New Girl - Review - "LAXmas"

Hi everyone, I hope you enjoyed last night's New Girl because I think that is it until the next year. I thought "LAXmas" brought out the best in the gang, showcased by their plight to get Jess to London even if that meant not making their own respective trips. The exchange with Cece and Schmidt at the terminal restaurant was sweet and simple. Schmidt was looking for the acknowledgement that just maybe, Cece was starting to see him more than a friend, but he accepted that it is better to have her in his life as a friend than not in it at all. I'm not saying it won't happen because I bet by season's end Schmidt and Cece will get together as will Nick and Jess. I thought it was a nice touch having Coach not be self-absorbed and go see his niece instead of his holiday to Hawaii. (Side note: Did anyone catch Coach's first name, or was that just me? Haha) Now, let's get to Nick and Jess.

I knew from the moment Jess got Nick and Winston on the plane in first-class that he was going to get off and "save" Jess. Her decision to cancel on Ryan through text was obviously ridiculous; no one in their right mind would not call their significant other to explain why they can't make it halfway around the world. Once again, I thought it was a moving gesture of the gang to rescue Jess before leaving for their trips, but because it was Nick, it was overtly showing the audience that he still cares for Jess more than a friend and that they will end up together. Their chemistry is undeniable and I hate that we honestly have to wait to see them together again because of the way the season is written/orchestrated.

I thought the ending jab that Jess made it to London and Ryan left to go back to L.A. was funny, if only for a split second…it was ridiculous. I understand as a cliffhanger-esque finale it worked, but logistically, no one would do that! You would call and explain your change of plans before your boyfriend/girlfriend dropped everything on Christmas and flew back to see you. Funny as a throwaway gag, but it did not work from a writing standpoint. Maybe I'm wrong and there may be a new episode of New Girl next week, but I do not think so. All in all, a good episode for the gang and I am interested in seeing what is to come throughout the rest of the season. Until next year, comment below with your thoughts and Happy Holidays!
