The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2014 - Day 3 - Castle vs. Gilmore Girls & Merlin vs. Veronica Mars

9 Sept 2014

Hey all,

Day two of the competition saw our second seeded show crash out in the first round, as Legend of the Seeker got Blacklisted. That's two from two of eliminated seeded shows so far. Joss Whedon's Angel then knocked out The Big Bang Theory in the second poll of the day.

Today is likely to see the first seeded show progress - though you never know, this competition is often unpredictable - as Castle faces Gilmore Girls. We also have popular British show Merlin taking on Veronica Mars.

Reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for your favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
4) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.

  1. Castle versus Gilmore Girls is just rude and now I'm torn.

  2. I love all four of these shows, but I have to go with Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars. As awesome as Castle and Merlin are, the other two were some of my first TV obsessions, and Veronica Mars is still in my top ten.

  3. Castle and Veronica Mars for me.

  4. I've only seen a couple of scenes from Castle, 2 episodes of Veronica Mars, and nothing from Gilmore Girls. So this easy:

  5. I take no responsibility for this.

  6. LOL. I decided pretty quickly - I'm still forever bitter about Gilmore Girls' final two seasons so I went with Castle. No bitterness there!

  7. Easiest choices so far: Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars.

  8. Castle and Veronica :)

  9. I think Castle is the most overrated show I've ever seen on the internet, particularly on this website, but it still got my vote, even if I have put the show on the pause mode and I am not watching the new season for now. Since I have never watched Gilmore Girls and I have watched every single episode from Castle, it was an easy one.

On the second one, no strong opinion but I've watched a few random Veronica Mars episodes and I always liked what I saw, so I voted for it (I've never watched Merlin).

  10. Only Castle for me today.

  11. I could only vote for Castle today.

Castle is the most overrated show? What about Beauty and the Beast ;) That show's gonna win this competition anyway... But you're right, Castle is very popular on the internet...

  13. Depressing Arrow got kicked out and now Gilmore Girls probably and Merlin. At least Angel made it from my favorites.

  14. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars. My teenage years voting here!

  15. I had forgotten about that one, you are right :P I know these statements are very controversial because to each his own, but well, this is my "own" ahah :P

  16. Castle and Veronica!

  17. Veronica mars and Castle for me today

  18. Nothing for me today, I'm still pleasantly surprised both AoS and Angel won their polls.

  19. This isn't fair towards shows that aren't on air. Think GG would do quite better in their Active period.

  20. Gilmore Girls for me! So sweet and shiny and kind TV show, love it very much!

  21. Only castle for me today.

  22. I know it doesn't stand a chance, but Gilmore Girls without a second thought for the first poll. All the sass going around was so great. Also,I've never watched Castle.
The second poll was much harder.Normally,I would go with Veronica Mars. But since it doesn't seem to need the help and I really liked Merlin as well,it gets my vote.

  23. And thank you SpoilerTV for allowing us all to give our own opinions...now everyone else, please no hate, everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether you believe it is "correct" or not.

I happen to not agree with you omabin, I LOVE Castle (watching a S2 rerun on TNT right now) but that's what makes the world awesome, you like stuff, I like stuff and sometimes it's the same stuff and sometimes it's not. :-)

  24. Just Veronica Mars for me today, as much as I absolutely loved Arthur and Merlin. I've never watched Castle or Gilmore Girls, so I pass. Spoiler TV is going to give me a viewing complex! It seems I have never watched a lot of "fan favs."

  25. Only Castle for me today. Much as I love Gilmore Girls and watch it when I can on ABC Family, I hated what they did to Luke & Lorelai.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My vote goes to Castle,Ryan and Epso.If it wasn't for them i wouldn't be watching.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Veronica Mars since I haven't seen Merlin. Castle vs Gilmore... I've seen all of Gilmore Girls probably twice and I'm on season 6 of Castle. Going with my voting method of which I'd rather see a random episode of... I'm going with Castle. I don't think I've seen any Castle ep twice because i was binge watching.

  28. Voted Castle & Veronica Mars easy choices today!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. The only reason I voted was to vote against Merlin. The series finale was basically a F U to all of the fans. I'll never be able to get back all of the hours I've spent watching that show to get a satisfying ending but hopefully by voting against it in this poll will give me some level of justice.

  30. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars.

I've seen them all but those two were big obsessions of mine :)

  31. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars.
    Both have fantastic dialogue.

  32. Well I stopped watching Castle with all the "Caskett" BS and I never stopped watching Gilmore Girls, so Gilmore Girls takes it. Go sharp witted and tongued ladies. Veronica Mars is still aces in my book and Merlin was utterly forgettable. Phew, easy day.

  33. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars for me. I liked and then dumped both Castle and Gilmore Girls, but I liked GG for longer so it gets my vote. Plus I liked Castle's secondary characters a whole lot more than the two leads. I have only seen 1 episode of Merlin, although it is still on my to-watch later list. I loved the first 2 seasons of Veronica Mars, so it gets my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That's when I stopped watching Castle too. It became way too much and overwhelmed the time for the characters I liked better.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ha! These contests are exactly why I can never make a dent in my to-watch list. For everyone I manage to watch, I find 5 more from STV commentators.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I remember the first time I watched Gilmore Girls. I had to lean in and really listen because I had never heard people talk that fast in my life. At least not in America.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Exactly the same thing I did/thought! Go Gilmorisms! Lorelai never fails to make me laugh with her upstaging of Friday Night dinners. Friday Night's Alright For Fighting was such a classic episode!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I liked Castle for the slightly tongue in cheek attitude that came with knowing it was a TV show, so these aren't real crimes they are stories. It took the show a step away from the traditional will they/won't they procedural with the tough chick detective and her sidekicks. When they went the route of sitcom bumbling coupledom plots I lost interest.

  39. Arthur and Merlin were my British Sam and Dean. I loved them so much. The show wasn't Supernatural by any means but it was charming, it was funny and it made me cry. It also had Giles :) Arthur would make me so angry but then redeem himself. Especially when he grew to love Merlin so much.

  40. I wish I could! I'll be working. Good news is I can watch commercial free as soon as I get in, bad news I have to wait til midnight! Ugh. Look forward to reading your timeline afterwards!

  41. Oh. I didn't realize the no longer running shows were going to be taking on current run shows head to head. I had a few minutes of confusing. :-D

    Castle and Veronica Mars

  42. Castle and VerĂ³nica Mars this time around.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Castle. 29th Sept is way too far away!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Castle and Merlin for me.

Castle was easy as I haven't seen GG and have no intention of watching it...just not my cup of tea which wins even though I gave up on Castle after S5. Merlin vs. Veronica Mars was much tougher. Ultimately I chose Merlin because I named my cat after him (well kinda, Emrys vs. Merlin) so while Veronica is the smart, snarky PI that I love, clearly Merlin made the bigger impact on me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. What's that?
Supernatural is not even in the competition?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't know why they bother with these things, the top three are going to be BatB, The Mentalist and Castle. I used to like the Mentalist but they dragged out the Red John arch way to long and it ruined the show, plus I don't buy Jane and Lisbon as a couple, which of course they are now. I like Castle for the simple fact that the chemistry between the two leads is probably the best on any show on tv, though I do think their is way too much melodrama and they drag things out to long, I understand that's how cable tv works but the season finale of castle was terrible. BatB is not something I would watch, I don't even understand why it wins the competitions because it's not like a lot of people watch it, the ratings are terrible, I was surprised it got renewed.

  47. Sitting out this one, since not really having watched any of these shows.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Castle and Veronica Mars, again liked the others as well. This year seems harder to me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars, Uhu Uhu!

    ReplyDelete
  50. The fast talking on GG is one of my favorite things I have ever seen in a tv show. I thought it was brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yep, the draw that is shown in the post. You can see all the shows in the competition there - including Supernatural @Uschi Zobel - it's in the top right facing Nikita in the first round.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Totally agree.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Mine too. There's good reason why it's known for its dialogue.
