FOX is announcing premiere dates for new series WORLD’S FUNNIEST FAILS (working title) (Jan. 16), BACKSTROM (Jan. 22), THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (March 1) and WEIRD LONERS (March 31); and returning series MASTERCHEF JUNIOR (Jan. 6), GLEE (Jan. 9), THE FOLLOWING (March 2), HELL’S KITCHEN (March 3) and BONES (March 26).

New unscripted comedy WORLD’S FUNNIEST FAILS (wt) premieres on Friday, Jan. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The irreverent one-hour series is based on the hit YouTube channel, FailArmy, which showcases the best “epic fail” viral videos in the most entertaining ways possible. Each week a panel of comedians will analyze the videos which have exploded across the internet, with the goal of awarding one with the ultimate “Fail of the Week.”

BACKSTROM, the offbeat crime procedural starring three-time Emmy Award nominee Rainn Wilson (“The Office,” “Six Feet Under”), premieres Thursday, Jan. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following AMERICAN IDOL XIV’s time period premiere (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). Created and executive-produced by Hart Hanson (BONES), the series follows Detective EVERETT BACKSTROM, an unhealthy, offensive, irascible – albeit brilliant – detective who sees the worst in everyone, and he’s usually right.

End-of-the-world comedy THE LAST MAN ON EARTH premieres with a special one-hour event of back-to-back episodes Sunday, March 1 (9:00-9:30/9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), and then moves into its

regular time period the following week on Sunday, March 8 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). Executive-produced, created by and starring Will Forte (“Nebraska,” “Saturday Night Live”), and executive-produced and directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord (“The Lego Movie,” “22 Jump Street”), the single-camera comedy chronicles the life and adventures of an average guy – and humanity’s last hope – who discovers what life is like when no one is telling you what you can and cannot do.

New ensemble comedy WEIRD LONERS debuts Tuesday, March 31 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). From writer Michael J. Weithorn (“The King of Queens”) and director Jake Kasdan (NEW GIRL), the un-romantic comedy follows four single mid-30-somethings (Becki Newton, “Ugly Betty”; Zachary Knighton, “Happy Endings”; Nate Torrence, “Hello Ladies”; and newcomer Meera Rohit Kumbhani), who are unexpectedly thrust into one another’s lives and form an unlikely bond in a Queens, NY, townhouse.

GLEE takes its final bow with a sixth and final 13-episode season starting with a special two-hour premiere event Friday, Jan. 9 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). New Directions’ original star, RACHEL BERRY (Golden Globe Award nominee Lea Michele), comes home to Lima, after her humiliating failure as a TV actress, and discovers that SUE SYLVESTER (Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch) has banished the arts at McKinley. Throughout its closing season, McKinley alumnae will return to say “good-bye” to the award-winning and groundbreaking musical comedy. The series makes its time period premiere Friday, Jan. 16 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and air all-new episodes for 11 consecutive weeks, culminating in a special two-hour Series Finale on Friday, March 20 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

Returning series premiering this winter include MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, which returns for its third season of talented kids, astounding culinary abilities and delicious challenges. Featuring host and award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay, restaurateur Joe Bastianich and acclaimed chef Graham Elliot, cycle three of MASTERCHEF JUNIOR gets cooking Tuesday, Jan. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), leading into all-new episodes of NEW GIRL (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and THE MINDY PROJECT (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT).

On Monday, March 2, hit psychological thriller THE FOLLOWING returns for its third shocking season with a special two-hour Season Three premiere event (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and moves to its regular time period the following week on Monday, March 9 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

The first week of March also sees Chef Gordon Ramsay firing up a new season of HELL’S KITCHEN, beginning Tuesday, March 3 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). BONES returns with all-new cases Thursday, March 26 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), followed by BACKSTROM (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

  1. "The Following" doesn't premiere until March? That's late. It didn't come back that late last year, did it?

  2. This is confusing and like all over the place

  3. Sorry about that this is just how FOX released it, I can help clarifiy anything you dont understand :)

  4. Oh not you I am talking about FOX schedule which is meh

    ReplyDelete
  5. Did I miss the after holiday return of Red Band Society; or will it be ending?

    ReplyDelete
  6. It's not offical but It's very likely to not be returning sadly. Especially since Empire is taking over it's timeslot.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Nope, but Sleepy Hollow's season was 5 episodes less last year. :)

why is Bones so late to return.......don't tell me it because of idol.......

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sigh. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why so late with The Following? It's always started in January.

    ReplyDelete
  11. How about Wayward Pines and Bordertown?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sleepy Hollow has a longer season this year, it will still have episodes to air next year hence the delayed premeire for The Following. Hope that helps :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah it does but I was hoping it would be back around the same time as last year as I'm really looking forward to it. It was a top 10 show for me last year.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hopefully it will be worth the wait :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hopefully it will. I have enough returning on January anyways. Justified, Shameless, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Cougar Town,Helix, The Americans, House of Lies and Episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. not sure why but the notion of Glees final season makes me smile.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bones. :( I really hope the hiatus doesn't kill it like the move from Friday back to Monday did last year. (The HIMYM effect, but with TBBT.)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Truth to be told, this is exactly what mos of the people who were against the Friday move last year argued that FOX should have done instead: place Bones on hiatus. If everything goes well for FOX, that's great and Bones returned on the announced date. If something flops, Bones can come to the rescue.

Personal opinion: Backstorm will get destroyed as soon as the blacklist and scandal arrive in the slot so Bones will come to the rescue about one month or so earlier than expected, effectively preventing another rake situation for FOX. AI will probably have to air on Thursdays the whole year, whether FOX likes it or not.

  19. RBS is unoffically cancelled

    ReplyDelete
  20. I guess they will air in the late spring/summer?

    ReplyDelete
  21. It started in late Jan last year

    ReplyDelete
  22. It sounds like they are trying to finish glee as soon as they can

    ReplyDelete
  23. Finally a freaking date for the Following. But geez they pushed it way back! And Glee, even though it's sucked its' last two seasons, and I'm really not liking anything I've heard of this season to come, I will still miss it when it ends. I mean i'm a gleek after all.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess The Following has a shorter order this season then. Will Glee be matching Hart of Dixie ratings on a Friday?! Should have left it until summer. Backstrom has no chance in that slot.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Uh oh... The Following will drop to Low 1.0. I Expected it to move to Friday but it wouldn't be compatible with Glee so i see why the are keeping it on Monday.

And How low can Glee go?
I expect it will drop to 0.4-0.5 during this season and the series finale will maybe get around a 1.0

All in all... i don't see this midseason Schedule helping FOX this season. FOX is a mess. The only shows which have a chance is Empire or Backstrom. The Following will be cancelled and the Comedys are D.O.A... They should have kept Hyroglyph... That's the only midseason show i was lookign forward too...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Come on. They ended filming Wayward Pines in February, released trailer etc. few months later and we have to wait over a year for a premiere for no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just saw the trailer for The Last Man on Earth (I didn't know it existed). I don't know if I'll stick with it, but the trailer was pretty entertaining and I at least want to see the Pilot...

The idea that Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch will finally be free of this mess makes me smile.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, I don't think "Wayward Pines" is premiering until the summer. It's supposed to be their summer event series, a la "24: Live Another Day".

That's what I am wondering.....they have new episodes of Mulaney airing which is higher on the cancellation predictor table than RBS....so where is RBS? They cannot tease a fall finale and then not bring it back....it at least deserves its full season :/

    ReplyDelete
  31. Except RBS' ratings are lower than Mulaneys

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll be checking out Backstrom and i can't wait for The Last Man on Earth...at least the pilot, the promo was hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Fox hasn't renewed SleepyHollow... should I fear?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nope, they won't renew it yet. Later in the season.
