True Detective - Season 2 - Actress Shortlist + POLL

18 Sept 2014

Thanks to buffnfaith for the heads up

Nic Pizzolatto and HBO executives are holding another round of auditions as Season 2's start date nears

Time may be a flat circle, as Matthew McConaughey mused in “True Detective,” but HBO and writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto need to get moving on casting the female lead for the second season.

To that end, TheWrap has obtained the list of seven actresses who have been invited back to read this week for the coveted role. HBO had no comment regarding the shortlist.

You can vote in the poll below as to which of the shortlisted actresses you'd like to see star in True Detective season 2. You can choose up to 2 options.

30 comments:

  1. Rachel McAdams. Jessica Biel can't act and Malin Akerman can't do drama only comedy.

  2. Rachel McAdams & Elizabeth Moss

  3. I would love to see Rachel McAdams :)

  4. Would love to see Malin do a serious thing! This summer I watched Trophy wife and she was quite good. Elisabeth Moss would be a good choice as well.
For me Rachel is overrated, really not a fan of her. Either way the producers know what they want for the role.

  5. Rosario Dawson and Brit Marling. They are looking for a no nonsense sheriff. They both to me would be able to convey that and be believable.

  6. Elizabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams

Surely Rosario is busy with Daredevil, unless the filming schedule is different.

  7. Kelly Reilly, Jaimie Alexander, and Brit Marling could all be good if the role is right. The rest of this list should be burned.

  8. Rachel McAdams!!!!!! Elizabeth Moss is great too.

  9. From the list : Jaimie Alexander

    My own pick: Emmanuelle Chriqui

  10. Elizabeth Moss and Brit Marling.

  11. Girls??? Did the presenter of the video refer to the actresses as girls? Seriously, and his editor let him get away with that crap! There was no one on that list under 20. WOMEN!!!!
Anyway, the line-up for the women looks as bland as it does with the guys. Pretty, bland, mainly white princesses. When the weird synopsis came out for season 2 I was really intrigued to see who would be cast and this is it. How are these 20-30something actresses supposed to convey the strength needed for this role? I hope that they are seeing more actresses. Perhaps older.

  12. Rachel McAdams, and Jamie Alexander

  13. Rosario Dawson and Elizabeth Moss are my favorite actresses on this list. Then Rachel McAdams or Oona Chaplin.

  14. I'm actually getting really sick of talking about who is supposedly going to be in True Detective. Can the internet as a whole just forget about the show until we have truly concrete information?

  15. He wasn't calling them girls, he was talking about Zosia Mamet starring in the HBO show "Girls".

  16. Sorry no. Watch the video again, at about 38 seconds in he talks about who has already been seen, who is coming back for a 2nd round of auditions and possibly additional new faces. He says something like 'Talent representatives say that there are 9 or 10 girls coming in and other sources say 4 or 5 girls'. In re-watching the clip he does go on to refer to the actresses as women but he uses the term 'girls' at least twice initially which sound slightly patronising.

Elisabeth Moss. She was incredible in Top of the Lake.

  18. I lean towards Oona Chaplin, Elizabeth Moss, and Kelly Reilly, but I think most of them could do a good job.

So much depends on the role, the other cast members, the script, and the directing so I won't judge until I know more or see the actress on screen!

  19. I'm going for Rachel McAdams. I think this is a just the role she needs to break away from Rom-Com's, comedies and filler movies. She was a natural in The Notebook and I love her as Irene Adler.

  20. One things for sure, for most of those actresses it would be the chance to have a huge breakout role!

  21. Sorry, my bad. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention.

  22. It really would. Everyone needs to break away from their norm from time to time. Some just do it better than others, or choose better platforms to do it.

  23. CTRL-F: Gillian Anderson. 0 hits.
    Not interested.

  24. No worries. On my part it was a nitpick as the choice of actress names has proved to be a disappointment.

  25. Brit Marling would be perfect.

  26. Good thing she's on The Fall.

  27. Your avatar would be a great choice. Anna Torv. <3

  28. Yeah! Too bad she was tied up with Open when the casting for True Detective began.

  29. Rachel McAdams would KILL IT! But IDK who would be a good counterpart for her
