ReplyDeleteI hate that shows doesn't do real opening sequences anymore. I always loved Charmed and The OC. Buffy's theme song/instrumental was great as well.

ReplyDelete- HBO does great opening sequences almost all the time. True Blood and Game of Thrones were always awesome and so were their theme songs. I actually do not like The Leftovers opening sequence that much to be honest though.
- How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Suburgatory and Community are all comedies with great opening sequences that would always stick in my mind afterwards and leave me in a good mood to watch the episode
- Fringe, Once Upon a Time and Cougar Town always play with the opening sequence which I always enjoy. Cougar Town is particularly fine with the message written on the logo every single episode since I think Season 2
- The very simply yet powerful Lost opening sequence would always stick and be very effective. Nowadays, Revenge is probably the closet thing to it.
- The OC has one of my favorite theme songs ever as opening sequence and I always felt like the opening sequence was a true an essential part of the show, definitely one of my favorites. Prison Break was actually a good one from that time, very suspenseful like the show itself
- Showtime has different and not bad opening sequences (Dexter, Homeland, Masters of Sex) but I find them a bit too long and I prefer the ones from HBO most of the time. From the three, Homeland probably has my favorite one.

ReplyDeleteFringe ever changing opening sequence is great just because of that, as I watched it weekly it surprised me with how many variations it had depending on the universe/timeline.
Some other honorable mentions: Boardwalk Empire, True Detective and Chuck. I thought of Homeland, but I got surprisingly bored of it by season 2

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on Finding Carter. Looked up the song though and it's not as good as a whole so they've done a really good job with that part for the opening. Wish the show was a little bit better though :/

ReplyDeleteFringe, Elementary, Charmed, NCIS (the (nostalgia of a distant time when, sitting on my couch i was whistling (badly) the air at the same time it was airing). Orphan Black, Believe, Doctor Who, Rizzoli and Isles, Alias, X-Files, and all the one I forgot.
I think sometimes long openings are really, really frustating, Generally I like when they are short better.
Current: Penny Dreadful, True Detective, Rectify, Hannibal and Elementary.

ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones, both the music and graphics are superb which make it one of the very few shows I watch every opening credits for. The Musketeers, most of the Doctor Who ones, Elementary and Sons of Anarchy.

I can't get enough of the TEEN WOLF opening. It really is one of the best i've seen and i never skip it. The music is good, the effects are amazing and I love how they change the color tone every season.

ReplyDeletePerson Of Interest's title sequence is great. I loved the look of the one for season 2, and I love that it's altered sometimes like you said. The way it's designed makes it feel like part of the show - the voice would be distorted or the images would cut off or rewind whenever something's up with the Machine. They actually used the season 1 intro when they did the flashback episode in season, and of course that one was rewinded at just the right moment as well ("But I needed a partner")!

ReplyDeleteI can't see the poll no matter how many times I refresh the page, so I'm guessing there's another temporary glitch in the site. I'll just say that my favorite opening sequence is to CSI (Las Vegas). I can't look at those opening credits and hear the song "Who are You" without getting excited about the episode to come. Adding to the greatness are the smart comments that come right before the opening sequence.

There are dozens that I really enjoy (Fringe, Damages, Six Feet Under, Supernatural's changing title cards, Carnivale, the long-cancelled Rubicon, Mad Men, even the simple opening of the good wife) etc. Also, When I read/hear people say Game of Thrones' intro is too long I immediately dismiss it, I absolutely adore every second of that intro...
ReplyDeleteI think though I might have a new all-time favorite in the True Detective opening credits. I loved the show's dark obsession with existence and the mythological dirge seeped into the credits in an incredible way. One of my very favorite shows, Hannibal has an interesting opening but I find it too abstract to be visually effective, and I really wish that it had opening credits similar to TD, because I find that show is befitting something that visually stunning to match the show itself.

I like Game of Thrones, Person of Interest, Bones, CSI: Vegas, Buffy and Angel openers best recently. I used to love Star Trek, and the westerns too, like the Virginian, Rawhide and Wagon Train (now that REALLY dates me!). Oh, and the Fugitive, Perry Mason, Laugh-in, Get Smart, and some of the other old spy series. There have been some great openers through the years!

During season 1 always envisioned a title sequence that played with Fusco being watched by Reese... Being watched by Carter... Being watched by Finch, being watched by the Machine. Hey, maybe for season 4! ;)

ReplyDeleteZero Day's is AWESOME. I replayed it four times before I watched the actual episode. :p I suppose that's a sign for a great title sequence!

ReplyDeleteYes, I had been alerted to that fact on another review that tried to suggest that it had only been introduced in 3.20 (where it was spotted) - but yes, they had it throughout the entire season. Obvious foreshadowing.
