Ratings Breakdown:
Note: The 10 p.m. hour last night featured the series-finale of drama “Sons of Anarchy” on FX.

CBS led the overnight Tuesday troops with its atypical line-up of annual animated holiday special “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (#2: 5.9 rating/9 share), a 9 p.m. encore telecast of “NCIS” (#1: 6.5/10), and annual “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” (#1: 5.8/10). Comparably, beloved “Rudolph” tied its year-ago telecast in the hour (on 11/26/13), and that translated into 11.30 million viewers and a 3.0 rating/9 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data (which should be enough to beat NBC’s competing “The Voice” in the demo). “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” was also on par from one year earlier (on 12/10/13), and that 5.8 in the overnights translated into 9.72 million viewers and a 3.4/10 in the demo.

Over at NBC, “The Voice” was solid (and dominant) at a 7.3/11 in the household overnights at 8 p.m. But 9-10 p.m. Peacock net comedies “Marry Me” (#3: 3.3/ 5) and sophomore “About a Boy” (#3: 2.7/ 4) continued to squander the lead-in support. And a 10 p.m. NBC News special, “Angelina Jolie: Unbroken,” scored an unimpressive (and last place) 3.3/ 6.

Most improved for the night remained The CW care of bona fide freshman hit “The Flash” (#4: 3.1/ 5 at 8 p.m.), which managed to increase by one-tenth of a rating point (or three percent) from the cross-over with “Arrow” last week, and veteran “Supernatural” (#5: 1.7/ 3 at 9 p.m.).

Elsewhere, an encore of ABC animated special “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” (#5: 2.8/ 4 at 8 p.m.) led into a second-place 3.5/ 5 for “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” at 9 p.m., which should be enough to get some traction in the key young adult demos. But a 3.7/ 6 (#2) for freshman drama “Forever” at 10 p.m., which is a slight improvement, will only likely translate into a 1.2 (or a 1.3) rating among adults 18-49.

Fox, meanwhile, has wisely plugged up the troubled Tuesday 8 p.m. hour with young adult demo friendly “MasterChef Junior” (#3: 3.5/ 5). But the 9-10 p.m. comedy pairing of “New Girl” (#4: 2.4/ 4) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.9/ 3) just do not resonate. A fourth season of “The Mindy Project,” however, is likely because of the need for more episodes in off-network.
