Gillian Anderson will be devouring a bigger piece of Hannibal when the NBC drama returns in early 2015.
TVLine has learned exclusively that the X-Files vet — who recurred in Seasons 1 and 2 as the title character’s shrink, Bedelia du Maurier — has closed a deal to be a series regular in Season 3.

Cannot. Wait.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!
ReplyDeleteHELL YES! More Gillian Anderson is always a plus. I can't believe season 3 is so far away :(
ReplyDeleteI tried to get into Hannibal but couldn't. But wasn't she a regular in that show with Jamie Dornan?
ReplyDeleteYou mean The Fall? She still is! I'm guessing since this season of The Fall is only six episodes, they have already finished filming so now she's able to comes back to the US for Hannibal.
ReplyDeleteYEAH the Fall. Didn't know it was that short. But your probably right as Hannibal is a 13 episode season as well, so they'll have no bigger scheduling issues.
ReplyDeleteBedelia and Freddie as regulars in S3, I wonder if this means something about Alana's fate. Either way, I'm sure it's Laurence becoming recurring and not a regular that gave them a bit of money to make those two regulars (it's crazy how gorgeous the show is, considering it barely has a budget). Happy to see more Bedelia in S3, she needs to be careful not to end up on the menu.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Glad they found away around her schedule! XD
ReplyDeleteYes!
ReplyDeleteThere's no words big enough to express how much happy i'm right now!
ReplyDeleteFinally we are getting a proper leading lady played by a fabulous actress, incredibly talented and which is a big female star, which can't hurt either.
Best news since the start of the show!
Great news!!
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell they were hoping to have her as a regular last season, but her schedule did not allow it, granted she also was doing Crisis and a couple of small projects (Robot Chicken Episode, a film), but luckily for us, she seems to have been able to work around it this year! -It was important to me that she would have more screen time at the same time they introduce Lady Murasaki, as both characters are named for famous female writers, and thus Fuller's/Anderson's character should be either in parallel or juxtapose Murasaki some how, which for book readers, is already evident by the relationship Hannibal has with her...
ReplyDeleteYes! This is great news!
ReplyDeleteHELL YEAH!
ReplyDelete*does all the little dances you can think you do demonstrate excitement*
I only wonder if this means she will be dead by the end of the season...
Nothing to be said except *HAPPY DANCE*
ReplyDeleteMan, I really hope this doesn't spell the end for Alana. Jack is recurring so we do know for sure he survives. That leaves Abigail and Alana with the former almost a sure goner. I sincerely hope to see Alana survive and Dhavernas continue on as a regular.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is though is that even if these characters "die" doesn't mean it will be the end of them. I'm pretty sure we're going to start seeing extrapolations of Hannibal's memory palace, in which then the conversations and essences he has with certain characters will live on...
ReplyDeleteHonestly... I'd be ok with Alana dying. I don't hate her character, but she's one of the least developed leading ladies I've ever seen and in S2 they relegated her to a love interest/plot device and if they really can't figure out what to do with her without her being romantically linked to one of the main characters, then maybe it's better off if her character was killed off. I do think there could be an interesting storyline there, with Hannibal's betrayal and her whole world being turned upside down, but that's only if the writers will treat her like an actual character and not a prop. Margot and Abigail (in S1) got a lot more development in less episodes than Alana got in 2 seasons. I rarely advocate getting rid of female characters, but if they really can't figure out what to do with her, they might as well.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news!! I love her character!
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for this news for a long time now!So happy, cannot wait for feb 2015!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Alana is a rather pointless character. All she does is date the main guys, and is usually complaining about something. I'd rather she die than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteJack is an awesome character, and killing Abigail after the reveal that she was alive the whole time wouldn't invoke any emotional response from me other than an eye-roll. I like her and would like to see her develop.
I really like Jack now, which is funny, because I kinda despised him in S1 (not saying Laurence wasn't doing a great job, just that Jack was such a dick to Will).
ReplyDeleteAbigail should have never been brought back from the dead- she went from being an interesting, tragic character in S1 to a plot device in the S2 finale and in my opinion she should stay dead- they know she helped her father, if she lives, she's going to jail. But in my opinion, it was a mistake to resurrect Miriam and Abigail, it made Hannibal look like a supervillain (he had Miriam for 2 years, brainwashed and just waiting to frame Chilton? Yeah, ok) and if they weren't going to invest the proper time in telling us what these women have been through during their time in captivity or even what Abigail's mindset is, then they shouldn't have bothered bringing them back in the first place.
Terrific.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm in!
ReplyDeleteAccording to wikipedia, The Fall series 2 finished production in June.
ReplyDeleteI like her as a female presence on the show, but you're right; they have her dating the "main guys" and well, i won't honor the complaining comment, but she really doesn't have much of her own story.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do old posts keep popping back to the top?
ReplyDeleteIt's about bloody time! Can't wait :-)
ReplyDeletefantastic news
ReplyDeleteJack did get better as he went along. He became a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Abigail. Bringing her back after doing the same exact thing with Miriam was a lot to swallow. But bringing her back just to kill her is a waste. Let her live, explore her mental state, make resurrecting her matter.
So just kill Alana. She doesn't add anything to the show anyway. Honestly, the second season made me dislike her anyway.
Agree. Alana really rubbed me the wrong way in S2. I much rather see Abigail live. I thought all three were goners but when I learnt Chilton was still alive after having been shot through the head(!) I realized anything was possible in Fuller land :)
ReplyDeleteNah, as far as I'm concerned Abigail's storyline is over, I'd love to have flashbacks to what she went through during S2 and explore her mental state that way, but she escaped death too many times and she has no future- if she survives, she's heading to jail and wouldn't have anything to contribute once we head into book canon territory. If anything, I think Miriam could have a future, we could see her recover from what Hannibal did to her and see her dynamic with Will and Jack.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree about Alana not adding anything to the show. She should have never been a love interest- I loved Dr. Bloom's friendship with Will in the book and in S1 she had some potential, but they never treated her like a character in her own right, let alone the female lead- we never saw her really consulting on cases, never saw her at work. Hell, even the episode in S1 with Gideon targeting her wasn't in any way about her or focused on her, which it should have been- it could have given us some good insight into her character. I'm almost never for getting rid of female characters, but with Alana I think the damage is done and if the writers don't know what to do with her, they should just be rid of her and give us Lady Murasaki, Reba and Molly, on top of new regulars Freddie and Bedelia, and Margot, who is recurring.
I'd rather both Abigail and Alana stay dead, Abigail's story has run its course, she escaped death too many times and if she survives, she's heading to jail and wouldn't contribute anything when we get to book canon territory. I do however want to explore what she went through in S2 with flashbacks. Chilton needed to be alive, he's important to RD and Silence, Miriam could have stayed dead, especially with Anna's HBO contract that really limits 'Hannibal' with how they can use her. Too many people escaped death in S2, it was getting ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteBest news this week!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! One can never get enough of Gillian on our screen!
ReplyDeleteOnly know her work from The Fall and Hannibal. Never really watched X-Files.
ReplyDeleteOh...and of course the Springfield Files episode.

Hopefully she will get more of one, but, as book fan and considering her surname, I think it's obvious that she meant to invoke those crazy, intelligent, but interesting Daphne Du Mauier woman (Birds, Rebecca, Jamaica Inn), but also serve as kind of equal to Hannibal, if not one of them is the other's person suit.
ReplyDeleteMost of female characters are important because they represent certian things to Hannibal. Bedelia is a juxtaposition of Lady Murasaki (female writers--close personal relationships about self control in which Hannibal reveals himself) and Mischa, his dead little sister = Abigail, Margot, and the upcoming Clarice Starling --which is also reflected through Marian, Sarah, Georgia, Alana, and potentially a dash of Bedelia as we see her in season 3.
IMO Jack Crawford is so well portrayed here, because he should be a character that is likable and father-like one moment and dispicable and disregarding in another, but I think what really puts the better side of Jack in perspective was the introduction of Kade Purnell
ReplyDeleteAlana in season 2 parallels Clarice Starling at the end of the Hannibal novel, as many of the female characters are really central to Hannibal's psyche, because of what he lost and what he keeps on trying to recreate....
ReplyDeleteNo you are right. SpoilerTv does that sometimes with reviews or popular/big posts so that they get more exposure for those who just go to the site page, as opposed to shows they have bookmarked/used spoiler tv filter for.
ReplyDeleteYep! I still haven't finished S2 but now i have reason since she'll be a regular!
ReplyDeletePut the X-Files on your list, like after catching up with The Blacklist! Its a must see!
ReplyDeleteYAY! We can finally talk about mad Mads over [virtual] dinner together (and of course Bedelia too) XD
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Just as long as we're munching on veggies and fruit!..but of course with a nice Chardonnay! XD
ReplyDeleteFor desert we'll have a choice of twizzlers, ding dongs or Twinkies!
How about Fava Beans and a nice Chianti? ;)
ReplyDelete(I may have to go with coffee yogurt with those twizzlers)
OMG just thinking about a dinner conversation between Walter and Hannibal is...just too funny & scary!
ReplyDelete[In Hannibal's kitchen preparing a meal]
ReplyDeleteWalter: Oh, what is THAT that you're putting in there?!
Hannibal: Something that somebody won't miss. [pause. looks at the silver-goo on his hands and then looks over to Walter mixing batter] What are you putting in there?! The finniest chocolate or coco from India?
Walter: No, much better! I realized how much you loved sea food after that last feast. I have been working night and day in the lab to make what I call "Chocolate Nephrops Cake"! The secret is in the shrimp-yogurt I made by a happy coincidence!
Oh, for sure, Jack on the show is actually (in my opinion) the closest portrayal to book!Jack, especially Red Dragon- boy did I hate his manipulative ass in that book, LOL. My biggest issues with Jack in S1 is that he was aware of what he was doing (pushing Will too hard, imagining Will as the next Miriam and feeling guilty about it) but does it anyway. In season two, Jack actually owned up to his mistakes and that's when I started liking him (and yes, having Kade there put things in perspective). I'm sure when he starts pushing Will again in Red Dragon, I'll start hating him again, but it's not on Laurence, I love that Jack is a complicated and nuanced character and not just your typical "boss" character.
ReplyDeleteExactly! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha,Pate anyone!
ReplyDeleteYes! This good news for the show. Gillian Anderson is awesome. :)
