Sons Of Anarchy - Faith and Despondency - Review

After loosing a a vital member, and a dear friend in Bobby, you would expect SAMCRO to be all over the place, not thinking straight, but all they had their minds set on was revenge, which I suppose when you think about it is typical of the sons. We also saw the truth about what happened to Tara finally revealed to Jax. This was an episode not to be missed.

The episode started a bit over the top with the multiple sex scenes between different pairs of characters. More interestingly though we saw Juice and Gemma, they weren't enjoying themselves. Both of them looked in discomfort, but honestly they didn't seem to bothered by what was happening to them, all they could think about I imagine is all the trouble they have caused everyone.
We spent a lot of time in this installment with each of the pairings, Gemma and Nero were talking about the future, where she did say she would go with him; presumably trying to get away before Jax finds out about Tara. We had Jarry this episode want to break it off with Chibs, before then having sex again with him. I really don't get Jarry she knows Chibbs isn't a good man so I don't know why she complains, she either wants to be with him or doesn't. I like to think its not that hard of a choice. We also saw Tig and Venus, played by the wonderful Walton Goggins. They shared some lengthy revelations about their unique relationship, Venus even questioned why Tig was with her. It was a very powerful performance from the both of them, as per usual when we see scenes of them.

A big chunk of the episode was spent with Jax and the sons on a mission for some payback for Bobby's death. Whilst it seemed to take longer than it should have to get their, once it did it was worth it.One complaint though is how stupid was it of that guard to place his gun on the side, it all seemed a little to perfect for me. We then later get a scene of Moses and his men going to the cabin where they thought the pastor's wife was held up at, little did they know it was a perfectly planned out ambush. When I saw the camper van there I knew once they opened it something was going to happen. The tension was very high, especially when Moses and his men were slowly searching around the place. After Moses's men got gunned down, Moses didn't get treated to a quick death, but an excruciatingly painful one. Which is what he deserved. It was an eye for an eye (quite literally), they did everything to him what he did to Bobby. It was a fitting way to end his character, and was definitely the payback which Jax wanted.

The most anticipated moment of the new season, or maybe even the entire series came late last night as it was revealed to Jax by his son Abel that it was Gemma who had killed Tara. I have been waiting for this moment the entire season, and I now look forward to seeing how Jax deals with it, knowing someone he thought he could count on is the reason behind all the events that have occurred after the brutal murder. We all knew Abel was going to eventually do something, after overhearing Gemma's confession we just didn't know what or when he would say something. This episode he did something bold to try to get his Grandma in trouble by getting a fork, and cutting his arm with it. It was the first move in his plan to bring his Grandma down. Sadly for him it didn't pay off, as everyone knew it was him who hurt himself. It was very rewarding though to see Gemma look so uncomfortable when he blamed it on her. The moment did come though in the closing minutes when Jax was tucking him into bed he finally decided to drop a bombshell, and reveal the truth. On the next episode there are two scenarios that could play out, one is that Jax will believe him, with the possibility he might also blame the whole fork ordeal on his mother as well since Abel blamed her for that. Another scenario is that Jax chooses to believe his mother, or when he confronts her she lies her way out of it.

I think Jax has given Gemma the benefit of the doubt to many times. I am hoping he chooses to believe his son, and if he really thinks about, or asks the right questions he can get to the truth. The confrontation between Gemma and Jax will be explosive, and I am wondering if she will get a bullet. She deserves it.

Favorite Quotes

"So is that why Grandma killed my other mummy, so my first mummy can be here with me" Abel

"Its brutal, Bobby was; we all leaned on him you know. Not sure how SAMCRO looks without him" Jax

"What the hell happened, why would he lie. He knew that was going to get you in trouble" Jax

Summary
This episode wrapped up many big storylines including getting rid of Moses. The episode was full of emotional and powerful performances between some of the pairings of characters in particular Jax and Wendy, and Tig and Venus. We also had a massive reveal that is bound to take effect next episode on the future outcomes of Jax and his family. Another brilliant episode!

As always , thank you for reading! Let me know in the comments what you thought of the episode!

  3. I am glad you enjoyed it a lot! I definitely think it was the best episode of the season, but for me my favorite episode was the pilot or maybe Balm. This is easily though in my top 5!

  4. I've seen a lot of television in the last four years (The Wire, Oz, Doctor Who, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Sherlock, etc). Still, I can't think of a single, intelligent thing to write ahah.
This hell of a show. I just want to hug the hell out of Kurt Sutter, the cast and the crew.

  6. haha. I really don't want the show to end, its been such a great show to watch over the past 7 years. Kurt Sutter is a mastermind for coming up with such a beast of a show. I hope its not the last we see of him.

  7. She is now. She has know where to go, although I think Jax could spare here. She will have to leave town for sure though.

  8. The one thing I know is that this won't be the last project of his that I'm gonna see ;)
Sons of Anarchy is not a perfect story and it doesn't have to be. Yet, this was one hour and 10 minutes full of raw emotions and heart-skipping-a-beat moments.
    What more can you ask?

  9. Same here, I hope he can created another fantastic series or even film.

It was a glorious hour of television. it doesn't need to be perfect, every show has bad episodes, and good ones. Last nights was my favorite of the season, and now has now made the wait for the next one much harder.

  11. Yep it was a really good episode. I think it was the best one of the season so far. The last three should be very good, especially now Jax now's the truth about Tara. I am hoping the finale ties up every lose end, and the show goes out with a bang so we will remember it for quite some time.

  12. a few thoughts:
    1. Juice could have said "I don't know who I am anymore"... same as Gemma. they are both gonzo...
    2. Best quote was clearly "What was LAPD here?" by TO
    3. The TO caving thing is more believable when you factor in the race divide that exists and the fact that he's not really SAMCRO and well, "I can't let them take my eye!" F&^&%n Right!
    4. I had the exact same thoughts about Tyler and I have the same problems with the "trusting" guard and the decision to leave Tyler behind as they went to "FIND OUT" if the info was good.
    5. It's almost time to start taking bets on who survives the finale

  13. I can't believe we are so close to the finale, then the show is gone for good!

About T.O, I can accept that it was believable, but I just thought he could have held out for a little longer maybe when Moses would put the knife near his eye. To show he was somewhat loyal, rather than caving so quickly. It was quite good of them what they did with Tyler, having him as a "double agent". I could never tell where his loyalties lie, until last episode when he helped them with the plan to take down Moses.

I think we will probably see a couple more deaths before the show is up. I am going to predict Juice, Gemma and Jarry will die before the season is up. Who do you think will die before the end?
