  4. I have never liked Ellis... On that note this was one of the best episodes this season... In The series. Whoever Directed and Wrote this episode needs a pay raise plus a bonus. ASAP!

  5. I liked Sarah Paulson as young Ellis, maybe she was too busy with AHS to do the episode but owned the character and I wish we got to see another glimpse of that, i don't like Derek like this he is acting like a dick and i so want Meredith to do something amazing and have him feel that sting of jealousy that richard was talking about because he deserves it acting this way towards his wife and Amelia

  6. This episode was for the hardcore fans. The ones who re-watched seasons 1-3 to see if Ellis said anything about having another kid after the season 10 finale. Loved that it all came down to a decision Richard made that set all this in motion. Love that that jealousy is what Meredith and Derek are in the midst of right now. Loved how 'The Grey Method' was referred to in SEASON ONE EPISODE ONE! Just goes to show how long this secret was kept. Love Ellis' journals and would do anything to read them. Love that Maggie and Meredith are bonding. Loved Derek's dreamy response to hearing the news. Kinda makes it hard to hate him.

  7. woow i absolutely loved this episode. It was very well written. Loved the scene where Meredith and Ellis pull the Grey method.
Now Maggie needs to talk to Richard.
At least Mer and Arizona were honest to Alex about the votes. I've never been a fan of her, but why are they cutting out April from the episodes like that?

  8. Sarah Drew is pregnant, so it's not unlikely are going to be seeing less of her overall, for a while at least.

  9. I didn't dislike this new actress; I would have liked to have seen more of that fire that Paulson brought, but subdued kinda worked with the circumstances.

  10. This is what a show should be after a decade, still gripping and emotionally honest, remembering its history. Such an amazing episode, and even though Paulson was amazing as young Ellis, Sally Pressman gave an interesting take with a more contained Ellis weighed down by the big decision of running away with Richard. I really expected to just hate whomever was replacing Paulson, but Pressman gave her own take, and let the plot carry the rest, that was good.

  11. In previous seasons the younger version of Ellis was portrayed by the actress Sarah Paulsen who is currently starring in American Horror Story. In this episode young Ellis is played by the actress Sally Pressman who starred in Army Wives.

I think both actresses show different emotions to the character of young Ellis

  15. I only read comments after I post a review, which I've just done, and I must say, reading yours now I think you did a better job summing up the episode. Wholeheartedly agree :)

  16. I say this every week but this season has been really incredible so far. This is an episode I will add to my list of favorites. By far the most consistent season since S8 (as far as turning out a great episode week after week). I think I lost respect for Richard this episode though after learning his real intentions behind staying with Adele. I do feel sorry that he was never able to be a father to Maggie but it's kind of karma. I think they are doing a great job with conveying the underlying theme of being mindful of the choices you make in life and dealing with the consequences of those decision. I think that there were a lot of full circle moments with all the flashbacks and realizations of the episode. I think this episode just shows why we stick around after 11 seasons. THIS SHOW IS AMAZING! OAN: I was looking on the Grey's FB page and saw that some ppl were saying Maggie's character didn't make sense and that she should have been in the S8 if/then episode. The if/then episode was told from Meredith's perspective so it makes perfect sense that there was never any mention of her until now as Meredith never knew abt her or didn't remember her mother being pregnant until recently. Now that they have made a lot of connections with that storyline, I really hope they start focusing on the Japril storyline as April was very noticeably missing from this episode and has had all of 3 minutes of screen time this season.

  17. Totally agree with you on the Ellis part. Great surgeon, horrible person. Overall the episode was one of the best they've done in years. And the last 30 seconds of the episode really hit hard, because its where the very first signs of Ellis's Alzheimer's appear. So subtly done but so effective.
