The HH last week was 2.6/4.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Of course he doesn't. Someone else does. Please read back. I think you are just arguing at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  25. From Zap2it (Jan 20TH)

    9 p.m.

    CBS: "Scorpion" (12 million, 7.4/12)
ABC: "The Bachelor" (7.45 million, 4.9/8)
NBC: "The Celebrity Apprentice" (6.5 million, 4.1/6)
FOX: "Sleepy Hollow" (4.2 million, 2.6/4)
The CW: "Jane the Virgin" (1.4 million, 0.9/1)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Once viewers are gone there gone
    FOX needs to realize that

    ReplyDelete
  27. And like I wrote before, it's wrong. Zap2it took preliminary ratings, not the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 36% decline was from the premiere of The Following.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Actually, there was no error in the tabulations per Rick Porter (the author of the article) nor later correction on the zap2it website. Your "incorrect error" is not supported nor evidenced in documentation.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wrong check here http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/sleepy-hollow-season-two-ratings-33996/

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sure it is. Look back. Go to the Monday thread. You'll see it. Forum rules is that outside links aren't allowed. But honestly, it's a 0.3 HH difference. The fact that this is a discussion is pointless. If you want to believe it was a 2.6/4, so be it. At the end of the day, Marc wrote typical for a reason. He did address it. You missed that point and that was the reason for writing in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's who I am thinking will win also. With Ian in second.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You are severely confused, I think. Marc didn't write a metered market report last week. Nor in the Monday thread. Which is why it was not reprinted here. I get it, you made a mistake. I wrote the actual metered results. I agree though for some reason you can't seem to let it go and insist you are right. As I said before, this is starting to sound more like #showtrolling than actual discussion so I'm out. Believe what you want.

    ReplyDelete
  34. While The Originals dropped 30 percent in demo(0.63 vs 0.90) its holding well on Mondays. It certain earned its renewal

    ReplyDelete
  35. Overall, I agree. There are ways to bring viewers back, but it would involve significant recasting. I'm not sure how they could recast the two leads and have the same show.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I actually like the leads.Producers chose to show more procedural episodes(I just watched Heartless episode perfectly even though I didnt watch 2 episodes before),Thats their fault.FOX says it will become procedural. It IS already procedural heavy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My post was in response to XYZ saying that it was a 36% decline this week from last week which was not the case. Not sure what you are talking about.'36 percent below the 4.5/ 7 for the season-premiere of drama “The Following” on the year-ago evening '

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think The Originals' problem was the extreme drops it went through last Spring, not the Monday move. It has managed to hold on pretty close to the level it had settled last spring on Tuesdays actually.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That's very ironic. People bailed on Fringe cause of how serialized it gotten but now people seem to be bailing on SH cause of how procedural it gotten. Lesson learned? If it's not broke, don't fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Monday's would be a better fit for the show. since there's more people at home early in the week than Friday. SOA was doomed from conception

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Jane, once you get the endorsement from Marc, you can never get it back!"

    ReplyDelete
  42. Kate should have been gone a long time ago. In addition to leadership problems, she was absolutely clueless on every task. The only thing she did well was set other people up in the boardroom and it worked for a while because they did not defend themselves well or did not want to play the game at all.

    Good riddance.

Absolutely agree with you on Leeza but Ian is a putz. Leeza was absolutely on the money with that viral video task about the brand messaging. The only reason why they won that task is because the other team missed the point of the task so badly and failed to create a viral video.

    YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It depends on what fails27 January 2015 at 16:05

Has Gotham leveled out at low 2s? It seemed like people came back to the winter premiere then left.

    ReplyDelete
  45. CA- 1.8/1.9
    Bachelor - 2.2/2.3
    SofA 1.0

    ReplyDelete
  46. Series low for Gotham.

    ReplyDelete
  47. jtv and to seem high was there are preempt on the cw last night? maybe in new york due to the "storm"

    ReplyDelete
  48. Winners: The Bachelor, Celebrity Apprentice, The Originals, Jane the Virgin, Scorpion (R), Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials

    Meh: Gotham

Losers: Sleepy Hollow, State of Affairs

Was the CW preempted? Those are very good numbers for both shows

    ReplyDelete
  49. Gotham and Sleepy Hollow are both concerning. This is low for both.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Will Gotham enter the 1s when The Voice/ DWTS returns ?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think it will hit under a 2.0 before it happens. It's not looking great. And it's why I wrote before, X-Men is not needed right now. They have to stabilize Gotham first.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Revenge and OUAT27 January 2015 at 16:12

I do Not even care. I dropped the show starting last week because IMO it is really boring

    ReplyDelete
  53. JTV and TO doing good! i like it!

    ReplyDelete
  54. ABC wastes a strong Bachelor lead-in on a repeat of Castle which came last in its timeslot. Such great scheduling there.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Great analysis. I agree.

The only thing that I would add is FOX is looking really weak on Mondays. How are they going to fix it?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Those seem like season high in viewers for both CW shows. There could have been some pre-emptions though.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Great for The Originals! Another season high!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Marc is going to be tempted to label it a winner ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. With The Following return it won't be better

    ReplyDelete
  60. They have to air Castle repeats at some point in the season since there are not enough originals to cover the entire year and they are better off saving most of them for post DWTS since Castle makes a better use of that audience for compatibility.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I like the show and I've been enjoying the later episodes more than the fall ones. But the problem is that the show doesn't know what it wants to be. I feel like it tries too much on various areas so the result is that while never bad on any of them, isn't particularly exception on one of them either. I still find it okay though.

    ReplyDelete
  62. If you're not a fan of that world, then of course you'll find it boring. Why bother even watching it unless you're a fan of DC's Gotham world?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Gotham is still very solid. It is still considerably above the league average and is a self starter against tough competition. It also has a great male following which I am sure FOX monetarizes somehow. Also, since FOX was smart enough to extend its order, it won't have a big hiatus a la Sleepy Hollow so chances are it holds better in Season 2.

As for the 9pm hour, Minority Report is all but confirmed for the slot.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Revenge and OUAT27 January 2015 at 16:19

I watch arrow and the flash so i like DC but IMO gotham is very weal

    ReplyDelete
  65. I said DC's Gotham world. The CW's DC shows are very different- more aimed towards the kind of crowd that watches the CW.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Pending adjustments and unrounded numbers, this was the CW's highest rated Monday of the season, averaging a 0.68. The previous high was a 0.62 for Week 4, when the virgin premiered.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I hope it holds in finals. Haven't watched last night's episode yet but I thought the winter premiere from last week was great so the rise is deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The Following only needs to hit about a 1.4 to show better than Sleepy Hollow due to the fact that viewership tends to do better in the Spring. So it is a very low bar for The Following. It it can't get close to a 1.4, then it's future is limited.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Good for Tzo,Jane.Lets see if it holds

    ReplyDelete
  70. TO ratings have been steady..great.Gotham pretty good in demo.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Heard this same thing months ago when it was fluctuating. So many people said it would already be in the 1's, yet that's still not the case. We'll have to see if it bounces back next week. As for what the numbers will be when The Voice and DWTS return, you can never underestimate America's love affair with crappy reality shows.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Does that have anything to do with the storms?

    ReplyDelete
  73. They only aired that ep of Scorpion a couple mths ago, yet 8.5m peeps still tuned into it again!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yup. The show seems to resonate with people.

    ReplyDelete
  75. No idea, sorry. We'll have to wait for tonights final adjusted ratings to see if there were any known/major adjustments/pre-emptions etc

    ReplyDelete

  77. The genius stuff is totally ridic half the time but its mindless fun and I find myself rooting for all the characters. plus it usually has a super cute ending each ep, lol

    ReplyDelete
  78. Could not disagree more stringently. Sleepy Hollow is a wonderful balance of funny lines, fantasy, adventure, and good characters. My biggest laughs of the week usually come from Ichabod's comments. I do not recall ever being bored watching it, unlike yourself. Hope you find yourself something worthy of your attention.

    ReplyDelete
  79. True. The plot of the week barely keeps my attention. It's the connections between the characters that I love.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Better than last week Sleepy but still sucks

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm kind of bothered by the undeserved 0.7/0.6 that Jane got.
Nothing personal to the fans, I just don't want it to make my favourite shows look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  82. prob wont last for either apparently some cw station showed sports event last night and then "There were several pre-emptions in northeastern markets due to breaking weather alerts. Expect adjustments." from tvbythenumbers

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sleepy Hollow, see the ratings went up but that still doesn't help any. Though last night's episode was an improvant, there was still a lot that needed fixing, and it wasn't all fixed in that episode. Sigh...but i'll keep hope alive.

    ReplyDelete
  84. lol...realised ...thx

    ReplyDelete
  85. Last two episodes of Gotham have been really good...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Great idea!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm happy for you, wish I could see it through your eyes, but the latest storylines and character treatment have done nothing but bore me to death :(

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hope you find something you like in the upcoming new shows.
