The Walking Dead - Slabtown - Advance Preview

2 Nov 2014

Since the beginning of the extraordinary 5th season of The Walking Dead, I’ve been missing Beth (Emily Kinney) so much and I have started to grow quite anxious over her absence (and those rumors and talks about her death didn’t help either). Well, finally, Beth will make her return in the next episode, titled “Slabtown”, airing next Monday on FOX UK and this Sunday on AMC. Yay !

I’m very fond of Beth, especially since the excellent “Still” last season but I've always appreciated her. At first, I must admit I didn’t think she would survive very long and I wouldn’t have mind actually. I even wish she died, especially after her suicide attempt. I didn’t understand her. Thanks to Gimple’s amazing work since last season, we finally got to understand Beth better and we watched her evolved so much.
She reminds of Carol in a way, both being useless at first and then changed and proved they were true survivors. Of course, Carol is way more badass than Beth, but Beth is slowly changing. She is like a younger version of Carol. She hasn’t gone through life with an abusive husband, she is still young and inexperienced. Beth never really lived actually, she was overprotected back at her farm. Since the zombie apocalypse and the arrival of Rick’s group, her life has been turned upside down. She has lost her family and friends; and for the first time, she has to take care of herself.
Since her stay at the prison, Beth has grown stronger, and colder. She has accepted the reality she lives in, the deaths, the horror, the loneliness, the lack of comfort and safety. Last year in “Still”, Beth proved she was a real survivor, despite of everything, all the attacks, she managed to survive.
I’m very fond of her character for that, and of Carol too, because they were weak people, clearly not the kind of people you’d bet they’d survive a zombie apocalypse. But, they did survive, because they made the right choices. I can identify myself more with them than with Rick or Michonne. And they even both have Daryl as a protector friend.

Anyway, I really hope you like Beth as much as I do because she will be the main character of next episode, “Slabtown”. The whole episode is about her and what’s happening to her since she was taken by the people in the white crossed car. Here’s a list of what you can expect from ‘Slabtown” :

- Beth will wake up in a new place : a hospital facility. It looks like a great place to survive, the better place I’ve seen since Hershel’s farm I think. But like back at Woodsbury or in Terminus, there is always a price to pay for safety. The new place is run on a special concept, I can understand it but I totally disagree with it. They’re not cannibals, but they’re not far from Terminus’s ideology in a way.
- A disgusting amputation, done without anesthetic, and not in the dark like Rick did on the boy with Hershel. It's very bloody.
- If you think Beth would be mentioning her sister, well you’re wrong. She won't talk about Maggie, and there won't be any signs she's thinking about her. What's wrong between them ? Is there something between them ? It’s like they’re forget they were sisters.
- Tyler James Williams will make his first appearance in that episode, playing Noah. His character is very interesting and looks promising. He will become Beth’s friend in that place, the girl needs at least one ally in there. Their dynamic is very enjoyable, - Among Noah, new characters of that place will be introduced : a female officer, a male officer, another "patient" as Beth and a male doctor. One of them is very, very creepy and dangerous.
- The very first scene is disturbing, but not in a horror way. It’s just so weird, it’s so different from what we usually see on The Walking Dead, I didn’t think it was real at first
- The people in that place have found a funny way to deal with corpses, IMO.
- One of the last scenes of the episode will become my (and yours too I’m sure) favorite Beth moment ever on The Walking Dead.
- Another main character will appear at the very end of the episode !

I must admit, even if I appreciate Emily Kinney’s work as Beth, I was a bit afraid when I heard about a Beth centric episode. I didn’t think she could carry the whole episode on her shoulders, and I thought it would be boring after 15 minutes. I couldn’t have been more wrong, Emily Kinney is truly amazing in “Slabtown”. She will show all the diversity of Beth. She really surprised me. And the episode is so well written and very surprising, it'll keep you on the edge of your seat.

And of course finally, the quotes game. This week it’s different, as the episode is focused on Beth, I’ll give the list of characters. So, guess which quotes are from Beth, Noah, Dawn (the female officer), Joan (the other "patient") and Steven (the male doctor) :

1- "If we take, we give back. It’s only fair"
2- "I guess it's easy to make a deal with the devil when you're not the one paying the price"
3- "They don't know shit about me, about what I am, about what you are"
4- "As bad as it gets, it's still better than down there"
5- "Every sacrifice we make needs to be for the greater good"
6- " I'm giving you food, clothes, protection. When have those things ever been free ?"
7- "Nobody’s yours"
8- "You’re lucky if you’re safe enough to be bored"

Are you excited about the episode ? I know Beth isn’t a fan favorite, but I’m certain after this episode, she will have a larger fan base. Let’s discuss "Slabtown" and don’t miss it next Monday on FOX UK, and this Sunday on AMC. Hit the comments !

  1. Thanks for the preview!

I swear, Gimple can make excuses till his voice goes raw, I will never understand WHY Maggie and Beth seemed to have forgotten about one another. Yes, it's easy to assume the worst about missing loved ones during a zombie apolcolypse; NO, it doesn't make sense that aside from a throwaway voiceover in the premiere, these two wouldn't still be bent on at least trying to find one another.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I'm really really curious about the operations of this hospital and why Beth was abducted. If they had to kidnap her, clearly they are up to something shady. Do we get any concrete evidence, or at least a vague reference to what's going on at the hospital in this episode?

  4. Thank you!!!!
I'm so excited about this episode, like you, I really missed Beth since the season starts and I'm glad she's back.
I'm really excited to see this new place and what they are doing in there.
But what I really want to see is how Beth lives in this new environment and how it changes her.
And I'm also really excited to see the dynamic between Beth and Noah, I smell a good friendship in the making and I think both need it.

  5. Beth mentioned her sister more times in S4 than Maggie did and she doesn't say anything about her this episode probably because unlike Maggie she isn't with her family. but that doesn't take away the fact that Beth mentioned her sister in one episode (Still) more times than Maggie has since the prison fell.

  6. As a Beth fan I'm so excited for this episode! One quick question. Is Beth a badass in this episode?

    1) Steven
    2) Joan
    3) Beth
    4) Noah
    5) Dawn
    6) Dawn
    7) Beth
    8) Beth

  7. Well, I know which main character we will see at the end and after playing Survival Instinct and I have an idea what's going on in this hospital. But you made me very very curious about what's going to be the best Beth moment ever. I saw it coming since season 4 that she's becoming a bad ass. But I'm so much curious what her first real bad ass moment will be. There's nothing more awesome than seeing Rick beating the shit out of his enemies. But after that the most exciting thing at this point is to see Beth evolving becaus there is so much potential. I can't wait to see Maggie meeting her "new sister".

I won't participate in the quotes game this time because I know some (but not all) things.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Does Beth mention Daryl at all?

    ReplyDelete
  9. They don't mention each other for one very simple reason. If someone is missing in this world. Then there is a very good chance they're dead. And dealing with death is a painful thing. But in this world they can't stop. They can't mourn...they always have to keep moving forward trying to survive. And sometimes. In order to move forward you have to forget. Or at least try to. That's why Tyreese doesn't want to talk about the girls. And that's why the sisters don't mention each other...

I'm not really interested by Beth, but your preview made me curious. Can't agreed more about Beth and Maggie. Anyway, greatpreview, here's for the game.

  11. You've got to work on writing unbiased reviews bud.....also is English your first language? Sure doesn't seem like it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. On another note. I'm actually dreading this episode. I haven't liked anything Emily has done so far, I don't understand why Gimple is giving the weakest member of the team her own episode, when there are so many more stronger actors and more interesting characters that would be better to have as a standalone episode.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I haven't likes any senseless shipping war about any series so far.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't remember much from the Beth episodes from S4, but I'll take your word for it! I just mean that the plot ignores their relationship iand n unbelievable ways and priority to one another, and I blame that on the writers and Gimple. Maggie's character

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah but gimple clearly doesn't like them as much lmao ... Emily Kinney is a good actress and if you don't like her don't watch trust me sweetie that won't hurt the ratings at all.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And you could be nice as well. No need to be harsh like that. She's just explaining her point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  17. #7 "nobody's yours". Does that have anything to do with Noah belonging to the female cop?

    ReplyDelete
  18. We don't see what the Greene-sisters are doing 24 hours a day. So it's not really important for me to see them every minute talking about each other. It's their reunion which will show how strong their bond became.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I definitely think so.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks for the preview Romain but can I just add, to me, Carol was always a true survivor. Surviving an abusive marriage, protecting her daughter from that abuse. Just because she didn't seem capable doesn't mean she was useless. She was the opposite, long before the ZA. So the comment you made comparing Carol and Beth is a little redundant to me.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It totally could have been, but sorry it's not what #7 is about.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm pretty sure Romain is a guy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Seems like you've lost your manners.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why does Carol have to be brought up in this when this is a Beth Centric episode? Carol was an weak woman once upon a time sorry she wasn't a badass in S1

    ReplyDelete
  25. I understand totally your point of view, but one could argue she chose to stay in the relationship, of course it was complicated but sill it was a choice she made. There's no way to escape walkers
I meant Carol was weak as a survivor at first, she wasn't good with a weapon, and she didn't have any skills. But she has learnt, just like Beth does.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "So it's not really important for me to see them every minute talking about each other."

No but it would be nice to hear Maggie give maybe a 2 sentence line about Beth before leaving instead of leaving it for for an off-screen interview.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Did you watch "Still"? Because you wouldn't say that otherwise, but anyway, I guess "shippers" won't stop being rude to a character as good and well written as Beth *rolleyes*

    ReplyDelete
  28. well, damn! now I'm curious! Can I ask if it's in the same or different context?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe Gimple wanted to show the audience who doubted about Kinney's ability that she is a great actress and she totally fits into the cast.
And also Beth is interesting character, it's a character normal people can relate to. Like me

    ReplyDelete
  30. my bad...

    ReplyDelete
  31. The bad thing is that they're not just rude to a character but also to the actors. It's a shame that parts of the audience of a great show with great actors like EK and MMcB think they have to be on a Twilight team for one of both.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Because the author of this article brought Carol up to compare her with Beth. So I commented. It's usually how it works.

    ReplyDelete
  33. How does an article about a Beth episode turn into a Carol comparison article? Beth can stand on her own with out being compared to a woman who once said she noticed her husband was looking at his daughter in a not so fatherly way.

    ReplyDelete
  34. the word 'excellent' and the episode 'Still' can't be in the same sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, it would been nice to have Maggie mention her sister once in a while. She was obsessed over Glenn but maybe because she thinks her sisters is weak and so she died at the prison.
Anyway, we will definitely learn more about the hospital and what's going on there. There is some mystery at first but everything will become clearer by the end of the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I thought they alluded to Carol thinking Ed would or could Molest her daughter and she didn't do shit about it. Yeah, I knew she was a horrible mother for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "compared to a woman who once said she noticed her husband was looking at his daughter in a not so fatherly way."

I'm sorry, but can you clarify what you mean by this statement?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Congrats you got 4 this week :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree with everything you said except for that crazy comment on how you think women in abusive relationships choose to stay.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You're welcome, and from what you've said I'm pretty sure you will love the episode. I love the new Beth in this new environment, and her interactions with Noah are great

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah, I understood that Maggie loves Glenn and wanted to find him, but it was very surprising and then became frustrating when she forgot Beth existed for the rest of 4B :/

I'm glad the hospital's purpose will be made clear!

    ReplyDelete
  42. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:13

man, I stink at this game :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Have you seen the screener too? What did you think of it? I can't wait to see Beth. Its been a long 8 months.

    ReplyDelete
  44. She will have a badass moment, totally.
And you got 4 out of 8, congrats

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes it can, because that episode was, in fact, excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's sad when the actress herself (MMB) has to come out and tell her fans to be nice. That's just embarrassing

    ReplyDelete
  47. If she would already have been useful in season 1 her husband would have been in jail.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It didn't have Carol in it so it must have been bad

    ReplyDelete
  49. In your opinion of course.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Beth isn't my favourite character, but I think it's best to go into the episode with an open mind and wait to judge until after watching.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The main character at the end surprised me but it makes sense. Can't wait for next week already haha.
Beth's moment is great. She definitely has potential, I just want Michonne to teach her how to use the sword.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Actually, she kinda does.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Awesome! Thanks for the review. I've always felt that Emily was a great actress and it's nice to see that someone (you) who had some doubts about Emily was able to recognize her abilities. I hope that people who say hateful things about/to Emily will have an open mind going into this episode, but I think that some of them will hate it regardless of how great Emily is. Some can't get past their 'shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah, I guess that explains the "illogical" hate toward this episode...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Then why Maggie was sure Glenn was alive and went looking for him with Bob and Sasha ? If she has so much hope for her lover, why not for her sister. Ok Beth is weaker than Glenn, but still. Maggie quickly forgot her sister

    ReplyDelete
  56. Romain, I think you're being very level headed in responding to all the comments, but I don't think your comment about Carol "choosing" to stay with her abuser is very appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm glad you're curious about her, I hope you'll like Beth more after Sunday's episode.

    You got 2 correct ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. And yet Beth wanted to commit suicide in S2?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Season 2 in the church, while she was praying.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well, you just got me excited again, thank you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well I thought it was excellent.

You do realise that people are allowed to have different opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's called Depression which is a chemical imbalanced in the brain. So thank you for telling everyone who has depression that they're in fact useless.

    ReplyDelete
  63. No, I mean what are you IMPLYING by this statement?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sorry, Romain, I appreciate the preview but I can't seem to grasp the same similarities you do between Beth and Carol. I have never thought of Carol as useless at all. She was in an abusive marriage and surviving a life of hell long before the ZA even began. THAT is a strength all its own. And it was not a "choice" for her to stay.

Beth had been a sheltered teenager with a loving family her entire life. It wasn't until after the ZA that Beth had to face things that she likely would never have had to face had it not happened. But then everyone has had to face those same things at the same time.

Not everyone has had to endure what Carol has had to endure both before the ZA and after. And yet she still manages to stand strong and survive. I know you're a Carol fan too but I'm not sure I quite agree with the comparison you made here.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Suicide in that situation would be a very natural thing to want to do for much of the population but I don't think many woman are like Honey Boo Boo's mom and would keep a man around who knows the man may cause harm to their child.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Maggie since meeting Glenn has been very "Only" Glenn and it's what makes her character boring.

    ReplyDelete
  67. How on earth did you get that from my comment? A fictional character decided she was going to take her own life because she didn't want to live in the ZA.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Alluding to something does not make it a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That Carol hate is strong with you.

    ReplyDelete
  70. If I thought my Abusive husband COULD even go there I would have put my child first and foremost and left the SOB but Carol couldn't even do that.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Carol was even weaker than Beth, she couldn't even follow her own daughter when she's being chasing by walkers, instead she did nothing but blaming on Rick who actually tried to safe her yet failed. She's not only weak she's an a$$hole IMO -_-

    ReplyDelete
  72. Beth faced depression, and Carol was caught in a cycle of abuse. They both seem like victims who grew stronger despite the odds being stacked against them and should be treated with respect.

    ReplyDelete

  74. So is a sword/knife involved? Or am I reading too much in the Michonne comment? Give some more hints. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Carol was an abuse victim caught in a cycle of abuse and couldn't break free. I agree that putting your children's safety first and foremost is vital, but I think you're simplifying the situation of abuse victims, which I felt the show broached very well when telling Carol's story.

    ReplyDelete
  76. There is a rumor that Noah is mentally disabled. Is that true?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Carol was very weak when the series began but it's a great thing that she was able to grow as a character. She has her flaws, but all great characters do.

    ReplyDelete
  78. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:31

It's sad when Emily had to do the same thing. lets keep the facts straight

    ReplyDelete
  79. Don't worry, S. I share the same opinion. I thought it was the weakest of [at least] season 4.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Do you know what else is embarrassing, having Daryl fans pretend their Beth fans because they hate Carol.

    ReplyDelete
  81. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:33

when she is relaying to Noah, where she was before being taken?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Really? when was this? Because what I know Emily has never had to do this at a con. Though in all fairness Emily fans don't throw out death threats, slut shame MMB ....

    ReplyDelete
  83. I'm a Beth fan, Actually, I'm a Emily Kinney fan and been one since seeing her on Broadway.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Is this a joke? Do you know how many names MMB has been called by "Beth" fans? I have several examples I could easily show you!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Please do. I bet it won't be anywhere near a death threat that was said not two weeks ago by a Carol fan. but please show me.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well that's fabulous. But I meant collectively. Hence the plural.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Beth has a very strong fan base on some forums.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Maybe people just hate Carol? You ever thought about that?

    ReplyDelete
  89. She has a huge fanbase already, all you have to go is go on her twitter account 400k

    ReplyDelete
  90. I dont remember that from the episode, but okay if you say so.

    ReplyDelete
  91. But isn't hate a strong word? What did the character Carol do or not do, to get such a strong reaction from you?

    ReplyDelete
  92. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:42

I do not remember which article is was from, as it was around the end of season 4. But she basically stated that fans needed to be nicer towards one another. Hers included. And I am for both characters/actresses. I just DO NOT SHIP. And this is why. People bashing each other and threatening each other, over fictitious characters. That is just childish.

    ReplyDelete
  93. That was MMB that said that not Emily kinney.

    ReplyDelete
  94. This isn't or wasn't even about Shipping this was about a Centric Beth episode that Carol fans needed to bash Emily's acting once again even if this whole review had nothing to do with Carol. I find it funny, if this was an article about Carol you would find Zero Beth fans commenting.

    ReplyDelete
  95. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:46

Sorry Elizabeth, but it was an article interview for Emily. Melissa was not interviewed. I know you do not like the Carol character, but - Please don't try an prove my point on how childish it is.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I know it was an article that MMB said for the fact that I follow a Carol fan and she reblog it on tumblr. please stop lying. word from word was said by Melissa not Emily. Emily has never spoke about her fans being rude, NEVER.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Chandra M. Jordan31 October 2014 at 19:50

Gotta disagree that Carol is more badass than Beth but that's dependent on how you view badass as well. They're both badass really, and they both have their strengths and deficits. To me, no reason or need to elevate one over the other either, jmo and so not saying this author is demeaning any character either. It sounds like she really does wonders in this episode, I'm glad you liked it and hope everyone else does as well. I doubt anyone could call her weak or useless after this either! I think I know the main character we see, which is kind of neat for the author if it's who I think. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Does Beth have a twitter? I thought that was EK?

    ReplyDelete
  99. You should probably go back and watch that episode.

    ReplyDelete
  100. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:53

Sad fact Elizabeth. Beth fans have done just that. The war between the 2 has and still is taking it toll on other fans of the show. And now, you just proved my point.

    ReplyDelete
  101. killing two adults and a child isn't a flaw.

    ReplyDelete
  102. both side of the fence31 October 2014 at 19:55

I will not use my time to search for the interview. the fact that you can not except that Emily has hateful fans, right along with Melissa fans, just shows how biased you are.

    ReplyDelete
  103. What about the Beth fan threatening to stream her suicide if Gimple kills Beth? Then tweeting it to Gimple? What's that classed as?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Uh, I bet they are!!! In fact, I can tell you think you're calling some kind of bluff here with me, don't you? Let me tell you that you're NOT. I screencaptured them all on my computer but I don't think they're even appropriate to share on this site. That's how offensive they are! If I knew of a way to get them to you I WOULD. Of the more recent (and LEAST offensive if you can believe it) comments she was called a "muddy old hag" on tumblr. So don't act like Beth fans are saints.

    ReplyDelete
  105. There is a rumor that Noah may be mentally disabled. Is that true?

  107. She's called a hag who cares that's nothing. Carol fans call Emily a Brat child who slept her way to the her character living. I would say that's a lot more damaging to ones career.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I haven't seen any signs pointing to it

    ReplyDelete
  109. She was still interesting at the start of their relationship, but since season 4, she's kinda boring I agree.

    ReplyDelete
  110. @Heather @Kelly Elizabeth @Elizabeth Please just stop now.

    Take this conversation elsewhere please.

This thread is about discussing THIS episode not stupid Fandom Wars.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Are you going to tell me she didn't go after her daughter because Lori stopped her? -_- Was Lori a wrestler or something? -_-

    ReplyDelete
  112. And yet she was forgiven by Tyreese and told by Daryl "Whatever happened, happened."

    ReplyDelete
  113. No a sword or a knofe, but Beth will held something sharp. But it's not during her badass moment

    ReplyDelete
  114. We'll see when Carol and Daryl's bottle episode happens if any Beth fans go on the review and start something. It won't happen I know that.

    ReplyDelete
  115. lol Shes weak and an asshole huh? Guess storming Terminus by herself makes her weak, and saving EVERYONE makes her an asshole,,,got yea...just shows how ignorant some of this fanbase is...

    ReplyDelete
  116. I just finished saying that was the LEAST offensive one. You're clearly ignoring everything and just listening to what you want to hear. I'm not saying EK hasn't been called names - maybe she has. I don't follow her so I don't know. But I'm telling you MMB has been called TERRIBLE things by so-called 'innocent' Beth fans. So your attempts to try to make out that Carol fans are malicious and immature can be thrown right back the other way. I'm done with this conversation.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I apologize. I won't be continuing this discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I admit I had some doubt, back in season two, and in season three, she seemed a little off, but I think it was actually because of the writing, they didn't know what to do with Beth. Since Gimple is in charge, he has found a story for Beth and Emily Kinney is perfect in it.

    ReplyDelete
  119. really cause I see Beth fans coming in all the time on Carol centric articles commenting....most of them are very civil and polite, but then there are ones like you....

    ReplyDelete
  120. No it's very hard this week, 3 out of 8 isn't that bad.

    ReplyDelete
  121. You are definitely ignorant to the whole psychology of abused women....

    ReplyDelete
  122. We're talking about season 1&2 and you're talking about season 5 -_- notice the past tense?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Are you going to try and tell me the WRITERS didn't purposefully WRITE it that way?! Mind blown..

    ReplyDelete
  124. We know that Noah gets out without Beth, so does he leave her behind? Is he trustworthy?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Maybe Beth doesn't want to leave alone the "secret main character".

    ReplyDelete
  126. My last question I promise (sorry just very excited that Beth is back), what surprised you the most about Beth? Thank you for the great review!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Stop this now or you will be banned

    ReplyDelete
  128. Are you saying that Garreth is actually not a cannibal he only seems like a cannibal because the writers created him that way and the faults all on the writer? I'm confused.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I think that's after the escape attempt. Wish I hadn't caved and watched the leaked clips. I love spoilers and couldn't resist.

    ReplyDelete
  130. What I'm trying to say is that you seem to have fiction and reality mixed up. But that totally explains your snark.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I didn't mean like it was a deliberate choice, I mean she could have run away with Sofia, she chose to stay to protect Sofia from a dangerous life on the run, and to try to keep her family together and to change things. She put herself aside and let her husband decide.
I meant to oppose it to the apocalypse, where you have no choice at all
And mostly I'm not speaking for women in abusive relationships, just for Carol.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Her badass moment at end, definitely. I knew it was coming, but it didn't expect it so soon, and so good. I love this girl and what she stands for.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Do you even watch this show? No one who has watched this show with an ounce of competency can say that Carol took ANY joy in killing those people. But she did it because it was in accordance with her moral code. Her moral code is FLAWED, which is why she is struggling at the idea of staying with the group. She literally has been given a fresh start, with people who know her sins, but she struggles daily to make peace with the things she has done. She is not a "Shane", who blames his faults on the people around him; she sees her darkness, and it is a daily struggle for her.

I wonder, how immense is your hatred for Tyreese, who consented to Lizzie being killed? Or Rick? Who know she killed them, but embraced her, regardless? Or Daryl, who knows her darkness, and still cares for her and wants her to start over? Or any of the group, for that matter?

Carol is not a "good" character, but she is a GREAT character because she has ugliness and goodness inside of her, much like Rick does. She is multifaceted, and I'm just sorry that your hatred is blinding so that you can't appreciate the complexities of character in this character drama.

    ReplyDelete
  134. What??? What part are you referring to??? lol Since when have I ever mentioned anything from reality? I talked about the fictional character (Carol) and how she seemed like an a$$hole to me because she blamed on Rick (story line in a show) Sometimes I can't understand people's logic -_-

    ReplyDelete
  135. I agree there....

    ReplyDelete
  136. yeah, and I expressed mine.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I like the reviews when you told us every last detail that happens in the episode. Kinda disappoint by just a summary of the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Nice preview. Looking forward to this episode. Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of 'Still' - though the development of Beth was sound (not outstanding, but not terrible), it felt a little odd at times - but I am excited to see Beth again.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Its a touchy subject, I know but you don't get a choice in an abusive relationship. Carol didn't just let Ed decide. In those situations it's the abusers way or no way. And we saw that very early on in S1 between the two of them.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I don't like Carol. It was the bad acting and the weak plot to make it one of the worst episode ever to me.

    ReplyDelete
  141. We've never posted previews like that. You must be confusing us with someone else

    ReplyDelete
  142. "Shes not only weak she's an asshole" Looks present tense to me.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Um, I'm not even a native speaker but in my text book, "She was" can also be written as "She's". I don't know maybe our text books are crap lol

    ReplyDelete
  144. I guess they are *Shrug*

    ReplyDelete
  145. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thank You. I have always felt that EK needed a showrunner that was willing to write a compelling story for her. Gimple seems to be that one!

    ReplyDelete
  147. Gosh, you're killing me with talk of her badass moment. Can't wait to see what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Thanks for the article! I actually find Beth waaaaaaay more interesting and intriguing to watch then Maggie.

How does Beth make reference to Daryl in the episode?

    ReplyDelete
  149. OK obviously I was the crappy student lol. I corrected it, there.

    ReplyDelete
  150. My guess:

    1. the female officer
    2. the patient
    3. Noah
    4. Doctor
    5. Beth
    6. the female officer
    7. Beth
    8. the patient

    :D

    ReplyDelete
  151. Well, I was going to say the main character at the end was Darryl, but he wouldn't be surprising. Carol either, since they left together. So I don't know who it could be.
Question: is Father Gabriel a regular? Or when you said "main" did you mean the main core group: Rick, Glenn, Maggie, Sasha, etc.?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Not all Carol fans are that way. However there are a few Beth fans who need serious therapy. Here's what I don't get with the shipper crap. Why is it ok to almost turn Daryl into a pedophile with Beth, but it's an atrocity for Daryl to be someone only a few years younger then him. Where's the logic in that?

    ReplyDelete
  153. Totally agree with you Heather!

    ReplyDelete
  154. Beth is brought up in everything even when she is not part of the article or spoiler. That is a two way street.

    ReplyDelete
  155. ^Here's an example of what Beth fans do to start fights with the Carol fans!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Where's Romain? T_T

    ReplyDelete
  157. I'm sure he'll be along when he has time to go through all the guesses :)

  158. Chandra M. Jordan31 October 2014 at 21:27

THANK YOU. Thank you for saying this. For the record, Daryl would not be a pedophile if/when he's with Beth, that's why. It is absolutely DISGUSTING to use the term "pedophile" for a relationship that would be between two consenting adults, and both are adults as stated by everyone on the show. This pedophilia thing, it's a real world issue that happens every day and it's not right to use it towards a relationship that someone doesn't agree with. I saw that in a comment above and it's so gross, honestly.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Sorry I needed to catch up with other shows and working on my AHS review :)

    ReplyDelete
  160. Excellent you got 5

    ReplyDelete
  161. You're welcome :) You got 4 congrats :)

    ReplyDelete
  162. I like Beth way more than Maggie, she's so more interesting. Maggie kinda lost her magic since a year.
Beth will want to know if Daryl had been taken along with her.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Thanks, at first I wasn't very thrilled by Still either by I have rewached it a couple of times, and I really enjoyed it.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I don't consider Gabriel as a regular. As main character I mean one of the group, someone Beth knows.

    ReplyDelete
  165. You're doing a great job! :D and thanks for the guessing game! :D

I'm guessing he doesn't see her as weak or a bad actress is why and honestly, it's an insult to casting to say any one of them is weak. It takes a LOT to be a casting director, so I'd think they'd know better than anyone else. Beth is a very interesting character and Emily is a fantastic actor.

    ReplyDelete
  169. To be honest, I see Beth as the complete opposite of Carol: a sheltered and favorite youngest daughter that hasn't really lost her identity since the zombies took over the world.

Carol, on the other hand, has lost everything that defined her ever since this started: her home, he daughter, even her abusive husband.

Even the way Daryl relates to them is different: he gravitates towards Carol, where Beth is the one that gravitates towards him.

The relationship with Grimes is also different for Rick relies on Carol, almost like a husband would rely on his wife, when it comes to the group and Beth is more of a burden no different than Patrick or Molly used to be for him.

The only similarity perhaps is Judith since they both women genuinely care about her, but even then Carol sees her as this small friend rather than the daughter Rick expected would make up for Sophia, and Beth is the one that sees Judith as a potential daughter.

No, I don't think Beth could carry a whole episode, or at least not the way Carol did on "Home" and this season premiere, but the way Beth reacts to events might and I'm looking forward to it.

    ReplyDelete
  170. For one Sasha and Tyreese never metiones one another until they were reunited. Wath their episodes again: only Bob mentioned Tyreese, and only Lizzie mentioned Sasha.

Each sibling believed the other one was death until Carol & Rick brought them together.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Something she sees in there must be important, probably connected to Eugene's cure, Morgan's journey or Rick's group/family.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Carol already told Rick why she stayed in the relationship: her idea of happiness was not to be alone. Even Rick stayed in a relationship with Lori despite they both agree she used to verbally abuse him only to get a reaction rather than stay alone, so anyone could relate to that.

That being said, there's a difference between being seen as weak and actually being weak and Carol was only seen as weak: by her husband, by Rick, even by her own daughter which is probably what got her killed. However, Carol has unveiled a strenght that Daryl was only the first to see (and one can only hope he's not going to be last)..

    ReplyDelete
  173. I'd say they both felt the same way when they lost Sophia, Lori said so herself: Rick couldn't even look at Carol's face without reminding himself of it.

Even at the funeral, Rick and Carol were the only 2 people on that group who reacted like Sophia was already dead by the time they opened that barn, and they were only ones who agree the were burying a thing rather than a child.

By the time they lost Lori, Carol was about the only thing that made Rick smile again. And he only stopped the senseless violence against walkers once Carol showed up

    ReplyDelete
  174. I just think it's a loose point in the plot. I mean, they do take into account the relationship between Tara and Maggie considering the fact that Tara was with the Governor when attacking the prison, but they completely forget that Maggie and Beth are sisters? I mean, who cares about Tara? (It's a nice character, but she's still tooooo secondary). I just don't see any coherence. Maybe Scott Gimple is hiding something, but it doesn't make any sense for me.

And good preview, interesting and without big spoilers :). I am really looking forward to seeing Emily as the main actress this episode!

    ReplyDelete
  175. Let's give it a try...

1- "If we take, we give back. It’s only fair"
    Dawn
2- "I guess it's easy to make a deal with the devil when you're not the one paying the price"
Joan (it seems there is something strange with this character... ¬¬)
3- "They don't know shit about me, about what I am, about what you are"
    Beth
4- "As bad as it gets, it's still better than down there"

  178. Thanks for the preview, I like Beth and I happy she get more space in this episode. About her relationship with Maggie, something is really wrong with this two, first Maggie go with Glenn and didn't care about finde her sister, now Beth not mention her sister, I agree with you romain, something is really wrong here.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I usually enjoy your previews, this week I didn't. I know you like Carol but was it necessary to make this huge comparison between Carol and Beth for a Beth centric episode? I also didn't get why there was a need to make a negative comment about Rick and Michonne just because they were forced to figure out how to survive in the world faster then others. They're not even in the episode! Rick was forced into leadership and Michonne didn't have group protection. She had no choice but to learn how to survive on her own. Though I 'm not a big fan of Beth, the episode sounds exciting!

  187. This is my 3rd week of reading any kind of spoilers for this show and I just can't believe what I am seeing. The super funny part about all the "Carol and Beth snarky thing"....is they are both terrific characters....and it seems people are pairing off,....choosing teams if you will, over whom Daryl will choose as his own. I will put a large sum of money on the fact that Daryl's penis will never have a role in this show. Reading all this stupid fighting does one thing for me. It seems the people that are "team Beth" are really mean spirited people. I adore Beth and you are making me resent her and wish ill for her character just to spite the meanness her "fans" seem to show. I can't say I see the same type of vitriol coming from people that are "team Carol", but truthfully I don't see any "Beth Hate" coming from that team until pushed and pushed by a......OH for Pete's sake...I can't even believe I am trying to converse with this type of immaturity.

  188. Hi Romain - Can you tell us the max number of quotes by a person? Given only 5 choices at least 1 or more will have had to have more than one quote...so I am wondering if 1 person has 4 quotes or 3 people have 2 quotes etc...

  190. Oh god, please tell me it's not in a way that makes Bethyl more of a thing. If it is, I can't watch.

I didn't mind Beth before all that crap. Now I can't say I like her much. The story does look interesting, though, so we'll see.
