Scene Of The Week - November 2, 2014 - POLL

2 Nov 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

2 BROKE GIRLS, "And the Reality Problem", October 27, 2014, Actors: Kat Dennings, Beth Behrs, The Scene: Max is forced to cut Caroline's hair
Diana Mack:
So many scenes, I love this show, lol, I'll pick the one in which Max is forced to cut Caroline's hair, that are stucked between her bed and the wall. Nice haircut by the way.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY, "Edward Mordrake (Part 2)", October 29, 2014, Actors: Evan Peters and more, The Scene: The townspeople show up at the freak show
Klutzy girl:
The townspeople show up at the freak show to thank Jimmy for saving their kids. It was such a sweet moment.

ARROW, "The Magician", October 29, 2014, Actors: Stephen Amell, John Barrowman, The Scene: Malcolm and Oliver meet
Daniel van der Veer:
Arrow's 50th episode was the best episode of the season yet. While I enjoyed the entire episode and there were various scenes I could have mentioned here, I am going with the Malcolm and Oliver meeting. Finally Oliver knows Malcolm is alive which leads to this meeting. The acting of John Barrowman and Stephen Amell was outstanding. It was a confrontation we had been waiting on for a year and it did not disappoint.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE, "Eldorado", October 26, 2014, Actors: Steve Buscemi, Travis Tope
The Scene: The final scene
Darth Locke:
Tommy Darmody Shoots Nucky Thompson with flashback montage. Boardwalk Empire ended on a perfectly tragic note. I will miss this show.

BONES, "The Corpse at the Convention", October 30, 2014, Actors: David Boreanaz, Michael Grant Terry, The Scene: Booth tells Wendell not to give up
Klutzy Girl:
Booth tells Wendel not to give up, that he can't lose another brother. I like these little hints we're getting that he's still grieving over Sweets and I'm sure he'd fall apart completely if he lost someone else close to him.

CRIMINAL MINDS, "Boxed In", October 29, 2014, Actors: Joe Mantegna, A. J. Cook and more
The Scene: The BAU team canvasses the neighbours
Laura Markus:
When the BAU are outside canvassing the neighbours, some of the team have some priceless quotes and moments. Rossi: "Even if they [the neighbours] did [see something], it's Halloween. He could be in costume. We could be looking for Spongebob for all we know." JJ whistles, then looks at Reid and says, "Hello over there, share please."

DOCTOR WHO, "Dark Water", November 1, 2014, Actors: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez, The Scenes: Clara attempts to blackmail the Doctor & Missy kisses Twelve
Justyna Kubica:
It was a very powerful episode which is why I'm sure I could have picked a different scene, there were quite a few memorable ones. The fact that Missy is in fact the Master for example. But the truth is no other scene made such a lasting impression on me like the moment when Clara chooses to confront the Doctor and blackmails him into changing Danny's fate. The look on her face, the determination, the desperation in her actions... In this season we have watched Clara's addiction to the wonderful life in the TARDIS, the power that comes with it, we have seen her strong bond with the Doctor, even her wanting to become more like him at one point and of course, the lies. And suddenly, in this one single moment, nothing matters to her anymore, she only cares about Danny being alive again. Even when she throws away all the keys (or it appears like she has) and breaks down it's not because of her betrayal or the possibility of being trapped in a volcano and close death. She's heartbroken and would have done it again. Instead, she's forced to do the unthinkable and accept that Danny's gone for good. And the Doctor, seeing her pain, can't help but forgive her and try something dangerous and impossible, even for him. He decides to look for wherever Danny currently is and bring him back. The performances by both Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in the scene are absolutely fantastic. Such a dark, powerful episode. Can't wait for the finale, both scared and excited to see how this story will end.
Sandi: The Doctor takes control back from Clara. I've loved Clara's arc this season, her addiction to the power the TARDIS has given over her life has changed her beyond recognition. After all the things she has seen and been apart of it's no wonder that she saw Danny's accidental death as mundane and boring in comparison and was driven to desperation to try and change the situation. The Doctor clocked that something was up within seconds though, heard her collecting the keys and let her scenario play out, never once letting her actually get the upper hand. Peter and Jenna both played a blinder in these scenes, the raw emotions and intensity between the two friends as she attempted to blackmail him and then he forgave her and showed her another way of achieving her goal made these 10 minutes the best of the season so far for me.
Nirat Anop: Missy kisses Twelve. This was such an unexpected and funny scene especially when she said that he didn't "receive the 3W greetings package" and then pushes Twelve against the wall and kisses him. Clara's face was so shocked as was mine, especially when she proceeded to kissing his nose. Twelve responds "Is it over" to which Clara says yes and then Missy informs Clara that she also hasn't been given the greetings package and she quickly responds thats she's ok. This was so unexpected and Michelle Gomez did a awesome job.

GOTHAM, "Spirit of the Goat", October 27, 2014, Actors: Robin Lord Taylor, Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue and more, The Scene: Penguin shows up at the GCPD
Justyna Kubica:
Now, that's a perfect way to end a great episode! Penguin showing up at the police station was not only a fantastic surprise but a real game changer. It has the potential to change everything for Gordon. I loved how he really tried to convince Harvey that he lied about Oswald when they were arrested and Bullock was just trying to cover for him until he realized the truth and angrily went after him. I'm glad Copplebot is no longer hiding, it certainly makes things interesting for a lot of people. And I'm excited to see how his connection with Jim is going to change from here. Not to mention when Gordon discovers all that he did since they faked Penguin's death. This show is definitely getting better, I think it might have been the best episode yet. I like the potential and I'm excited to see what's next. Also, it's always worth to mention how great Robin Lord Taylor's performance is. Kudos!
Tonya Papanikolas: Penguin shows up at the GCPD after Gordon and Bullock are arrested. When I saw Penguin show up, I thought everything is now about to hit the fan! This is going to stir up everything. I love that it all came to a head fairly quickly. I thought Penguin would stay hidden for awhile but I'm glad he didn't. This will make things really interesting. Showing up then just emphasized Penguin's delusional thoughts of considering Jim a true friend. In his mind, he is coming to Jim's rescue. But he actually really is. His connection to Jim is both sad and creepy. But he definitely helped Jim out, just like Jim did for him. I can't wait to see where things go from here.
Sandi: I am loving the Penguin & Jim's relationship, well one-sided relationship. I do wonder where it is going to go now, will Jim actually be more friendly with him for a while now that he's saved him from being arrested. Whatever happens in the immediate future things will inevitably go south sometime soon, and the fallout is going to be fun to watch!

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "Freakin' Whack-a-Mole", October 30, 2014, Actors: Viola Davis and more, The Scene: Annalise continues to press the Senator
Bradley Adams:
Despite being shouted at by the judge, Annalise continues to press the Senator. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "A Fractured House", October 28, 2014, Actor: Brett Dalton
The Scene: Ward escapes
Klutzy girl:
I was originally against this plan but the team was creating a toxic situation and I didn't want him around one of his abusers so this was the best solution. I'm not completely on board with the theory yet but I think it's viable Coulson helped him escape since those were basic handcuffs. And I'm excited to see what he'll do on his own - it's just the start of the redemption arc and there's a long road ahead of us.

NCIS, "Parental Guidance Suggested", October 28, 2014, Actors: Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, The Scene: Tony and Abby talk about Ziva
Daniel van der Veer:
Finally Tony has a proper conversation about Ziva. Again, this is something we had been waiting on for a year. You could see how moved they were by Ziva's departure, especially Tony. Wonderful acting by Michael Weatherly and Pauley Perrette. I must also give an honorable mention to the scene where Gibbs interrogates Rachel who turns out to be a sociopath, which is the creepiest thing the show has ever done in its 12 seasons.

ONCE UPON A TIME, "Breaking Glass", October 26, 2014, Actors: Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Colin O'Donoghue, The Scenes: Emma tells Regina she wants to be her friend & Emma and Hook discover the truth about the Snow Queen
Nirat Anop:
Emma tells Regina she wants to be her friend. She says she's "not going to stop trying, even if Regina wants to kill her", this was such a lovely moment which I really loved. The entire episode was awesome, but the highlight was the moments Emma and Regina had (Even seeing them on Elsa's Frozen Bridge, which looked spectacular, like a copy from the movie to Battling the Snowman, which wasn't really a snowman). Their story was made more meaningful with the parallel of Emma's past with Lily and her younger self. I can't wait to see more of Emma and Regina using the powers together and becoming better friends. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
Darth Locke: Emma and Hook discover the truth about the snow queen while watching childhood footage of Emma... This was truly like a LOST moment! One of the best twists.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Pretenders", October 28, 2014, Actors: Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel and more, The Scenes: The final scene & Elias and Dominic meet & Reese tells Walter's love interest what a hero Walter is & Scarface turns up to help Reese and Fusco
Ben Norton: It is revealed that Harold placed something in Beth's computer, and that Samaritan is interested in her algorithms.
DarkUFO: Elias and Dominic meet.
Darth Locke: Reese tells Walter's love interest what a hero Walter is.
Bradley Adams: Scarface turns up to help Reese and Fusco.

THE 100, "Inclement Weather", October 29, 2014, Actors: Eliza Taylor, Dichen Lachman and more, The Scene: Clarke finds the cages and Anya
Daniel van der Veer:
Another great The 100 episode ends with a shocking discovery. Clarke finds cages full of Grounders whose blood is used by the Mountain Men. One of them turns out to be former Grounder queen Anya. Quite a cliffhanger going into episode 3! I am glad I have seen the episode already as I could not have waited for the resolution of this cliffhanger.
Ben Norton: Clarke discovers the Grounders in cages at the end of the episode.

THE BLACKLIST, "The Mombasa Cartel", October 27, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Peter Fonda, The Scene: Red tells Geoff Perl about rescuing Dembe
Tonya Papanikolas:
What a fantastic scene. James Spader was riveting as he talked about the young boy we saw at the beginning of the episode whose entire family was killed by the cartel. As he slowly unfolds the story, the audience learns that young boy was Dembe - and Red has taken care of him all these years. He rescued Dembe, took him in and paid for his education. This scene was hugely important because it showed that Red really does have a heart. He pretends not to care about anything (except Lizzie) but he obviously does. He had no reason to take in Dembe except that the situation touched his heart and he extended his compassion. This side of Red has been hinted at before but it was always nebulous and balanced with his violent, self-serving ways. This time his purpose was pure and clear. He cared about what happened to a young boy in need. It was wonderfully satisfying to see what the audience has often suspected - that Red has a lot of good in him. The scene shed a lot of light on Red and his character. It couldn't have been portrayed better.

THE FLASH, "Going Rogue", October 28, 2014, Actors: Grant Gustin, Emily Bett Rickards, Wentworth Miller, The Scenes: Barry saves the passengers & Barry and Felicity kiss
Nirat Anop:
Barry races through the train as it's being destroyed saving the passengers. This scene showcased some of the best special effects I have seen on TV. The Flash just keeps getting better and Captain Cold was brilliantly portrayed by Wentworth Miller who made the episode even more enjoyable with his Cold Gun. Sandi: I loved Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold so in some ways was happy to see him derail the train with his cold gun and then skulk away after Cisco saw him off with the STAR labs vacuum cleaner! The actual crash was superbly done, I loved the slow motion and spinning effects as the carriages tumbled off the rails, it was great CGI for TV.
Ben Norton: Barry and Felicity share a kiss whilst on the train. Also picked by Diana Mack

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "The World Has Turned and Left Me Here", October 30, 2014, Actors: Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, The Scene: Stefan reunites with Damon
Justyna Kubica:
I haven't really been watching the show for years now but this season I sort of came back to it, since I was interested to watch the Damon and Bonnie aspect of the story. I'm glad I got to see the two working together in order to get home, cause their scenes ended up being pretty great and interesting and I'm already missing their dynamics. But the biggest surprise of the episode for me was the beautiful reunion between Stefan and Damon at the end. One of the reasons I always had a problem with the show was how little the relationship between the two brothers meant when it came to their love for Elena. The brotherly bond is something that was sadly always missing for me so it was truly special to finally see it. It has to be my favorite scene of the show with these two. Because of the simple, yet the most powerful meaning behind it, that Damon and Stefan, despite being monsters and doing many terrible things over the years, often hurting themselves, still love each other. And I don't know, maybe there is hope for them after all. Beautifully acted moment, especially by Paul Wesley who starts the scene with a sad monologue. Kudos! I hope there are more scenes like that in the future, I will gladly come back to watch them.
Jamie Coudeville: This moment was so sweet. I love how far their relationship has come. I'm glad Damon saw Stefan first. Their relationship is really the most important one in the show. The music was perfect too.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Four Walls and a Roof", October 26, 2014, Actors: Andrew Lincoln, Andrew J. West, The Scene: Rick and gang kill Gareth and the cannibals
Tonya Papanikolas:
Wow. What a brutal, sick scene. But it showed the lines that Rick was now willing to cross (along with some of the others). He's changing because of the awfulness of the situation. His rage at what has happened surpassed everything else and he felt he needed to destroy Gareth and his clan. He could have dealt with the situation differently but he chose to repay their violence with the violence he felt they deserved. His emotions took over and he gave into them. This is almost a different Rick, one who has reached a boiling point. And it will be interesting to see how he deals with things moving forward, especially after Bob's dying speech where he told Rick nightmares shouldn't end who you are. Also picked by DarkUFO and Bradley Adams

TWO AND A HALF MEN, "The Ol' Mexican Spinach", October 30, 2014, Actors: Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer, The Scene: Walden proposes to Alan
Diana Mack:
To have the chance to adopt a baby, Walden must be married, so he proposes to Alan, who doesn't know what's going on. So hilarious!

  3. Scene of the week for me has to be the final Boardwalk Empire scene as it flipped back and forth to the fateful moment Nucky changed Gillian's life to the moment Tommy confronted him. Really devastating and yet perfect.

    Other great scenes:

Agents of SHIELD: Melinda and Bobbi kicking serious Hydra ass in the safe house (with a little help from Lance). Great fighting and once again the series continues to approve with its action scenes.

Doctor Who: Missy confirms what we all knew but the Doctor's face at meeting his old friend and enemy was delightful.

  4. Cheers for posting Justyna!

    Honourable mentions:
Gotham - Alfred's face when Bruce says no-one will miss him if the Goat took him, and just about every scene for it's directing - there were some beautiful shots this week, lots of playing about with shadows, colours and angles, I loved it!

Doctor Who - The Master reveal and I also liked Danny & Seb's scenes, esp the one that included his flashback and the young boy he killed.

Reign - Toby Relego & Jane Spidell in Reign were outstanding as Francis and Caroline this week, kinda gutted that storyline has run it's course now as I really liked Caroline's character. I'm also loving both Narcisse & Francis' scenes too.

  10. I HAD Stopped watching TVD from past 2 years but people asked me to watch this latest epi. IT WAS INDEED THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT EVER. STEFAN DAMON HUG. was waiting for this to happen since day 1. i hope writers continue to portray this epic bond more rather than focus on vomit inducing delena stelena and love stories.
been waited for real brothers moment for so long.
i m so so so happy Stefan was the first to see Damon. it was such pure little brother needing his big bother moment :')

  11. This was a difficult week to make choices as there were so many memorable scenes.

  12. Lots of great episodes this week. Arrow, NCIS and The 100 all had episodes with amazing scenes. Also, it was good learning about Dembe in The Blacklist. HTGAWM was also great, Viola Davis should be nominated for an Emmy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. AHS: the end was great, if not a bit cliche - I'd have picked Elsa's scenes or even Crusty's - very powerful stuff as both characters had to expose their souls to EM.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Person of Interest: The closing shot of Finch walking away. Probably one of the few occasions in a JJ Abrams production where lens flare actually worked.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The Arrow, Person of Interest, The Flash, The Walking Dead, Once Upon A Time, and The Vampire Diaries scenes mentioned.

I'm so glad that Stefan and Damon brother scene made the list. I agree about Stefan's monologue and the music, etc. All of it really made this scene one of the best on the show in a long time. Too long. With all the romantic drama, the brotherhood scenes are always refreshing and touching to me.

Agents of Shield: Bobbi and May fight the enemy together

The Originals: Klaus and Cami dance, she says there is more to life (the music and how close they got made the scene very heated with Chemistry imo). Also, Elijah trains Gina, and Mikael trains Davina.

Forever: End scenes, Abe tells his secret

Constantine: Constantine and Zed's scene: Zed: “Loneliness. Pain. Desperation. These things motivate you.” scene.

    Sleepy Hollow: Yoga scene. XD

  16. I'm way behind this season I've only seen a couple of Modern Family episodes and GA & HTGAWM but HGATWM is my pick, Viola Davis killed it in this episode.

BTW if anyone can help me, I had to change of computer and I don't remember what was the name of "the app" that allows to watch US residents-only videos. Thanks.

    TVD - Stefan and Damon

  18. Narcisse blackmails Francis. It was Narcisse's plan all along to have Caroline coerce a confession from Francis. Her play acting was so believable, even growling at Kenna. 16th century Emmy goes to Caroline.

  19. Agreed. It was an awesome shot! I loved the reveal that he planned the whole thing at the end.

  20. Thank you! I can't believe it's been so long :)

  21. OUAT : The end with Emma and Hook discovering the truth. And seeing just before the Lily and Young Emma scene. That was adorable. The Emma and Regina wanting to be friends seemed very sudden to me. I liked their scenes but I didn't think it made à good parallel with the flashbacks. But them being on better terms can be good for the future.

  22. I'm kind of gutted that the Caroline story is over now, I was loving her play acting as Henry! I can't wait to see how Bash and Francis sort this mess out ;)

  24. Yeah, it's hard to believe it's been so long. Though I do recall writing about Fringe so it had to be a while :) And you're welcome! Thank you for the comment. I do love writing and reading it all myself, so I'm always glad to do it.

  25. 1. The Walking Dead scene on the list.
    2. Grimm. Nick drops to the floor in pain and it is revealed that he and Adalind are each seeing what the other sees.
    3. American Horror Story. Twisty is killed, and in his resurrection, his face is restored and he is happy as he joins Mordrake and gang.
    4. The Big Bang Theory. Dr. Lorvis arrives at Penny's door with flowers, telling Sheldon that Penny must like him because she touched him for two (Mississippi) seconds. Well, just any scene with Billy Bob.

  26. tvd:Stefan and Damon reunion is my new favorite scene of the tv show.I had been looking forward for this since season 1.
ouat:the Snow Queen is Emma's foster mother?!WTH? That was my reaction when I saw that scene.

  27. I did rewatch the fight scene twice.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Good Wife: Elsbeth and Josh have ridiculous sex in her office the night before she shuts his case down (I don't even like that Josh Perotti character or the pairing of those two and it was still a funny scene to me)
The 100: The final scene had me gasp. But throughout the episode, seeing Clarke act constantly to try to free herself (and her friends) was very...nice to see. I have seen that situation play out a few times on tv shows (like TWD) and I am just pleased she didn't buy it, and went to very painful lengths to find out what was wrong with the mountain people.

  29. I chose The Flash, Barry's train save. That was truly awesome. TVD- Defan reunion, and Other for Arrow which for me was, Oliver, Nyssa, and Malcolm all fighting each other at once, that was EPIC!

Also loved the Booth and Wendell scene in Bones. Billy Bob guest starring in TBBT was hilarious. Steroline's last scene when Caroline tells Stefan to get in his car and go. Bonnie kills Kai.
