Ratings Breakdown:
“The Big Bang Theory” on CBS topped this typical Thursday, with a 10.7 rating/17 share in the household overnights at 8 p.m. But it was not enough to lead the Eye net to nightly victory, with dominant ABC holding a 16 percent advantage. ABC, the most improved network on Thursday, featured its regularly scheduled “TGIT” rotation of dramas “Grey’s Anatomy” (#3: 6.4/10), “Scandal” (#1: 7.8/12) and “How To Get Away With Murder” (#1: 7.0/12). Needless to say, moving both “Grey’s” and “Scandal” up by one hour this season has been a rousing success for the alphabet net.

Scheduled out of “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS’ sophomore “Mom” continues to post noticeable growth (versus formerly airing Monday at 9:30 p.m. out of “2 Broke Girls”), with a first-place 6.9/11 at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, that was on par with year-ago time period occupant “The Millers,” but – similar to “The Millers” – the overnight retention out of “The Big Bang Theory” was only 64 percent.

Next on the Eye net was veteran “Two and a Half Men” (#2: 5.8/ 9), which exits this spring, followed by episode three of “The McCarthys” at a 4.4/ 7 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, this was one-tenth of a rating point (or two percent) below the 4.5/ 7 one week earlier. And that 4.5 overnight household rating translated into a modest 6.67 million viewers and a 1.5 rating/4 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. Comparably, “The McCarthys” slipped by 24 percent in the overnights from the 5.8/ 9 on the year-ago evening for former time period occupant “Two and a Half Men,” and its retention out of Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher last night was so-so at 76 percent.

At 10 p.m., CBS’ “Elementary” finished in the distant No. 2 spot with a 4.5/ 8, which 21 percent below the 5.7/10 one year earlier.

Elsewhere, the overnight results were minimum. Fox’s veteran “Bones” continues to erode as the Thursday anchor this season, with a 3.6/ 6 at 8 p.m. And it led into a typically minuscule 2.2/ 3 at 9 p.m. for limited drama “Graceland.” “The Biggest Loser” on NBC has also not benefited opening Thursday, with a fourth-place 2.8/ 4 from 8-9 p.m. And that led into canceled 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “Bad Judge” (#3: 2.6/ 4) and “A To Z” (#4: 1.7/ 3), followed by soon-to-conclude “Parenthood” at a 2.7/ 5 at 10 p.m. (#3). The ongoing positive for “Parenthood” remains the double-digit growth in the key demos out of “A To Z.”

Capping off the night was CW combo “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.4/ 2), which slipped by 22 percent from the year-ago evening (1.8/ 3 on 11/14/13), and sophomore “Reign” (#5: 0.9/ 1), which dropped by 36 percent (from the 1.4/ 2 one year earlier).

  1. Scandal seems to be up from last week.

    ReplyDelete
  2. HTGAWM seems up however these haven't been the most reliable especially this week.

    ReplyDelete
  3. It looks like ABC entire line up is up

    ReplyDelete
  4. ABC reigns Thursdays now

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think that was already a safe bet.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It would appear so.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I expect some big numbers next week as well

    ReplyDelete
  8. How big are those markets, exactly?

(And CBS just can't seem to catch a break this week, lol)

    ReplyDelete
  9. So ABC is now winning Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, they must be thrilled. They only need to fix Tuesdays and Sundays and they are set.

    ReplyDelete
  10. This week, it seems that they will only win Thursdays and Fridays since NBC took Wednesday due to the crossover event.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ok we can be sure Elementary will be cancelled...

    ReplyDelete
  12. nah it has its syndication deal. It will have its 4 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Three million dollars per episode will guarantee Elementary a fourth season. Perhaps, even if a fifth should CBS feel so inclined.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Even if it is burned off on Saturdays the show will keep coming back. 3 million is enough incentive to keep the show on the air

    ReplyDelete
  15. Gracepoint*

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sunday at 10, here it comes!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Not that big but still worth noting.

Pretty much lol, except for Survivor & Criminal Minds.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow. Go ABC! I have some catching up to do. And I almost feel like I should go back and watch Grey's, which I haven't watched in years. The whole Thursday night lineup almost feels like you should watch it in a block. It's really incredible what they've achieved demographically with Thursday nights. Calls to mind NBC Thursdays waaaay back when.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Marc labeling Mom a winner really just shows his bias. He's labeled shows losers before with that kind of retention from TBBT and it is currently losing over 40% of TBBT's audience in the demo.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And he calls a 76% retention a so-so.
I may not watch The McCarthys nor I care for it, but 76% retention is not so-so. The demos may be

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why did Elementary get a 3 million dollar deal? I don't understand

    ReplyDelete
  22. I mean was it ever a big hit? I know it used to do respectable

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not really. it was doing mid 2's during the fall but after the SB, it came back doing low 2's.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Even the mighty crumble.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Despite winning Wednesdays and Fridays, ABC still has problems on those nights. Modern Family declining, Nashville & Cristela doing poorly. DWTS is still doing ok on Mondays, however Castle isn't holding up as well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nashville doing mid 1's is not that bad. Sure, there's potential to grow and I think ABC should take advantage of Blackish (a show that actually seems capable of developing into a hit for the network) but Nashville is doing a decent enough job for now.

However, their problems on Tuesdays (where it finished absolute last) and Sundays are far more pressing than fixing Wednesdays and Friday's rather minimal problems.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Reign dont drop from 05 lets make the CW have a though desicion regarding who the gonna cancel xD

    ReplyDelete
  28. We all told you before that it's guaranteed to get at least 4 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Last Reign episode was the best so far, no doubt. Oh God! I hope for 0.5 at least.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would really like to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why did they have to move TBBT to Thursdays? Bones doesn't have a chance against both Grey's and TBBT. Yet Bones is much more quality than TBBT. The cast and crew deserve much better :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. The moves around did more to damage it than TBBT and Grey's.

    ReplyDelete
  33. FOX should have just left Bones on Fridays.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The moves really did damage TBBT too this season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I understand the logic on CBS' part but did they really think that even TBBT would be impervious to that kind of moving around?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Quality is subjective.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If I had to guess I'd say because it's a procedural and those usually repeat well. Also it had the post-Super-Bowl slot 2 years ago so maybe that factored into the price?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have never heard of a show benefitting in its syndication deal just because it god the SB slot.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's the only thing that makes sense. Elementary's ratings have never been great, so there's really no other factor to warrant the $3 million deal.

    ReplyDelete
  40. we'll never know :/

    ReplyDelete
  41. True, but in this case - TBBT is about laughing and popularity, while Bones is much deeper, it has much stronger storylines and its inspirational. With TBBT it's really just about laughing - I do watch both show, I'm a fan of both, too, but...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Patrick Ausgewahlt14 November 2014 at 15:01

Graceland isn't even on a broadcast network! If Graceland pulled Gracepoint numbers on USA, it would be considered pretty successful

    ReplyDelete
  43. lmao, I just noticed it.

Reminds me when Marc kept messing up on Happy Town.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Patrick Ausgewahlt14 November 2014 at 15:02

It's premiere grew from a good Person of Interest lead in, but it literally was disappointing for every episode after

    ReplyDelete
  45. Patrick Ausgewahlt14 November 2014 at 15:02

It is procedural, but it doesn't repeat exceptionally well at all.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's always been one of CBS's lower rates procedurals. Not even the Super Bowl could help it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. At this point, they might as well move it back there. Fox is a disaster right now, other than Gotham, right? And Sleepy Hollow is hanging in there for now. But I hope the new series in its back pocket (Backstrom, Wayward Pines, Empire) catch on. Desperate times. (And I still miss Almost Human.)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow CBS is having a rough week- I wonder if they will move out of the procedural genre? I feel people are more into serialized these days

    ReplyDelete
  49. Super Bowl hardly ever helps any show out. In the last decade or so, only two shows benefitted from it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Honestly I don't even remember seeing CBS repeat it much, and that's probably why.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The only shows that were "helped" were shows that were already strong on their respective networks.

The super bowl can't take a low performing show and make it a hit (New Girl, B99, Elementary).

    ReplyDelete
  52. No, Undercover boss premiered after the Super Bowl and is still doing an okay-ish job. And I was talking about the scripted side of things.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I really hope that HH rating means that Bones still got at least a 1.3.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wonder if ABC had Superbowl if they would have given it to Scandal?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have no doubt in my mind that they would have.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Patrick Ausgewahlt14 November 2014 at 15:12

They actually insisted on repeating it after a usually 2.0+ Big Brother this summer when it was getting .5-.7's!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I mean, I rather like the show – it's one of only three network shows I actually watch. But it's not the kind of procedural I would think would do well in syndication. It's sorta quiet and slow and while it's often subtly funny, it doesn't have the same kind of humorous banter as NCIS, other procedurals.

So, in short ... I have no clue.

    ReplyDelete
  58. i would say they would give it to SHIELD.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Idk. They probably would try to capitalize on Scandal's enormous growth to see if they could push it even higher.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think it may have something to do with the Sherlock brand, which has seen a spike in popularity in the last few years. Perhaps they feel it will benefit from that in future syndication because clearly the current ratings had nothing to do with that price

    ReplyDelete
  61. that would be a waste of time I think
I would go with Scandal, Modern Family/Blackish or even OUAT

    ReplyDelete
  62. So is Grey's, and they still showed it after the Super Bowl. I don't think that's a problem. However, I don't think Scandal would be the show, and I don't think SHIELD would benefit.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Grey's is nowhere near as serialized as Scandal.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Patrick Ausgewahlt14 November 2014 at 15:25

Not a chance. No serialized drama has ever been a hit for CBS. They repeat horribly and go against CBS' whole syndication factory surgery. Look at Person of Interest. It went from procedural to serialized and declined like crazy. January 2013 it saw a 3.4 and now November of 2014 its already down to a 1.3.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Grey's was in it's second season back then.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Serialized shows can be tooled to be easily accessible to new viewers after the superbowl (Alias, Grey's, both ABC shows did that). I really don't think anything will fix Shield at this point and ABC probably knows that too. Scandal and HTGAWM are the two buzziest shows on TV, I think they'd definitely opt to have one of them air and benefit from the spike

    ReplyDelete
  67. True, and GA was still quite fresh at that time.

    ReplyDelete
  68. well ABC=Disney. MF isnt their production so it would probably be out. I would say they would try with the most male skewing option. Ergo SHIELD:

    ReplyDelete
  69. But Grey's was in it's it second season back then.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Crazy high number for Scandal. A 3.9. More likely, a 3.1-3.3?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Could HTGAWM be an option? What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  72. yup just imagine next week
HTGAWM most likely did 2,9ish but should crack that 3 next week

    ReplyDelete
  73. Besides TBBT CBS top market numbers are ugly

    ReplyDelete
  74. Imagining that these are inflated - uglier is ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think ABC has the most to benefit from SHIELD.
Of course, this is all hypothetical since ABC is not getting Superbowl anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sadly, ABC doesn't get to air the SB in the current deal package. And I don't see HTGAWM making it to the 2021-22 (where, presumably, the pack would be renegotiated and ABC has a tiny chance of getting in)

    ReplyDelete
  77. The Fast Nationals for CBS will be inflated. I don't think the Top 25 are inflated.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh, okay. If that's the case, still.. Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Oh, wow! I didn't know about the deal. Yeah, I think murder will have 6 or 7 seasons tops.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Considering Scandal seems to jump two tenths for every finale it has (except the S2 finale which stayed the same as the last episode - but that one grew over sixth tenths from the previous one), I think depending on where it ends up in the finals, we could be looking at Scandal posting anywhere in the mid 3's.

    ReplyDelete
  81. OMG,elementary.I think it will score below 1 today after final adjustment!Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  82. CBS tends to go up from TOP 25

    ReplyDelete
  83. I hope so,these early numbers are scary.

    ReplyDelete
  84. i think they would've give that spot to HTGAWM Scandal doesnt need it and how murder is a new show theycould use the boost.

    ReplyDelete
  85. well the preemptions doesnt help Thursdays on CBS.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I totally agree with everything you said about Bones.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The bones writers are killing the show with destroying B and B's work partnership and having boring agent Aubrey in every other scene. On the other hand what current show or midseason replacement would do any better against the big bang theory and grays?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yikes elementary!!! I gave up on the show in the second season anyway but that looks bad.

    ReplyDelete
  89. "At this point, they might as well move it back there."

I really hope they do move Bones back there. I want it away from TBBT; it's killing it, IMO

    ReplyDelete
  90. Honestly, Elementary would be far more compatible with TGW than CSI, which has a higher male audience (and shouldn't be opposite football). I still can't believe CBS ordered more scripts of TMcC. What are they thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  91. The post-SB slot was a disaster because of the 45-minute delay due to the power outage. It aired so late, it didn't really get the sampling that CBS was hoping for.

    ReplyDelete
  92. But that's only this week though, I can't see NBC mantaining those numbers

    ReplyDelete
  93. TVD 0.7, Reign 0.4

    ReplyDelete
  94. GA 2.4
    Scandal 3.2
    HTGAWM: 2.9

    ReplyDelete
  95. Scandal gets a 2.7 in the 18-34. Incredibly young skewing show.

    ReplyDelete
  96. TBBT 4.5
    Mom 2.8
    2 and a half men: 2.2
    McCarthys: 1.6
    Elementary 1.2

    ReplyDelete
  97. Bones 1.2
    Gracepoint: 0.8

    ReplyDelete
  98. Nashville is actually doing better than I expected. I think they should the put the Shark Tank spin-off on Tuesdays, along with SHIELD, The Middle and a new comedy, with The Goldbergs taking the 8pm slot on wednesdays. I know it's a risk moving The Middle away from the wednesday comedy block, but I think it has it loyal following.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I give you credit for sticking with it! And yeah, another move would probably not help. Fox seriously needs to clear out its stable and figure out how to reinvent itself. It's got a real flop-sweat stench going right now. Sundays still ok, and Mondays are decent. Maybe master Chef Jr. can boost one of the mid season entries. I'm at least interested in checking those out.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Pleaseee no adjust for tbbt & mom and mccarthys

    ReplyDelete
  101. unfortunately it will CBS was preempted in 2 market

    ReplyDelete
  102. expect 1-2 tenth adjustments for CBS. Could end up being a series high for Mom though in the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Mom is gonna adjust down but 2.5+ should be good.

    ReplyDelete
  104. How can I refresh the tables because nothing appears? :(

    ReplyDelete
  105. Series high for Mom !

    ReplyDelete
  106. Try CTRL-F5 to force a full refresh

    ReplyDelete
  107. Pending adjustment. CBS was pre-empted again.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I really hope TPTB move Bones come January.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Great scandal :) was it good last night? I will watch it tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  110. TBBT is slowly getting its groove back

    ReplyDelete
  111. CBS preempted in 2 markets

    ReplyDelete
  112. While I have nothing against Reign, I'm happy to see that The 100 is not at the bottom

    ReplyDelete
  113. Didn't know about that; still, TBBT is hardly ever affected by that

    ReplyDelete
  114. they should keep mom on thursday and just cancel the millers doesnt deserve high ratings just because of TBBT

    ReplyDelete
  115. Parenthood. :( Last night's episode was so good.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Oh I didn't know, thanks !

    ReplyDelete
  117. Because its only pre-empted by the pre-game show and that never does as well.

    ReplyDelete
  118. CBS should just put The McCarthys out of it's misery.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Reign was so good last night!Such a shame!
    Half-hours anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Fox and CBS are doing really bad during November sweeps so far.

I believe NBC and ABC have won every night of November sweeps?

    ReplyDelete
  121. For Reign, a 0.4 in both

    ReplyDelete
  122. But but but they ordered more scripts!

    ReplyDelete
  123. 18-34 ratings per showbuzzdaily:
    CBS
    TBBT: 2.8
    Mom: 1.7
    2.5 Men: 1.3
    The McCarthys: 1.0
    Elementary: 0.8

    NBC:
    TBL: 0.8
    Bad Judge: 0.7
    A to Z: 0.4
    Parenthood: 0.9

    ABC:
    Grey's: 1.7
    Scandal: 2.7
    Murder: 2.4

    FOX: Bones: 0.8
    Gracepoint: 0.5

    CW:
    TVD: 0.8
    Reign: 0.4

    ReplyDelete
  124. A to Z was so good last night. Loved listening to Cristin sing again. :(

    ReplyDelete
  125. It'll probably adjust up.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Which means sure cancellation moving ahead now-a-days!LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  127. THANK YOU MY GOD! HAPPY FOR TVD!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Why?It tied it's series low.

    ReplyDelete
  129. As far as the preliminaries goes, Mom outdelivered The Miller's result from last year even with a weaker TBBT; of course, since CBS was pre-empted, we'll have to wait till the finals

    ReplyDelete
  130. Thanks so much.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm glad not to fall!

    ReplyDelete
  132. don't worry my dear,spring is coming!!

  134. great jump for GREYS

    ReplyDelete
  135. ABC's half hours are really wonky.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Similar ratings for TVD as last week.Mostly would adjust up 1/10th.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I never understood this spring? can you explain me?

    ReplyDelete
  138. Reign was even beaten by JtV. Ouch!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Didn't MOMS adjust down 3 tenths last week when it was one market?
    Whats gonna happen later :/

    ReplyDelete
  140. lol at Scandal dropping in its half hour.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Still doesn't mean anything. Reign is the CBS show with the most episodes banked, while The 100 is the low man on the WB totem pole. Right now, Reign will be renewed before The 100.

    ReplyDelete
  142. And of course you had to come and attack Scandal's numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  143. TVD and reign will be adjusted. I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I'm not a US viewer,so i am not very clear about this thing. All i know is TV viewership drops severely during march-may.It may drop to 0.4 this year for TVD,i'm fearing.

    ReplyDelete
  145. TVD most likely will.

    ReplyDelete
  146. wouldn't it make sense for NBC to repeat The Blacklist eps on Thursdays instead of new comedies?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Reign goes up against a female viewer monster in Scandal. What exactly is Jane the Virgin's competition? Oldster DWTS? Genre procedural Sleepy Hollow? Family show The Voice? Also, it's quite tacky to celebrate a show beating another show, even if it's one data point out of a 30+ week season.

    ReplyDelete
  148. its still above a 3.0

    ReplyDelete
  149. Don't see it dropping that much.

    ReplyDelete
  150. As everyone said the super bowl lead in would likely go to SHIELD.

It's ABC's only male skewing show and it's a Marvel show. No doubt Disney would give the lead in to SHIELD even though other shows on the network might be more deserving.

    ReplyDelete
  151. You came to this site too to sprout your nonsense!!Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  152. I like that option but extending The Biggest Loser would also be great.

    ReplyDelete
  153. rob, isn't it time to drop this?

    ReplyDelete
  154. What do u think TVD season low this year would be?

    ReplyDelete
  155. CBS won last Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I know Elementary helps CBS earn a lot, but doesn't CBS fear to lose its audience on 10pm???? HTGAWM (I like it A LOT) will have a great fan base because of CBS airing that show which's losing its viewers week after week, next year the timeslot will be less competitive for CBS bec everyone is gonna watch ABC.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Okay, I'm a confused. Bones had the same half hours last week and a 1.3. Why did it go down?

    ReplyDelete
  158. The Voice is extremely female skewing and as highly rated as Scandal

    ReplyDelete
  159. Monday at 9 is a much more tougher time period than Thursday at 9 lol.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Indeed. I find it hard to believe that there's still a way to negatively spin Scandal's numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  161. TVD and The Originals tied; have they ever tied before?

    ReplyDelete
  162. HTGAWM is eating Elementary alive!Damn!

    ReplyDelete
  163. As has been said every serialized show has been a failure. And CBS's most serialized new show Stalker is their worst performer.

Most networks have found more long term success with procedurals anyway. Only ABC bucks the trend but it's because they have primarily female viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  164. TVD will get adjusted up,it almost always does.

    ReplyDelete
  165. JtV has more competition tan Reign, lol

    ReplyDelete
  166. Dont worry, I will be over at tvbythenumbers too.

    ReplyDelete
  167. In you,we trust!

    ReplyDelete
  168. Actually there isn't, even saying it dropped in its half hour is just stating that it does what most shows does

    ReplyDelete
  169. TVBTN is the place to laugh at the comments, so see you there!

    ReplyDelete
  170. SCANDAL might beat The Voice for #1 reality/scripted show of the week

    ReplyDelete
  171. Totally agree on this.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Not to mention that it usually has a weaker lead in

    ReplyDelete
  173. It was up against Grey's last season. Which one is more female driven? Soapy Grey's or Soapy Scandal?

    ReplyDelete
  174. But The Voice is #3.
