-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 10/13/13:
CBS: +10, ABC: + 6, NBC: -13, Fox: -25

———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights, of course, are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence.

-Winners:
“Sunday Night Football” (NBC), “The OT” (Fox), “Once Upon a Time” (ABC), “The Simpsons” (Fox)

-Solid (and Older) Attraction in Total Viewers:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “Madam Secretary” (CBS), “The Good Wife” (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Mulaney” (Fox)

———-

-Note: The fifth season-premiere of “The Walking Dead” on AMC aired at 9 p.m. ET.

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
The New York Giants at the Philadelphia Eagles on “Sunday Night Football” led NBC to another Sunday overnight victory, with an estimated 11.3 rating/18 share in households from 8:30-11:30 p.m. ET (peaking in the 9 p.m. half-hour at a 12.9/19). Comparably, this was five percent below the 12.8/20 for the Cincinnati Bengals at the New England Patriots one week earlier, which translated into 19.39 million viewers and an 7.4 rating/21 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data

Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 1.4/ 2 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 3.3/ 5 at 7:30 p.m. (#4) and an 8.2/13 at 8 p.m. (#2). As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Fox also received a boost care of football with a primetime overrun at an estimated 18.1/30 in the overnights in the 7 p.m. half-hour and a 15.1/25 into whatever potion it aired from 7:30-8 p.m. Post-game “The OT” scored a 9.9/16 in the 7:30 p.m. half-hour. The remainder of Fox’s line-up was also approximate due to football bleeding into primetime.

Next on Fox was granddaddy “The Simpsons” at a 4.7/ 7 (#3) at 8 p.m., which was 62 percent above the 2.9/ 4 one week earlier, followed by relocated “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at a 2.9/ 4 at 8:30 p.m. (#4). Comparably, overnight retention for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” out of “The Simpsons” was 62 percent. Had “Brooklyn Nine” still been on Tuesday, the early season ratings would, no doubt, have been considerably lower.

Next on Fox into an encore of “Family Guy” at a 2.3/ 3 (#4) at 9 p.m., which did not benefit week two of lead-out sitcom “Mulaney,” which slipped to a 1.5/ 2. Comparably, “Mulaney” decreased by 12 percent from its already anemic 1.7/ 3 from one week earlier (which translated into just 2.30 million viewers and a 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.

Over at CBS, the Sunday night overnights remained positive care of “60 Minutes” (#2: 7.8/13), episode four of “Madam Secretary” (#1: 8.3/12), which was 46 percent above year-ago occupant “The Amazing Race” (5.7/ 9 on 10/13/13), critically acclaimed “The Good Wife” (#2: 7.7/11) and relocated “CSI” (#2: 5.9/10). Thanks to lead-in “Madam Secretary,” “The Good Wife” year-to-year increased by 22 percent (versus the 6.3/10 on 10/13/13). But the 50+ crowd heavily drives the skew of CBS on this evening, which — foolishly — is the audience that the broadcasters and the advertisers balk at.

In season-premiere news, season 25 of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” featuring host Tom Bergeron in his final season, opened with a distant third-place 3.1/ 5 from 7-8 p.m. Comparably, that was seven percent above the 2.9/ 5 on the year-ago evening. Next was “Once Upon a Time” at a 4.6/ 7 at 8 p.m. (#4), which remains an adult 18-49 favorite, followed by sophomore “Resurrection” (#3: 3.6/ 5) and relocated “Revenge” (#3: 3.7/ 6), which built by 61 percent from failed drama “Betrayal” on the year-ago evening (2.3/ 4 on 10/13/13). Once week earlier, a 4.8/ 7 for “Once Upon a Time” in the overnights translated into a 3.3/ 9 among adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data).

ABC found its spot on Sundays!!! Congratulations!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  2. That should be at least 3.0 for Once Upon A Time, right?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Looks like revenge is up the hh last week was a 3.4 and now this week it's a 3.7

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think quite a few people are more interested in TWD's premiere ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 14:41

Looks like OUAT didn't drop below 3.0 (hopefully).

That was the best episode of the season so far as well, even one of the best of the show. The episodes just get better each week and I'm loving it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. I hope Madam Secretary really inched upwards in the demo. I am surprisingly loving that show.

As for ABC, I would guess that OUAT manages to cross the 3s again. Hopefully Revenge didn't fall any further. And though HH could always be very misleading, Resurrection looks a tad ugly

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hope it translates into an increase in the demo.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Crossing my fingers that revenge didn't drop any further

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's very hard to know right now since we don't even know the demo it got last week. I really dislike this mess that ABC ratings have turned out to be.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm hoping Madam Secretary is either steady from last week or even rose a bit in the demo. Crossing my fingers for a full season order.

    ReplyDelete
  11. me too, its annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That is the real ratings story of the day. Will TWD continue massive premier spike like last year? Even if no gain - still massive.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Banged by Corey Stoll13 October 2014 at 14:44

    Yes. Still above a 3.0.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That show is probably my biggest surprise of the season. I am really enjoying it. I was meh on it during pre-season and the pilot was just ok for me but I decided to give a try to the subsequent episodes over the weekend and was very pleased. Miles better than the pilot. I really hope we get that full season.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Absolutely! Subsequent episodes have been way better than the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Revenge is up in HH from last week! That's really good! Last night episode was a real improvement over last week and built some solid fundation for the season, so I'm really happy it did better. Here's hoping it hit a 1.5 or better!

    ReplyDelete
  17. As per the article. If we get them they will be posted there.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Crossing my fingers although hh could be misleading

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, Resurrection is lower in HH but should have a decent demographic thanks to its OUAT lead in. We'll have to see what it translates into

    ReplyDelete
  20. Probably, high 2s at the very least and that's still outstanding

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think Resurrection looks kind of ugly. But because I still don't really know its ratings for last week (as for Revenge by the way), it's really hard to make a guess.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Last week revenge got a 3.4 and ended up translating into a 1.3. It's not in the losers section so must be above a 1.2 at least

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow, Once is low.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Pretty low demo for once

    ReplyDelete
  25. Looks like revenge is up but ouch for ressurection

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll be very happy if Madam Secretary retains that number and I hope CBS is too. The Good Wife seems pretty high based on Top 25, but I guess it will go down in finals.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not demo, HH. For all we know OUAT didn't bring that much overall audience, but it skewed young. Last week it got a 4.8 in HH and now it got a 4.6, so chances are it still keeps the demo over 3s (and the 18-34 demos on the mid-high 2s like last week, and that's probably the most important demo)

    ReplyDelete
  28. It got a 2.6 in the top 25 markets in the demo, which does look low but im not gonna read much into that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I know, it looks pretty bad! 3.6 is around 5-6 million, which is falling a lot.
We only know that Resurrection did a 2.2 for its premiere, so we can't really know how it is tracking without week 2, but it looks really, really ugly

    ReplyDelete
  30. Resurrection is just living off OUAT lead-in at this point. It use to bring its own audience but now its failed to do so this season.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm not surprised that show is boring

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, it may increase to 2.8 (which would still be outstanding), but that's an unexpectedly rapid fall from the 3s it was getting. Maybe last week it fot high 2s, after all we don't know the real ratings, so we'll have to wait and see, but it does look oddly low

    ReplyDelete
  33. It did fall 0.3 in top25 markets. Not sure how that will translate in finals but usually they are correlated so it is probably down from last week. Of course we still don't know how much it really got last week so this whole guessing exercise is even more complicated than usual. Revenge does appear to be up though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't know if boring it's the word: it's slow, really, really slow paced, but I have never been bored while watching it

    ReplyDelete
  35. the Nielsen error only affected the finals. OUAT got a 3.1 preliminary rating which is right. It either got a 3.1 in the finals or adjusted up to a 3.2. Should find out this week.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree. I would feel better with higher numbers but I wouldn't dislike this 1.6 especially since it would look MUCH better than last week's 1.6 when it got to lead out of 60 Minutes' inflated 2.5

    ReplyDelete
  37. Exactly, really slow. I quit watching during the 1x04 episode.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Both it and TGW draw a wealthy (and presumably educated) audience, As long as its demo isn't terrible, my guess is that it will be fine for that reason. And if its demo is what other shows on CBS are seeing, it'll be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Early 25 markets shows us that Revenge is steady so far.
Ouch for Resurrection! It may get up, but that's gotta hurt!
If Revenge keeps it steady and Resurrection keeps falling, do you think ABC will switch them? Or will ABC keep Revenge at 10 and wait for American Crime to premiere while cancelling Resurrection?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't dislike the show but I am still having trouble watching it. I find it too slow. I can do slow and some episodes on other shows that were hated due to being too slow were some of my favorites. I can also do really slow burning shows like The Killing so I am not really sure what the problem is with Resurrection for me but it just feels too much, like they take the whole "slow paced" to a whole other level. I feel like it definitely doesn't fit with OUAT and Revenge's fast paced storytelling.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The later. I sincerely doubt Revenge gets to air at 9pm again (unless for some special 2 hour episodes or something)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Their not going to cancel ressurection that fast unless it falls below a 1.0

    ReplyDelete
  43. 2.6 for OUAT? Oh, no!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, that's probably right. Besides, it's better if it doesn't face The Walking Dead- the show may skew male, but it does have a large female audience as well-, and Revenge is holding the fort at 10PM, so... that's probably going to be the case

    ReplyDelete
  45. I've never actually seen numbers showing that though. Modern Family is probably the only show for which they regularly release high-income audience numbers and talk about its boost. The Good Wife and Madam Secretary? I've never seen it past speculation in comment threads.

Not saying that it isn't true, just that, as far as I know, there is no actual proof to back these claims.

    ReplyDelete
  46. They are going to if it falls below 75% of the scripted avarage, which is like a 1.6 or something like that. It's essentially a freshman show since it only aired 8 episodes on midseason, so I doubt ABC will keep it if the demos go to low 1s

    ReplyDelete
  47. Looks like resurrection is just relying on ouat for an audience.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah, even though OUAT and Revenge are incredibly different shows their storytelling style share that in common- which is why I think Revenge always had decent to good retentation of OUAT's audience-, while Resurrection is in a whole other level.

Actually, I don't know if there is a show that can be paired with Resurrection on ABC... maybe it would do good on Wednesdays after the comedies offered as something relaxing and interesting, something smooth as oposed to its competition on the timeslot. It's the only timeslot I can think for Resurrection where it can truly fit, otherwise I got nothing

    ReplyDelete
  49. And even then it's failing completely; Revenge used to have decent to good retention. The last time Revenge aired out of OUAT it got a 78% retention, which is pretty good. Resurrection used to outgrow OUAT, but now that the novelty is off, it seems like the retention is 60% or lower, so it's just waisting a perfectly good lead in, which could be used for a new show or at least to propell Revenge up.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hoping Once still did well..

    ReplyDelete
  51. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 15:23

That's just the top 25, the actual rating will likely change (hopefully higher)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree if it keeps up ratings like low to mid ones then I think that abc will decide its fate based on how other freshman shows do. I'm with you this time slot deserves a better show to air in it. By now resurrection should have its own sort of audience, rather then relying on ouat for an audience.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love Sunday night ratings because the only two things I care about on Sunday's this time of year is football and The Walking Dead. So I'm able to learn a lot about ratings without being emotionally invested in any programs affected.
That said, I don't understand why a 2.6 is bad for OuAT. Wouldn't that make it the forth highest drama on the network?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I guess CBS did good last night !

    ReplyDelete
  55. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 15:29

That's still good for OUAT but the drop is a bit worrying.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks! I had missed that. I would note though that those are 18+ figures, so they are closer to total viewers (in which TGW and MS already do well) than to 18-49 demos, but still, its something.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ABC's standards are much higher than that/ Resurrection is not even close to syndication. More like a 1.5

    ReplyDelete
  58. Fast Nationals...

    Once 2.6/2.6
    Res 1.6/1.3
    Revenge 1.2/1.1

    ReplyDelete
  59. yay for Once! Please keep it like that!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wow, Once is lower, much lower, than I thought it would be.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Could've been worse for Revenge, but I don't like those numbers.
    Ouch Resurrection! That's gotta sting!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Once is worth watching!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 16:09

Thanks for these. OUAT dropped a hell of a lot more than I thought it would. It's still a good rating but a drop like that is worrying.

    ReplyDelete
  64. All three are lower than I expected. I thought OUAT would hold on to the 3s for a bit longer. Last night's episode was awesome, hopefully it picks up a bit again next week. Resurection is in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  65. lower? It's still high to me. Going good.

    ReplyDelete
  66. where did you get these?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yes you are right now I see... Still hope for s5

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ouch, ABC dropped a lot from last week.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well we don't really know how they did last week yet.

    ReplyDelete
  70. From the Ratings fairy.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It's 100% a sure thing. No doubt at all.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Mulaney rose?!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Right, but I doubt they would drop that much in the restated ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Weren't we supposed to get the restated ratings for the first two weeks of the fall season today?

    ReplyDelete
  75. That's not horrible for Madam Secretary assuming it doesn't adjust down. 60 Mintes was lower since there were no sports on last night so I think this is acceptable. Hope it gets that back 9

    ReplyDelete
  76. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 16:16

We know the prelims were correct which means the prelim numbers for OUAT have been 3.3/3.1/2.6, hopefully it goes back up next week because that was a really great episode.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think they sent them directly to the networks.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Why such big drop for ouat

    ReplyDelete
  79. Banged by Corey Stoll13 October 2014 at 16:17

    LOL ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yikes, TWD hit Resurrection hard!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yep. It got a 1.1 compared to last week's 1.0.

    ReplyDelete
  82. It utterly destroyed it!

    ReplyDelete
  83. We've already posted a number of the fixed ratings in stvplus.com

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah, but it followed a Family Guy repeat, so I expected to drop even farther

    ReplyDelete
  85. But Mulaney's lead in was lower this week.

    ReplyDelete
  86. series low for resurrection

    ReplyDelete
  87. Resurrection may not see a 3rd season. If the ratings falls next week too it's done for

    ReplyDelete
  88. Family Guy rerun only got 1.5 compared to 1.9 last week tho

yall know what that means right...

    ...

    ..

    MULANEY IS A HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Resurrection is definitely in a lot of danger now.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ouch. Huge drop for Once! Why?Great episode.I though the Frozen arc would keep Viewrs linger.I didn't expect it this low til spring.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm calling it. It's dead.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The Simpson/Brooklyn Nine-Nine combo outrated OUAT by a mere tenth, scoring a 2.7 for the hour.

    ReplyDelete
  93. whats taking so long for revenges ratings to show up?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 16:25

It'll get an S5 alright, it has a pretty loyal audience, since it took a dive in S2 it stayed pretty much at the same level, then went up slightly in 3B, hopefully S4 levels off slightly higher than S3 with all the new viewers it got.

    ReplyDelete
  95. abc needs to move it out of that timeslot its killing the show. they should swap revenge and nashville

    ReplyDelete
  96. Ouch for OUAT. It has only aired three episodes and it's already in the high 2's. It's still great ratings but I was hoping it could still stay in the 3.0 range for another week or so :(

    ReplyDelete
  97. Probably; we have to see how TWD did, but at least last year Revenge held up with a weaker OUAT lead in, so it's looking really, really bleak for Resurrection.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Shame but that's around where it was last season before the Frozen bump.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Resurrection halves are awful! A 1.3?! It's probably dead

    ReplyDelete
  100. im not saying that its going to get the best ratings if they move it. but at least it will be in a higher viewed timeslot which should help it a little

    ReplyDelete
  101. didn't mean to get you mad sorry and ok I will shut up and stop posting about ratings or s5. Glad thou.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think it's more likely they switch Resurrection and Revenge, and even I don't see that happening.
ABC will probably let Resurrection rolls until it dies, wait for American Crime to premiere and hope for a miracle

    ReplyDelete
  103. It's worth a shot, unless they have given up hope on it already and just haven't said so... Nashville can be wherever though because its 100% getting renewed thanks to syndication

    ReplyDelete
  104. Fionn (was Teen Wolfers)13 October 2014 at 16:41

Lol I'm not mad at all, sorry if I came across that way

    ReplyDelete
  105. Not suprised by revenge ratings. I know a lot of people who stoped waching it. I used to to be crazy about it in s1, couldn't wait for next episode to air. Now, I watch it when I have time. Its just not the same show :-(

    ReplyDelete
  106. 18-34 ratings:
    ABC:
    OUAT: 2.5
    Resurrection: 1.2
    Revenge: 0.7

    CBS:
    Madam Secretary: 0.7
    The Good Wife: 0.7
    CSI: 0.8

    FOX:
    The OT: 5.0
    Simpsons: 3.0
    B99: 2.0
    Family Guy (R): 1.6
    Mulaney: 0.9

    NBC:
    NFL Football (8-11PM): 5.0

    ReplyDelete
  107. i doubt it. but lets just see how it did last week and how TWD did, which has been hitting new ratings records for the past couple of seasons. if resurrection was higher last week and TWD got like a series high then its probably the TWD thats impacting revenges lead in.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Once again Berman doesn't proof read. B99 was on at 8:30 not Utopia and Mulaney was on at 9:30 not a Family Guy repeat

    ReplyDelete
  109. Ouch for ABC.

    ReplyDelete
  110. as sad as i am about revenges ratings i can't say that I'm surprised

    ReplyDelete
  111. Thats REALLY young skewing for OUAT.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yep, OUAT is skewing incredinly young. Even if its 18-49 adults are down overall, it's still gaining a lot in the younger demos. Older viewers are tunning out, but younger ones are watching. Last week it got a 2.8 in 18-34

    ReplyDelete
  113. Walking Dead took a bite out of everything including football. I'm hoping the ratings for the premier were HUGE.

    ReplyDelete
  114. The football game was a huge blowout.

    ReplyDelete
  115. True, but the top25 number is still low for a Sunday Night Game.

    ReplyDelete
  116. the way that their writing it is probably aimed at the younger generation. probably more kids and teens watch then adults

    ReplyDelete
  117. damn TWD killed Resurrection and Resurrection killed Revenge

    ReplyDelete
  118. OUAT's still n#1 scripted drama of the night but don't like that drop

  119. Resurrection? Sure
Revenge? Eh, it's about the same as it did in premiere week (1.3)

  120. It still has SO much room to fall. Besides, it was bound to even off from that very high premiere. This number is still better than anything it did for the entire Season 3. I thought it would have premiered to around this number, so for it to be here in episode 3 is fantastic. It will comfortably finish the week (and the season) in ABC's top3 or 4 dramas, the only show outside of TGIT managing to do so, and its 18-34 demo are extremely good as well.

It has nothing to do worry about ;)

  123. Well it's lower than its premiere and I'm sure if it had OUAT as lead-in it could've stayed at 1.3 or even get more than that.

  124. Revenge is at the same time as CSI or did I miss something?

  128. These can't be right. Madam Secretary had 1.0 and 1.5 in half-hours, and yet it has a 1.5 overall.

  129. Expext a Fox press release saying it was one of the rare series to see a post-premiere rise.

  130. Resurrection was definitely impacted by TWD airing. I wonder if OUAT's amazing first 2 episode ratings were not just due to the Frozen introduction but also Nielsen's mistake in ratings? It seems to have dropped a lot of viewers from the last episode.

  131. It does have a lot of fairytale stuff, even if it's darker, many adults who don't try it out probably assume it's more for youth.

  132. No it's a 2.6 and they said the ratings for 3B might've been inflated as well. :)
