ABC Gives Additional Script Orders to Forever, Selfie and Manhattan Love Story

Thanks to Dahne for the heads up.
ABC has picked up three scripts each of freshman series Selfie, Manhattan Love Story and Forever. The network has now given some sort of orders to all of its new series after hot drama How To Get Away With Murder and comedy Black-ish received full-season pickups last week.

Additional script orders (usually three) are used by the broadcast networks for freshman series they feel have shown some promise but have not yet proven their case for a full-fledged episodic order. Commissioning extra scripts keeps writers on the shows working, buying the network brass extra couple of weeks to evaluate the series’ performance before having to make a decision on a back episodic order.

Selfie and Manhattan Love Story have been soft, most recently drawing a 1.0 and 0.9 Live+same day ratings in adults 18-49, respectively, last night. But that is in line with expectations as the two comedies were tasked with being self-starters at 8 PM with no support and no stars. Supernatural procedural Forever got off to a promising start but slipped to an 1.1 last night

  1. Really good news for Forever which is one of my most favorite new fall shows!

Suprised about Selfie and Manhattan Love Story, I'm mostly happy for the possibility of more Karen Gillan and John Cho :)

  3. Yay! Forever!

  4. That doesn't necessarily means a good thing. If the scripts are ordered an the episodes are not, why the early joy? The new comedies are terrible. Black-ish seems the only one who's sticking around for some time.

  5. Is this the year ABC accepts its fate on Tuesday nights? Keeping these shows around a bit longer couldn't hurt too much, and Forever seems destined to be a cult show, and if they give it a chance maybe it could grow and become a utility player like Castle. It's fun enough.

Selfie is charming and I'd like to see it last the whole season, at least. MHL...meh, who cares one way or another.

  6. `If this were The CW, I'd say this meant something. But with ABC, this means absolutely nothing, especially for ratings challenged MLS.

Forever can get a few more episodes until a midseason show is ready to take over.

    You're only delaying the inevitable.

  11. Translation: 3 additional scripts mean there are no plans for a full season renewal, (im not even mentioning the prospects of the 2nd season). They did the same thing for Last Resort last season just before it got axed.

  15. I'm glad that Forever has gotten more episodes but I'm really surprised about the comedies, especially Selfie. I loved Karen Gillan on Doctor Who but her fake U.S. accent is horrible. It sounds like she's talking with a potato in her mouth.

  16. Forever hasn't got new episodes, just scripts for episodes which will not necessarily be produced.

  17. Happy for forever as I am really enjoying that show. Manhattan love story I prefer to selfie and A-Z on the other night but not bothered either way:)

  18. Happy about Forever, I was pleasantly surprised by this show. Selfie is also growing on me, in the 'I watch it because I hate myself' way.

  19. so excited for Forever love the show!

  20. While it means all three are likely cancelled, I do like that they have additional time to wrap up their storylines. Of the 3, I will really miss Forever. Henry and Abe's relationship is one of the best things on TV this season.

I really enjoy Forever, it's one of my fav new shows. Sad to see the low ratings :/
Could the fact the new episodes are aired the day before on monday in Canada have to do with it? Do people that like the show just stream it the day before or watch a download?

  22. I Think Selfie Is A Great Show!

  23. I know an order for scripts doesn't mean the episodes will ever get made. This just makes it feel like ABC is pouring salt on the wound before they stomp on my heart by canceling Forever.
