MOVIES: Ant-Man - Rumor - How Will The Film Connect To The Marvel Cinematic Universe?

According to this anonymous party, ANT-MAN will take place alongside the events of AGE OF ULTRON, the fall-out of which will spur on the Superhuman Registration Act. While ANT-MAN is largely self-contained in nature, the references of the MCU will come from Pym’s past as a scientist for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the ’60s, having worked alongside Howard Stark, Arnim Zola and Alexander Pierce. However, in this flashback sequence, Pym will supposedly also have a run-in with a young military hot-head by the name of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who Marvel fans have last seen in THE INCREDIBLE HULK as played by William Hurt.

The party goes on to say S.H.I.E.L.D.’s downfall in THE WINTER SOLDIER forced Pym into the private sector, which makes him vulnerable and essentially serves as catalyst for the events that follow in ANT-MAN. And according to the party, a shooting draft of ANT-MAN’s post-credit stinger shows the older Ross re-appearing to Pym, claiming he’d been sent by Tony Stark. When asked why, Ross allegedly responds, “Haven’t you seen the news? We’re at war.”

The party also claims Ross will play a supporting role in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, begrudgingly helping Tony Stark enforce the Superhero Registration Act and giving him military aid as Stark’s hesitant to use his own technology post-ULTRON. The party claims that rumors of Black Widow’s limited involvement in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is also true, as her character will be arrested for aiding fugitive superhumans in a power play by Stark (which will give actress Scarlett Johansson a break from the MCU to focus on her family), though the source says a potential Black Widow jailbreak in a future Marvel film may help bring Scott Lang’s Ant-Man into the AVENGERS fold.

  1. That is good, I heard the plot would be in the same period as the first Captain America. Now it's a confirmation that he will be in the Avengers team for the Infinity War (?)

  3. Hmm, interesting. I wonder how they are going to fit in The Winter Soldier and Crossbones into all this,

  4. Are you really shipping Black Widow and Cap?! Dafuq?

and Tony is NOT a villain, in this conflict there is no right or wrong

  5. I actually would rather bet on Frank Grillo guest starring in AoS instead of Cap3.

As for the Winter Soldier, he could possibly aid Steven in his quest and take up the shield after Steves death

  6. Good point, though Grillo did say he has no interest in appearing on TV again (he's starring in some DirectTV show) and that he is signed on for future movies. Cap 3 would need an actual villian, as Stark would just be someone with conflicting motivations, so i can see that

  7. Well it's also been confirmed that Hayley Atwell will be in it as Peggy Carter so that'll connect it somehow as well.

While not outright confirmed, all the major players for the 'Death of Captain America' story line have been introduced. We're also getting the Civil War which directly led into his death.

Chris Evan's contract only has 2 films left which would be Captain America 3 and Avengers 3 (it's still unconfirmed if Avengers 3 counts as 1 or 2 movies on their contracts considering it's 2 parts that will be filmed as 1 long movie). Apparently he's not interested in renegotiating as he wants to take a long break from acting.

After Steve's death, Bucky was the one to take up the name of Captain America. Sebastian Stan confirmed that he signed a 9 movie deal with Marvel.

Thus it's generally assumed that Steve will die in either Captain America 3 or Avengers 3 (if he dies in Captain America 3 then he'd probably have a flashback or something in Avengers 3). And Bucky will take up the Captain America name.

  10. Or they could just have Steve lose his powers and have Sam take up the mantle instead. The more cynical side of me feels that the current 616 series is a test to see how well people will handle new people taking up the codenames of the other characters instead of recasting completely. I kind of like the idea and the MCU has a habit of putting their own twist on things. I preferred this to recasting or a complete reboot of the continuity for a new actor. If anything it's obvious that they have a succession plan in place.

The current actors are going to want to leave the series eventually for either artistic reasons or physical reasons. Most people are not going to want to play a superhero in their 50s, unless your Ming-Na Wen, then you become a superhero in your 50s. It is very physically demanding. The original actors leaving will happen sooner or later and with Chris Evans it's going to happen sooner. I respect his right to try different things.
Although I would love to see him direct an episode of AOS before that happens. I think that would be interesting.

  11. It's interesting and it seems possible, but I still can't see the point of the Registration Act.Maybe after Age of Ultron it'll make more sense ideologically, but practically,it seems unnecessary.Even counting the Maximoff twins,Ant-Man and even Black Panther,by the time Civil War airs there will still be only about a dozen superheroes in the MCU and 2/3 of their identities are already public knowledge.

My theory is that the differences between Tony and Steve will begin from how to deal with Bucky and they'll just escalate from there.

The part about Black Widow will be really interesting,if proven true.I would like to see her more in Civil War,but Stark potentially locking her up will be a huge cause of drama down the line.

  12. It would be extremely helpful to know if Infinity War will count as 1 or 2 movies in their contracts.
Still, even if it does count as 2 movies and Steve does indeed die(which seems possible) I really don't think that they'll revive him using a new actor. The whole thing with the contracts ending will be tricky, but I think that's why they're introducing many new characters. They want to have new stories to tell.I don't think they'll recast anyone any time soon. When it comes to Captain America in particular,it's pretty easy to move around not having Chris Evans anymore.Make someone else Captain America.Like you said,Sebastian Stan has a 9 movie deal and has so far only appeared in 2 movies. There's also Sam Wilson,if needed. What I'm saying is,they don't have to use Steve Rogers as Captain America,so they don't have to recast Chris Evans, for now.

About Steve's death,I think there are two possibilities.
1.He dies at the end of Civil War,Bucky becomes Captain America for Infinity War Pt.1 and then Steve is revived at the very end of IW1 and they all take on Thanos in Infinity War Pt.2.

2.Or he dies at some point (maybe at the end) of IW1,Bucky still takes up the shield for a while and Steve is revived half way through IW2 and they all still kick Thanos' ass togehter.

In any case,I think Steve Rogers will be 100% alive by the end of IW2.Personally,I like the first scenario a little better(even though it'll hurt). There are many signs pointing to it,it'll give Bucky a litlle more time to be developed as Captain America and it'll give us an awesome, badass cliffhanger at the end of IW1,Captain America coming back to life.

  13. Spoiler alert: Agents of SHIELD just introduced the inhumans on their midseason finale bringing in the MCU version of Quake along with at least two other inhumans that we know about and many more to come. Even before that there was an index filled with gifted individuals that SHIELD kept tabs on before everything fell apart. So there are more superpowered individuals out then we are aware of and now they are unregulated and at the mercy of any entity that wants to take up control.

The popular theory is that something is going to happen in AOS or AoU that triggers a massive influx of inhumans that's causing an influx in superpowered individuals and mass panic. Also it's been stated that this registration act is not about secret identities but specifically about control and regulation of superpowered individuals.

  14. yeah so basically the Government wants slavery but instead of race it's Gifteds right?

  15. Cool, that way the Registration Act makes much more sense.Hadn't heard about that, thanks.

And I do know about the events of Agents of SHIELD,but I'm still a little skeptical about how much of that information they'll use in the movies.I'm sure they know that many of the fans who will go to watch the Marvel movies don't watch AoS,so I don't think they can just drop Skye or any other characters in there for now.But I get what you're saying.Theoritically, they can just mention that there is a big number of superpowered individuals out there, whithout having to introduce anyone. The number of major characters is still a little small though, since I don't think they can bring all of their already existing superheroes in Civil War.
Still,it'll be interesting to see how they'll do it.I'm sure the result will be pretty great,no matter what.

  16. I'm still a novice when it comes to the comic books but I'm an expert at research. So I've read that in 616 continuity that there was a Terrigen bomb detonated that triggered the master influx of in humans with powers. Of course remember that the MCU is distilled adaptation that loves to do something new. The popular theory is that Hydra is bioengineering their own version of the Terrigen bomb and that might be that haze that everybody being in AoU trailers.

I don't think it's super powered slaves they want I think it's control of the unknown, at least not everyone. I'm sure there's some that do. People feared those who are different. I think Tony's role in all of it is going to be really complicated. More like his trying to prevent the superpowered slave scenario by trying to mitigate things and play their game in an effort to keep something worse from happening. As were seeing with AoS this season the governments are terrified and you just know that somebody is going to be playing on that. As we've also seen things are not black and white anymore.

  18. It's nice to know Scarlett will take some time off and spend with family. I can't imagine being away from family for a long time especially with Marvel Films.

Btw will we see Ross turn into the RED HULK or they won't wanna do that?

  19. ANT-MAN will take place alongside? If I was anyone in the Ant Man Movie I'd be like duck ant man, look at all those robots! that destruction somewhere, which would be on the news. If along side why not just have him help them... so its probably a little before the film AoU, and by the time AM reaches end, time wise they catch up to the end of AoU. Anyway look forward to how it all connected.
