Scene Of The Week - October 12, 2014 - POLL

12 Oct 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY, "Monsters Among Us", October 8, 2014, Actors: John Carroll Lynch and more, The Scene: Twisty the Clown attacks the picnic couple (picked by Sharon Seymour)

ARROW, "The Calm", October 8, 2014, Actors: Caity Lotz, Paul Blackthorne and more,
The Scenes: Sara's death & Quentin's speech about the Arrow & Oliver kisses Felicity
Justyna Kubica:
First of all, I'm really not happy about this. From the very beginning of the show I was hoping that Sara will eventually turn out to be alive and we're gonna get to know her. Seeing Sara reunite with her father still remains one of my favorite moments. Actually all of their scenes were quite emotional and beautifully done. I've grown to really like and care about Sara. I was afraid she's going to die a few times last season but apparently she only survived to get killed in the season premiere this week. It was completely unexpected and I'm still pretty shocked (especially with the way she died, without a chance to say goodbye). And absolutely heartbreaking. Even more so with Laurel seeing her little sister fall from the roof. Such a powerful, emotional moment. With a truly great impact. Sara meant so much to so many people on the show that I can't believe it's going to be easy to accept what happened. I'm not sure I want to see Quentin's reaction at all. To lose a child is a terrible thing but to lose the same child again, murdered like that, it's just unthinkable... Farewell, Sara. You're already dearly missed!
Pablozky21: Coming from an episode that was pretty much calm and not much really happened- aside from developing Oliver and Felicity's relationship- everything seemed quite calmed in comparison of how we left things off in season. That's it until Sara is shot three arrows to her stomach and then falls from a building rooftop. It came in so shockingly and so unexpectedly that I couldn't even begin to process what happened. Once again, Arrow delivers an unexpected death.
Diana Mack: Sara gets killed by someone (maybe Slade?), and she falls from the roof, falling right in front of her sister Laurel. Also picked by Lilith Hellfire
Jamie Coudeville: Oliver kisses Felicity. As an Olicity fan, I've been waiting for this scene of a while. I didn't expect it to end so bittersweet but I still loved it.
Bradley Adams: Quentin gives his speech about disbanding the anti-vigilante task force to capture the Arrow.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE, "Golden Days for Boys and Girls", October 7, 2014, Actor: Marc Pickering, The Scene: Young Deputy Sheriff Thompson discovers Pat's dead body
Darth Locke:
Young Deputy Sheriff Enoch Thompson discovers the dead body of Pat under the boardwalk.

CASTLE, "Montreal", October 6, 2014, Actors: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, The Scene: The goodbye video
Diana Mack:
Castle and Beckett check on the USB he found in a box in a Montreal's bank. The USB contains a sweet and struggling video by Castle telling Beckett that if she's watching that, probably he's dead. Also, he never wanted to leave her during the wedding because he loves her and he've always loved her. He wishes he could tell her what's happening. Beckett smiles like all she wanted to hear was Castle saying he loves her.

DOCTOR WHO, "Mummy on the Orient Express", October 11, 2014, Actors: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, The Scene: Clara decides to stay with the Doctor & The Doctor faces the Foretold
Nirat Anop:
The Ending Scene - Clara decides to stay with the Doctor and continue having their adventures. I particularly liked this scene because I have come to really enjoy the banter between the two and the genuine friendship, though strange, it's definitely quite special. Though I worry about the aftermath of Danny finding out about this "lie". "What are you waiting for, let's go!" I can't wait for more of their scenes Capaldi and Coleman are doing a brilliant job.
Sandi: The Doctor faces the Foretold. As he 'foretold' to Perkins, he only needed a minute with the Mummy in order to work out how to defeat it, because he is both a genius and a madman. Though it does now seem that he has given Missy the knowledge on how to make an almost unkillable soldier for her army that she is collecting, which is unfortunate...

GOTHAM, "The Balloonman", October 6, 2014, Actors: Robin Lord Taylor and more, The Scene: Oswald knocks on Barbara and Jim's front door
Sandi:
So glad to see Oswald back in the city, as is Barbara in some ways I'm sure as it's undeniable proof that Jim is telling the truth about not killing him. It's going to be fun seeing what their unlikely partnership brings about, really enjoying Robin Lord Taylor in the role, he is perfectly cast.
Nirat Anop: The Ending Scene - Someone's knocking on Barbara and Jim's front door and it's Oswald. He's standing there in his suit, in a very Penguin styled manner before saying "Hello, Old Friend". I'm really looking forward to Oswald's return and the consequences of that. Robin Lord Taylor is doing brilliantly in his portrayal of one of my favorite Batman Villains.

GREY'S ANATOMY, "Got to Be Real", October 9, 2014, Actors: Kevin McKidd and more, The Scene: Owen talks about missing Cristina
Tonya Papanikolas:
Owen talks about missing Cristina and how he needs something good in his life. What a fantastic monologue. I couldn't believe how long it was - 3 minutes of just Owen talking - and the camera was on him the entire time. But it was worth it! Kevin McKidd gave a fantastic, heartfelt performance. He was phenomenal. And the monologue was so well written. I've loved how the show has made Cristina's move to Europe integral to the characters left behind. They're using her absence for great story, showing how characters like Owen are hugely affected by her leaving. His speech was wonderful, from saying he wakes up every morning with a pit and thinks maybe his dreams of having a family are over, to acknowledging that her opportunity was great for Cristina but not for him, to saying he needs a reason to get up in the morning. The whole scene was extremely poignant and impactful and made you feel how much he's clinging to anything good he can find right now.

HOMELAND, "Trylon and Perisphere", October 5, 2014, Actors: Rupert Friend and more
The Scene: Quinn takes his one night stand out to breakfast
Darth Locke:
Quinn takes his one night stand out to breakfast and gets into a fight with some jerky guys.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Making Friends and Influencing People", October 7, 2014, Actors: Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, The Scene: Fitz confronts Ward
Justyna Kubica:
It's hard to find a scene with better performances this week than this one. Iain De Caestecker is doing an incredible job this season and this moment may be his best one yet. Fitz discovers that Ward is locked up in their headquarters and he breaks down when he sees him. Still, he eventually manages to confront him and make him realize (even feel) what he has done. I never expected Fitz to actually kill Ward but it was still a dark moment for him when he lowered the oxygen in Grant's room. Fitz' desperation and heartbreak are all so visibly painful in the scene that it's hard not to understand his actions. I'm glad Ward is finally seeing the consequences of his choices and how much he hurt those around. He hasn't even started his road to redemption and clearly he has a very long way ahead of him. Poor Fitz is still mostly a shadow of his old self and every time it breaks my heart to see him like this. Hopefully, his recovery is not only possible but also in the near future. Kudos to the both amazing actors for making the scene seem so emotional, honest and powerful. Can't wait to see what's gonna happen next.
Klutzy girl: Fitz and Ward's meeting. Iain and Brett were absolutely amazing in that scene and I've already watched it a few times. I'm happy Ward confirmed what some of us have been saying for months - that he tried to save FitzSimmons from Garrett and give them a fighting chance. I definitely didn't expect Fitz to be so vindictive by lowering the oxygen in the room and I'm not happy with it even though he does have the right to be upset. I'm so excited to see what happens from here.
Jamie Coudeville: This scene was so poweful. Ian's acting was incredible. We kind of got to see a darker side to Fitz. I knew he wouldn't go through with actually killing Ward though.

NASHVILLE, "I Can't Get Over You to Save My Life", October 8, 2014, Actors: Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, The Scene: Juliette goes to Rayna for help about her pregnancy
Klutzy girl:
Those two have come a long way since the pilot and I love that they've become friends.

NCIS, "So It Goes", October 7, 2014, Actors: David McCallum, Alice Krige
The Scene: Ducky and Maggie at the end
Daniel van der Veer:
We learned so many things about Ducky this episode and David McCallum was phenomenal. The scene at the end was so beautiful. Ducky and Maggie realise they could have been together their entire lives if they had made different decisions. So to have them standing next to each other was an emotional moment. I hope Maggie returns sometime, and that maybe she and Ducky can still get together.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES, "Inelegant Heart", October 6, 2014, Actors: Daniela Ruah, Eric Christian Olsen, The Scene: Kensi and Deeks are boxing each other
Ben Norton:
This scene showed the relationship between Kensi and Deeks excellently. And don't forget they are both incredibly funny.

ONCE UPON A TIME, "White Out", October 5, 2014, Actors: Josh Dallas, Georgina Haig and more, The Scenes: Anna teaches Charming how to sword fight & Elsa accidently traps Emma and herself in an Ice Cave
Nirat Anop:
All of the moments between Elsa and Emma in the ice cave. Elsa asks Emma if she was cursed with powers, Emma tells Elsa not to be scared. Elsa says a semi-Frozen line "It never bothered me anyway" a nice parallel to 'Frozen's Let It Go'. Emma and Elsa have an amazing new friendship and definitely a lot in common and I cant wait to see it grow in further episodes. Darth Locke: Anna teaches Charming how to sword fight.

PARENTHOOD, "The Waiting Room", October 9, 2014, Actors: Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia
The Scene: Zeek gives to Camille his wedding ring
Francesco B:
Zeek gives to Camille his Wedding ring, and he opens his eyes when she gives it back after the surgery. This episode was so intense, and the acting is superb as usual.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Wingman", October 7, 2014, Actors: Jim Caviezel, Kevin Chapman
The Scenes: Reese kneecaps an escaping perp & Fusco meets the "wingman"
Bradley Adams:
Reese goes onto the top of a bus and kneecaps an escaping perp.
Sharon Seymour: Fusco meets the "wingman" for the first time whilst Shaw listens in. Very funny.

REIGN, "Drawn and Quartered", October 9, 2014, Actors: Adelaide Kane, Toby Regbo, Craig Parker, The Scene: Francis and Mary trick Lord Narcisse & Henry visits Francis
Sandi:
Henry visits Francis. I'm very happy that the show is finally bringing back a supernatural element, it's one of the main reasons I became interested in the first place. I wasn't happy at all with the change in history last season when they had Francis kill his own father, but this certainly makes up for it. I have a feeling that he will be driven completely insane by this and become as bad as his father.
Lilith Hellfire: Francis and Mary trick Lord Narcisse so that Nostradamus can live.

REVENGE, "Disclosure", October 5, 2014, Actors: Josh Bowman, Karine Vanasse
The Scene: Daniel and Margaux team up
Pablozky21:
While I expect most people going for the last scene where Charlotte starts a fire and leaves Emily to die, I actually liked even more the scene where Daniel and Margaux celebrate setting up Gideon and start talking about justice and doing what needs to be done. They are forming what looks like a really fun evil couple of which I can't wait to see been take down. Daniel lost every bit of his soul on the second half of season 3 and now it seems Margaux is about to do the same, and when this two come together to make evil schemes and stuff I just can't wait the moment in which Emily will take them down.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, "Root of All Evil", October 6, 2014, Actors: Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie
The Scene: Ichabod tells Abbie he watched the finale of Glee
Klutzy girl:
Ichabod telling Abbie he watched the finale of Glee was random and hilarious, and it's still one of my favorite moments of the week. Wonder what else he's watched.

THE BLACKLIST, "Dr. James Covington (No. 89)", October 6, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Ryan Eggold and more, The Scene: Liz has a dream about Tom and Red
Ben Norton:
This scene really intrigued me on what's to come this season. It makes me wonder whether Tom really is dead or not.

THE FLASH, "Pilot", October 7, 2014, Actors: Grant Gustin, John Wesley Shipp and more, The Scenes: Barry visits his father in prison & Barry meets with Oliver Queen & The end scene
Justyna Kubica:
The Flash certainly is one of my favorite pilots of the season. There were quite a few great scenes I could mention here but nothing so memorable for me like the moment when Barry visits his father in prison. His faith in his dad's innocence, for so many years, is quite incredible and says so much about him. Lately it seems that often when tragic things happen to one of the characters it just gives him an excuse to cause a lot of pain, even become evil as a result. Barry is a great example how a tragic history doesn't have to destroy you, it can also inspire you, make you determined to make things better and still believe in the good in people. It was such a beautiful moment when Barry visited his father and told him he's proud to be his son. Emotional, touching and very much human, in the middle of all the science fiction aspects of the show. A great pilot, cast and the story. Will definitely be back to see more. Kudos!
Tonya Papanikolas: Barry visits his dad in prison. I thought this was a great, emotional scene. It was touching to watch Barry tell his dad that he believed in him, that he knew his dad didn't kill his mom and that he was proud to be his son. With all the superhero elements of the show, I felt this scene really grounded the episode. Plus, it gave you a wonderful reason to connect to Barry, see what kind of guy he is and really feel for him.
Ben Norton: Barry meets with Oliver Queen. This scene definitely showed a whole lot can come from these crossovers. I definitely cannot wait to see what comes this season.
Francesco B: Barry remembers the death of his mother, and says to his father that he still believes in his innocence. Bradley Adams: The end scene with Harrison Wells entering a secret room.

THE LEGEND OF KORRA, "Korra Alone", October 10, 2014, The Scene: Korra meets Toph
Pablozky21:
There's nothing like a good Last Airbender reference for fans of both shows! The episode was pretty outstanding with a lot of scenes woth mentioning about Korra's healing process and her ultimate desire to get better on her own. But once we meet Toph it's such a great moment- one fans of Last Airbender waited for quite a long time- that it simply couldn't not be chosen. It leaves me wanting more and I'm waiting to see what happens next.

THE STRAIN, "The Master", October 5, 2014, Actors: David Bradley, Robert Maillet and more, The Scene: The Master falls out the window, takes off and disappears
Tonya Papanikolas:
What a great scene. Visually, it was fun to watch. And though I didn't think The Master would die easily, I also didn't expect him to be able to withstand the light. I loved how Setrakian didn't even have a chance to finish him off before The Master climbed down the walls of the building and disappeared. Right before this happened when it looked like he would die, it was fantastic to see all the other vampires downstairs suddenly stop what they're doing and walk backwards as if they're being rewound or pulled back by invisible strings. It was choreographed so well and looked awesome! Also picked by Sharon Seymour

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "Yellow Ledbetter", October 9, 2014, Actors: Nina Dobrev, Matt Davis, The Scene: Elena admits that Katherine was right
Francesco B:
Elena admits that Katherine was right: she loved both Damon and Stefan. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville

    Voted for:
OUAT - Elsa traps herself & Emma in the ice cave
OUAT - Anna teaches David how to fight
AOS - Fitz confronts Ward (nearly cried during this scene)

    Other:
    Once Upon a Time:
    - Emma & Elsa bonding in the ice cave
    - The Snow Queen at the end! (this was awesome!)

    The Strain:
    - When Gus was in that big room with the Ancients and those vampire assassins or whatever.

I thought the fight with the master was kinda silly, Setrakian just stood there for most of it and did nothing, he had so many opportunities to just cut The Masters head off but nope...he just stood there.

    Scorpion
    - The end scene when they are all together picking up Ralph

  3. Cheers Justyna!

Awesome episode of Doctor Who this week, I could have nominated quite a few of the scenes easily from that.

  5. This is the first time in a LONG time that I've had real difficulty picking scenes. Could've easily gone with the Gotham, Homeland, NCIS, NCIS LA, the other POI scene or any of The Flash scenes that were mentioned.

Also: NCIS LA - "You my dog" scene, Forever - Lucas admits to doing an illegal biopsy on Gloria's liver, H50 - Danny finds the money his brother hid.

What a great week of TV it was!

  6. Arrow- Sara's death and Olicity Kiss. I'm still upset about Sara's death. I'm never going to get over it easily, probably never during the series run. I will be so hurt by Quentin's reaction, i too loved their scenes together. They were just really wrong to kill her in the premiere. They didn't even have to kill her, they ould've just wrote her off. (tell you who they should've killed.) And she could've returned in, idk season 6 or something. Laurel still would've gotten her little storyline, and Sara could've came to visit, and idk, they could go off and kick ass together or something. Everyone would've been happy. (rolls eyes). Or they could've stuck Laurel on an island, for like 3 seasons, let her get training, and Sara could've taken over til her return. W/e i'm just pissed. And SIN! omg! Poor Sin!! I'm going to feel soooo bad for her. WTH is she going to do now?? I loved them together, and was really looking forward to them reuniting once Sara returned, sigh. I also wanted to see how Sara tracked her down at the request of Sin's father, and how they first met, etc, and WHY Sin trust her so much, there was SO MUCH that could've been done with Sara. I also wanted to see more of her relationship with Nyssa. Damn i can't wait til Nyssa comes back. I NEVER thought Sara was going to die last season, I kept a level head, and i was relieved to be right. Did i think she was going to die this season? I didn't give it much thought, but i sure as hell didn't expect it to happen in the premiere. Man, FU writers, i'm getting pissed all over again. let me move on, but before i do. R.I.P. Sara Lance, you will be truly missed by all the fans that cared for you.

Olicity Kiss---i've been waiting 3 yrs, so all was right in the world. lol....As well as all things Olicity in that episode. (Yet the date scene was my fav)

Sleepy Hollow- Also enjoyed Ichabod watching Glee, Ichabod getting his ID, and Ichabod confessing to the priest. lol now Abbie since he had ID (a fake one, but still) get this man a beer, lol he needs it.

TVD-- wth, i'll also vote for Elena admitted Katherine was right, only b/c i'd never thought i'd see the day. And i did laugh at that scene. Also loved when Caroline called Stefan a Dick, and how Enzo reacted once he saw Caroline crying. And i don't even like Enzo more than half the time, but i liked that scene. Don't think he should've cracked his neck though, i wanted him and Caroline to talk it out. hahahaha But that's just the shipper in me. And it wasn't a good time for Stefan in that moment anyway.

The Flash-- the whole eposide. lol but especially the end.

  7. Arrow - Sara's death.

This is such a pivotal moment for the show because it affects all the characters in many different ways. My worst nightmare came true but I knew it had to happen. The repercussions from this are going to be so heartbreaking but I can't wait to see Oliver get revenge by looking for the killer. Goodbye Sara :(

Agents of SHIELD - Fitz confronts Ward.

That scene gave me so many chills down my spine, it was insane. Once again, I praise Iain de Caestecker's acting so damn much. He was freaking phenomenal. And Ward deserved ever drop of pain he got so he can see how much he broke Fitz.

The Flash - Barry visits his father in prison.

This scene was so damn emotional, it almost made me cry. Just Barry saying that he will get his father out of prison and will find his mother's killer was pretty amazing and made me smile so much. Fantastic acting by Grant Gustin and John Wesley Shipp!

  13. Boardwalk Empire - The Eli/Nelson awkward family time scene. Funny then just plain sad.

Agents of SHIELD - Fitz confronting Ward, Iain was so good in that scene

Brooklyn Nine Nine - All the scenes where Terry was 'high' I laughed so much.

OUAT - Henry going to Regina in the end of the episode was the best ouat scene for me.
Arrow - already voted for the kiss scene, but their date, all that Oliver said to her was also and amazing scene.

  16. To be honest the only really noteworthy scene in OUAT were the Snow Queen's first scene and the Regina and Henry scene.
