Looking - Looking for the Promised Land - Review: "You're Fairy Welcome"

Looking has kicked off its sophomore season last night, with “Looking for the Promised Land” and I was so happy and delighted to find the boys (and Doris) back. I’ve missing them since last year, so glad we’re getting 10 episodes this season !
“Looking for the Promised Land” was a great way to start the season, with the boys spending their weekend in the woods, at Lynn’s, recovering from the drama of last season. They needed some calm and some self reflection. Agustin really needed it, and it turned out so did Pat. But luckily Doris arrived and changed the pace and broke the calm. Thanks God for her, I couldn’t have watched Pat, Agustin and Dom playing more board games for 15 more minutes.

At first, their weekend looked like an intervention for Agustin, with Pat’s rules of no alcohol and no drugs, but with ice tea and cherries. Patrick was actually trying to distance himself from Kevin (oh so sexy Kevin). Of course, he really wanted to help his friend too, but as Agustin said, they don’t deal with things in the same way. Pat tries to be good to compensate being bad (= having an affair with Kevin). It’s quite touching, I love how he was shocked when Doris showed Agustin’s joint ! Patrick…He’s the youngest yet the most serious. But seriously, board games without alcohol,  what's wrong with him ? I was so delighted to see Doris arrive and break Pat’s pack instantly. she was already drinking !
Patrick showed that he can be quite shameless, under the influence of ecstasy. At the Promised Land, he got quite kinky, kissing a stranger but mostly calling up Kevin and getting fucked in the woods. It was a bit out of character for Patrick, but I can totally understand him, Kevin is so freaking hot and he has to experience things.
Anyways, it was nice but a bit strange for Kevin to drive at night just to fuck Patrick outside, guess he really likes him. I must say, I’m not so happy about Pat and Kevin’s relationship but I understand them. They aren’t really a couple, they don’t really have a future yet, but they enjoy their time together. And it’s good for Patrick to release the pressure and enjoy being with someone else… And as we watched, he really enjoyed it. It's true they’re really hot together, Jonathan Groff and Russell Tovey have really a great chemistry, they're very cute but I can't help but feel Kevin will end up hurting Pat.

Agustin’s part was my favorite of the episode. I really like how he has changed, but he is still himself. He’s trying to get and to be better. He's calmer, listens more to others. He has stopped being a "mediocre artist", I don’t think he was mediocre, and I still hope he can continue in his artistic path in a way or another.
But the part I like the most was his meeting with Eddie (Daniel Franzese). I love their first interaction at the gayest beach ever. They look quite different but I think Eddie can be a great asset to Agustin, he can help him grow and be a better person, less self centered. And he can even help him find his path. I’m really looking forward what comes next for Agustin and Eddie, especially how the writers will develop the trans storyline, in which Eddie works and his HIV positive. Agustin is the perfect character to deal with those stories.

Dom was a little left out during “Looking for the Promised Land”, he enjoyed his stay at Lynn’s, without him and even tried to get to know him better by going through his things, mostly though his photos albums and of course there was that painting which was hideous and wonderful at the same time.
It’s really nice to see Dom in a relationship and exploring it, he’so not self confident when it comes to feelings and getting steady with someone. It's really sweet and fun. Dom feels a bit lost, he's a bit unsecure about his relationship but it's clear he really cares for Lynn. I really hope they can work it out because it won't be easy.
Dom and Lynn chose to have an open relationship and Dom had his first try at it. It's clearly a good choice for them, it suits them and it gives them more chance at their relationship.

“Looking for the Promised Land” was an excellent episode, a great way to start the new season. The boys are still the same, having that wonderful connection and yet they have evolved so much since last year pilot. Pat, who used to be so good and nice, is now having an affair with his boss ; Dom, who used to have casual sex is now in a relationship and Agustin, who used to be a fucked up egocentric artist is trying to be better and his new friend Eddie will sure help him in that way.
I’m so enthusiastic about this new season and the new storylines, Looking has really found its pace, it really has a warm and friendly atmosphere. And the four main characters (I am including Doris) are so lovable, I really care for them. Can’t wait to see what happens next for them !

Did you enjoy “Looking for the Promised Land” ? Hit the comments !

Gay notes :

- Doris recognizing Agustin’s room because it smelled like misery ! Love that woman !
- Loved how Patrick reacted at “house in Virginia”, he’s so pure.
- “Hanging out with you guys, not so good for my vagina” Best Doris line of the episode.
- Did you miss Richie too ? Well, don’t worry he will be back next week !
