Any façade of a moral high ground has completely gone out the window if Esther and her toady son Finn are going to start forcing kids to murder people. All those Mikaelsons need to leave this show permanently except maybe Mikael.
I think it just goes to point out how unstable Esther is, and how righteous the brothers are in stopping her. Esther is evil. She did use black magic to make them into vampires against the witches wishes. (**if I remember TVD myth on this properly**)
I hope they don't get rid of the parents quickly and there are battles between them all and then the final war takes place at the end of the season. As Esther is far more formidable a foe then Marcel is, who is fighting to be kind of the quarter. This show needs truly evil foes to fight, in order to make it dynamic.
I can see your point of view but I don't come down on the same side of this. I've never been a fan of characters who are as blatantly and pompously full of sh*t as Esther is. Every time she opens her mouth I want nothing more than for someone to shut it for her. I'd love to see her and her two sons gone ASAP.
At least with Mikael, even if I don't particularly enjoy the character all that much, I can still enjoy the character's superb portrayal by Sebastian Roche. I get none of that sort of enjoyment from the other characters or the people who portray them.
As for Davina, she's the only semi-interesting witch left on the show who hasn't been killed off and if The Originals maintains their intent to see all of the supernatural factions represented on this show then it makes sense to keep her around.
On the other hand, they could get a coven going, where there are older witches....to balance out her teenage angst....
With respect to Esther....I don't think anyone likes her....which is the point....she makes an awesome baddie. I totally agree that Mikael should stick around. I include him in the keeping till the end of the season.
I just think that there is a helluva lot of story to tell, when the parents are on the show, and it alleviates the whole "Get Klaus" mentality. Which to me is one dimensional and will doom the show to failure if it continues.
I am really enjoying the psychoanalytic focus of the show, and the unpacking of the characters. It makes them seem more believable.
There are characters who people love to hate (that would be Mikael for many viewers) and those characters are fun to watch. Then there are characters people simply hate because they're poorly conceived, awful characters. In my opinion, Esther is one of those characters.
As for a coven, I'm all for getting one of those going but the show keeps shooting themselves in the foot by killing off all the interesting witches and keeping the annoying ones around. Until the show can find some truly interesting witch characters it's probably not the best idea to start multiplying their numbers. Quality before quantity.
For sure, I am all for quality. That being said, and I am thinking past Esther here....balance will need to be restored, and a witch coven could be a good thing. It would help the character of Davina out. Right now, she seems like the third big toe....ugly and unwanted.
So, Esther, who was hell-bent on keeping Klaus from activating his wolf gene and then once he did put a curse on him to make it dormant (that he had to kill three people to break) is now cool with having all these people go out and kill randoms to become werewolves?
I disagree that Davina holds no purpose (though currently she's on a selfish goal), but Esther is most definitely evil. None of these guys are the good guys, just protagonists and antagonists. Esther is crazy. She's wanted to kill her children forever, even tried go kill Hope, and hasn't cared about the people who get caught in the crossfire. She also emotionally manipulates her sons and has done so since they were humans. Now, even though she's leading this big revolution against vampirism because they're murderous and cruel, she's collecting a bunch of untriggered wolf teens and forcing them to slaughter innocent humans just so she can use them as part of her personal army.
Esther is a very complex character indeed. Totally agree with your comment that none of the characters are good....however, with Esther and Mikael around the brothers halos do seem to shine a bit brighter. The complex baddie parents make their children seem like alter boys. IMO.
I know that I am in the minority about Davina....but I have never liked this character.....to me, and I guess here is where we can agree, the writers have just used the character as a plot driver.....the writers have given the character no purpose....its not about the actress playing the character... by no means...I think she is actually pretty good....its the character that serves no role on the show. To further this, to have her play a physical leash....like really....this seems egregiously messed up....it just further highlights the lack of role the character has.
why is camille mad at klaus they had a hell of a moment in the premiere, and just when i thought i couldn't hate esther any more than i thought she goes and wants to turn kids into murderers geez this woman ans i don't want josh with that moonlight ring wearing werewolf he'll try to use him and then try to kill him and i want josh on the show forever
Pretty sure that was all just to keep her affair a secret, stop Klaus from becoming an abomination of nature and prevent him from changing into a werewolf every full moon.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteBertha....how is esther evil exactly and how does davina serve no purpose? can you actually explain this to me or are you just bias?

yeah, seems like there is a bucket sized hole in this plotline!
