The Mentalist - Episode 6.16 - Violets - Review

NOTE: Please be advised that English is not my first language.

This season The Mentalist is giving us a lot of subtexts. Since last night's episode was full of them, I decided to separate them. First of all, the case: a man was shot and robbed by an art squad of thieves. Jane was immediately intrigued by those masked men who irrupted into John Hannigan's musuem and stole the painting - including a secret paiting where his wife was portrayed. Jane's already planned an undercover mission just as Marcus Pike, the new agent, finishes to explain the case. That doesn't impress Cho much, knowing Jane as a showman "My plan is a little more eleborate, but it's much more entertaining." "Of course it is."
I enjoyed how much Jane knows his team, most because he gave Wiley a little credit, including him in the mission; he's like his protegé, as showed in the previous episode. Wiley is like Grace Van Pelt at the very beginning.

Jane's play and everyone's roles. "Life's a show and we all play a part." From this quote taken from Buffy TVS, Jane, in his way, organizes a little play\undercover. He gives Abbott the role of a tough robber who gets to know MacKaye in the bar and gains his trust; Cho is the key man who breaks into Abbott and MacKaye, causing them to show up in another place to have some drinks - Jane and Lisbon's undercover house. Fischer is the 'face' of the plan: I laughed so much when she took the leopard-skin dress off the bag... Does Jane think that's the real Kim Fischer? Or maybe did he want to give her the fun she may have missed? So like a wizard, Jane turns Fischer into a hot Cinderella ready to seduce the thief. Lisbon, of course, plays Jane's husband\girlfriend. Easy to think that, because Jane just wants to be with her, and we know his inconscious too. Even if it's for an undercover mission, why don't try and spend some time with the woman he loves? As for Lisbon, she enjoyed her role, even tho we know Lisbon isn't that type of girl who wears tight dresses and heels... She's not even the kind of girl who flirts with everyone, so I was impressed from the moment she saw Pike at the FBI, she couldn't keep her eyes off of him. Later, at the FBI secret museum of stolen arts, she was flirting with him! Pike is just like we all imagined: smart, well looking guy, he's not bad and he knows how to get something he wants. Lisbon's feelings for Jane are a little bit complicated. She cares for Jane when she sees he's sleeping in the couch and covers him with a blanket. She stares at him, maybe thinking how does it feel to be a real couple? On the other hand, Lisbon's interest for Pike is truly genuine.

Jane's past and present love life. Jane is particulary interested in the case because of that violet's painting by Manet. He explains to the thief that the artist couldn't express in words his forbidden love for the woman he had fallen, so he did in a different way. Anyone looked at that Manet's paiting? There's a bunch of violets, a fan and a letter - anyone remembers the letters-exchanging-in-a-romantic-way between Jane and Lisbon? The victim's wife is mourning her husband, but Jane knows well how does it feel. He explains to her he's not gone forever until he rests in your heart. His wife is always a persistent presence in his life, and so Lisbon does. While now Jane can talk at open mind about mourning, he can't openly talk about his feeling for the other woman in his life. He made Lisbon to be his wife in his undercover plan, but he can't keep his eyes off of her - and even the thieves realize there's much more going on between those two. He knows he wants Lisbon, but he can't make that step ahead. When he sees Pike and Lisbon going out for a date, that's the moment when the show (or the play) ends: he comes back to reality, he sits in the couch and takes his scarf off and realizes he's a lonely man - he'll always thinks about his wife, he's ready to move on, but maybe it's too late. In other words, when you love someone, you want her to be happy... not necessary with you. I also hope Jane won't give up so early to the woman he loves: we all want Jane to fight for Lisbon's heart once for all.

Marcus Pike. I understand Lisbon's crush for this agent: he has something Jane doesn't: he won't run away. Once Pike's found what he wants (Lisbon), he goes for her. But first, he acts like a gentlemen: he asks Wiley if there's something between Jane and Lisbon - that's funny because even the nerd guy thought Jane and Lisbon were a couple! - then he makes his move. With not mince words, Pike asks her out complimenting her; Lisbon is flattered, I mean... how long didn't she date someone? Pike is direct, he doesn't use subtexts or plans like Jane. Lisbon thinks: he's a man he knows what he wants; Jane acts like a child and runs away when things get complicated. Her mind may thinks Pike's the perfect match, but what does her heart want? I guess for the moment, she needs to think about herself and what does it mean to be far from Jane. When Lisbon will realize who she is without him, that's the moment when she'll realize what her heart wants and always wanted - Jane.

What do you think about Marcus Pike? How will Jane deal with Pike and Lisbon's relationship? Share your comments below.

Glee "100" and "New Directions" Review and Favorite Song Polls: All Good Things Come to an End

Glee’s “100” episode is actually the first episode in a two part sequence completed with “New Directions” and it’s truly the end of an era as we see New Directions disbanded. “100,” which is also the 100th episode, was written by the creative team of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan and was directed by regular Paris Barclay. “New Directions” was also kept firmly in the control of the creators as it was both written and directed by Brad Falchuk. No doubt this is why these two episode really felt like they were a return to the best the show can offer us. I kept thinking that this ending/beginning is how the creative team wanted to handle the end of season three.

It was fantastic to see so many of the original cast back, some of whom will now be joining the regular cast again in New York. Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera) are back together. Arte (Kevin McHale), Sam (Chord Overstreet), and Blaine (Darren Criss) are all moving to the big apple. While it was sweet and poignant – especially for Rachel (Lea Michele) – to see Puck (Mark Salling) and Quinn (Diana Agron) reunite as a super couple, I’m still disappointed that there is little chance that we will see them again. Salling’s voice was as sweet as ever in these episodes.

We are also saying goodbye to the “new” New Directions cast: Jake (Jacob Artist), Marley (Melissa Benoist), Ryder (Blake Jenner), and Unique (Alex Newell). Presumably, we may still see Kitty (Becca Tobin) as she’s still going out with Arte. I am glad to see the end of Newell, who never impressed me. Benoist and Artist will be missed for their talent and I don’t feel we ever got enough of Jenner to really see his potential.

I was happy to see Artist get to show off some of his dancing talent in the number with Brittany, Santana, and Mike Chan (Harry Shum Jr). I was annoyed by the continued use of cuts in the number, however. I think they need to go back and watch some Fred Astaire movies to learn how to film a good dance sequence! These kids can dance – and I want to see it!

Other people we are going to lose going forward include Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) – who finally gets some much deserved screen time in these last few episodes. Jayma Mays has already bugged out to another series, but we also say good bye to Will (Matthew Morrison) and Sue (Jane Lynch). Lynch, of course, has a number of other projects and her own show in Hollywood Game Night. Sue, for me, had long ago run her course – she just wasn’t funny anymore, so it was actually great to see her end her run on the series on a serious note.

I loved the film they make for Will and Emma’s baby, and it’s fitting that the original cast starts “Don’t Stop Believing” and is then joined by the newer members.

While I never particularly cared for either the character of April (Kristin Chenoweth) or Holly (Gwyneth Paltrow), it was nice to see them back as they were popular guest stars. Chenoweth is impossible not to like on some level – even as the horrid Apirl! – and delivers some great performances. Paltrow, I thought, was terrible, especially in “100.” I loved seeing Chase Crawford (Biff McIntosh – the apple prince!) play Quinn’s new boyfriend, who just happens to be an hilarious version of his character from Gossip Girl.

This episode sees everyone truly moving on. Rachel and Santana finally settle their feud by Santana dropping out as Rachel’s understudy. Poor Rivera must get whiplash with how often they shift her character between good and bad! However, I have hope that we can actually move forward with the show from highschool and deal with more mature storylines.

What did you think of the episodes? Were you happy to see the old gang back? Will you be sad to see some of the characters go? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to vote for your favorite songs from the episodes in the polls!

Intelligence 1.12 "The Event Horizon" Review: What Makes Us Human - Part One

Intelligence, “The Event Horizon,” was written by the team of Executive Producer Barry Schindel and showrunner/creator Michael Seitzman and was directed by Russell Lee Fine. Fine has experience with this type of show with past credits White Collar, Hostages, and Graceland. This episode is the first half of the season one finale and Seitzman and Schindel will also be penning the next and final episode of the season. It’s always great to have those first and last episodes written by the creator, so that characters especially can be pulled back on track. We still have no word on whether the show will be back for a second season, so it will be interesting to see how they wrap up this two-partner – will it end on a cliff hanger or will they tie up most of the loose ends?

An event horizon is the boundary in spacetime beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. It’s also the point of no return at which point the gravitational pull toward a black hole becomes inescapable. It seems most likely we are to view the renders that Gabriel (Josh Holloway) shares with Mei Chen (Faye Kingslee) as the event horizon of the title. The question becomes has he entered the path to her black hole or has she entered his? Gabriel is able to bring others in with him, however, to trap Mei Chen.

While the case at the heart of the episode was pretty easy to unravel, the episode is memorable for giving us lots of the characters we’ve come to know – and in my case, love. I loved watching Lillian (Marg Hellgenberger) facing off against Weatherly (Tomas Arana) and Tetazoo (Lance Reddick). We see them finally oust Lillian from Cyber Com. Weatherly is still willing to entertain the possibility that Gabriel is innocent, so it’s possible he will be an ally going forward. She’s still able to rely on her team, however.

I loved the scene in the diner when they order milkshakes. Nelson (PJ Byrne) of course, orders chocolate, Shenendoah (John Billingsley) orders strawberry, Jameson (Michael Rady) orders vanilla, and Lillian, surprisingly orders butterscotch. Their choices are a nice reflection of their personalities, and I liked that Jameson and Nelson balanced each other. I really like how this show adds layers to its characters. Lillian’s butterscotch is playful and humanizes her much like her nickname, Rooster.

Lillian also relies on her father, Leland (Peter Coyote). He gives her advice, but I don’t trust him after his last appearance. I don’t think he’d put her in danger, but I also don’t think that at the end of the day he’s going to stick up for her. I have to wonder if he is actually part of the mysterious “Flood” at the heart of the frame up. Or perhaps he’s using her to get to the bottom of it. Lillian’s one weakness may be that she does care about her team, and especially Gabriel. Rooster may seem like a silly shout out to Lillian’s red hair, but it also shows that Leland think of her as equal to a man, and roosters are the ones to announce the coming of the day – he can rely on Lillian to shake things up and say what’s going on. I would bet that Leland is the one to send the shooter to the meet up, however. He tries to tell Lillian she’ll get nothing from Mei Chen and to be careful. I’ll be very surprised if he isn’t the one who either hired Mei Chen or at least knew about it.

Gabriel and Riley (Meghan Ory) are forced to go on the run, but not before they are interrogated. Weatherly interrogates Riley. She is annoyed that they are even suspecting Gabriel. She tells Weatherly that to her loyalty means support, dedication, and commitment – and those are the things that she gives to Gabriel throughout the episode. She also clarifies that “He’s not my client, he’s my partner.” This points to a huge divide as to how the various factions think of Gabriel. Riley, Shenendoah, Nelson, Jameson, and even Lillian see him as human. Weatherly sees him only as an asset, and Tetazoo sees him as a robot/cyborg as a dangerous weapon who can’t be controlled. While other’s value Gabriel’s humanity, it does mean that he has something a robot doesn’t have: free will. When Gabriel calls himself a robot, Riley punches him and he says “ow” – leading her to point out that robots don’t say “ow” – they don’t have feelings.

Weatherley had concerns about Riley, that she was a woman and would form an emotional bond with Gabriel. It has nothing to do with her being a woman, but with being a human being that she forms attachments with other people. Weatherly also brings up her killing her mother’s boyfriend. He points out that she killed to defend her mother not save herself and he wonders how far she would go to protect Gabriel.

I liked that they addressed the inherent will they/won’t they and that Lillian speaks up to say it’s a sexist consideration. I liked that Nelson jumps to that conclusion with a “Shut up!” that Gabriel immediately also squashes. While the two have undeniable chemistry, I prefer them not going that route – not that it would prevent me from watching is they did go down that road.

It’s interesting that Riley is most often the one to make the big leaps in breaking the case. She’s the one who figures out from the crime scene that Gabriel couldn’t have done it. She is also the first one to jump to Mei Chen. This was one part of the episode that I did find weak. It was pretty obvious that it was her to me.

Once again the episode does draw some really interesting parallels between Mei Chen and Gabriel. Mei Chen is alone while Gabriel is surrounded by people who care about him. She is desperate for contact with someone who is the same as she is. She sees herself as more powerful. She tries to turn him against his friends because she thinks they are hunting him – but his friends aren’t. She asks him if he gets lonely and he confesses that he does. While he’s clearly playing her, this felt like a moment of truth. He is pushed to escape primarily at the moment that Tetazoo threatens to remove the chip. Gabriel has stated that he doesn’t want to lose the chip. Even though it makes him different, it’s now a part of him and how he sees the world. Gabriel tells Mei Chen that she’s alone because that was her decision, but she reminds him that she didn’t choose to have the chip implanted – it was forced upon her.

Gabriel is shot, and Tetazoo and his men show up. But Tetazoo denies controlling the shooter. Gabriel believes it’s Lillian. Mei Chen knows it’s a trap because she was hired by the government to frame him.  The episode ends before we learn who hired her.

As always I loved the scenes with Nelson and Shenendoah. When they reach the house and see Gabriel’s note to come to the workshop, Nelson insists his father get behind him so he can protect him, only to have Shenendoah do the same thing until he can prove Gabriel is in control. I loved Shenendoah getting upset because there isn’t a clearer way to say the technical stuff. I know some find the comic touches from Byrne and Billingsley take them out of the show, I find it adds to it, providing a respite from the tension. Byrne and Billingsley shine in every episode because they can play both comic and serious convincingly. It also humanizes them – something that is woven right into the series’ main theme.

I’m betting we find that Leland hired Mei Chen and that Lillian and Tetazoo will now work together to bring Gabriel in safely. A quick shout out to the whole team who really brought their A-games to their performances this week. I adore Ory in this role and it's an embarrassment of riches to have a show with two strong female leads as Helgenberger is also terrific. What did you think of part one? How much did you enjoy Gabriel bashing Tetazoo’s head into the table? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Hart of Dixie - Episode 3.15 - Ring of Fire - Review: A Faire Time for All

This week BlueBell took a step back in time with a Renaissance Faire. Lemon juggled dating two guys as she tried to figure out which one she wanted to keep. Lavon was still finding ways to occupy himself now that he and AB are not together. Joel and Zoe hired George to represent them in a lawsuit. Wade’s plans to celebrate his three-month anniversary with Vivian didn’t go exactly as he has planned.

Queen of Hearts. Lemon has been enjoying the attention of both of her suitors, Carter and Enrique. She struggles trying to decide who she wants to date exclusively afraid that she’ll make the wrong decision. While dating two men at once may have it perks, it also has its drawbacks when Lemon passes out from exhaustion. Meanwhile, the people of BlueBell seem to be a little burnt out on Lavon’s fest spree and aren’t flocking to the Renaissance Festival. Lavon goes to AnnaBeth for help to convince Lemon to allow her suitors to duel over her as the main event. After Zoe advises Lemon to take a break from men or die from exhaustion, Lemon talks her boyfriends into fighting for her. Meatball finally seeing his chance to win Lemon, scares both Carter and Enrique into not showing up. Lemon urges Lavon to do something when it appears that Meatball is going to win by default. Lavon enters the contest and wins without any real effort. At the party, Lemon and Lavon dance while talking about Lemon finding the right man. They decide to separate when they see AnnaBeth enter the Rammer Jammer. AnnaBeth may not be lonely for long after all since she met a mystery knight at the party.

AnnaBeth was the highlight for me. She definitely doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to Lavon and pointing out how ridiculous it was for him to go to her to talk 2 men into fighting for Lemon. I found Lemon’s storyline of dating both men annoying. I am happy that at the end of the episode she said goodbye to both of them since neither is the right fit for her. Lavon and Lemon seemed to have a moment while they were dancing and talking. AB is always going to be between them so I was happy to see that they were thinking of her when she entered the Rammer Jammer. I really can’t see anything happening with Lemon and Lavon in the future especially because of AB. It is still nice to see Lavon and Lemon as friends and working together. And Lemon still needs to find her Mr. Right.

Lawyer George is Back. Zoe and Joel hire George to represent them when Chicken Truitt sues them after falling off of a ladder while working in their house. Joel is concerned that George isn’t at the top of his game since he fell apart the last time he and Tansy broke up. He talks to the Truitts on his own to try to settle out of court. Chicken is willing to settle for $50 and a date with AB, but since the other Truitt brothers know that Joel is coming into money since his book sold to Warner Brothers they aren’t willing to settle. While assuring Zoe that he is perfectly fine, George manages to slight the opposing counsil who overheard his remarks. She sets up a meeting with George to try to settle out of court and for him to hear Lily Ann’s latest song, “Unlucky Tucky”, which is about how George always loses. Hearing that George left and checked into the Shamrock Motel, Zoe and Joel become concerned about the outcome of their case and talk AB into going out with Chicken. AB is ultimately stood up when the brothers prevent Chicken from meeting AB for their date. Zoe is ready to practice her “Legally Blonde” lawyer skills just as George shows up ready for battle although a little late. In no time, the case is thrown out as being nothing but a nuisance lawsuit. And George Tucker is back and ready to kick ass. Joel also learns that he needs to leave for Los Angeles for 6 months.

The best part of this storyline was George coming into the court room. It has been too long since we’ve really seen George in full on lawyer mode. It was great to see that despite all of the other shenanigans going on, the other lawyer’s antics didn’t shake George one bit. The lawsuit itself was a silly storyline for Joel and Zoe. It seems like him leaving for Los Angeles is a set up for Joel and Zoe to break up eventually which has been a long time coming.

Save the Goat. Wade has his three-month anniversary with Vivian all planned which includes a yacht cruise around Mobile Bay. His plans are thrown off when he learns that Vivian’s babysitter isn’t available. Little Harley is known for being quite the terror amongst babysitters so Wade offers to pay Rose a lot of money for her to agree to watch him. Rose and Harley are walking by an animal pen when they overhear that a baby goat is going to be turned into stew which compels them to steal the goat. Wade and Vivian’s date is cut short when he hears the news. He agrees to keep the goat and find it a new and safer home. Wade has to break his promise when Lavon gets complaints about the goat being stolen forcing Wade to return it. The next day Harley is upset when he sees the goat back at its original home. While Vivian distracts the owner, Wade and Harley quickly nab the goat. Wade finds the goat a new home with Tom and Wanda.

First, where is the real Wade Kinsella? He is getting lost in this relationship. While I appreciate that he is maturing and being an excellent boyfriend, his personally is disappearing week by week. Little Harley is getting on my last nerve and so is Vivian with her thinking everything the kid does is cute. Once Joel leaves, hopefully these two follow shortly behind. Wade had the most chemistry with the baby goat than with anyone else in this episode. And we caught a glimpse of his usually charming and playful self with the goat in Lavon’s kitchen.

Final Thoughts. This episode was just a mess for me. It had everything in it that I hate about this season. Too much was going on while the core cast mostly seemed to be off in their own storylines or with guest stars. Zoe was a doctor for a brief moment with Lemon which was a nice change to see. AB also seems to have found her spunk. And there was a hint that she is going to find romance again soon. I hope Lawyer George is here to stay. I would like Lemon to find Mr. Right, but he isn’t Lavon. And I want her to start focusing on something more than just her love life. There is so much more to Lemon than just that. Hopefully Joel’s stay in LA hints at an eventual break up. Mostly this was just a filler episode for me. I’m still waiting for something to actually happen this season. Week after week it just seems to be yet more of the same silly antics and no real depth or emotion.

Would you like to see Lemon and Lavon give it a go? Who is AB’s mystery knight? Do you think that Joel and Zoe can survive a long distance relationship? Isn’t it great to have Lawyer George back? Can Joel take Vivian and Little Harley with him to CA?

Tune back in next week on Friday, April 11, to see Joel bid farewell to BlueBell. The three amigos, Lemon, George, and Wade, will be working together as Wade is stuck in the middle between Lemon and George. And BlueBell gets a visit from its sister French town.

Scandal - Episode 3.15 - Mama Said Knock You Out - Review

Welcome back Scandalites! I’m happy to say this week’s episode was a lot calmer in terms of tears cried (0) but of course there was plenty of drama to keep us appeased. Let’s dive in, shall we!

We open to Liv trying to convince a Matt Lauer type to push an interview he has scheduled with the Grant family. However, the interview is scheduled to begin in 60 minutes so Mat Lauer v.2 isn't really up to push a live interview. Turns out something super dramatic has happened (I'm so shocked) and Liv is trying to keep the Grant kids from acting a fool on live television.

Cut to 24 Hours Earlier.

The elusive older Grant children have returned to the White House to film a special family interview in hopes of giving Fitz's campaign a much needed boost. Let's just say Liv trying to wrangle Jerry and Karen is super super awkward. She goes to them and tells them they need to talk. I can imagine it must be pretty strange for her especially since she's having relations with their dad.

 photo justin-timerlake_zps3af9adfe.gif

Meanwhile, Fitz and Mellie are giving each other serious pep talks. Turns out they're only hyping each other up to speak to their children (who are really only mentioned in passing.) Despite the constant absence of their older children, it's pretty obvious that the White House shenanigans have completely effed up these kids. Fitz awkwardly tries to start a conversation with his son/maybe brother and when it fails he says "At the end of the day, let's just remember that we love each other.  They’re like..Yea sure dad. WHATEVER.

Back at Pope & Assoc., the gladiators are busy trying to find a way to bring down B6-13. They are trying to find a source of their budget and aren't coming up with much. Huck is obviously against the entire idea and is convince they're on a suicide mission. “We don’t take down B6-13," he says, "You run, you hide, or you die". I can't help but agree with him. He's also busy trying to save Quinn's life but Liv is totally against it.

Speaking of the disgraced gladiator, Quinn stupidly told Charlie about her little rendezvous with Huck while conveniently leaving out the part about them making out. She seems to forget that he's a crazy person that is literally trained to know when people are lying to him. Quinn keeps tripping over her story and mixing up stories and Charlie is totally on to her ass. He asks if she wants him to kill Huck for her. She quickly says no and he seems to drop it. Meaning he hasn't dropped shit. Oh Quinn...

 photo you_lose_gif-392_zpsd277308d.gif

While this whole exchange was going down, we see that Quinn and Charlie are holding some guy named Dimitri i.e. the guy Mama Pope was anxious to meet a few episodes. Turns out Dimitri is some Russian mobster that entered the country illegally a few days ago. Fitz is trying to learn more information about him but he's told that Dimitri just vanished. He asks if he was picked up by another agency and they tell him no. And we've already confirmed that B6-13 has him.

Liv is with Fitz still trying to learn more about her maybe future stepkids (haha, NOT) but he isn't having it. He takes her to their secret corner in the Oval and start making out. "Can we not discuss my kids right now," he says as he zips up her skirt. WHAT?!?!

And since the White House should change it's same to the Extramarital Affair Sex House, Mellie and Andrew are also getting it in. She tries to pull away from him saying, “Andrew, my children are here”. But he begins to do some things and she quickly forgets that her kids could walk in on her at any time.

 photo eyebrowraise_zps1986c445.gif
This moment doesn't deserve the TSwift GIF. They are being reckless and messy.

After Liv's little afternoon delight with Fitz, she seeks out Jerry and Karen again to speak with them about the interview. Jerry begins to ask very specific questions about how many people will be watching (by Liv's estimation, over 15 million) and asks  “If I say something stupid, can I take it back.” "No, you can't take it back." she says warily and immediately thinks something is up.

She calls Abby and tells her they're dropping by the B6-13 takedown for the time being and they need to look into the kids. "Why? Are they funding B6-13?" Abby quips (btw I've been LOVING her one liners lately.) "No," Liv says, "But we need to get to know them before the rest of America does." Liv hangs up the phone and sees Mellie coming out of a room with a smile on her face, she’s about to follow after her when Andrew leaves the room soon after and is straightening his tie. Look familiar Liv? Since she is so blindly oblivious to the situation, she tells Andrew to leave Mellie alone. "The last thing this campaign needs is another sex scandal," she says. Andrew looks at her pointedly and just says, "Glass houses Olivia."

 photo tumblr_m2qjbjeUl11qe2c25_zps030f2619.gif

Since this part of the episode is the Liv gets her ass handed to her section, her dad calls her up and tells her to stop looking into B6-16. Her inquiries are drawing attention and he's had to use a lot of old connects to smooth things over. “We both know what B6-13 does to it’s enemies," he says, "Stop this game, Olivia” Liv isn't convinced (oh girl) and she still wants to know where they get their money from but Papa Pope is all about living, so he hangs up on her.

Meanwhile, Mellie is with Karen trying to pick out “innocent colors”  for their interview. Mellie tries to strike up conversation with her daughter but Karen isn't down for small talk. Karen basically says that Fitz is a loser and wants to know why she's still with him. "He's a cheater," Karen says to her mom who just finished up her own sexy time. Mellie tells Karen that everyone isn't perfect.....Guilty conscience alert.

We then cut to Mama Pope pacing around her swank hotel room. She's upset that Dimitri is MIA and Adnan not so casually suggests they drop the whole thing. I've already suspected that Adnan is all bark and no bite, but girlfriend might want to be careful around Liv's insane mom. Mama Pope knows what's up and informs Adnan she knows she's looking for a way out. "But there isn't one," she says. "It's just you and me".

 photo tumblr_lxi1ahSqPS1r9ahfuo1_400_zps159e3976.gif
Mama Pope is on that Mariah Carey type ish

Speaking of crazies, Charlie is still trying to figure out what happened with Quinn and Huck that night at her apartment. Quinn is annoyed by his constant questions and seems to be surprised that Charlie isn't dropping it.

 photo akilahtweet_zpsc3f78b98.jpg'
My thoughts exactly. Also please follow Akilah on twitter. She is absolutely hilarious!

Charlie then says he wants her to move in with him so Huck will stop bothering her. She tries to persuade him that forceful co-habitation is not necessary but he's not budging.  She then tries to woo him with her drilling skills. We see Dimitri on the floor covered in blood. She takes the drill and yells “I want answers you son of a bitch” before drilling into some unseen part of the poor guy's body.

Pope & Assoc. discovers that Jerry is running twitter account littered with Anti-Grant propaganda including a badly photoshopped pic of Fitz as Hitler. Huck re-routed the IP address so it can't be traced to Jerry and also shuts it down. Liv immediately tells Fitz and Fitz starts going through Jerry's things and finds a "Reston for President" t-shirt!! I'm just glad the kid has enough sense not to support Sally's crazy ass. Jerry is screaming that his dad is invading his privacy and how Fitz can't go through his things.  Karen is watching the whole scene and says she's going to tell Mellie. She runs out the room but not before slamming into Liv's shoulder. Liv has a oh know this bitch didn't look on her face but quickly runs after Karen since Mellie has had some very interesting extracurricular activities lately. Sure enough, Liv walks into to Karen running away from her mother's office upset and Mellie is running after her with her dress around her shoulders! And Andrew is in the background adjusting his pants!!!!

 photo anigif_enhanced-17036-1395872318-2_zps4414136f.gif

Liv tries to jump in and tell Mellie to run after Karen. I get that Liv is supposed to be a fixer but homegirl really needs to learn her place. Mellie snaps on Liv immediately."Karen is my daughter!" Mellie yells, "and I will take care of it!" Therefore marking the third time that Liv has gotten shaded/yelled at/ verbally abused in this episode.

Before she can really react, she gets a phone call from Harrison saying Adnan is at the office and she wants help. Adnan wants help because she's figured out that Mama Pope is uh duh CRAZY! Liv tells Adnan tough cookies because she should've known what she was getting into by dealing with a known terrorist. But Harrison wants to do this for Adnan because he owes her a favor. Liv reluctantly agrees but Adnan says she won't give up any information until she has immunity. So now David is getting pulled into the mix...again.

Mellie is trying to smooth things over with Karen but the poor child is obviously tramautized. She's packing a bag and wants to leave the White House of horrors (can't blame her there).  Mellie tries to tell her she's not going anywhere but Karen yells “You were on your knees with Uncle Andrew! I was wrong, you've been the cheater all along." Mellie tells her she's being dramatic (uh, no she's not) but Karen is just like get out of my room mom! I hate you etc etc etc.

 photo post-9531-Schmidt-YOUTHS-gif-New-Girl-Im-bjVd_zps8e579d61.gif

But really, can you blame Karen for her reaction. Walking in on your parents mid-sexy time is bad enough but walking in on your mom with your play uncle?!?! Hello therapist bills.

Fitz has summoned Jake and tells him he wants Dimitri back. Jake plays stupid and begins talking in hypothetical terms but Fitz doesn't really have time for games. "I'm Commander in Chief," Fitz yells. "And I am Command," Jake shoots back. “I am Command which means you don’t tell me do anything. I am not your bitch.  You look pretty, you don’t do anything. I decide if America sleeps at night. This is not a game, Mr. President.” Btw that was complete paraphrasing but Jake pretty much told Fitz that

 photo WbaGC_zpsb05849a0.gif

Meanwhile, Cyrus comes up to poor long-suffering Lauren and asks who Fitz is meeting with. He walks into the oval, pauses for a moment, then takes a vase from a table and launches it at Jake!!!

Cyrus came in like a wrecking ball!!!

Jake stops him and puts him in a chokehold. Cyrus tries to get another chance to attack, but Fitz stops him this time. “HE KILLED MY HUSBAND! HE KILLED JAMES!” Leaving us wondering, how the hell does Cyrus know?  Fitz is having a tough time holding Cyrus. so a ton of Secret Service men run in and restrain him. “I think I should go,” Jake says. NO SHIT SHERLOCK. He looks at Cyrus with all seriousness and says “I’m sorry for your loss.”

 photo helltotheno_zpsd7fe73a3.gif

Congrats Scandal writers, if you were trying to get me to hate Jake, you are definitely doing your job.

Cyrus tells Fitz that James lived world where the VP of the US could kill her husband in cold blood and not get away with it. He lived in a fairy tale. "I suppose Jake was just doing his job," Cyrus sighs,   "Serving at the pleasure of the president just like the rest of us." Cyrus can't seriously blame this on Fitz can he? He seems to forget that he was the one that pimped James out and put him in the situation in the first place! I really need Cyrus to acknowledge his role in James' death before the season is over. You've got 3 episodes to address this writers!!!!

Anyways, Liv is walking into the White House and gets a call from her mom. "I want Adnan back," she says. Liv mumbles something about her mom being a terrorist and such, which makes me wonder how the hell anyone can utter those words outside the White House and not get attacked by a gaggle of Secret Service. But I digress... Mama Pope isn't phased by Liv's disdain. "I'd rather be a traitor that what you are Livvie," she says. "You're nothing but the help and you don't even know it."Not much Liv can say to that and then Mama Pope says, "I'm going to stay out of your business. As long as you stay out of mine."

 photo LCyikes_zps5461503f.gif
Shots fired!

Back at Pope &. Assoc., Adnan is confronting Harrison about ditching her. He claims he left her to avoid a lengthy prison sentence. Harrison tells her that the deal he's making with David means they are even and she needs to leave them the hell alone afterwards. Adnan then takes her panties off and sits down “Are we even?” she says and  they begin to initiate ex-sex.

Liv is trying to convince Mellie to continue with the interview because it's going to be live and not doing it would send a very bad message to the American people. Mellie wants her to push it though and yells at her to fix it because that's what they're paying her to do. Liv begrudgingly agrees but it looks as if her mothers' harsh words are getting to hear. Harsh truths make for harsh realties. She goes to talk to Jerry and Karen when Fitz walks in and notices they're not dressed for the interview. "We're not doing the interview," Karen says defiantly. Fitz thinks they're still mad at him for all this muck ups. "Well do it out respect for your mother," he says. Awkward glances all around and Liv is looking at Karen like

 photo tumblr_ld7bwdJ5bD1qeplj6o1_400_zps379b6283.gif

"She doesn't respect you," Karen says ignoring the laser beams Liv is pointing at her, "I saw her with Uncle Andrew, it was gross." Fitz storms out of the room with Liv trailing behind him. "Don't do this!" she says, "Don't do anything stupid." He wants to know how long she's known and she said she was going to tell him right after the interview. Fitz finds Andrew in some meeting and PUNCHES HIM IN THE FACE!!!!

Like WTF? photo tumblr_mrfu1jPy5J1ran7b9o2_250_zps51fa9c5f.gif

What the hell Fitz???!?!?! First of all, ummm hello pot meet kettle. Take kettle out to dinner. Marry kettle then cheat on kettle. Second, you can't just walk around punching bitches all willy nilly!! You're the freaking PRESIDENT!! Thankfully, there was a commercial break in the middle of all of this so I could gather my thoughts and pick my jaw off of the floor.

We're treated to a lovely Charlie/Quinn scene right after the break. They're meeting with Jake and he asks if they got any information from Dimitri. They say yes and begin to leave, but Jake asks Quinn to say behind. Charlie looks annoyed and suspicious, meaning he most likely stayed to listen at the door. It seems as if Jake sent Quinn to meet with Huck to find out what he wants. He was going around punching B6-13 agents earlier in the episode so I guess Jake wants to know what the deal is.

“What do you want Huck,” she asks.  “I want him to let you go. I want you out of B6-13. I want you safe” Huck replies. "Last week you wanted to kill me, what’s changed?" Quinn retorts.  “You put your tongue in my mouth and now I deserve to live.” and then she licks his face. Once again Huck wastes a great opportunity to choke a bitch and instead they start making out again! It is so gross and so wrong.

 photo grossestkissofalltime_zps287405e1.gif
I think they've officially out-grossed these guys.

She suddenly pushes him away and wipes her mouth.  And of course we know that Charlie was watching from somewhere and someone is gonna die.

Adnan and Harrison are still hooking up at the office. “I never would’ve turned on you,” she says and then injects him with something!! “And now let’s call it even” DONT EVER TRUST A LONG LOST KARDASHIAN.

Jake is still on his high horse so he goes to meet with Rowan and Daddy Pope just wants to know what he wants. “What you need to do is stay out of my business” Jake replies. He's getting too big for his britches so Daddy Pope has to let him know bout his shit. “YOU’RE ALONE!” We are not equals and nor will we ever be. You are alone….was there something else you wanted to ask me?" Jake just looks at him then says, "Thank you for reminding me that when I decide to kill you, I need to do it all by myself.”

 photo oprahsaywhat_zps7264d70c.gif
One does not simply threaten Daddy Pope and get away with it.

Back at the White House, Mellie and Fitz go into a room after Fitz  punched Andrew. You can bet that some real life shit is going to go down. Andrew is following closely behind them, but Liv stops him and tells him the needs to get out of town. At first he looks at her like she's crazy and says that it's not some lurid affair but somehow Liv manages to convince him to leave town for a while and say that he got the black eye from playing tennis with Fitz. That's a good story and all, but what about all the people that were in the room with him when Fitz clocked him??!?!

Anyways, Fitz is taking this time to completely shame Mellie and ask her why she could sleep with Andrew. "How long have you been screwing Andrew?," he asks. It seems as if he thinks their affair started after Jerry was born because Mellie was so distant afterwards. But Fitz obviously doesn't know what really happened to Mellie. She tries to speak up but he shuts her down. "Don’t play the victim now. I am saying you ruined our marriage. You killed us. I would have never have cheated. I spent 10 years with a wife that wouldn’t touch me." Of course Liv is listening at the door!!!!!!!!!

Mellie finally gets a chance to speak and says that she's given up her life for him and that he doesn't know what she's done to get him to the White House.  “All you’ve done is denied me love and schemed to have power.” He says, "What have you lost?!?!” He keeps yelling at her and Liv walks in and tries to interrupt. “We need to focus on the interview” Liv says but he keeps asking Mellie what she’s lost and Liv tries to interrupt again.  “I’M TALKING TO MY WIFE” Fitz screams at Liv, she looks at him and then walks away. He tries to chase after her saying sorry and Mellie just walks away. And guys, she was TOTALLY about to tell him what happened with his dad when Liv walked in.

 photo 214-timing-is-everything-spencer-bridgeteeski_zps50b68324.gif
Terrible, terrible timing there Olivia

Since this is the 10010000th time Liv has been yelled at, she is over it all and is leaving the White House. Cyrus chases after her and says he hates to play the dead husband card, but he really needs her help. “Tell me we’re not the help," She sighs, "I’m not some maid with a mop in my hands cleaning up messes when they ring the bell.” Cyrus doesn't sugar coat it and tells her they essentially are the help. He does try to make it better though. He tells her what they do is important and that James died for a reason (yea having a hard time buying that one). "Do the job for both of us." he says, "It’s not just that family you’re putting back together. It’s the hole damn country."

 photo tumblr_m08j8tLL9D1qb9pa3o1_500_zps609c74b2.gif
Basically the pep talk from The Help

Liv takes Cyrus' pep talk to heart and goes back into the White House to finish her job. Fitz is waiting for her and tries to apologize and be all cute. But she shuts him down. "Save that regret for your children and your wife," she snaps. "I am at work and this is my job. I can not afford to fail at my job right now because it is all that I have left.” Fitz listens to Liv and goes to Mellie. They're a united front as they go to talk to their kids, who are going to need years of therapy after this. “Are you here to yell at us?” Jerry asks. Fitz shakes his head and the close the door and hopefully have a very serious come to Jesus meeting.

Meanwhile, Quinn comes home with her rendezvous no.2 with Huck and Charlie is there! Turns out he moved in without her knowing. “You get to keep the apartment and I get to keep my eye on you." he says with an evil gleam in his eye. We already know that Quinn is stupid but I really feel like this needs to be said:

 photo Antoine-Dodson-Dumb_zps9f47eced.gif
He obviously knows about her little make out sessions with Huck.

Back at Pope & Assoc., Abby and David are walking in and he's saying that's the last time he grants immunity to an enemy of the state. Abby begins calling for Harrison. She finds him passed out on the floor of his office and thankfully he's still alive. Turns out Adnan's plea for help was a rouse to steal information about Fitz's campaign!!!! We see her telling Mama Pope that she has everything from Fitz's schedule to detailed information about his security detail!!!! We also see that B6-13 is watching from a distance, they probably learned about the meeting after Quinn/Charlie tortured Dimitri. An agent says they have the chance to kill or capture. But Jake says no, let's see how it plays out!!!!! It looks as if he's going to let something happen to Fitz out of jealousy/insanity/who knows!?!?!

 photo anigif_enhanced-buzz-16202-1369154963-6_zps03d07fd5.gif
I'm so over Jake's craziness right now.

It seems as if things have finally calmed down between the Grants as they sit down for their interview. Olivia is all smiles and all about business but you can tell this is killing her. Cyrus is watching the interview from home and we FINALLY get to see adorable little Zora. She is so cute toddling around him and it almost makes me cry, but I stayed strong! Right as the interview is wrapping up, Daddy Pope calls Liv and tells her that B6-13 is funded by every government agency. "Why are you helping me," she asks. "Despite everything, we're family" He says and end scene.

SCANDAL TALLY
NUMBER OF TIMES JAKE ACTED CRAZY : 3+
NUMBER OF TIMES LIV GOT YELLED AT BY HER MARRIED BF: 1
NUMBER OF TIMES DADDY POPE WAS ACTUALLY A GOOD FATHER: 1

NEXT WEEK: Ish is going down!! Everyone is yelling at Liv including Andrew and yep, Fitz. Apparently things are crashing down all around her. At the end of the preview, Jake shows up at her door on the phone and asks her to come in. She says no and he starts pounding on the door like a crazy person and yelling for her to let him in?!?!?!?!?! Annnnnd Jake has finally completely lost it. :(

So what did you think of last night's episode? It was a welcome break from all the sadness and there were OMG moments aplenty. Sound off in the comments below!
